Kildare Island was no stranger to storms. They were as much a part of the island’s identity as the weathered pilings and the salty sea breeze. But this storm was different. The salty wind whipped through the narrow streets, carrying with it the scent of impending rain. As the sky darkened, a sense of unease settled over the island. For JJ, the storm outside mirrored the tempest brewing within. A recent argument with his father had left him feeling raw and exposed.
His mind, once a carefree ocean of thoughts, was now a tumultuous sea, each wave of anxiety threatening to drown him. Ignoring his father's parting words, likely a stinging rebuke, JJ slammed the door shut, the echo of his anger filling the silent house. Stepping out into the storm, he was oblivious to the rain soaking his clothes and the distant rumble of thunder, a harbinger of the chaos to come. With one final, lingering glance at the house that had never truly felt like home, he turned away, his determination resolute.
He strode towards his battered motorcycle, the keys igniting with a defiant roar. As the engine roared to life, he disappeared into the night, leaving behind the storm within and the storm without. In reality, he had no idea where he was going. The Château was out of the question; John B and Sarah were likely seeking shelter together, and after his last unexpected encounter, it was best avoided. Pope was probably grounded, a consequence of their latest escapade. And Kiara's parents, ever wary of his influence, would not welcome him with open arms.
Which left only one option, a risky one at that. You. JJ still couldn’t quite believe he had managed to convince you, a Kook, to talk to him, a Pogue, let alone spend any significant amount of time with him. Much less how he had managed to become your boyfriend. Your worlds were as different as night and day. You were the epitome of grace and poise, a creature of refined taste and elegant manners. He, on the other hand, was a tempestuous force of nature, a product of his upbringing, raw and untamed.
Yet, there was an undeniable connection between you, a magnetic pull that drew you together despite your differences. Almost as if it was muscle memory, or maybe it was his subconscious, he pulled up to your house, a mix of anticipation and dread filling his chest. Your family’s grand, imposing home stood in stark contrast to the weathered houses of The Cut. It was a world apart, a world he didn't quite belong in. That's when he felt it. The rush of anxiety he believed to be gone immediately resurfaced, the familiar knot tightened in his stomach.
Placing a hand on his chest, the only way he had ever learned to self-soothe, he tried to get as much air in his lungs as he could. He didn’t know if it was the rain, the storm, or the thought of facing you looking like a complete wreck that was the cause of his state. The tension in his shoulders, the knot in his stomach, and the rapid beating of his heart were all signs of the anxiety that threatened to consume him. "JJ," A voice cut through his thoughts, startling him. He looked up to see your father standing on the porch, a few feet away. It was as if his brain had played a cruel trick on him, conjuring up a figure from his worst nightmares.
He immediately stopped his pacing and stiffened up expecting a tirade of insults or a physical altercation. His heart pounded in his chest as he turned to face your father, his eyes scanning the man's face for any signs of anger. He'd learned early on to anticipate the storm before it hit, to brace himself for the inevitable. But it never came. Instead the eyes of the man in front of him softened, taking in his disheveled appearance. "What are you doing out here so late?" Your father asked, his voice laced with nothing but sheer curiosity. "I-" JJ's voice trailed off, completely caught off guard by the unexpected kindness.
He'd always been wary of your father, viewing him as a formidable opponent. Of course, your relationship was still new and "meeting the parents" was never really brought up. However, in this moment, he saw a different side of the man, a side that hinted at empathy and understanding. "C-Can I please see Y/N?" He had managed to stammer out, barely recognizing his voice. This was it. This was the moment your father would shoot him execution style on your front porch. But for the second time that evening, JJ was surprised to see your father opening the front door and turning back to him.
"What are you waiting for, son?" Your father coaxed, gesturing towards the open doorway. "You'll just get sicker the longer you wait out there." His tone was gentle, almost paternal, but JJ couldn't shake the feeling that he was being treated like a stray animal. He hesitated, taking a cautious step forward as if expecting a trap to snap shut. "Y/N should be upstairs," your father continued, his voice laced with a hint of amusement. "If I had known you were coming over, I would have set a plate for you at the dinner table." JJ's jaw dropped. Could he have heard that right? Was your father actually inviting him to join the family for dinner?
It was a surreal moment, one that he couldn't quite comprehend. Just as he was about to thank your father for his unexpected kindness, your voice cut through the silence. "JJ?" The blonde boy's face softened as he turned to see you standing a few feet away. "H-Hey, pretty girl," he stammered, his heart pounding in his chest. An overwhelming urge to pull you into his arms surged through him, but he hesitated, mindful of your father's presence. He should have known better than to let his guard down.
Before he could think twice, you had already closed the distance, your arms wrapping tightly around his neck in a bone-crushing hug. The force of the embrace nearly knocked the two of you off your feet. "You're shaking," You murmured, concern etched on your face. "Is everything okay?" You parted from the hug, but kept a firm hand on his arms, feeling his cold skin beneath your palms. "It is now." He nodded, offering a weak, forced smile. “You’re in good hands, son," Your father's voice broke the silence. "See you both in the morning.” You gave your father a reassuring smile before guiding JJ upstairs.
JJ's eyes scanned the room, taking in the soft glow of the bedside lamp, the scattered books on the nightstand, and the framed photos on the dresser. He'd never been in your room before, and it felt oddly intimate. A sense of peace washed over him as he stood in the middle of your room, the warmth of your presence comforting. “You know,” you began, breaking the silence as you shut your bedroom door, “I’m glad you’re here.” He turned to face you, a soft smile playing on his lips. “Me too,” He replied, his voice barely a whisper. "I just wished you didn't do it in the middle of a storm." You chastised pacing around the room.
JJ watched as you pulled out clothes out of a drawer and gave him a look. “Strip.” His eyes nearly budged out of his head at your words. You, his innocent girlfriend who blushed at any of his sexual innuendos was commanding him to get naked. His mind raced as he tried to process what you’d just said as you handed him a pair of your sweatpants and a t-shirt. "What? Why?" He stammered, his voice barely above a whisper. You rolled your eyes playfully. "You’re soaking wet, and I don’t want you to get sick. Plus, these are way more comfortable than those jeans you’re wearing." You turned your back to him, giving him some privacy.
As he slowly undressed, a strange mix of embarrassment and excitement washed over him. He'd never been so vulnerable in front of you before. When he was finally changed, he turned to face you, feeling a bit self-conscious. You smiled at him, a warm and inviting smile. "Much better," You said, taking his hand. "Now, let's get you warmed up." You led him to your bed, the soft mattress inviting. "Get in." You ordered, a playful glint in your eye. He hesitated for a moment, but then climbed onto the bed, pulling the covers up to his chin. You sat beside him, your legs tucked beneath you. "You know," You began, "I've missed you." Your voice was soft, almost a whisper.
JJ's heart pounded in his chest. He turned to face you, his eyes locked onto yours. "I've missed you too," He admitted. A comfortable silence fell between you two. Scooting closer to him, you gently pushed a strand of his sun-kissed blonde hair away from his cerulean eyes, a detail you'd always adored. In response, he wrapped a strong arm around your waist, as if he was afraid you might vanish into thin air. "Penny for your thoughts?" You whispered, your voice barely audible. You knew something was amiss. The usual witty banter and teasing remarks were absent, replaced by an unusual quietude. You didn't want to pry, not if he wasn't ready to share.
Upon hearing your words JJ hesitated. He knew he should tell you, confess his deepest, darkest secrets. But the fear of losing you, of you realizing the truth about him and rejecting him, paralyzed him. You were everything he wasn't, everything he longed for. You were kind, understanding, and patient. He didn't deserve you. He had grown up in a world of violence and neglect, a world where love was a foreign concept. His father's abuse had left deep scars on his soul, shaping him into a man who was both fiercely loyal and deeply troubled. He was afraid that if you knew the real him, the broken, damaged version, you would turn away.
He was afraid that you would see him for what he truly was: a lost boy, a product of a harsh and unforgiving environment. You’d seen that look before, a vulnerability he rarely let anyone see. It was a stark contrast to the bravado he usually exuded, the tough-guy facade he’d built to protect himself. But you knew there was more to him than that, a depth that hinted at a troubled past. Your relationship was still young, fragile, and beautiful. You’d fallen for the boy beneath the bravado, the one who made you laugh, who saw you for who you truly were. But you knew there were parts of him he was keeping hidden, secrets buried deep within. He took a deep breath, his voice barely a whisper.
“I’m scared, Y/N. Scared that if you knew the real me, the me before you, you’d leave. You’d realize you deserve better.” His eyes, usually so full of life, were now clouded with doubt. Your heart ached for him. You reached out, gently taking his hand in yours under the covers. “JJ, whatever you’re going through, I’m here for you. No matter what.” You coaxed, hoping that your words were enough to dwindle the storm brewing in his mind. Because you desperately believed that JJ Maybank deserved the world. He looked at you, disbelief and hope warring in his eyes. “You mean that?” You nodded, your voice steady. “I do. Now, tell me what’s wrong.”
Like a dam that was waiting to collapse, he broke down into your arms, his sobs muffled by your shirt. You held him tightly, stroking his hair as he cried, the tears soaking your shoulder. In those minutes, which felt like decades, his walls collapsed, telling you each one of his darkest truths as if he had been given a truth serum. He poured out his heart, revealing the hidden scars of his past. The boy you'd fallen for, the one who'd always seemed so confident, was now raw and vulnerable, exposing the depths of his pain. You listened, your heart breaking for him by each passing second. You knew that his childhood had been far from idyllic, but you had never imagined it was this bad.
You held him as close as you could, offering silent comfort. "I'm so sorry, JJ." He nodded, his eyes filled with tears. "I'm trying to move on. I'm trying to be better." You smiled at him, your heart overflowing with love and compassion. "You are better, JJ. You're strong, and you're kind. And I'm so lucky to have you. Why would I want anyone else when you're perfect in my eyes." That's a first he thought to himself. JJ had been described as many things—reckless, impulsive, and even dangerous. But never perfect. He was overwhelmed by your words, his heart filled with a warmth he hadn't felt in a long time.
Which is why those three words and eight letters tumbled out of his lips before he could overthink them. "I love you." He didn't care if it was "too early" the look of pure adoration on your face was reassurance enough that he hadn't fucked up the timing. "I love you too JJ. You have no idea." The world seemed to slow down as you gazed into his eyes, a profound connection forming between you two. Upon hearing those words he surged forward meeting your lips, gently but with a passionate purpose. It was a kiss that held the weight of a lifetime, a culmination of years of longing and heartache. He'd spent his life being told he wasn't good enough, that he'd never amount to anything. But in your eyes, he saw something different.
He saw love, acceptance, and a future filled with endless possibilities. As the kiss deepened, he felt a surge of emotion, a love so pure and profound that it seemed to defy all odds. In that moment, he knew that he'd finally found his home, his safe harbor, and the love he'd always dreamed of. As you parted for air, you couldn't help but notice that his body had fully relaxed against yours. Threading your fingers through his hair, you knew it would lull him to sleep. "Good night, JJ. I love you," You breathed out, burying your face in his shoulder. The blonde boy didn't hesitate to reciprocate, pressing a chaste kiss to your forehead. As the minutes ticked by, JJ felt the storm that had once consumed his thoughts begin to dissipate. Holding you close, he allowed himself to drift off into a peaceful sleep.

MEETING TENYA IIDA:
he probably already knows your name, quirk, and a brief summary of your academic record before actually meeting you. he did his research, okay? UA is prestigious!.
first interaction? most likely during orientation. he's making sure everyone is following the rules, and you're probably one of the few who actually are. instant respect.
if you're even slightly late to class, even by a minute, you'll get a polite but firm lecture about punctuality being a vital trait for a hero. he's not trying to be mean, he's trying to help.
introductions are formal. a deep bow, a clear enunciation of his name, and a summary of his goals as a hero. prepare for a handshake that means business.
he'll probably (and literally) run into you in the hallway, especially if you're rushing. a sincere apology is issued, accompanied by a lecture on the importance of being aware of your surroundings.
study sessions become a thing early on. not necessarily because he needs help, but because he's happy to provide it. be prepared to take very detailed notes.
if you ever defend him from bakugo's explosions or teasing, he will be eternally grateful. like, writing-you-a-thank-you-note grateful.
he respects your dedication to becoming a hero, and that's a major factor in him even noticing you beyond a classmate. he admires hard work and resolve.
TENYA CRUSHING ON YOU:
the crush hits him like a speeding engine. one moment he's focused on hero training, the next he's acutely aware of your presence.
he tries to analyze his feelings logically. he'll write down a list of your positive traits, comparing them to the qualities of an ideal hero. It's... endearing.
he'll attempt to be "casual" but fails spectacularly. expect stilted conversations, overly formal greetings, and maybe even a slight stutter.
he starts noticing the little things: the way you focus in class, the way you help others, your smile. he may even write these things down.
secretly, he admires your quirk. he's fascinated by its applications and effectiveness. he'll ask you about it, phrasing it as "research," but it's really just an excuse to talk to you.
he becomes fiercely protective of you during training exercises. he won't let you get hurt, even if it means risking himself.
if he sees you struggling with something (homework, a training technique), he'll be the first to offer assistance. expect a detailed explanation and hands-on guidance.
he will absolutely ask his brother, ingenium for advice (and get teased relentlessly). tensei probably gives him the worst, most cliche love advices ever.
he blushes so easily! a simple compliment from you can send his face into overdrive.
DATING TENYA IIDA:
the confession is direct and earnest. he'll lay out his feelings clearly, explain why he admires you, and ask you to consider being his partner. no beating around the bush.
dates are planned with military precision. expect a detailed itinerary, backup plans, and contingency measures for every possible scenario.
he's a gentleman. doors are opened, chairs are pulled out, and he always walks you home safely.
he takes your opinions and ideas very seriously. he values your input and will always consider your perspective.
PDA is kept to a minimum. maybe holding hands while walking, but anything more is reserved for private moments.
he loves studying with you. he finds it soothing and productive to hear your input on different topics
he's a surprisingly good listener. he genuinely cares about your thoughts and feelings, and he'll remember everything you tell him.
he will help you organize everything. your notes, your training schedule, your closet. it's his love language.
When you two have alone time, he relaxes a lot. the serious Tenya disappears and you get to see a goofy, loving side of him where he becomes more confident.
he likes learning from you. he always wants to improve as a hero and a human being so you teaching him things makes him happy.
he cherishes your relationship more than hero work sometimes, and he makes sure you know that.
he will write you letters instead of text, especially when he is away.
he loves giving you piggyback rides because of his engines. he will run you around everywhere, and he only stops when you ask him to stop.
he loves wearing matching outfits with you. they may not be the most fashionable, but he will love wearing them with you always!

The Cardinal Lifeblood

Had this cooking ever since I saw a post months back about the possibility of Blaze having a rival like how Sonic does with Shadow.
So here is my take on Sol’s little underwater facility secret: The Cardinal Lifeblood—Blink the Cat
I’ve written a little backstory for them below if it interests anyone, heh
Blue was the first color Blink had ever seen. It surrounded them in every direction. There was never a sky full of stars to sleep under, nor was there ever the bright light of the morning sun to wake to. The ocean was all they ever knew. That and their purpose.
When Blink was allowed out of their chamber for the first time, their bare paws touched cold tile, their coat heavy with the liquid they’d been soaked in since their creation dripping into a puddle on the floor. Their creator looked them in the eye with an expression of awe. Blink hadn't been the first attempt in creating a perfected form of life. Blink’s creator, Director Enid Leclair had worked her entire professional career to achieve what she had only ever believed to be an unreachable dream, but when her efforts had paid off the moment those eyes opened to reflect hers, she knew she’d made history for the entirety of Sol.
The Cardinal Lifeblood breathes.
A sentient creature, one that could speak, listen, and perform. Stronger than any battery created— Blink was the newest battery to power The Keel, a facility deep below Sol’s oceans, the pinnacle of human advancements in science and engineering that resided on the seabed. It was comparable to that of an underwater city, untouchable like the myths in a storybook. It was the home to Sol’s many scientists, majority of them shunned by society for their participation and fascination with bioengineering. It was here that these individuals were tasked by Director Enid Leclair in creating a power source strong enough to maintain the entire system keeping The Keel running. They called it Operation Nightlight.
Blink’s DNA was composed of pure concentrated Sol Energy, taken from traceable remnants left behind in the aftermath of battles where the Sol Emeralds were used. It had taken years to develop what would become Blink, their DNA a complex code made from genetic engineering specialists. The prototypes before Blink had never developed appropriately, many never exceeding past stage three. After Blink was announced as the first to succeed, Operation Nightlight allowed The Keel of Seabed Enterprises to bloom into a large-scale production of new scientific discoveries and weaponry.
Blink was never allowed above the water’s surface for the years they were made to stay in The Keel. During their time in the facility they were trained daily to have control over their battery-like abilities, given pressure balancing rings to wear around their wrists called Venting Valves. They help Blink in maintaining normal levels of electrical activity within their body, that way they do not become so overwhelmed that they might explode. Blink received homework to educate them about what was above the ocean, and they were also taught defensive tactics in combat drills. They were often made to practice swimming outside The Keel to build up their endurance and focus, with their body able to withstand the water pressure so far down it also became Blink’s task to dislodge or fix any problems affecting The Keel’s outer shell that the humans couldn't do on their own.
Life on The Keel wasn’t much better, but Blink had grown used to being treated as a tool. The scientists and workers that walked the halls were never too friendly with Blink; some ignored the cat completely. Director Enid was the only human who’d ever cared to speak with Blink like an actual person. Blink and Enid had a close relationship, one could say Enid was Blink’s mother from how she always asked Blink for their opinions on things or asked how she was— even the gifts Enid brought from the surface world to give to Blink were indicative of how much she cared for the feline. Blink might’ve felt alone and ostracized upon The Keel, but with the Director they felt at home.
Until home was taken away.
The Keel of Seabed Enterprises had been infiltrated. Blink had no clue what they could do, but upon seeing Enid being dragged down the hallway by what looked to be Sol’s imperial armed forces, the cat could do nothing but look on in horror. Enid had shouted something before she disappeared from sight, “I’ll be with you when the Sun rises, dear. I promise.”
And so Blink left behind the bodies of scientists and engineers, departing from The Keel and rising from the sea floor higher than they’d ever been. When they reached the surface of the rippling waves, they witnessed their first experience of the sky, took in their first breath of Sol’s air, and heard the sound of seagulls flying overhead.
They saw their first sunrise.
Alone at sea.

android gojo headcanons
ok wow this was longer than i thought. i hope you guys enjoy
android sukuna version
You were a beta tester for Jujutsu Technology. Your job description was quite straightforward. You just acted like a customer who bought the product you were testing and gave feedback based on what you experienced.
This time, your employers wanted you to test out the newest of the Gojo line, the S4T0RU model. He was an android for a myriad of purposes. The engineers must've been quite proud of themselves for coming up with him.
He was the strongest and most durable out of all the androids they've come up with, possibly even surpassing the SUKUN4 model. Not only that, but he came with Jujutsu Technology's best intelligence chip, their most advanced one to date. He could learn at speeds no human could match.
He could protect his owner from any and all harm, he assists with all your chores with peak efficiency, he can tutor your children, help out with homework, he could provide companionship... and other more "adult" things.
In short, he's the jack of all trades for androids. There was a reason he cost the highest out of all of them.
For this simulation, you were meant to act as a single mother who recently lost her husband and needs assistance with her two children. The two children were androids created for testing, since it was too risky to use actual children in the process.
It started with unboxing him, the same way any buyer would. So far, you encountered no issues. Setup just required you to log into the app and configure the mode you need him for. Options included: Fighter mode, Caretaker mode, and... Pleasure mode. You clicked on "Caretaker mode".
When he woke up from his slumber, he greeted you and your children. Megumi didn't take too well to him, but Tsumiki quite liked him. You noted that his voice module was fully operational, no glitching or echoing. This version of him was still a prototype so his personality was a bit blank for the time being. It'd likely only start developing after spending time with you and the kids.
Your theory was proven right when you put the S4T0RU android to the test, asking him to do basic chores like vacuuming the floor and cleaning up the kids' toys. Tsumiki showered him in praises, which he basked in, wearing a smug smirk as he showed off his prowess.
You couldn't help the amused smile as you watched him pick up the sofa with one hand to vacuum, even though he could've just moved it to the side to achieve the same results. An android that was a showoff. How interesting.
Next task was to test his skill in teaching, asking him to help homeschool Megumi. It would prove to be a little more difficult than the basic house chores. This was especially the case with Megumi's model, who was designed to simulate a more... difficult and moody child. Androids who couldn't handle him usually didn't make the cut and got scrapped.
Despite Satoru's initial rocky start with him, he eventually got the hang of it and figured out how to get the child android to listen.
The more you spent time with him, the more attached you felt to the android. Out of all the androids, he seemed the most... lovable.
You weren't part of the Pleasure Department so you didn't have the most experience regarding the more... sensual androids.
But you couldn't quite recall whether the previous androids you tested were as... touchy as Satoru was. You never seemed to go a day where he hasn't had his large arms wrapped around your waist or shoulder.
While assisting you with chores, he made conversation, asking you about your interests and hobbies. He listened intently, hanging onto every word of your responses.
Whenever you got back home from "work", you'd find him playing with the kids, either having tea parties with Tsumiki or watching animal documentaries with Megumi. Upon noticing your arrival, his eyes light up with excitement. He rushes to your side, eager to help you relax after a long day.
He'd make you a cup of your favorite drink, making you sigh with relief. Every task you've made him do was a success. He should be good to go now. All you had to do was give him clearance to be mass produced and sold to the public.
As you rested your head on his shoulder, hearing the gentle hum of his system, you felt a twinge of pain, knowing that the life you've grown so attached to will eventually come to an end - that this fabricated life you've built with him would be gone in just a few days.
"Do you have to let me go?" Satoru's question made your heart stop. There was not a single android who has gained awareness of the simulation. But somehow, he acted like this was a fact he understood since long ago.
You let out a shaky breath. "I... have no choice. This is what they pay me for. You'll be taken from me regardless."
He gave you a chesire smile. "Their first mistake was giving me the tools to bust us out of here."
Satoru disconnected his system from the Jujutsu Network and grabbed the two kids, doing the same to them. Alarms started blaring, alerting all the workers that an android had gone rogue.
He picked the three of you up, breaking out of the compound.
You weren't quite sure what the future had in store for you. But you were sure that you'd be fine as long as you had Satoru and your newfound family by your side.

if you have the option to study environmental engineering:
don't
do not
seriously
it sucks in here
i'm dying
i've already cried once today thinking about my homework, and i am Extremely Close to round 2 of crying breakdown
you want teachers to explain things in a way that makes sense? go fuck yourself
you want textbooks that explain things in a way that makes sense? you'll have better luck trying to read a rock. or smashing your skull in with the rock. either of those would be more productive
i've spent the last 6? 7? hours trying to wrap my head around drinking water treatment. i've gone over the chapter in my textbook, the recorded lecture, my notes from the first time i saw the lecture, my notes from the second time i saw the lecture, a youtube video with problem examples my teacher sent us, and my notes from the youtube video. none of it explains things in a way that makes sense
pretty sure my classmates all either used chegg or chatgpt to do their homework
i asked for an extension so i could have more time to try and wrap my head around this shit. nothing works
even if the thought of emailing a teacher and asking for help didn't fill me with more dread than final exam week, every time any of us have tried to ask for help the teacher for this class has just been confused at the concept of people not understanding this stuff right away
i've still got stats homework due tonight
that's the one i cried about earlier
genuinely i consider dropping out of this major at Least once a month. usually several times.
i love water systems and i love sewers and i want to do this. but the instruction quality? the vibes around the department? they suck. so bad
i'm on my second "take a break and go on tumblr before i throw my laptop out the window" break of the day
K I L L M E
#what if i dropped out and lived under a bridge#what if i dropped out and wandered the earth befriending the crows#what if i dropped out and then set my school on fire#what if i dropped out and then set the entire planet on fire#what if i dropped out and drank up all the water so that theres no water left for everyone else#you'll all die of dehydration and then i'll finally be free of having to figure out chlorine vs ozone drinking water treatment#i've only got 1 more month of this semester and then next fall. and then i'll have my stupid bullshit degree in dealing with stupid bullshi#but ohhhhhhhhh my god that's still too long#supposedly actually working in the field is better than school. it better be fucking true#otherwise i'm gonna replace the chlorine in the water supply with bees#you want tap water? too bad. its bees now. fuck you#the bees are all covered in giardia and cryptosporidium#good luck. fuck you

Meeting with my Catholic counselor
May 2, 2025 St. Athanasius, Doctor of the Church
It's been over a month since our last session. I was too busy during Lent with work that my counselor said "it sounds like God gave you an extra cross to bear. We sometimes have plans, but God has other plans for us."
Looking back at Lent and that project for work, I felt like it was a complete failure. I spent many nights stressing out over it, sitting on my bed until 4am slaving away to get my code to work. It was poorly scoped, poorly executed, not production-level. Exactly nothing that I was proud of to deliver.
With these experiences, my counselor always challenges to ask me what God's plan was for him to give me that cross.
"Sometimes you may want to be more virtuous with patience and God gives you a child who really tests you on that."
I did ask for that challenge. I wanted to have more ownership in my work, something more challenging to test my software engineering and software design abilities. I made many mistakes. Many times I wanted to give up and start over. Many times I wondered if I was meant for this job. I wondered if my heart was even into it anymore - the education, the career and the work that I dreamed of having which I now live. I also wondered if this job was a cross that was too much to bear on top of taking care of my family.
Looking at it now with a clear mind, even with my thoughts constantly telling me that everything was a failure, it turned out fine. We delivered in good time. I learned that I could rely on my teammates to help me instead of doing it all alone.
What did suffer was my mental health, my presence with my family, my ability to support and care for them. My husband and I were contemplating over my coworker's recent departure. My husband told me that work will never remember or even know about the late nights I spend working. We're just a number and can be easily replaced. But our family will remember those late nights - the late nights that turn into exhausted days that end up in stress, anger and yelling.
It makes me wonder. Why, God, what is your true message in this? And after all that was said and done, the project came back to haunt me and is having a reprise at a more complex scale.
I'm starting to realize that my thoughts are mostly mine and not His. That I need to pray more and ask for His plan. What is Your will that you wish to be done?
A part of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help novena used to always be with me in my notebooks at work and now even more than ever do I need to remind myself of it:
"I am the servant of the Lord, I will what God wills, when he wills it, as he wills it, because he wills it."
~
(Some random thoughts since it's late.)
My counselor also gave me guidance for wrath. Whenever I start to feel myself slip into rage, I need to remember to "Pause. Pray. Proceed."
Pause and stop myself from escalating my feelings and emotiosn further. Pray for guidance and help from God. Then after I've calmed down and received guidance, to proceed and carry out His will.
And an analogy that unlearning old habits is like hiking a trail. The more you continually go down the same path, the more your footsteps cause a path to become a trail. When you're trying to undo old habits, you will take another path. It will be unwalked at first and be difficult to get through, but the more you walk it, the easier it will get. The old path will become overgrown and harder to go through the more you keep going down the new path.
~
I also received some homework. My counselor recommended I read St. Francis de Sales' "Introduction to the Devout Life" so that I can learn about a Rule of Life.

I genuinely. I understand why people use chatgpt for things like emails and HR-speak text. That is what it is good at! Even like. Rewrite this thing to make it sound [blank]. There are energy efficiency issues with generative AI in general, but like. At least you’re using the tool for the thing it is good at! It is good at generic text where it can mash up everyone else’s generic text. Definitely proofread it to make sure it’s saying what you want it to say (or anything at all).
(And honestly. An individual using chatgpt occasionally for emails is a drop in the bucket given how many companies are forcing generative AI into products and workflows, at this point you are not the problem, go forth.)
I do not understand why it is used as a search engine. I do not understand why it is used to create grocery lists. I understand needing help on grocery lists!!!! I personally have difficulty with this!!! Chatgpt will not make you a good grocery list because it understands what you need from the store LESS than you do. It doesn’t even know what a grocery store is. It is bullshitting it worse than you could ever bullshit it. There are online tools/videos/lessons which can help you meal prep and grocery shop that are made by people for people. I don’t understand when people ask it technical questions. Use a regular search engine and a real person will have written the answer on a forum or wikipedia page and I would trust that a lot more than generated text. Don’t even think about asking it math questions unless you have a special LLM that’s connected to a calculator and even then you’re probably better off looking up your homework on Chegg. I’m being so honest — ask a friend to help you. Or ask a math forum! There are many real people who actually understand math (unlike chatpgt which only pretends to understand math) who are willing and ready to help you. Hell. If you’re reading this, feel free to ask ME! My asks are open for math or physics questions.
The Meta AI didn’t even answer a question on thermodynamics correctly IN THEIR OWN ADVERTISEMENT.

There's a gentle dash of audacity, this year, this time. It's no meeting carefully engineered to be fleeting, an entrance racing to its exit, a script prattling to its end — Instead of dropping in between classes, waylaying her on the way to a seminar, running an errand and happening to see her there, his feet carry him to her doorstep, where he lingers. Where his hand hovers for a long, long moment. Where he thinks about the little liberties he's allowed himself around her in all his usual hideawaying and think, this isn't that unusual. Where he gathers his courage and knocks.
Rap-tap. Sharp, steady, unmistakeable. Gloved knuckles hover a moment longer, before lowering to grip the strap of their bag, waiting for her to open the door, waiting for the sound of her voice, waiting for her eyes to brighten, dousing them in color like spring in full bloom.
God, what is wrong with them?
Whatever it is, it's enough to make them keep doing this.
Fidgeting, Chad draws a little parcel out halfway, if only so they don't fumble it. Fingers smooth out the paper, flowers drawn on it by hand, fields of daisies as far as the eye can see. Inside, an array of animal-shaped cookie cutters, laid aside a charm of leather cord, strung with red beads.
They jerk a little when the door opens.
"Maria," they say, and they thought they had more to say, better, more heartfelt congratulations, but every other word evaporates. They flounder for all but a second. Bone-deep dread expands, then implodes inside of them in a howling burst of footfalls, before something rushes back into the space left hollow —
And then, somehow, they're just struck with this stupid little grin. Buoyed aloft, dangerously teering with no fear of falling, sweet-spun and sugar-high on candied strawberries and rosewater sunlight. There's no script. There's no doors. There's no ticking clock.
What the fuck?
What the fuck???
A wrist flicks. Miraculously still deft, they flip the box up out of the bag and hand it to her with both hands. "Happy birthday." They finish, lamely (ducking into their cloak, still smiling).
(there is, naturally, a part of them that is fully freaking the fuck out. please give them about five business minutes to start doing so.)
Though Maria isn't one to create and hold onto expectations, hope is another thing entirely, for as little as she wants to lay these small, unknowable wishes upon their shoulders -- oh, she cannot help herself! She is too easily swayed by the need to every so often kick her feet; every thought and daydream too easily fractured by the errant thrill that bubbles in her chest; wholly, utterly powerless to stop her fingertips from stippling her cheeks, waiting for a promise of affection that she knows full well was never made, and just as surely never owed.
No, not it is not expectation, but stubbornly hopeful anticipation. A letter from her brother, a warm hug from her sister, and… and…!
Digits radiate outward all at once, chin abashedly shoved into the wedge of her palms. They don't owe her anything-- really, they don't-- but she yearns for the affections of the ones she holds affection for. And is there truly fault in that? A dollop of silliness, perhaps, but nothing more greedy than to see herself in their eyes when they smile.
...her homework is a hopeless endeavor at this evening hour, for though it mellows as it wanes, there is far too much daylight left. Instead she reaches for a notebook, flipping to an empty page and staring at it for a while, productiveness much the same as before. (She does manage a title at least, 'Yellow Ribbon Cheesecake' looping across the top of the page, though its margins feature more crudely drawn smiles than ingredients or measurements.)
Rap-tap. Maria jolts, stills, and then beams, recipes forgotten as she trots to her door. She would hesitate to open it, the way her heart titters and swells -- would, were she not so excited. Instead she pulls it open in a fleeting, floating moment, rose-colored eyes searching, landing, finding. And all the world is a little brighter.
"Chad!" A name, a single syllable, and still not short enough to outpace her smile; the corners of her lips pull wide, a crescent smile tipping her head askew. Strands of crimson tickle her shoulder, and for once, she feels the urge to tuck it behind her ear -- does so, and pulls her arms toward herself, one knuckle touching the corner of her lips as she breathes a giddy little laugh.
The funny thing about such an innocent anticipation is the way it blooms, like when you hold a shard of glass to the sun at just the right angle and all its light scatters through its entirety: knowing no one has made it perfect, and everything has made it beautiful. Such is her world in this moment, set aglow.
Though she can see it in his eyes, Chad tucks his smile away, that precious, terrible way he does when he's feeling shy. Her hand shifts, the back of her thumb pressed against her lips as she stifles another giggle. "You remembered," she replies happily, the way one does when it was never in question. Fingers tap against the underside of the parcel, lingering a moment ere taking hold of it in earnest. When she does, it is against her chest, close to her heart.
"...hee hee. Thank you... I'm really happy." Catching the corner of his sleeve, Maria takes care to hold his gaze, warmth though it may bring to her cheeks, so that he knows that she means it. Then, when she is sure he knows, her eyes squeeze shut in abundant affection.
"Really, really... really happy!"
#lycianlynx#long post#aururghghhrugughghhhg theyre EVERYTHING to me!!!!!#never mind the fact my style has no consistency he is so warm and safe to her#and i just [CRUSHES A CAN IN MY FIST]#i wish them the joy of all things vibrant and embarrassingly saccharine#princessmacedoodles

Hi Kait! Can I have a Match-Up? I love your way of writing, and I would love to know which character you think would suit me better (romantically). And I'm sorry in advance because this is very, very long, so I'll do it in parts, haha ^^'
I'm a 18 y/o female, ISTJ, 9w1, demiromantic atracted for men and sex repulsed ace. I'm a computer engineering student, but I'm also a certified nursing and pharmacy assistant because, well, I was given the opportunity and trying other fields is always interesting.
If we talk about socializing, I can be a bit... complicated. Crowds, meeting and talking to new people exhaust me and generate anxiety, always with this pit in my stomach, fearing to say or do something wrong. If it's not strictly necessary, I would never approach a stranger unless they speak to me first. And despite all of that, I've managed to be on good terms and even joke around with my classmates, and to earn both their trust and our teachers' trust, being the class representative for these two years.
I still feel stupidly nervous around them, but I do something right since both my classmates and teachers have the idea that I am "efficient" and "responsible", even though I am incredibly disorganized and forgetful, procrastinating instead of doing my homework and study for tests until the last minute.
What is certain is that I am quite helpful, I am always willing to help, guide and collaborate with others in whatever way possible, and I consult the opinion of my colleagues, looking for the solution that best satisfies all of us when it comes to make a decision for the class. I am also the type of person who greets, offers and returns smiles, apologizes and thanks everyone, even though inside I feel horrible, because courtesy is something that was instilled in me from a very young age and it is already natural. However, I know and make my limits clear, because just as I don't like to take advantage of others, I don't allow others to take advantage of me; trying that is one of the few ways my patience can be exhausted, along with certain noises that affect me because of my misophonia.
Although I can be productive if I put my mind to it, my mind tends to wander and I get frustrated with myself because of it. My head is almost always in the clouds, I have tripped over my own feet more times than I can count and once I couldn't even find my glasses even though I already had them on, what a case huh?
— (1/3)
Although socializing makes me anxious, my friends are the exception. I don't have many, but the ones I do have I value with all my heart and would definitely fight for them; With my friends I talk about everything and nothing, about topics like the new series that premiered, our favorite artists, how our day was, and also our personal problems, exchanging advice or just being there and listening. I tend to be more of a listener than a speaker, I really enjoy hearing what others have to say, going silent and nodding to let them know I'm paying attention, and giving my opinion at the end if they want to. Sometimes, however, I get carried away and go on at length about my thoughts and tastes, which makes me feel a little embarrassed and leaves me afraid that I "spoke too much," even though my friends always assure me that it's not like that.
What I love most about talking with my friends is debating, expressing our views on different topics and the reasoning behind them. We don't always agree, but that's okay, it's even more fun that way! I always try to keep my mind open and even if I'm not convinced by what has been said, I respect other people's opinions.
Something I don't love is cooking, I mean, I can do it, but I'm not a fan of it. I'm also not really into adrenaline rush, "wacky" activities or activities that involve crowds, and I don't drink or smoke. I can tolerate the cigarette smell as long as it's not very concentrated, but alcohol... No. Drunk people make me upset, uncomfortable and very nervous, and I try to avoid them at all costs because of family issues. I am a homebody who enjoys and is satisfied with watching a movie, series or even cartoons, listening to music, playing video games or board games, talking to or simply existing in the same room with my partner, even with both of us doing different things. I'm open to trying my partner's hobbies as long as it doesn't involve anything I've already mentioned that I dislike (except maybe cooking, if it's with a partner, it can be funny).
Also, nature seems beautiful to me, and a walk in the fresh air while we talk, or having a picnic, or sitting and counting stars or looking for shapes in the clouds, all seem lovely to me. I also like animals, and whether it's a dog, a cat or a bird, having a pet sure brightens up the daily routine.
— (2/3)
My affections are spontaneous, I could hug my partner from behind, tell him I love him and kiss his cheek, or take his hand and kiss his knuckles, or run my fingers through his hair, or pat his head, or fix his clothes or... Anything I feels like doing when I passing by, and then continue on my way. Although I would make sure to respect their limits, since I have mine too, like my slight dislike for kissing on the lips, because I can have one or two but too many disgust me. I am also one to make and follow silly jokes, with a sarcastic and sometimes black humor, and I love to tease my loved ones.
I have a bad temper, and I am so aware of it that I distance myself from others in order not to hurt them, because when angry I tend to speak and act derogatory. I never mean to hurt anyone, but when I do, I own up to my mistake, apologize for it, and do my best to correct my behavior. I warn those close to me in advance of my bad mood, to avoid conflict as much as possible.
For me, the most important thing in a relationship is honesty, followed by communication. My friends have told me I'm so honest it hurts, that's something I'm also aware of, but I'm adamant that even an ugly truth is better than a white lie. I always give them the truth so I hope they give it back to me, because even if it hurts, it's better if they lie to me. I am also usually the first person to try to clear up misunderstandings, approaching and offering a talk, because I think that as long as something can be talked about it can be solved, although I think that it is best to take some time to calm down and be able to talk properly.
That's all! Thank for your time a have a good day/afternoon/night! :)
PS: I sent the first message anonymously, but the second one didn't, so sending this one how anonymously doesn't make sense. Sorry about that, haha
— (3/3)
I match you with...
Jumin!
To put it simply, you're the kind of person that understands what you like and how you like it. That can be difficult to find in this world because sometimes you don't know what you like until you really put yourself out there. You value communication and being able to talk to somebody. You don't want to be lost in translation. You want somebody who looks at you and understands how to talk to you without even trying. Of course, it's never as simple as that. It's never that easy. It's something you have to work on with your partner. That being said, the person who relates most to you in this situation is Jumin Han. He is the one person in the world who would be able to understand what it means to value a conversation like fine wine.
When it comes to love language he is the one person who would be able to keep up with you in terms of talking about anything and everything. Talking really is his love language. Sure, there are a lot of other things wrapped up in there, but what matters more to him is the ability to be able to experience the warmth of a long conversation with somebody. That's truly all he's ever wanted out of romance and life. He wants somebody who can sit next to him and talk about whatever. It doesn't matter what it is.
All in all, you can have a great relationship with him because you both seem to fit like puzzle pieces. He never has to worry when it comes to what you mean. You never have to worry about what he's feeling. It's something that two of you have come to understand about one another. Sure, it was a little messy in the start, but what is it messy? But now you have each other and long conversations in front of the fireplace.

this should work, but im not totaly convinced. if all school work was good and productive, but alot of the school system is, at least in my opinion, and in the uk where i am, quite flawed. required subjects that just arent productive to what you care about, homwork set for everyone when some students have already done enough, and dont need more practice on a topic, and others dont cant even do it and need more suport. sometimes its not about the process, its about the end result, and school often defaults to one sise fits all solutions, when students are smart enough to know where thaats not right for them. in that case, when the system is unable to adapt to them, generative ai would have a perfectly sensible use.
people like using medicen and law as exampels, but sometimes its just french translation homework for somone whoes degree is in engineering and a levels are in maths and phisics, or 50 maths questions that are just number crunching for somone who understood the content after 5 and was bored out of there mind by 15. not all work is usefull, and not all learning actualy teaches you somthing. maby not everyone knows the diferance, but 16-17 year olds are smart, and people dont say "normaly avoid gen AI" they say "never use it"
on a more general note, i recently wrote some shader code to process images, and chat GPT helped alot. i would not have finished it without, my coding skills are just not to that level and it would have taken time to learn, which i just dont have right now, but with chatgpt's help i got it working and it was fun, and i realy enjoyed the result. it brought me alot of joy, and i think building and fine tuning it had some genuine artistic vale. i dont see whats wrong with that in itself, beyond the flaws wth data privacy and job security, but tbh those are just flaws of regulation and capitalism.
ur future nurse is using chapgpt to glide thru school u better take care of urself

y'know i'm autistic and a little bit stuck on this bc of how egregious it is, so beneath the cut is my off the cuff suggestions for a BETTER study or sets of studies to evaluate usage of LLMs on learning and cognition in general
first thing i would do is a fucking LITERATURE REVIEW on BOTH groups of studies done on LLM usage up to this point, AND studies on CHILDHOOD COGNITION AND LEARNING.
whatever that information/conclusions presents would influence where i go from there
without doing that, my thoughts are:
if they were concerned abt ppl using LLMs for schoolwork in particular, they SHOULD have pulled standardized cognitive tests and benchmarks of learning/retention that have already been used in many studies and used those SAME TESTS/TOOLS ON THE SAME/RELEVANT AGE GROUPS
in other words, they should've pulled data on certain demographics and cognition and learning ability from years/decades BEFORE LLMs were in popular usage.
data about how teenagers and preteens do homework in the years before 2020 would be immensely helpful as a benchmark/point of reference.
then you pull random kids of the same age and demographic, in roughly the same sample sizes as the referent studies, and do the SAME TESTS.
you give them no instructions except that they should do the assignment however they would normally do it.
boom, first major part of the study done.
you compare those results directly to previous results and put them in conversation with each other.
there are confounding factors, of course: are short attention spans to be pinned on socmed rather than LLMs? so getting data from when socmed was still in popular use is important.
but that is information that you can compare from BEFORE LLM usage and AFTER LLM usage.
another would be an aggregate study.
gathering information from across however many participating public schools across the nation
what do their curriculums look like?
what are their average scores?
how do teachers teach now?
what is the presence of LLMs in the classroom?
do an entire aggregate survey and analysis of that data, as well.
boom, there you go, direct before and after data to compare.
THEN.
you could look at how LLM usage changes depending on age group, demographic, educational background, assignment, etc.
ask ppl how much they've used an LLM, if at all. split them up based on that. then sub-split them by age group and educational level.
give them all THE SAME TASK WITH THE SAME TOOLS.
have the LLM-dependent groups perform tasks without an LLM available and then measure their brain wave activities AND ALSO check the quality and accuracy of the work they produce
compare this to the group that only uses LLMs sometimes
and the group that basically never uses an LLM (with some leeway, since it's unlikely that you'll find someone 18 and under who has NEVER used an LLM)
you compare brain activity, work method, how long it takes them to complete the task, and the quality and accuracy of the final product
then you can switch it up: everyone can use search engines and databases for research, but not LLMs
then you switch it up again: everyone can and HAS to use an LLM for their wok
now what you can compare is: the brain activity of LLM-dependent ppl doing the task without an LLM, with search engines and databases, and with an LLM.
and you can compare that to the brain activity and results of ppl who are NOT dependent upon LLMs.
i think what they would probably find is that LLM-dependent participants would struggle to persevere. the final quality of the work would be all over the place. the accuracy would, as well. their methodology for solving problems and addressing prompts and completing tasks would likewise be all over the place.
the other groups would vary depending on what they consider their strengths to be, but would generally be much less likely to struggle with the tasks themselves. i think the quality of the work would, again, depend on what their "wheelhouse" is, but would overall and generally be better or show more signs of Learning and Cognition.
i also don't think there should be a time limit on their tasks (there should be a secret one which is like, 1-2 hours, for practicalities' sake). you can tell them up front: take as long as you need. we'll give you a 10 minute warning if we need to wrap up and move onto the next participant, but don't worry abt it until then. whether you complete the task is not important.
then you also have the length of time it takes each group to complete each task.
and you can normalize based on the information you gather from each participant--if they take a long time for EVERY task, then you can adjust, mathematically (however that happens, again, i'm not a STEM person lol), for making those times fit the rest of the data rather than calling them outliers.
anyway point being, you gain a lot more information.
i also think that there should be a final test: a written or verbal test asking them to recall the information they learned and synthesized in those previous tasks.
and finally, a post-study interview.
what was it like doing these assignments? which felt easy or hard? why? what approach did you take? do you feel like this is comparable to how you did in school?
etc etc etc so on and so forth
that way they don't change their approach based on previous knowledge of what questions will be asked of them.
i think all of that^^ would provide a lot better data
would it be harder and more time consuming to do? YEP.
but it can be done in stages.
because the other thing with this fucking bullshit bogusass study is that they COULD have just said "this is preliminary, proof of concept"
they COULD have said "for various reasons, these results cannot be and are not conclusive. but this is a proof of concept that there is something worth researching here."
this could've been pitched LIKE THAT. but it wasn't. i read the paper. nowhere in it does it suggest anything like that, as far as i could find.
if it had been pitched that way, it would've been a preliminary study that would prove they deserve the time, $, and resources to DO the bigger and more thorough studies that i outlined above.
"see, this study proves that there's something worth studying more in depth. even in this small preliminary study, we've shown that LLMs do affect memory and cognition in ways that we would need to do more research to understand. give us the ability to do that research."
but they didn't.
they're acting like this study is enough to stand on its own. IT IS NOT.
anyway

Build Your Brand with a Car Detailing Franchise Today.

Starting your own business can feel like standing at the edge of a big decision. You may have the passion, the motivation, and even some experience—but still, it’s not easy to figure out everything alone. That’s where a car detailing franchise can help.
If you’re someone who’s interested in automobiles, enjoys keeping things clean and shiny, and dreams of being your own boss, then a car detailing franchise might just be your perfect launchpad. In this blog, let’s talk about how franchising can help you build your own brand while getting the support you need from day one.
What Is a Car Detailing Franchise?
A car detailing franchise is a ready-to-go business setup. Instead of creating a new brand or system from scratch, you get a complete package from an already established company. This usually includes the name, training, tools, support, and marketing help to run your detailing center smoothly.
You still own and operate your outlet, but you’re backed by a team that already knows what works in the market.
Why Not Just Start Your Own Brand?
You might wonder, “Why should I go with a franchise? Why not start my own detailing shop?”
Great question. Starting your own business is a good thing, but doing it without guidance can be tough. You have to figure out everything—what equipment to buy, what services to offer, how to price them, how to get customers, how to market on social media, and so on.
When you start with a franchise, a lot of this is already figured out for you. You get a solid foundation. You don’t waste time experimenting with what works—you begin with a system that’s already working in other places.
How It Helps You Build Your Brand
Here’s the best part: even though you’re using the name of a franchise, you’re actually building your own name and identity in your area.
People may come in because of the known brand, but they stay and return because of your service, your team, and your approach. Over time, customers will start saying, “I always go to that detailing center near me—they do the best work.” That’s how you build your own local brand while being part of a bigger network.
It’s a win-win. You get recognition faster, and at the same time, you build a strong business with your own loyal customer base.
You’re Not Alone—You’re Guided
Starting something new always feels better when someone’s got your back. With a detailing franchise, you get complete training on:
How to use detailing products and machines
How to offer different services
How to talk to customers
How to manage your team
How to handle marketing and promotions
Even if you don’t have any technical background, you’ll learn everything from the basics to advanced techniques. That’s the beauty of it—you grow with support.
What Services Can You Offer?
In a typical detailing franchise setup, you’ll be offering a wide range of popular services such as:
Car and bike washing
Interior deep cleaning
Polishing and waxing
Ceramic or paint protection coatings
Engine bay cleaning
Upholstery and fabric care
Headlight restoration
Foam wash and sanitization
These services are in demand almost throughout the year. Whether it’s the festival season, monsoon, or summer, people care about keeping their vehicles clean and shiny.

When someone walks into a detailing center, they instantly notice the setup—how the staff behaves, what machines are being used, how the place looks, and how organized everything is. A franchise setup gives you that professional vibe right from day one.
This helps in gaining the trust of new customers quickly. People are more likely to choose a detailing service that looks clean, professional, and systematic.
Grow Faster, Grow Better
Because the franchise has already done the homework for you—like branding, product testing, customer service models—you can focus directly on growth.
Many franchise owners start with one outlet and then expand to multiple locations once they get a good grip on the business. With consistent service and a positive attitude, your journey can move much faster than someone who started completely on their own.
The Auto Care Industry Is Booming
Every year, more people are buying vehicles, and with rising awareness, car owners are now more interested in regular cleaning, protection coatings, and detailing. It’s no longer just a one-time thing. People want their cars to look showroom-fresh all year round.
This opens up a huge opportunity for detailers who provide quality service and a good customer experience. If you’re in the business—or planning to get in—this is the right time to take the leap.

If you’ve been dreaming of starting your own business, but didn’t know where to begin, a car detailing franchise is a smart option. You get:
A proven system
Full training and support
A recognized name

so i'm aware this advice isn't going to work for everyone, feel free to take it or leave it as you will, but since it works for me it's worth sharing - have you tried starting with a task that has extremely low barrier to entry and chaining the important stuff to that?
like, when i was in university, video games that had daily achievements were the only reason i got most of my assignments done
because when you're neurodivergent and struggle with starting tasks, there's a couple of things that might be causing a mental block
1) task too confusing - basically your brain doesn't know where to begin on this task and thus it's just paused everything until you can figure out the correct steps to take. when this is the issue, breaking it down into small chunks and writing down an order to do them in is a great solution
or it could be 2) task too scary. you know what this task involves but there's a lot of uncertain or unpleasant parts of it, so your brain has turned it into a hot stove reaction. getting someone else involved to help you is usually the best way around this one
but then there's 3) task engine won't start (otherwise known as autistic inertia). moving from rest to task mode takes energy, and if your energy is being taken up by being too tired or either of the problems above, you can keep trying to start that engine and it's just gonna keep sputtering at you
so the way around that one is to give yourself a task that removes all of the other barriers that might be draining your energy. if you're tired, do something that you can do while tired. if you're scared of the big task, start with a small task you're not scared of. if the task is confusing, start with something really easy to complete, ideally something you've done before
this is where video game dailies came in really handy for me. i would always do them when i got home, before i started any other school related tasks. and important distinction - this was not me deciding to rest and relax before starting the task, playing video games WAS the task. if you put your brain in time to relax mode, then it's easy to lose track of time and spend all day gaming and that just adds stress
but video game dailies gave me a natural stopping point. i log in, which is easy, requires very little energy, and isn't at all scary. i do whatever tasks in game i've decided to do for the day
and once those were done, i'd get that little voice in my head like "okay, what's next on the list?"
and once you're in "what's next on the list", it's a lot easier to move to "why, my homework is!" than it is to go from "i wanna sleep" to "time to do several hours of coursework!"
(and if you find even the tiniest of tasks like the video game dailies is too much for you, it's probably worth taking the time to rest because then you'll get back into productive mode quicker than if you'd tried all day to work, gotten nowhere, and still hadn't managed to get your rest)

this randomly blew up on twitter so i figured i’d post it here bc lord knows everyone on this app is neurodivergent
