Really, the most important and positive thing I’ve taken away after becoming a Nerdfighter is the idea of imagining other people complexly. It’s just helped me understand the world much better and made everything just a little less scary. I’m really thankful for this idea, and I wish I could communicate it as effectively to my friends and John and Hank have to me. John’s writing, and more importantly, his enthusiasm for critical reading, has also sparked in me an interest in literature analysis that is much more complex than it was before. I think I’m just a better person than I was before.

It changed my life by allowing me to feel okay with becoming smarter then others, and more attracted to books and music and culture in general. I used to feel like being different wasn’t okay, but they taught me to love being different and embrace it…. I know it is cheesy, but I felt like I was acting the role of me not actually being me. Hank and John taught me to love me.

Nerdfighter Art submissions are open until November 18th! Every year for the Project for Awesome, we collect artwork that is sold to raise money for charity. Your artwork could end up being treasured by Nerdfighters all around the world! If you want to contribute some artwork for our Nerdfighter Art P4A perk, email us at nerdfighterart@gmail.com by November 18th 2022.

In your email, let us know what you have created/will be creating, the quantity (15 is ideal!), and include a photo if you can. We will let you know if it looks like a good fit for P4A and provide additional information as soon as we can, giving you a good amount of time to create your pieces. You'll be expected to ship your pieces to us no later than January 17th.

A few things to keep in mind:

Ideally you’ll be making 15+ items and shipping them to Missoula, MT for distribution.

We’re looking for small, easily shipped items. This can include knitwear, small plushies, small drawings and paintings, digital art prints, etc. Nothing super big or super fragile.

The estimated worth of the art should be $25-30 because the perk will be sold for $40.

Be mindful about avoiding common allergens in your artwork (limiting contact with animal hair/fur, etc)

The art does not need to be Nerdfighter themed, but it is highly encouraged!

that night I ended up sitting on the floor of his room for about four hours watching countless Vlogbrothers videos

The Nerdfighter community, as well as John and Hank Green, have helped me to become a more confident and kind person.

When I first heard about the Vlogbrothers, it was because my brother was laughing so loudly that I couldn’t help but go and ask him what was going on. Up until that point, my brother and I hardly spoke, even though we lived in the same home.

We were both too busy with our own lives and didn’t feel as though we had that much in common, but that night I ended up sitting on the floor of his room for about four hours watching countless Vlogbrothers videos. I’d love to say that we still do this, but we’ve both gotten older and moved apart, yet every time I see him, I know that we at least have something in common. 

Through the Vlogbrothers and Nerdfighteria, I have improved my relationship with my brother as well as met some fantastic people. I’ve become more involved in charities and volunteer work after being inspired by Project4Awesome.

I’ve found a place where I can feel safe and welcome through the Vlogbrothers and Nerdfighteria and for that I am forever thankful.

Here's the completed Crocodile Icefish. Did you know this fish has clear blood? It means there's no hemoglobin to transport oxygen because they live in such an oxygen rich environment, that it isn't necessary. This is piece 5/15 for the 2021 Project for Awesome from 2/12 - 2/14!
