#Prince Severe Magnus

One thing that has me gnawing on the metaphorical drywall is that Abigail Pent apparently never learned just how awful Jod is.

There she is, in the River, murdered by one of god's fingers and gestures, having been invited to the First so that she could kill her husband and eat his soul and...she's triggering Harrow by exclaiming that "The King Over the River is good!" when she learns some people survived.

Having worked out that there is something fundamentally, practically, metaphysically wrong with the River she...just assumes poor old god doesn't know and could do with some Cliff Notes.

And then there's the battle with the Sleeper. She's hiding from a mad, gun-wielding ghost, her husband shot in the stomach on the other side of the room, and her carefully planned exorcism in pieces, and Ortus begins to recite the Noniad. And realising the impossible thing he wants her to do, Abigail - who pages earlier expressed her doubts about god's omnipotence, prays: “Oh, God... God, please help me” (which makes her the only character who isn't a literal priest or member of a religious order who we see praying).

When she describes her childhood bedroom to Harrow, everything she mentions sounds like something of significance to her: her grandfather's bones, her desk, the bed where her brother sometimes slept, and "a pretty chroma of the Prince Undying, but a little cockeyed." (think mass produced 1950s Sacred Heart picture and you're probably not far off...)

Despite having formative memories of having weird devotional art in her bedroom, Abigail is miles away from that other enjoyed of Jod pictures in their living space, Silas Octakiseron. She's open about her heterodox views, and clearly has the knowledge to back them up (including, it should be noted, at least one degree taken on the Eighth). And she clearly has form with going off on a heterodox tangent, as Magnus seems to have a well-rehearsed pattern for bringing her back to an acceptable line. And while she's happy to acknowledge that her views aren't orthodox, she's not being pointlessly controversial: she doesn't mind being a heretic, but she's rather upset by the idea that Marta might think her a mad one.

Marta, meanwhile, is one of several characters who show us that Abigail's intensity isn't just the result of living in a theocracy: “No. The Second House doesn’t overthink the River...If we did we’d just have to fill in forms.” Meanwhile, Ianthe is clearly thinking about dogma with an eye less to worship than replication.

And maybe it's because I know a lot of people who are devout but heterodox, and in relationships only tenuously accepted in their tradition (or only in their specific bit of the tradition)...but I just have a lot of feelings about Abigail here. Someone who's willing to be frank and informed about the complexities inherent in her belief system, but who seems to be committed to her faith. She seems so willing to think the best of Jod, to pray to him even when she's intellectually aware it may not be quite that straightforward and...he doesn't give a shit. He isn't god. He's a stupid little man who looks down on the humanities and I wish Abigail Pent got the chance to say something devastating to him.

GW2 Unused dialogue: Flirty lines?

So here's a fun one ;)

During my deep dive into the Living World S1 related dialogue lines in the game, I stumbled across a flirty line from Jory that I hadn't heard before. I didn't think much of it at the time, since several of her regular lines are rather flirty. But then I found one for Braham. And then Rox. And then I started to pay attention.

For most characters, there are blocks of what I like to call 'generic' lines. These blocks tend to be separate from the story-specific lines and ambient conversations, and include things like event-related chatter (let's go, follow me, go on ahead, etc), greetings, yes/no, calls for help, battle cries, etc. And I noticed some of the "thank you"/gratitude lines were almost always preceded by some kind of flirty line (and a few aren't, it's kinda messy haha). So I ran through all the other characters and pulled what I could find.

Not all named characters seem to have these though, and I might have missed one or two that weren't obviously flirty. There's also a chance that some of these are part of ambient conversations I'm not aware of, but most ambient conversations tend to be separate, so I dunno. Like I said; kinda messy.

I've separated them into two groups: Named NPCs and un-named NPCs

Marjory Delaqua: "Mmm, mm, mmm. You can walk into my bar any old time." Braham: "You'd look great in a bear skin." Rox: "I like you almost as much as meat!" Magnus the Bloody Handed: "You look like a kindred spirit. You like winter sports?" Evon Gnashblade: "You like gold? Jewels? I bet you do." Vorpp: "Hello beautiful. Are there anymore at home like you?" Scarlet Briar: "Hello, you're pretty cute. For a drone." Captain Mai Trin: "Do you have what it takes to be my First Mate?" Magister Tassi: "What do you say? You, me, a little romantic stroll through the library, hmm?" Mad King Thorn: "Heey! How would you like to be queen for a day?" Bloody Prince Thorn: "Mmm, you're as luscious as blood in the moonlight."

Lionguard 1: "Hey, good lookin'." Lionguard 2: "My shift's about to end, how about a drink?" Aetherblade 1: "Hey baby, wanna ride on an airship?" Aetherblade 2: "I'm all business. But I'm all pleasure too." Aetherblade 3: "Hey there, hot stuff." Zephyrite 1: "I feel a spark between us." Zephyrite 2: "You outshine the sun." Zephyrite 3: "Did I see a glint in your eye?" - The Corruption

- the bastard that made me start this whole thing (wanted to make The Stinky Trash Bastard Man, Stinky Trash Bastard Man Squared and it sorta just went from there)

- known as The Duke of The Crawling Rot

- raided the magnus institute with Jane Prentiss (where he meets Logan, they probably start dating sometime in the AU) (both Remus and Prentiss wore raggedy red dresses and Roman got pissy about Remus stealing his color)

- dating Janus and living with him + Annabelle Cane (more on her later)

Roman:

- The Desolation

- known as The Prince of Total Desolation/The Prince of Devastation

- was The Lightless Flame’s attempt to salvage the idea of having a Messiah and all the work that was put into that (a failed attempt at that)

- a lot of “he hurts everyone close to him because of the intensity of his love for them (“also he can’t touch anyone without burning them alive)” going on with him

- him and Jude Perry are lesbian/gay hostility (also Jude pretty much HATES Roman because he’s quite literally the “replacement” for the woman she loved) but sometimes have their moments of coexistence

- him and Virgil have something going on but it isn’t clear to anyone (including me) what exactly it is

speaking of…

Virgil:

- The Dark

- it was close between The Dark and The End but ultimately I went for The Dark

- ascended to Avatar-hood earliest out of everyone else (at like something between 14-17 idk)

- much more on the human-ish end of the spectrum (main thing is his eyes, i’ll drop the design soon i promise)

- Janus (who’ll i get to next) was like a mentor/older sibling figure for him, and tried to get him to become an avatar of The Web (is still trying to do so) which is why 1) Virgil is still closely tied to spiders, and 2) mostly why Virgil Does Not Like Janus

- Virgil still has a pet tarantula that Janus had given him, he’s tried to muster up the will to kill her or get rid of her more times than he can count now, to cut off his ties with The Web, but he just can’t bring himself to do it

- him and gerry (who i’ve decided doesn’t die in this au and instead becomes a fully realized Beholding Avatar) are close friends and most of their interactions go something like:

“You fell in love with the fucking personification of insanity and lies" "big talk for a guy with a crush on the biggest bitch of a fancy dumpster fire" "fuck you" "fuck you" "so you're trying to tell me you didn't name yourself after gerard way?" "i didnt" "bullshit, i bet you heard 'mama' and immediately took his name" (gerry’s trans in this, i make the rules)

- Virgil used to be friends with Julia Montauk before someone got jealous and tipped her off that Virgil’s an avatar (they get less toxic later i promise okay?)

- also he’s sorta friends with oliver banks, they have these “oh hey, it’s you” acquaintances and sometimes sit down to catch up like:

“how’s it going with your vast boyfriend? (mike crew)” “oh yeah a Hunter cop shot him he had to pretend to be dead while Buried for a bit but he’s doing better now, tea?” “how’s your bf in the red?” “my what.” “y’know the Lightless Flame’s Messiah 2.0?” “MOTHERFUCKING ROMAN??”

Janus:

- The Web

- okay yes The Spiral is literally the fear of deception, and yes Janus is literally called “Deceit” but this fits him better imo

- he/she Janus because fuck it

- as i said, tried to get Virgil to become a Web Avatar, still trying, how well this is working out for her is up for debate

- he is pulling all the strings possible to keep Virgil far away from The People’s Church of The Divine Host as possible (whether this is out of genuine care and fear for how being in a literal cult would affect Virgil’s wellbeing or a want to keep Virgil’s connection to The Dark as possible… that’s also up for debate)

- has severe scarring on the entire right side of her face, how did that happen? basically, Mary Keay wanted to test to make sure the Leitner skin book was real, so she hired janus (who also brought Virgil, and that’s how gerry and Virgil met) to help with that, long story short, she then backstabbed him and tried to skin him alive. janus got away but let’s just say she’s pretty damn lucky Virgil was there to get him to a hospital

- dating Remus (and eventually Logan) and lives with Remus + Annabelle Cane

- Speaking of Annabelle Cane, one day while Remus and Janus were just cuddling on the couch, Annabelle just walked in, said “We’re a colony now”, and set up in the spare bedroom s5 style and Janus + Remus were just like “oh-kay?” and went on with their day

- if you’ve ever seen that one “passive aggressive roommate” song on youtube, that’s Janus and Annabelle. both are the passive aggressive roommate.

- spider limbs from his back as well as the several hands thing because why the hell not, it works

Patton:

- The Eye

- mainly the being judged/having your secrets exposed aspects (because in sander sides he is literally the judge over thomas’ morality, his job is to watch over thomas’ actions and tell him whether or not he’s a good person)

- certain people make eye contact with with him and Know that he Knows all the bad things they’ve done, and feel the compulsion to spill their guts, once they start, they cannot stop no matter how hard they try

- after the fact, his victims find a teddy bear sitting on their bed that always seems to be Watching them no matter where they go

- works at The Magnus Institute, where he meets Logan, who, during his transition to becoming an avatar, was one of his biggest supports, since he was going through the same thing, they start dating after a while, and by the time of the Prentiss + Remus attack, they’re engaged (they both fully ascend only a few months after their wedding)

- [insert patton having a moral crisis because he doesn’t want to be a monster that feeds off of people’s fear but he has to and part of him likes it wow this is reminding me of a certain other Beholding Avatar]

- idk how it happens but he still becomes a father figure for Virgil somehow, i’ll figure out specifics eventually

Logan:

- The Vast

- while i absolutely love Beholding!Logan hear me out. the fear of insignificance works so well here.

- he started working at The Magnus Institute a year or two before Patton (and five or six years before the Prentiss + Remus attack)

- i cannot overstate how everyone in the au thinks he’s Beholding: Jon thinks he’s Beholding, Gertrude thought he was Beholding, Gerry, who canonically has an ability to tell if people are marked by an avatar and who, for the purposes of this au is an avatar of The Eye, thinks he’s Beholding, motherfucking Elias/Jonah thinks he’s Beholding, Virgil, Janus, Annabelle, everyone thinks he’s Beholding EXCEPT Remus, who just knows for some reason (at one point when Patton and Logan got engaged Remus was like “damn patton you’re so committed to the eye, wouldn’t have figured you’d marry a vast avatar.” “a what”)

- to be fair, he was like 0.5 seconds away from becoming an Eye Avatar then BOOM BITCH VAST JUMPSCARE (The Eye is immensely bitter) and is partially Eye-aligned

- when Patton and Logan started dating, Logan just kinda assumed that Patton knew he was a Vast avatar

- after Patton learns, the convo goes something like “but- you work with the institute? how are you an avatar of the vast?” “i still need to eat, patton, and rent in central london is not cheap.”“huh.”

- Logan has a tie that Patton got him after learning he was a Vast avatar, the tie has a blue sky that fades into a deeper blue at the top, has some clouds and birds scattered around, and has a colorful sunset at the bottom, he wore that to their wedding and every day after

- there is healthy communication between all parties when Logan starts dating Remus and Janus as well

- probably levitates elias/jonah over the edge of a building for threatening/traumatizing Patton at some point, Elias had no clue that Logan was a Vast avatar until that moment (self-made blind spot, like the one he had around Martin being a threat)

- Jon and Logan would be friends. they just would.

- Logan’s probably the one who convinces Virgil to go to therapy

God, I really haven't written much in the last few years. The oldest of these was posted four years ago! (The counterpoint is that I have several long-running longfics right now, which means a smaller number of stories.)

I think these show I tend to start in medias res, or else with a distinct image or line—the hook, as it were. I am also amused that two of these have Alec waking up, and a whopping four start with Magnus and some kind of movement. The two fantasy/fairytale stories pull back a bit to establish worldbuilding and backstory first.

Overall, this is a reminder to finally rewatch Shadowhunters and get serious about finishing at least some of my WIPs in that fandom. Had I but world enough and time.

Hey ! @annymation wrote Magnus and Amaya's backstory and I wondered what they looked like while they were younger.

Also, a Florian design would be neat ! Anny already sent some concept art for Prince Eric for comparison's sake, but yeah, it'd be really sweet to see what he really looks like.

I WAS WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO ASK ME FOR THIS LMAO

this is what I imagined for each one:

-Amaya: In her first design she has a typical garment from Greece (called Ionian) with a cream color, what really stands out are the flowers, you see, the flowers that Amaya has on her head are Peonies, a flower that symbolizes the truth, I also like to think that Amaya has several backpacks to store her potion ingredients.

For her second design (when she is already the alchemist of the kingdom) she would wear a hood almost all the time to go unnoticed with a simple white dress with all the blue details, and another detail is the flowers in her luggage, since they are Marigolds, a flower that symbolizes pain.

-Magnifico and Florian: For the brothers I don't have many symbols, the truth is I let myself be carried away by my imagination. Their color palette will be mainly cream with other red, orange and gold tones, what would differentiate the brothers would be the clothes. For Florian I imagine that the color orange is mostly abundant in his clothes, while for Magnus it would be reddish colors. One day I will do the designs with color, but it will be later, in the meantime I hope you like these sketches :D

Summary:

Once an artist and now married into the Trueblood family, Simon is Clary’s best friend and closest confidante. Though a noble by marriage, Simon is looked down upon by several nobles, including his eldest brother-in-law. Simon still pursues his art, this time backed by wealth and the support of his wife.

The only daughter of the Truebloods, Isabelle grows close to Clary after her debut and helps her out, especially with her courtship with Jace Herondale, who Isabelle considers a brother. Isabelle is also married to Simon Lewis, due to which she had a falling out with her older brother, whom she once had a strong bond with.

The Crown Prince of Alicante, Magnus is an enigmatic, often mysterious figure. However, having grown up alongside Clary, he considers her a little sister and helps her when needed, providing little tidbits of insider information, stepping in to rescue her when needed, and punishing anyone who steps too far - including ordering the execution of someone who hurts her direly.

The eldest son and heir to the Trueblood estate, Alexander is in love with the Trueblood family’s ward, Jace Herondale. As such, he will stop at nothing to gain Jace’s affections, thus going head to head with Clary Fairchild multiple times. Eventually, after pushing Clary Fairchild down a flight of stairs and putting her into a coma for two weeks, he is executed.

He’s not supposed to be here, but he is. Having been reincarnated into this novel in Alexander Trueblood’s body, Alec only has one mission: escape the fate that awaits him.

Magnus sighs and stares at a sleeping, exhausted Alexander and then turns to the mirror, admiring the bruises and bite marks and scratches on his skin. It takes a lot to bring Alexander out of an unseelie-dosed haze and Magnus is aware that Arawn’s court has been experimenting. They’re conducting ways to make the drugs they all indulge in more resistant to magic, hoping that Magnus will eventually be thwarted by their efforts.

It would be amusing if it weren’t so very irritating.

Magnus slides on a thin robe, barely tying it and letting the marks on his chest peek through as he unlocks the stasis magic on his fire messages.

The ones from the Institute he scowls at, including the fact that his magic had caught several attempts at tracking magic, focused on Magnus and one…

Magnus hisses out a breathe and crumples the magic he’s analyzing in his fist.

How dare they.

Magnus rarely agrees with Arawn but there is one thing he will never argue with, and that is keeping Alexander out of shadowworld politics and more importantly, away from shadowhunters.

There is too much leverage in an unseelie prince who is bonded and vowed to a king who is also an Elder. Alexander has only recently begun to involve himself out of a desire to protect Magnus, but it feels like too great a risk to continue to allow. Which means that Magnus will be demanding all those under his protection surrender themselves to his wards and safehouses or he will remove them from his people. He will not put Alexander in harm’s way for those who won’t listen. Not ever and especially not when it would risk a reason for Arawn to have a reason to counter Magnus’ claim on his son.

“Magn’s.” Alexander groans from the bed and there’s a muffled whine and Magnus turns with a smirk that blooms into a chuckle as he sees Alexander reaching out for him, eyes still closed.

“Yes, darling?” Magnus asks, striding closer and sitting close, hand running through soft tresses.

There’s no answer, just a pleased sound as Alexander rolls against him, nuzzling into his thigh with a sigh of contentment.

“Are you just going to sleep away the day?”

“Doesn’t matter—” he’s told with a tired yawn, “you’ll have business anyways.”

Magnus freezes, because that is true but as of late, Alexander has been demanding to join him and it sounds like he’s suddenly decided to not.

“Are you not coming with me, beloved?” Magnus asks soothingly, rubbing his fingers into the sore and tight muscles of Alexander’s neck.

“No.” Alexander scoffs and he shakes his head against Magnus’ thigh. “Not unless you want the next assumptive and rude client to dirty your floor.” It’s said with a dark glower and Magnus knows that the nephilim who came to him will forever find themselves an enemy of Magnus’ boy. Arawn does not take kindly to slights - intentional or not - his children follow his lead.

It's a part of why Magnus is so hated. He intentionally slighted every member of the unseelie royal family and Magnus would have done it a thousand times more if it had meant keeping Alexander.

“I would never think of objecting to you defending yourself, in any way.” Magnus reminds him — offended at the very thought — and Alexander lays back, smiling up at him with a softness that Magnus can hardly believe still exists in someone raised by the unseelie king.

“No, but it would bring attention to me.” Alexander reminds him and Magnus relaxes, running his fingers over Alexander’s jaw and chin and feeling the rough tickle of stubble there.

“Well, regardless. It doesn’t matter. All of those under my authority will be going into seclusion. I will not bring the problems of nephilim to my people or to my lair.” Magnus takes a moment to marvel at the treasure he holds and the vicious adoration that he’s loved with. “And never to you, more loved to me than my own heart and magic.”

Alexander rolls them over, somehow managing to get on top and pin Magnus now and there is a fierce light in his eyes as he looks down at Magnus. He bends to press his lips to each of Magnus’ cheeks, then his brow and each of his eyes with a barely contained devotion that has his kisses as light as a dragonflies wing.

There is an unspoken wealth of in each touch, for never can similar words leave his lover’s lips or Magnus knows the fate he will suffer will not be kind. Yet, what does it matter when Magnus is exalted beyond all else, by his Alexander.

On 10th of February 1567 Henry Stewart, Lord Darnley, estranged husband of Mary, Queen of Scots, was murdered in Kirk O'Field.

The murder of Mary Stuart's second husband has fascinated historians for centuries, he was amn with no shorage of enemies, and was disliked by many, Mary was deeply unhappy with her husband, and is often cited as the one with most to gain, I personally do not think she was involved, but hey, I might be worng, here's more about the case.

On a Sunday morning in February 1567, Darnley lay sleeping on the upper floor of an Edinburgh house known as Kirk o' Field. For weeks he had rested there, convalescing from either smallpox or syphilis. Across the city, Queen Mary and their baby Prince James were safely ensconced at Holyrood House. Unknown to Darnley and perhaps unknown to Mary, someone had for some time been packing the cellars of Kirk o' Field with enough gunpowder to blow the structure to smithereens. And at around 2 am the building exploded, a blast heard and felt throughout Edinburgh.

According to historian Magnus Magnusson, nothing was left of the building. But, in an adjoining garden beside a pear tree, townsmen found Darnley's nightgown-clad corpse. Curiously, he appeared not to have been killed by the explosion but by strangulation. Magnusson speculates that Darnley had tried to escape just before the blast but had been intercepted by his murderer before he could flee.

Complying with royal protocol, Queen Mary observed 40 days of official mourning for her husband. But rumours circulated that Mary's widow weeds were woven discordantly with threads of insincerity. With Darnley's death, she had, in fact, become a widow for the second time. If her two-year marriage to Darnley had been brief, so too was her earlier marriage to the Dauphin of France. That union had lasted only two and a half years before the Dauphin, who had become King Francis II upon his father's death in 1559, died at age 16 from complications of an ear infection.

To understand the lead up to Mary's unhappiness you have to take a look at the circummstances leading up to her marriage and another murder.

Against the advice of her nobles and in spite of Queen Elizabeth's expressed displeasure, Mary wed Darnley in July 1565. But as predicted, the bridegroom's dissolute lifestyle soon angered her, causing her, of course, to second guess her decision. Most nights he roamed the streets of Edinburgh with low-life companions in search of women. He failed to participate in the business of the royal court.

Less than a year after the wedding, Darnley, unhinged by immature jealousy, became involved in the murder of David Rizzio, his wife's private secretary. Rizzio had come to Scotland from Italy some years previously on a diplomatic mission but remained at the Scottish court as a lute player, singer, and subsequently, as Mary's assistant. The more outraged Mary became over her husband's stupidity and lewd behaviour, the more she looked to Rizzio for consolation. At the time she and Rizzio were close, many Scottish Protestant lords were discontent with Mary's rule. Some of the nobles claimed that Rizzio was a secret agent of the Pope and had usurped their proper places beside the Queen. They easily cajoled the gullible Darnley into believing that Mary and Rizzio were sexual partners, an accusation that historians have found implausible. (At the time, Mary was six months pregnant with Darnley's child.) They persuaded him to take part in a plot to murder the Italian.

On the night of Saturday, 9th March 1566, Rizzio was dragged screaming from Queen Mary's side at her supper table in Holyrood House and stabbed some 56 times before life drained from his struggling limbs. It is unclear whether Darnley himself did the dragging or the stabbing or whether one of his henchmen performed the actual slaughter.

Amazingly, Mary forgave - or at least pretended to forgive - Darnley and cleverly managed to sever him from the group of treasonous nobles who had masterminded the Rizzio assassination. With Rizzio still fresh in the minds of the court, another threat to Darnley's fragile self-esteem soon took centre stage. James Hepburn, fourth Earl of Bothwell (a committed Protestant himself), rushed to Mary's aid in putting down a rebellion of Protestant conspirators.

Bothwell was Lord Admiral of Scotland, and although he possessed a reputation for bravery, he was also known to be lecherous, brutal, and power-hungry. Mary regarded him as her saviour, and he quickly became her most trusted advisor.

By the time Mary gave birth to Lord Darnley's son in June 1566, her husband had backslid into a life of debauchery, neglecting his royal duties and displaying a sullen resentment towards Mary's relationship with Bothwell. His disappearance from court prompted talk of a possible annulment of the royal marriage. But when the Queen learned he was seriously ill in Glasgow, she traveled to his bedside and later arranged for a horse litter to carry him back to Edinburgh to convalesce at Kirk o' Field. For months Mary had spoken of her husband with nothing but contempt, and the gesture was out of character.

While there is no definite answer to the question of who murdered Lord Darnley, most historians agree that Bothwell - with or without Mary's complicity - concocted the plot. A house explosion, which gave the crime such flagrant overtones and which scandalized all of Europe, was significant; a disintegrated building would cover tracks, making it impossible to prove anything. To be sure there was no direct evidence establishing Bothwell as the murderer, but for those associated with the royal court, it was only too easy to guess. Bothwell was a ruthless opportunist aiming at nothing less than the kingship of Scotland.

Typical of the era, the events following Darnley's murder were dramatic, ruthless, and bloody. Bothwell kidnapped, raped (so Mary claimed), and married the Queen. Predictably, within days of the wedding Mary was reduced to suicidal despair by Bothwell's abuse. Yet her willingness to marry Bothwell was not as absurd as it might seem. In spite of all she had been through, Mary remained politically astute. In the political power game playing out around her, she needed a strong ally to protect her from rebellious noblemen. Indeed, Bothwell notwithstanding, less than a year after Darnley's death the Scottish lords forced Mary to abdicate and flee to England. For the next two decades, she was held prisoner by Queen Elizabeth I and finally executed in England at Fotheringhay Castle in 1587.

There is no hint of any culpability on Queen Mary's part in regard to the Darnley murder in Sir Walter Scott's romantic epitaph, albeit written centuries later....

Thus died Queen Mary, aged a little above 44 years. She was eminent for beauty, for talents, and accomplishments, nor is there reason to doubt her natural goodness of heart, and courageous manliness of disposition. Yet she was in every sense one of the most unhappy Princesses that ever lived, from the moment she came into the world, in an hour of defeat and danger, to that in which a bloody and violent death closed weary captivity of 18 years.

Reverse AU with Shadowhunter Magnus and Warlock Alec?

The first time High Warlock Alexander Lightwood meets the infamous shadowhunter Magnus Bane, is as he watches the man drag another shadowhunter right up next to where Alec is sitting at the bar of his sister's night club, to then turn to the other shadowhunter and loudly announce that:

"Since the Inquisitor has forbidden me to inform any of my 'downworlder dalliances' of the current situation, I can only tell you, my fellow shadowhunter and best friend, that there have been signs of renewed circle activity and it is no longer certain that their leader, my mother, really died over a decade ago. As I have been told in no uncertain terms that I am not to share this information with anyone carrying demonic blood, I sure as hell hope that no one has overheard us now." He turns around to look at Alec. "Oh, hello there, gorgeous man who I have no idea who he could possibly be and is surely not in a position to warn the members of the downworld to be on the look-out for my psychotic mother and her followers."

(Because why not have it be the mother who is the genocidial maniac. And this way, there are several ways for Asmodeus to still be a prince of hell *and* Magnus' father. For example, Asmodeus could have still been an angel when he fell in love wiht Magnus' mother and slept with her, which causes him to fall, because lust and sin and all that. Which could make Magnus have extra angel blood. Or if Asmodeus was already a demon, a deal with the mother, resulting in Magnus' birth, but his heritage kept secret from him, and Asmodeus keeping the demon blood concealed because he probably wants to have an easier time manipulating him later on when all is revealed. Or whatever. Anyway, evil mom.)

Princess Ingrid Alexandra's Inheritance

In anticipation of Trond Norén Isaksen's new book, Ingrid Alexandras Arv, I thought it would be fun to make a list of all of the Norwegian royal tiaras that will one day belong to Princess Ingrid Alexandra.

The number of working members of the Norwegian Royal Family is pretty small and is in the process of becoming even smaller. Princess Märtha Louise no longer carries out royal duties, Princess Astrid in 91 years old, and it’s unclear how much of an official role, if any, Prince Sverre Magnus will have. This means that most of the jewelry that is currently spread between several people will someday come to Princess Ingrid Alexandra.

The collection starts with Queen Maud, the first queen of a modern, independent Norway and also a British princess. She only had one child so all of her jewelry (after a little detour in the UK) went to her daughter-in-law, Crown Princess Märtha, who was a Swedish princess herself and brought a good amount of jewelry with her. Crown Princess Märtha passed away in 1954 and her three children decided to wait until the then Prince Harald was married in 1968 to divide it all up. When they split the jewelry up it was with the understanding that some of it would stay with Princess Ragnhild and Princess Astrid's descendants and some of it would go back to the mainline when they passed sort of like a lifetime loan.

I really hope that Princess Ingrid Alexandra decides to put the jewelry into a trust or foundation similar to the Swedish and Dutch royal families. Their system worked out well for the three siblings but you can't assume that it will always go this smoothly. Creating a foundation would not only keep the jewelry together for future generations but hopefully facilitate more jewelry sharing.

There are also some tiaras that will not be inherited by Princess Ingrid Alexandra. Three of Princess Astrid's tiaras will stay with her children and Princess Märtha Louise's tiara will stay with hers. I have long wondered if Queen Sonja will leave her Modern Gold Tiara to Princess Märtha Louise because the style suits her and I expect her to leave some jewelry to her daughter. Now I'm less sure because Princess Märtha Louise and her daughters will have little need for a second tiara.

There's also the possibility that one of these tiaras will be left to Prince Sverre Magnus but I think it's more likely that they will buy his future wife a tiara that is convertible to other jewelry so that it is more useful for someone who will rarely wear one. She could also borrow tiaras from her sister-in-law whenever needed.

All of this means that when she is queen, Princess Ingrid Alexandra will have thirteen tiaras to choose from. I didn't expect the number to be that high but the Norwegian royals don't do much jewelry sharing which always makes a collection appear smaller than it is. I hope that in the future they become more flexible about sharing jewels and I also want them to be more open to sharing them with the public. The Norwegian royal family does not generally participate in books, documentaries, or exhibitions about their jewelry but they did share a photo and information about Princess Ingeborg's Pearl Circle Tiara when it was given to Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Princess Astrid has spoken to Isaksen about her jewelry when he wrote her biography so I am hopeful that that is changing.

Rafael - Got married to Anjali. Consul of the Clave. Pissed off the Warlock Council after everything that happened with the Devlins. 

Selena - Moved out of the NY Institute. Traveling the world to find shadowhunters who were exiled to invite them back to the shadow world. Still dating Gabriel - who is a Centurion. 

Lexi - Moved to Idris with Liv (who is part of the Idris Guard now) and lives in Herondale Manor. Studies and protects the Veil of Idris (which keeps the shadow demons at bay)

Gigi - Currently lives in Idris (while Roman is in LA studying technology) and works closely with Camila Alvarez on using demon ichor to support mundanes. 

Max - Currently lives in New York Institute with David. Signed the walk-away clause and is no longer part of the Clave and therefore is not allowed in Idris. 

David - Currently lives at New York Institute and is the head of the institute. Rumored to be the prince of darkness and exiled from Idris after releasing shadow demons into Idris and causing the death of several shadowhunters including Kingsley Knightstorm. 

Alec and Magnus - Catching their breath after tackling all the Devlins and looking for a motherfucking break for once. They are both worried about the deteriorating relationships between warlocks and shadowhunters.

(Part 1) What do you think of the 'vampire bond' thing? At first I thought it was just a BS excuse Louis invented rather than admit he truly loved Lestat, but Sam & Jacob mentioned it in interviews like it's a legit thing - they may just be playing along but idk. Imo It's natural for ppl to bond through such life-altering experiences & Loustat were in love already, but IF there's a supernatural aspect to it, it's more complex than he claims. Maybe the bond magnifies whatever is already there?

First off, I do think it is an expression of them being connected by love. Lestat made Louis in love, that bonds them quite differently than Magnus and Lestat (as an extreme example.) (That is the romantic explanation^^)

And there is a blood connection. There is this musing in the books, where Lestat theorizes, that master and fledgling cannot hear each other directly because they're simply too close - the blood is too similar. They are running mental interference on each other. (That is the err.... "scientific" explanation^^)

Now, nonny, I don't know how much you know of the books. BUT - vampires are connected by a cord, the silver cord, as Louis (!) later calls it... this silver cord is the spirit that propels them and that is a wide net in a way. This spirit, Amel, has a bigger part in the last three books, and this silver cord is an important aspect (and Louis' part in the story a bit bigger again).

When Lestat says they're connected by a cord (for the vampire bond)... now believe me, but I squealed^^ (and his insistence on it, guhhh^^). That wording was no coincidence, imho. And we know that the Prince Lestat arc is part of the writer's awareness / consciousness at the very least (as the dance is very much proof of, and several interviews refer to Prince Lestat, too). (That is the later book canon explanation^^)

So where does that leave us?

I think it is a combination of all three factors, but the wording of it is no coincidence imho, not in a show like this.

I have theorized about that before, but Amel might even play into the events of episode 5 - we are working on a condensed timeline, and Amel's coming to consciousness was a violent and bloody one. He literally drove several vampires to extreme violence. (The "nature" comment is still a bit weird to me there, no matter how it happened.)

So... we'll see I guess.

The "silver cord" is too big an event in later books to skip (if we get there, fingers crossed) - this will show up again.

And as such the cord, no matter how the combination of all the factors works - but the cord, the bond... is real.
