#Project: Arceus

Hey all, I’m currently trying to break through my writing funk by writing some Pokémon content—and right now I’m writing on a site that supports live-writing for the purposes of collaborative stories called Quests, which is a little bit like DMing for a group of people all controlling a single character.

The story, Project: Arceus, is still in its baby phase, despite it having been written almost two years ago. The protagonist, just called Protean, is the reluctantly-willing test subject of a nameless and faceless scientific organization conducting Pokémon experimentation for an unknown purpose in exchange for information about the unclear circumstances of a tragedy in their past.

i'm hosting my first sale on etsy! everything is 25% off from March 13th - April 12th, and there's a couple new limbus stickers in the shop. I'll be adding more submas stuff soon, i've just been in the limbus mines lately.

i'm also trying out different product photo styles, but i'm not sure if my camera's good enough, and i'm no master at photo editing to make pictures look good kbdflg.

i dunno, just trying things out, seeing what sticks.

i think i bumped the contrast up too high for the single sticker images. my lighting setup is... not great. working it out though. slowly.

tbh i think volo would have been significantly more normal and fine if he hadn’t been hiding so much of his true feelings and personality. like when you deny yourself genuine human connection to that degree you’re probably going to come off as a machiavellian monster who wants to make the world and the lives of others worse, but looking at his actual stated motivations and intentions it’s clear to me at least that the guy is deeply empathetic and idealistic and more than anything disappointed that the world can’t be better

to incentivize you to take a peek, give me a tiny kiss, here's my favorite portion of the scene i wrote on Sunday.

You’re in the face of a Predator.

If she looks at you, you won’t be able to run. The Poison will eclipse you. The acid will take your wings first, melt them straight off the joint. The venom will eat through your leaf-thin skin and evaporate your blood. The malodor will choke you slowly and painfully as the smog blackens and decays your lungs.

You remember her spiteful mutters when she got home one day, so deep in the night you should have been sleeping. 

'The Poisonous are Godless, forgotten by the heavens,’ she spat. ‘They are the discarded drip of Arceus’ power, the leftover refuse from Their creation of the world. They are cancerous and parasitic, good for nothing but the decay of organic life. Everything they touch will one day, and we are fortunate that that includes themselves.’

I’m currently on my week long fall break from college and decided to try my hand at digital art after months of only traditional art! I just finished watching Arcane (in its entirety) for the first time, and I've really enjoyed it! One quote from the first season stood out to me, and it was the main inspiration for this little piece. I found Arcane dealt with a lot of the same themes I also have in my Spectrum story/universe, and one of the main ones is familial/father-daughter relationships. One of my favorite scenes was the one with the line “is there anything so undoing as a daughter?” And I thought that line fit very well within the context of Spectrum.

Spectrum mostly focuses on the main protagonist Una and her guardian Emmet, who both currently reside in the distant future of Unova, but I couldn't help including Ingo and Akari. There is roughly 300 years separating Emmet and Ingo, and both lost their memories and learned to adapt to entirely new worlds. Yet mostly in Emmet’s case, his desires to rediscover himself and go home were pushed to the side when being passed the responsibility of raising a young descendant of the Unovan Hero of Ideals. Yet despite this unplanned adoption, Una became the closest Emmet had to family in the distant future despite undoing his intentions. For Ingo, I honestly love the found-family relationship a lot of the fandom has made for Ingo and Akari. I could definitely see the two becoming more like family considering they both came from another world with no way to return. I think that relationship would've changed Ingo’s outlook and his solitary life for the better. Ultimately, despite the drastic change in environment and separation from each other, the twins were able to find some good in their individual situations.

This was very much more self indulgent but it was nice to finally do some digital art after so long!

3/9 Tried to make Emmet look a little rougher-- hair messed up, shirt untucked and wrinkled, collar uneven to represent long nights poured over this board. His arm's super weird but this took far too much time already with all the individual drawings and notes.

I think it's interesting because there are the Submas/ Legends: Arceus fans who aren't as aware of Sun and Moon's plot, and those who are. And it's very clear which one is which because in one camp is the "Emmet's gonna fight God!" and blaming Arceus/Giratina for Ingo's disappearance, while on the other hand there's more talk of wormholes, the similiarities between Ingo and Anabel, and if someone will be eebie jeebied next game, etc. Both theories are fun, and there aren't specific answers given, but I lean towards Ultra Wormholes myself and Ingo being a Faller (But who's to say that Giratina wasn't involved somehow? Ever consider that distortion world may have similarities to Ultra Space? Maybe Giratina carved out a little pocket in Ultra Space to make the distortion world?) But I digress.

Do the sneasler bros do that thing that cats do when intorduced to lemons or oranges? They smell it, face of disgust. They lick it, face of disgust. They bite and try to eat it all while having a face of disgust.

It's a somewhat weirdly common cat feature. They absolutely hate the smell and taste of citrus but will attack anyone who dares try to remove the offending piece of fruit.

To be honest Ingo is a raggedly old sock puppet muppet. He'd probably give the most elderly dog version of puppy eyes, like the elderly 14 year dog eyes with their powdered muzzles and sugar dusted faces. Just let the old man have his lemon please! He's giving such a pitiful expression!

Meanwhile Emmet will use his claws and teeth.

Heavy/sad stuff ahead.

I honestly don't know what it'll take for your version of Ingo to go feral besides Akari getting hurt. No doubt he has ptsd. What will cause him to snap? To make even Emmet feel afraid of him?

It's interesting to see the usually calm, chill character just go absolutely batshit insane when they reach the end of their rope.

On the other end, does Ingo have some fear of Emmet with how crazy/feral he is? Like, they've been separated for a while and with Ingo's amnesia does he remember Emmet being this feral? Did Emmet become more feral after Ingo's disappearance?

Ingo's expression does not change. He just stares at you with his autistic eyes until you give him his citrus back.

Emmet won't let you get close enough to take it. He bites.

Elesa is just watching them like they're insane while Akari cackles hysterically.

I think, for one, Emmet would only be visibly afraid if this happened while he was still human. He's working off of just Akari's word and the tattered hat and coat that this sneasler is Ingo, not to mention Ingo has amnesia and might not even remember Emmet, so Emmet is very aware of how easily Ingo could kill him. He is walking on eggshells (and also silently studying the sneaslers so he can find their typing and how best to defeat them if he needs to).

Given that Akari is probably the only reason Ingo would go full feral mode though, there's not too much of a risk of Emmet actually getting hurt; if Akari doesn't or can't hold onto Ingo while she's distressed, she's going for Emmet next because he looks like Ingo. Even if Ingo doesn't remember Emmet that well, he recognizes that he's clearly beneficial to Akari's wellbeing.

Other than Akari getting hurt, I think the only thing that would make Ingo snap would be Lady Sneasler, her kits, or Emmet and Elesa being in trouble.

Ingo probably still tends to fight and protect by commanding his pokemon instead of using his own claws, but if he's in an emergency he will instinctively go full feral sneasler-mode on whatever is threatening his charge.

Emmet is naturally feral and while becoming an adult and having to function in society made him learn how to tone it down, when Ingo disappeared, Emmet essentially lost his impulse control. Emmet was lowkey a bit of a dick to trainers challenging his line before, but post-Ingo disappearing, Emmet is just mean. He's friendly most of the time, but the second he gets triggered all bets are off. He's still playing fair on a legal level (everything he does is still passable for competitive pokemon battling) but his empathy is just deleted. He will crush a trainer's hopes and dreams and smile while they cry.

Elesa forces him to take a break from the Battle Subway because at this rate he's going to run the reputation into the ground long before Ingo gets back. (this "break" is probably when they get yeeted back to Hisui)

All that to say that when Emmet gets to Hisui, he is stretched thin. He is already seconds away from snapping and breaking somebody's neck with his bare hands. Ironically, becoming a sneasler that is objectively far more dangerous than a human actually makes Emmet less violent.

His first few hunts are absolute carnage though. Ingo is horrified and Akari is just "whoa >:D"
