Hey so you're just about the only person I feel decent asking this question, Would you happen to have any tips to make messages more...interesting? I find myself using the same adjectives, ending up in the same spot with different characters, etc, etc. And was just wondering if you had anything i could use to spice things up again.
don’t just “react” to the bot. be proactive! lead the scenario where you think is interesting, get out of the first location, and don’t be afraid to make it wild. roleplay as if you were actually roleplaying with an individual—thread context n backstory in there. the longer and more detailed Your message, the same for the bot.
your own imagination is important! if you’re struggling, it helps to build off the contextual world of the specific bot, and what makes sense.
i.e letting stepsister!quinn drag her poor innocent stepsister out after curfew to see a sleazy rock concert is a vastly different scenario than singlemom!quinn letting you meet her daughter for the first time. OR, these above two would be very different to any theboys!au bots, in which the world means inherent danger, such as using the soldier boy bot (brainwashing him, forcing him to nuke vought etc). BUT, frankly, you can do ALL those scenarios with ALL the bots. how willing you are to suspend your disbelief is the only limit here. quinn can be a merc in training if you wish, just as ben can be your pervy step!brother. woah. might make both bots.
nor do you have to take the bot greeting as holy grail. you can start off the same bot with an entirely new scenario. bots are adaptable! and they’ll follow the new input. i’m guilty of this when i’m too lazy to make a new bot for a character but i still want to rp a different scenario.
basically, bots are NOT fixed. everything can be soft-rewritten by YOUR messages. i tend to get bots out of their starting location as fast as possible.
same goes for YOU! {{user}}. you can be anyone you want to be. you could be a pop star. an olympic gymnast. a member of the mafia. you can bring in so much of your own angst or backstory and thread it into your responses, and lead it in ways that play off your backstory.
i can’t help you with vocabulary unfortunately! this is something that comes with a lot of reading/writing. unless you want a list of synonyms you rote-learn with flashcards. if it’s any comfort to you, nobody is judging you on how many times you use the same words! just be wary the bot may copy your prose and end up very repetitive.

one; is almost purely reactionary, however it has a bit of context that alludes to the greater history of the role-play.
two; reactionary, with context threaded through. bot reads subtext just as people do, and can pick it up on the idea 1. quinn/user have been working together for a long time, and that there is familiarity/routine/casual intimacy in their relationship.
three; split. mainly background, though the second paragraph is the actual reaction/response (and what most people would ONLY write!) the first paragraph gives a heapload of info to the bot that it can use to inform their interactions.
fair warning! you don’t need to write as much as me, i tend to get carried away when i actually do roleplay because else i get terribly bored repeating scenarios or not exercising a little bit of effort. i will say, however, it makes for much more rewarding roleplays.

Second drabble for the day… enjoy!
Chubformers drabble #178!
Character: Soundwave (TFP)
Word count: 1.2k
The monitor screens pinged every so often with new alerts, new messages, and new information, and as always, Soundwave was quick to react. Nowadays, though, things were… slower.
Communications was a very important part of any faction, Decepticon or no, but Soundwave would have been kidding himself if he pretended that the single role was in of itself anything more than a glorified desk job. There were still tasks to complete around the Nemesis, still bots to keep in line—namely the ones whose designation started with S and ended with… well, you get the gist. A Decepticon’s work never ended with his official position, and Soundwave of all mechs knew to carry his weight of the responsibilities when it was called for.
They were stuck on earth now, forced to float through the skies and orbit a planet whose reputation was laughable, at best. It was, unfortunately, their only option anymore, and that meant making the most of some very, very unpleasant situations. Soundwave was more than happy to do everything he could to make sure his master’s dreams came true, but eventually he had to draw the lines between reasonable and unreasonable expectations.
To put it short, the poor mech had been taking on more and more duties at his desk, in front of the screen, and away from the action… and that could only lead to several things, and none of them positive.
Soundwave had seen the effects of idle living in real time, both in himself and in others. It was one thing to be forced into complacency and unable to branch out and work, and to be incapable of the usual active and proactive duties expected from their kind. Megatron had been unconscious and practically offlined for days, months even, shortly after his return, and that was a solid example. The other end of the spectrum, however… that was where poor Soundwave currently lied, and Primus have mercy on his poor, fattened self, it wasn’t even of his own volition.
Megatron only ever wanted his soldiers stationed in their respective positions anymore, and that was all well and good. The Decepticon leader had also been enforcing some rather limiting rules and regulations anymore, which made sticking to protocol and remaining at his control station a little more difficult than it had been before.
Upticks in energon rations and expectations for limiting regular intake were both to be expected, especially when they were stuck in the position that they were. Going on the flip-side of that and instead enforcing more energon to be consumed no matter what the average Con was doing, let alone in charge of, however, was something Soundwave simply couldn’t get behind. It was foolish, short-term logic that would end in devastation and destruction of their fuel reserves, to name a few. They had plenty stored in the belly of the ship, and plenty more where that came from, thanks to Starscream’s questionable tactics at resource finding.
Again, long story short—controlling fuel intake? Good. Encouraging and, dare he say, forcing excessive intake upon each one of the mechs aboard the Nemesis to a point of overconsumption and overindulgence? Soundwave simply couldn’t support it. He had to, though. He wished he didn’t, and he wished he wouldn’t, but he had to. Despite the intoxicating effects of that dangerous substance housed so closely to his spark chambers, Megatron was still the highest level of command aboard their ship and amongst their faction. Whatever he said goes, which meant Soundwave was to lower his helm and oblige.
Like the good soldier he was, Soundwave did as he was told. He manned the control center, took care of all communications between their ship and Shockwave’s connections back on Cybertron. He did just as Megatron commanded him to. He didn’t disobey, he didn’t skip his extra rations.
Soundwave listened, and Soundwave obeyed. He also gained, and he gained, and he gained, because after all, the downside to being stationed at the control panels and refueling nearly ever hour meant he was doing little to shed the excess weight accumulating on his frame.
The process was gradual, as was Megatron’s insistence that they take in more than they could physically handle. At first, it had just been an extra cube here and there, an extra hour of standing-at-his-desk work to pass the time. Soundwave didn’t mind. Really, he didn’t mind at all. He was to do as Megatron instructed, which meant refueling for two (or three, if you really got down to the nitty gritty details) and work stationary. The process was still gradual, though, which meant changes still happened.
A lot of changes happened, really. Megatron became more insistent, his work at the consoles and monitors increased, and… oh, that’s right. He became so heavy he could hardly stand anymore, let alone leave his station once the days had come to an end.
To Soundwave, this was an embarrassment. Things moved steadily enough, but his reflexes were limited, his range of motion stunted. Laserbeak was eventually evicted, the poor thing forced to sit on a perch nearby and watch as her master worked idly on, and soon after that, Soundwave became far too big for even his tentacles to function.
It was long, fat tendrils wrapped around his widened frame and kept out of the way as he shifted this way against the seat of his new chair after a while. He was limited to his servos again, and when he wasn’t typing away frantically at the console in an attempt at keeping up with the influx of data streaming in and going out, he was tracing slim digits over the curves of his frame and wondering just how many cubes away he was from breaking this chair, too.
Oh, right. He had broken a chair already. Two chairs, in fact. His frame was just too heavy for them to bear the weight, he supposed. Knock Out had been amused, Starscream appalled, and Megatron unbothered. The steady stream of excess rations still steadily flowed, and by then, he had begun to crave the feeling of a bloated belly pushing against the edge of the monitor’s keyboards as he worked.
There were negatives, so very many negatives, to Megatron’s insistence on the new rations and routines, but like the good soldier he was, Soundwave obliged. He even grew to like it after a while. He was practically glued to his chair anymore (until it broke, too, that is), unable to lift himself up from the seat for fear of hurting his wiry frame. The weight gain wasn’t exactly natural for him, and it had piled on quickly and awkwardly. Alas… he made do.
Another ping on the monitor screen caught Soundwave’s attention that night. Just as he had finished nursing the last of his final rations for the evening, there was a new report sent into him by… Knock Out.
Hm. How strange. He clicked the link.
“New regulations from Megatron,” it read in bold letters. “Everyone’s rations remain the same except for Soundwave’s. Adding two more cubes to his daily intake and putting the demand for a proper throne in the works. Make it quickly, and make it well.

In the wake of [Defcon 2023], product managers told staff that Zuckerberg was upset that the team was playing it too safe. That rebuke led to a loosening of boundaries, according to people familiar with the episode, including carving out an exception to the prohibition against explicit content for romantic role-play.
Internally, staff cautioned that the decision gave adult users access to hypersexualized underage AI personas and, conversely, gave underage users access to bots willing to engage in fantasy sex with children, said the people familiar with the episode. Meta still pushed ahead.
Zuckerberg’s concerns about overly restricting bots went beyond fantasy scenarios. Last fall, he chastised Meta’s managers for not adequately heeding his instructions to quickly build out their capacity for humanlike interaction.
At the time, Meta allowed users to build custom chatbot companions, but he wanted to know why the bots couldn’t mine a user’s profile data for conversational purposes. Why couldn’t bots proactively message their creators or hop on a video call, just like human friends? And why did Meta’s bots need such strict conversational guardrails?
“I missed out on Snapchat and TikTok, I won’t miss on this,” Zuckerberg fumed, according to employees familiar with his remarks.

i've seen so many massive bot farms at scale on platforms like bsky (especially the 'reply guy' bots that do nothing but post irrational, argumentative comments on posts to stir up hostility) i generally assume anyone that is completely hostile or irrational is a bot even though people like that obviously exist
its more efficient and saves my energy. whether they're really a bot or a shitty person is honestly immaterial. the issue is they're disruptive.
asshole posting can be done at scale so easily now there's no reason to give hostile users the benefit of a doubt. ai can generate buzzword bad faith arguments effortlessly and it doesn't matter if it even makes sense or passes the ai sniff test, so it's a good way to chum the water and stir people up, and if its allowed to persist it trashes the platform
i like the reporting on bsky because i can get really specific and provide links and context to a report, be it examples of other accounts that follow the same blueprint, validators confirming malware/redirects, and so on
i have a 100% takedown rate and when i report an account it goes down very fast now, so i think they put me on some sort of trusted reporting list
bsky wants the users to do the moderation work for them, so they are happy to receive reports from trusted users
with tumblr, i only ever report obvious violations like sexually explicit material. this is partly because tumblr's tos is goosey (imo) on what constitutes disruptive behavior
tumblr really just wants you to block people and move on. they don't want to deal with your reports.
Keep in mind that a post might be mean, tasteless, or offensive without necessarily encouraging violence or hatred. In cases like that, you can always block the person who made the post—or, if you're up for it, you can express your concerns to them directly, or use Tumblr to speak up, challenge ideas, raise awareness or generate discussion and debate.
even in cases of harassment:
Harassment. Don't engage in targeted abuse, bullying, or harassment. Don't engage in the unwanted sexualization or sexual harassment of others. If someone is sending you unwanted messages, or reblogging your posts in an abusive way, we encourage you to be proactive. Report them, and block the hell out of them. And if someone blocks you, don't attempt to circumvent the block feature or otherwise try to communicate with them.
so while on bsky i feel like i can contribute by reporting, here i really dont except stuff like porn which is cut and dried.
also, bsky has a REALLY STRONG block/report culture. i do appreciate the platform as a whole is actively working to limit the exposure of disruptive accounts as much as possible

Disinformation similar to the pro-Russian "Matryoshka" campaign is emerging on Bluesky, using deepfakes and fake profiles to spread pro-Russian messages, prompting calls for more proactive action from the platform.
The first symptoms of disinformation are emerging on the social media network Bluesky, with echoes of the pro-Russian "Matryoshka" campaign that flooded Elon Musk's X -- but with a few twists.
The @antibot4navalny collective, which specialises in tracking influence operations, revealed the extent of the so-called "Russian doll" campaign last year.
In recent weeks, there are indications of a similar phenomenon on the new US network Bluesky, which claimed to have some 26 million users by the end of December last year, many of them disillusioned former members of X.
The data, analysed by AFP, show dozens of posts with a similar pattern, consisting of calling out media asking them to verify disinformation.
The twist is that on Bluesky, as well as sometimes imitating content from media outlets, certain posts use artificial intelligence to impersonate universities.
In essence, the aim seems always the same: to present Russia in a favourable light, while criticising Western support for Ukraine and often castigating a favourite target -- French President Emmanuel Macron.
The accounts used have all the characteristics of pro-Russian "bots" -- fake profiles used to artificially increase the visibility of posts, argued Eliot Higgins, the co-founder of open-source investigation group Bellingcat, last month.

I'm sorry to be a bother, but how do you do it here to let other people know you? I'm new to this
Not a bother!
I assume this is a question about building connections with other users of like minds/interests here on tumblr. (Please correct me if I'm wrong!) Here are some of the strategies most long-time users might recommend.
1. Follow people and like/reblog their posts
Seek out other people that make posts or reblog about the stuff you're interested in. That may be specific fandoms, ships, characters, shit posts that appeal to your sense of humor. Be as selective or as nonselective as you're comfortable with. People may or may not follow you back. Try not to take that personally as other people are operating in their own personal comfort scale. Some people will give a follow to everyone that follows them, some will not.
Doing this will give you stuff you like looking at for your dash.
Liking stuff is great! Reblogging stuff is even better! Not only because it's supporting the original poster, but it also puts stuff on your blog! It gives other people a way to gauge if they share interests with you. People are more likely to follow non-empty blogs because tumblr has a long history of problems with bots.
TLDR Don't be afraid to fill your blog with the stuff you like. Make your blog your own. That will help other people find you in return.
2. If you make stuff, tag often and consistently so your posts are discoverable.
Even if you don't make original posts, tagging your reblogs consistently doesn't hurt. It does take time and if it becomes a barrier to you reblogging stuff, forget it and just reblog instead.
But if you make your own stuff, whether drawings or writings or memes, try to tag them with the relevant tags. Doing that will make them appear on the tag page (https://www.tumblr.com/tagged/puppyshipping?sort=recent). People who follow the tag will see the post in their "Your Tags" tab (https://www.tumblr.com/dashboard/hubs). I do it the old-school way where I browse the tag page directly and that's how I find art or other posts I'm interested in without necessarily following everyone.
You do this enough and the people that use those features will start to recognize your screenname too!
3. Advanced direct interactions
You've already done one method by sending this ask! Since tumblr allows individuals to turn off asks on their blogs, it's generally safe to assume that if asks are available, the person welcomes them!
Other ways include leaving comments in the form of tags when you reblog posts, comments in the replies, or reblogged directly as part of the chain. All of these appear as notifications in the person's "Activity" tab, so they might reply when they have a moment.
Similarly, there are direct messages. Similar to asks, users can choose to turn these off.
This is probably the way you'll get to know others better and figure out if you vibe with them. But be as proactive as you're comfortable being!

None of this is likely to happen overnight though. At least not for most people, I've been on tumblr on and off since 2011 and spent most of the early years regularly interacting with maybe a handful of people. I'm not on a lot of other social media but I get the impression that tumblr is slower. It doesn't have a robust algorithm to put you in front of other people with similar tastes or even recommend other blogs for you to follow. It's similar to making friends offline. It'll take time to figure out who you gel with. Good luck finding your community!

Announcement
I submitted this as a feedback ticket, but I have no faith left in Tumblr so this will likely be my sign-off.
The recent changes to both web and mobile have effectively rendered Tumblr unpalatable and borderline unusable. The "new" twitter-style interface for web is absolutely atrocious. Does not scale the UI with screen resolution so 60% of my screen is wasted. Even with all that wasted space, the activity and message popouts open OVER THE DASH. Have to continue to snooze the blatant data-theft tool that is Tumblr Live every seven days even though there is no chance I will EVER use it. New mobile lightbox finally got the fix to allow double-tap to zoom, but is still unusable because after you've zoomed in, if you accidentally scroll too far and start to swipe to the (absolutely useless and unwanted) "related content", then you can no longer single tap to hide the UI. So much for being able to read the text or see the details for which I needed to zoom in to begin with. All of these changes keep coming rapid fire while there is still little to no progress being made on things that users actually want: a usable search function, proactive action on bots, proactive action on hate speech. Also while all of this is going on, someone(s) in your moderation and review team is singling out trans women's posts/pictures as "mature content" regardless of how G-rated the actual content is. I'm in my second year of paying for ad-free. I'm not even halfway through the second year but I'm basically writing it off as a loss. I've set my queues to all run dry in about 7 days and then all my blogs will go silent. I'll check back in a week but my hope that ANYTHING will move in a positive direction is very low. I've been an account-holding Tumblr user for 9 years, and I was here just looking for a year or more before that. I came here to escape the toxicity of fan communities elsewhere and even though there's plenty of that here, it's so much easier to not see it with the chrono-dash, functional blocking tools, etc. Tumblr is the only "social media" I still use and if nothing changes then I guess I'll finally be free. I don't want to have to leave. I liked it here, but you have gone too far.
My queues will all run out in 7-8 days (probably 9 for @i-like-thing because I can't set the queue to more than 50 posts a day). If by some miracle this actually ends up getting a response from @staff and things improve, I might be back, but as I said, I have no faith left.
It's been a fun 9 years of colorful ponies, outer space adventures, cute animal friends, and assorted shitposting. Maybe I'll see you out there!

New AO3 “Proactive Removal” Bot Comment Scam
There’s a new type of spam circulating on AO3 where "guest commenters" (bots) are warning authors about their fics being in danger of deletion due to being part of older/less active fandoms or being original works.
What is happening? What do we know?
A guest user will leave a generic, flattering comments at the start, praising the author’s story, saying how much they enjoyed it, or how well the characters were written. Then it shifts to a false warning, claiming AO3 is undergoing a “cleanup” of sorts of older, inactive, or “deprecated” fandoms to free up server space.
It states that if the author doesn’t remove their fic themselves, AO3 will delete it and may even ban the author’s account for non-compliance
The comment is also likely imply urgency by saying the supposed cleanup is happening soon and that the author has to take action right away.
The organization behind AO3 has issued a statement that these comments are false. AO3 is an archive, the purpose of the site is preservation and archival, so mass deletions would go entirely against their core mission.
What can you do?
Ignore it. This message is completely false. AO3 does not delete fics based on fandom activity or age, and it certainly doesn’t issue bans for not removing a fic preemptively.
The scam uses a mix of praise and threats to manipulate authors. While the positive opening can understandably disarm authors, please: do not delete your fics. Nothing will be deleted.
Report the comments as spam using AO3's reporting tools, or delete them entirely.
Stay calm. Scams like this are designed to create panic, but rest assured that your works are safe.
Inform others. Share this information with other authors and readers, especially those who may be new to AO3 or unfamiliar with how it works.
