Something my mom mentioned to me when I brought up the proposed gf/df diet change was that for many people the ACTUAL impact to their health from such a change is negative, because before, they were getting all their minor nutrients/vitamins from enriched flours and by cutting gluten, end up vitamin deficient, especially in vitamin B12 among other things. What's more, the things people typically replace dairy with especially in products (soy, margarine, hydrogenated oils, seed oils) are more unhealthy for the average person than dairy. Not to mention that major and sudden diet changes are going to put the body through some amount of stress to adjust in pretty much all cases and you can see why so much dieting flops. It makes people feel horrible for real reasons, and what's more, they know that they feel horrible while they are doing it but are told that this is good for them and they're just supposed to believe that
#but for real i dont think the dr understood that i dont eat grilled cheese to treat myseld#but because cheese and bread and avocado are cheap and cheese has protein#and the whole thing costs me around $1 to make while containing almoat every essential nutrient#i am NOT being an apologist for GMO wheat#but really if we stopped pretending this could all be solved by the consumer choosing to stop buying#evil foods like wheat#and instead realized we are being systematically poisoned#maybe real change would happen

you know what, actually this is worth a brag. I managed to eat for five days on a road trip for (calculated) ~$15 US total.

school trying to kill me on this meal plan hello
#uhhhh tw gonna rant abt disordered eating for the tags#my school doesn’t share calorie or nutrient info bc it ‘allows external factors to influence your eating habits’#which is supposedly like. an attempt to help ppl with eating disorders. but like hi hello im on meds that have a top side effect#of suppressing my appetite. so there is no way for me to ‘not let external factors affect my eating’ it is logically impossible#like i understand it on one level but it also feels like such bullshit. ‘oh you don’t get to know how much protein is in your food’#that information is essential to me eating enough. what the hell#it’s also the condescension of ‘we don’t support diets try intuitive eating instead!!!’ like i understand the goal here but intuitive eating#Cannot and Does Not work for me. because if i ate when i was hungry id be malnourished.#god it’s just like. this is absolutely a case of competing accessibility needs and there has got to be a better way lol#and the other thing is like. when you already have a dietary needs (hello im pescetarian most meat makes me sick) they present themselves as#sooooo great for that. and they aren’t.#me and Andy fighting for our lives over here bc knowing what we can eat doesn’t make it easier to manage that to eat well#the nutritionist/dietician isn’t trained in eating disorders also lol

perhaps the most unexpected benefit of doing my own t shots is that the same skillset translates really well to loading samples into gels
#I remember back in bio lab 101 being like wow I’m weirdly good at loading dna gels for a beginner#and I became the designated gel loader for my group#but yeah I realize that it’s prob bc I self inject#esp now that I load protein gels and really tiny dna wells#bc it is the same idea of going the right depth into a small target with a fine point#keeping it steady#and releasing the fluid at the right pace#without bubbles#and it’s weird that I’d just pick up gel loading so fast without having former experience#bc when it comes to physical coordination and finesse I tend to take a lot of practice to do things#like I AM capable of fine motor skills but I don’t pick new ones up easily#so I was surprised that I was a natural with gels but then I realized I wasn’t#I just had been doing essentially the same thing for a while prior#and also in a situation where if you mess up you get immediate physical consequences of it hurts more#so yeah. Im getting a good grade in loading gels. something that’s normal to want#like compared to other lab techniques my gel loading just started out so much better#esp in regards to doing it well with speed#a lot of other stuff I can do but I can’t do fast without sacrificing accuracy#like it still takes me forever to pipette out a lot of samples#I’ve gotten much better but I’m still comparatively slow#enough so that If Im doing sterile stuff i either have to do small sections at a time or light the burner#while other people are fast enough to open all the tubes and pipette and close them without issue#but boy I can load a protein gel or dna gel with the maximum amount per well#456 words#lab tag#scopophobua tw
