It's 10pm, do you know where your RTK prototypes are? 🔧🛰️🎯

We juuuuust plugged in this uBlox RTK F9P shield into USB and given the intense cost of these modules we definitely had a nervous twitch but then we heard the "ba-dunk" of enumeration and wheeeewww it came up as a serial port. Heartened, we soldered on a right-angle SMA connector and connected a chonky active antenna . Start up a copy of u-center and huzzah, there is GNSS data streaming out. Next up, we have to figure out what we want to use as the underlying transport layer from base station to rover - maybe an ESP32-S3 Metro and ESP-Now? more research is needed!

Week 11: Learning Through Oral Recitation

After taking a break for Holy Week, we came back to our research project feeling refreshed and ready to continue. This week, we had an important face-to-face oral recitation with Sir Earl, where we discussed what we learned from Modules 7, 8, and 9.

We started with Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERDs). These are like maps that show how data is connected in a database, what kinds of information we’re storing, and how they relate to each other. Understanding ERDs helps us design better systems.

Then, we talked about Database Normalization. This is a method used to organize data in a way that avoids duplication and makes everything more efficient. By following certain steps (called normal forms), we make sure each piece of information is stored only once and in the right place. This helps keep the database clean, easy to update, and less likely to have errors.

Lastly, we looked at the Data Dictionary, which is like a guidebook for the database. It explains what each piece of data means, its type, and how it fits into the system. This is helpful for both developers and users.

The recitation with Sir Earl was challenging, but it helped us understand these topics better. It also showed us where we need to keep improving. We’re now more prepared and excited to apply what we’ve learned to improve our project.

Week 9: Halfway Progress and Holy Week Prep

This week, we were able to finish around 50% of our project, which made us feel proud and more motivated. We focused on polishing the parts we’ve already done and started preparing for the next steps. Seeing our progress slowly come together reminded us that all the effort is paying off. Even though there’s still more to do, it felt good to finally reach the halfway mark. We also made sure to communicate with each other about what’s next after the break.

At the same time, we’re starting to shift our focus a bit as Holy Week is approaching. It’s a time to slow down, reflect, and take a short break from all the school stress. Balancing project work and preparing for Holy Week wasn’t easy, but we’re managing. Week 9 was all about progress, reflection, and preparing for both school and personal peace.

#WIPWednesday: slideshow of progress shots of a piece I've been working on, on-and-off for a while which is another redux of an old piece, smaller this time. A sort of Art Deco Wonder Woman inspired piece that would have gone on my wall for the Norwescon Art show, but Norwescon got cancelled, so I guess I get to hold onto this and that elf I posted last week a bit longer.🤷 . Anyhow, there's some metallic gold gel pen to be added to help clean up some of my messiness and to finish this piece up the way I'd imagined it. . Hello lovelies! . I'm introducing our best-selling item. I realized that, while I have posted pictures of finished snoods, I've never done a progress picture. So here's what it looks like to start.
