i want to know how it has impacted your life. the scripture within. what parts speak to you. why you consider it to be sacred scripture.

i don't know what i will do yet but i think i may speak on how it convinced me of continuing revelation, contains messages of liberation and is anti-wealth inequality, it gives solid spiritual advice in growing your faith in God (and has grown my faith and my relationship with my Creator), a focus on the Living Christ, and is spiritually empowering.

One of David Wojnarowicz’s best-known pieces, Untitled (One Day This Kid...) (1990) is a photo-text collage with a portrait of the artist as an innocent child. Surrounding this anodyne, yearbook-style image is a field of text that gathers like a storm cloud, narrating a traumatic future in which this child will be persecuted—by the government, by the church, by society at large—for his sexuality. The repetition of the phrase “one day” gives the work a prophetic and propulsive cadence; it simmers with the visceral anger that defined so much of Wojnarowicz’s work as an artist and impassioned activist.

In 1991, the Brush Art Gallery at St. Lawrence University, in Canton, New York, staged the exhibition From Desire... A Queer Diary, curated by Nan Goldin. The show, which was part of a festival of gay and lesbian art, included works by David Armstrong, Greer Lankton, Zoe Leonard, Robert Mapplethorpe, Mark Morrisroe, and Wojnarowicz, among numerous others. From Desire sparked controversy on campus. School fraternities reportedly attempted to prevent students from seeing the show, bullying those who attended and fulfilling the prediction of toxic intolerance that Wojnarowicz conjures in One Day This Kid.

Despite being autobiographical, Wojnarowicz’s collage is inclusive, inviting identification by others marked by homophobia or trauma, or those who feel invisible in a moment of stifling social conservatism. For the From Desire invitation, Wojnarowicz adapted One Day This Kid, changing the pronouns from he to she, and swapping in a young Nan Goldin in place of himself. “This card was an invitation to a queer art show that David helped me curate in 1991, another of our censored shows! It has pride of place in my home,” Goldin says. “I’m honored that David asked me to represent the girl. We were ugly, bucktoothed kids. But look what a beauty he grew into.”

Rhaenyra was usurped and burned alive because she was a woman. If she was more conforming to Westerosi norms she would have still been usurped. If she was a man and much worse in political skill or character, she wouldn't have had that fate. Her behavior/flaws/decisions had little to no effect on her demise. It was misogyny pure and simple that caused the dance. This is a very nice foreshadowing for Dany being the last descendant of that house, the one who brought back the dragons, and the one destined to save the world in the war for the dawn.

Rhaegar Targaryen was not conceived by the author as a Machiavellian pedophile but as a positive role model for Daenerys contrasting with Aerys and Viserys and kind of prophet-character foreshadowing Dany and Jon's arrival and role in the war for the dawn which is what the book series is all about as per 1) the title (which he gave to the book) and 2) the very first page of the book.

Jon will probably give a fuck about his parentage and he will probably want to connect to his Targaryen father and family in some way. Which will probably happen through his relationship with Dany.

Prophecies of Nostradamus, Toho's most controversial disaster film, turns 50 today. Survivors of the Hiroshima atomic bombing protested its scenes of monstrous humans poisoned by radiation; while Toho trimmed those moments partway through its theatrical run, it hasn't been shown in Japan since 1980. A genuinely prophetic scene, in which an earthquake destroys the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, all but guarantees Toho's self-imposed ban will remain in effect indefinitely.

The only way to watch the uncut film today is a shoddy-looking bootleg of a master that Toho prepared in 1986 for a VHS and LaserDisc release but decided not to use (much like Half Human). It's a fascinating look into the concerns of the day—overpopulation, global cooling, and even the psychological hazards of large cities among them. The back half is packed with haunting imagery as the consequences of rampant industrial growth fall upon Jspan one after another. The people despair, riot, kill themselves and each other, all to that haunting, whistling Isao Tomita score. Unfortunately, the film is also overwritten, full of lectures about humanity's excesses from Tetsuro Tamba's Dr. Nishiyama. It didn't need to be 114 minutes long.

As a mid-70s Toho tokusatsu film, Prophecies of Nostradamus naturally has plenty of staff and cast overlap with the Godzilla series. Yoshimitsu Banno of Godzilla vs. Hedorah fame was the associate director and co-wrote the script; Teruyoshi Nakano directed the special effects; and Takashi Shimura, Akihiko Hirata, Hiroshi Koizumi, and Katsuhiko Sasaki all have small roles. It's well worth watching if you're intrigued by the idea of those folks working on a much bleaker sci-fi film.

If you are not even able to do that for whatever reason, then at least in your heart you should know that this is evil, go pray for palestinians, and keep on reminding yourself so that you dont get brainwashed into any western propaganda ever again about how Muslims are just deserving of this horrendous hate crime on such a level.

The Spectre, a vengeful force created by Superman creator Jerry Siegel after he was mugged one night, was one of the last of the 1940s heroes to be revived in the 1960s, mainly because as a ghost of a murdered police officer who rose from the grave for revenge, he was at odds with the hyper-rational, atomic age pulp scifi informed DC Comics created by former scifi fandom members. Even here, Shathan the Eternal is less a traditional devil and more similar to a quantum physics and other dimensional take on demons, reminiscent of John Carpenter's approach in Prince of Darkness which mingled Satanism with particle physics.

Pulp fans will recognize two different references to pulp scifi, as per the course in 60s DC Comics, created by former fandom members:

The title "Beyond the Sinister Barrier" is a reference to the 1930s pulp novel "Sinister Barrier," by Eric Frank Russell. Because it was horror/fantasy as opposed to the typical hard science demanded of his audience, John W. Campbell created the pulp magazine Unknown specifically to publish it, possibly the best fantasy magazine of its decade.

Shathan the Eternal is a reference to the Shaver Mystery (one of the most bizarre incidents in scifi fandom history and a very recent and strange controversy at the time of this publication), which featured a villainous giant devil by that name.

i saw a couple edits on tiktok of mcspirk to soldier poet king and like. i’m not putting anyone on blast but good lord some of those choices made my head hurt. it’s taken me a couple days to synthesize my reasoning for the superior choice (as pictured above), but here goes:

the problem with assigning characters to soldier poet king comes when you take it at face value, flattening the paradigm to angry-sad-tired or violent-artsy-authoritative. if we want to get down to the root of it, the song is based on the threefold office of christ as priest (soldier), prophet (poet), and king. like i’m not christian, but on a textual level it gives us context: the concept that as prophet jesus gave us counsel and words of wisdom, as priest he sacrificed himself to redeem us, and as king he provides for, defends, and forgives us

maybe the most famous priest/prophet/king (& thus soldier/poet/king) allegory in all of literature is frodo, gandalf, and aragorn. frodo bears the burden, though he wishes he did not need to; gandalf offers words of wisdom and mercy; aragorn is a born leader, on the front lines with sword in hand, ready to die with his men if he must

My complete and unhinged Metatron analysis

Hello, I have seen that many people are theorizing about Metatron, so I'm here presenting an analysis of who Metatron is, rather his biblical role and how he may be more connected to the Aziraphale and Crowley than we might believe.

-Also, English is not my first language, so please be patient with me-

ANALYSIS OF METATRON AS A FIGURE WITHIN CHRISTIANITY:

Metatron, has always been a controversial figure in Christianity, full of dualisms.

Let's start with its etymologically. The term Metatron has two completely different translations: one comes from the Greek metradromos meaning "he who pursues with vengeance"; or it is also possible that its origin is from the term meta ton thronon which means "closer to the throne". There are many doubts about his true origin, since it is mentioned in non-canonical versions of the Bible, during Genesis*. However, in the most current and official versions of the Bible, it never appears.

While there is nothing official, the most accepted version is that he is actually the prophet Enoch, Noah's grandfather. Enoch -who used to have his own book of the Bible in earlier versions- was a prophet who had the God-given gift of visiting Heaven through different visions. In his 1st vision, Enoch has the mission to intercede with God on behalf of the fallen angels. In another vision, he sees the Cherubim in Heaven, whom he describes as beings of fire. Later, he is taken by the archangel Michael to the highest heaven. Enoch also travels in his visions or dreams to the tree of knowledge. He is supposed to have lived 365 years and, at the end of his visions, Enoch is chosen by God to become the archangel Metatron, a powerful archangel who is also called the little Yahweh.

There is another explanation for his origin: he is the first being of creation, seated at the left hand of the father, which in tradition is associated with Satan.

The Zohar also describes Metatron as "the king of angels" who reigns over the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

When Enoch was on Earth, he devoted himself to writing a book containing the secrets of wisdom until he was taken to Heaven to become an angel. God allowed Enoch to continue this same ministry in Heaven** .

FUN FACTS:

Metatron was the one who led the Israelites to the Promised Land (Moses).

Metatron is the patron angel of children.

Metatron transmits God's daily orders to the angels Gabriel and Raphael.

Not being an angel from his origin, Metatron is associated with the angels in charge of Death, he supervises them when they help the souls to make their transition from the physical to the spiritual plane.

He is canonically the most powerful archangel in the entire celestial realm, second only to God. His role is similar to Lucifer's original rol, the right hand of God.

The archangel Metatron is in charge of directing the ascension and activation of the human being's light body. Having been human, he knows the path of enlightenment. He represents the potential for transformation and purification of the soul when it sets out to transcend matter to unite with the pure spirit of the Divine. Metatron is in charge of guiding the souls towards the light, towards purity (insert the fact that he asks for coffee with almonds, which in Christianity is related to purification).

METATRON IN THE LORE OF GOOD OMENS

It is worth mentioning that in the original Good Omens book, Metatron is the only angel that appears besides Aziraphale. While other angels are mentioned, Metatron is the only one who appears, firstly when Zira wants to talk to God, and secondly when Beelzebub and Metatron make presence at the Tadfield airbase to try to convince Adam to restart the end of the world (it is not Gabriel who appears in the book).

And, considering that the 3rd season is based on the sequel to the book that never came out, it makes sense that Metatron would have had a bigger role because he was always a present character.

HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH CROWLEY AND ZIRA:

So, from all this information, I would like to point out that Metatron not only used to be human and knows the "true path of purification," but he is also in charge of caring the tree of knowledge.

You know, that tree?

Aziraphale and Crowley represent the two things that oppose his very existence: an angel that is becoming more and more human with each passing day and the Serpent of Temptation that keeps doubting and questioning the edges and the difference between good and evil. These two not only were they not punished, but together they are two extremely powerful entities, perhaps as powerful as he is.

They are a threat… but only together.

Metatron can see in Aziraphale the very opposite of what he represents, someone who needs to return to the path of divinity:

Aziraphale, the supposed guardian of Eden, who started out as an angel, who gradually transformed into someone with more and more human habits, falling into almost all the deadly sins, in love with the Serpent who tempted humans to eat from the forbidden fruit of the tree of knowledge. Someone who loves forbidden books and bibles, with a hedonistic and condescending personality who managed to deceive his brother angels for millennia to protect humanity and his earthly life***.

It would also explain his disdain towards Crowley, why he looked at him with that face: Metatron is the protector of the tree that Crowley managed to corrupt.

To all this we can add that Metatron/Enoch renounced his humanity to become something superior, while Crowley and Aziraphale consider humanity to be something superior worth defending and loving. They see in humans what Enoch could not see behind his judgment of false celestial purity. They are two supernatural entities who managed to love humanity more than he, a human, ever could.

These parallels are not only born out of my obsession, no. The fact that Metatron has separated them has a much more possible and deep significance.

Narratively, this can only mean one thing: Metatron is the villain, the perfect antagonist to Aziracrow.

CLARIFICATIONS *Genesis is where the Adam and Eve story is found, the Garden of Eden, the moment that changes Zira and Crowley forever…. **That "book that contained the secrets of wisdom"… is it the book of life? Is Metatron the only one who has access to it? ***I would like to clarify, that for me the real main character of Good Omens is Aziraphale, that's why I find more comparisons with him, followed by Crowley as co-protagonist, but I will continue this theory another day.

Time for a controversial opinion here, but I think Felassan was wrong.

Now before you come at me, let me elaborate. I'm not saying he was wrong to consider modern Elves people (which itself is debatable considering how little he seems to care for the Dalish, hes arguably worse than Solas in that regard) but that he was wrong to try and put the entire future of the Elven people on a single young woman.

I've already written about this in another post, but I'll reiterate. It doesn't matter how much progress Briala may or may not be capable of in her lifetime. It doesn't matter how much progress she and her followers may be capable of over the course of several lifetimes. Because we have already seen how willing the humans are to take back whatever gains the Elves have fought for through whatever means necessary, and those means will almost always include widespread violence.

Andraste herself promised The Dales to the Elven people. The very prophet upon whose legacy the Chantry and nearly all of human civilization in modern Thedas was built. She fought to give the Elven people a home, it was her promise to them, and her own followers would later break that promise in her name. They finally had a home of their own, but the Chantry just wouldn't stand for it. Humans wouldn't stand for it.

Think of any given indigenous population in our own world and look at how they've been treated over the centuries. How they are still being treated. Who's to say that isn't the same future Briala would bring for the Elves, because at the end of the day she is only one woman against a perpetually surging tide of bigotry and racism. She is one woman, trying her goddamn best, but Thedas is a monstrous place full of monstrous people and ideologies.

Think of Ameridan, and everything he scarified. He saved the people of Orlais at the expense of his own life and the lives of those he most cherished, only to have his heroism forgotten. That Orlais was spared the wrath of a rampaging dragon by an Elf didn't matter in the end. He was forgotten. His home would go on to be destroyed by the very people he'd fought to save.

Think of Shartan, who fought beside Andraste. Like Ameridan, his contributions were nearly lost. The Chantry made sure of it.
