DJ’s: YOU AREN’T PRODUCERS. TAKE THAT WORD OUT OF YOUR SOCIAL BIOS.

Possibly controversial opinion:

TLDR: DJ's: If you're not posting original music, edits, remixes, or anything of the sort. Please don't put "producer" in your SoundCloud bio. It's alot like that guy in High School who would say "Yea man I play guitar, I shred like, all the time" then you hand him a guitar and he just starts goin ham with a poorly executed and under-practiced "Smoke on the Water" or "Enter Sandman" opening riff. On repeat. The entire time he plays. Except with DJ/Producers you can't just hand someone a laptop to "hear them shred on a DAW" so its alot easier to get away with in our EDM world.

FULL RANT: There is a huge difference between "DJ" and "Producer" and there isn't a single thing wrong with just being a "DJ" and not both. People still need and want DJ mixes. There's zero shame in admitting that you don't, or don't know how to, produce music.

It only bugs me (and to be clear, it doesn't even bug me all that much) coz producers like myself and my friends spend countless hours learning and mastering our craft, so that title of "producer" is somewhat earned in my opinion. You can't just download a DAW and say "I'm a producer" if you've never once truly used it.

Producers create. DJ's mix. If your SC page is only mixes, you're a DJ. If your SC page contains original content/music you created yourself, then there's nothing wrong with adding that "producer" bit in your bio. Even if what you're posting is ID's, WIPs, ideas, bootlegs, etc. It doesn't need to be fully finished and mastered music. If you created it, you produced it, you are a producer on some level (beginner/intermediate/TUNE GOD, etc)

If you're a DJ now, and are just now learning to produce, just wait until you start posting/uploading your tunes. THEN add that fabled "producer" title to your socials.

I'm also not alone. Myself and several of my producer friends have expressed at least some frustration towards the DJ's that both call themselves a producer in their socials and even (sometimes) out in public. It can definitely be a "wtf" moment (and this has literally happened to me before) when you are talking to someone, be it an Entertainment/Booking manager or a bigger DJ, telling them about your music and your work. Then another DJ shows up and starts doing the same. But you know that person, and you're aware of the fact that they've never made a tune or have even tried to start learning.

Now there's the possibility that someone who's never worked on tunes in their life could get the credit or booking that you were working so hard for, and they didn't spend a minute doing the same. They just happen to be VERY good at talking to promoters, knowing what they want to hear, and manipulating the truth to fit a narrative that will get them hired or booked. And this has happened to me. They ended up getting a better time slot than me as they grossly exaggerated their SoundCloud stats, and played a song to the promoter by an underground artist claiming that it was their own. I kept my mouth shut. I should have spoken up, but I didn't think his ploy would work and I was new to that particular local scene, I wanted to avoid burning bridges or looking salty/bad. His set ended up being really rough, he'd lied about knowing CDJ gear (he didn't), spent an hour trainwrecking almost every transition, the dance floor was empty by the end of his set, he left the venue in a hurry afterwards and I've never seen him since.

Unfortunately it's not like many local event managers actually care. They just want a good DJ, and they'll often believe you if you tell them you're more than just a DJ. They likely don't have a reason to doubt you, and often don't care enough to check the validity of those claims. Or maybe they don't even know the difference between "DJ" and "Producer"

So in in summary: DJ's. You're not producers. Not unless you make your own music/Unless you are a creator. And just for the record, opening a DAW, playing with Serum for a few minutes, and tossing a few loops into a bus/channel doesn't count. Take the time to learn properly how to write progressions/melodies, program sequences, mix-down your track elements, structure your tune and bonus points for doing it all without presets (learn sound design) and without loops (learn drum & pattern sequencing) If you have that DAW installed, you're already sooo much farther ahead than tons of others in your position. Hit up YouTube for some tutorials and you're on your way!

In Conclusion: Please. Please. PLEASE don't take credit for the kind of work producers spend up to 10-15 hours a track doing (my average time to finish a song entirely). You could cost a talented soul a gig or time slot they've been busting their asses for for years. There really isn't anything wrong with being JUST a DJ. Its a good thing, and still a valid and useful skillset with tons of work/gig opportunities. I played plenty of gigs before I really started calling myself a "producer". You may not get the best timeslots as compared to producers. But be honest with yourself, you could be a fantastic DJ, but who most deserves good timeslots at events? The guys with something to promote. A product to offer. And that product is their creative content/music/whatever. And that guy could be you, you just need to take the time to learn and work hard at honing your craft and skillsets.

Soooo take "producer" out of your bio if all you're posting is mixes and mashups. And if your bio says it, or you identify as a Producer, you better expect me to fuckin test you on it cause I will. Immediately. And if you don’t pull a home made, non-plagiarizing, ORIGINAL piece of creative expression/content out of your ass in that very moment then I swear to Cthulhu I will perform a social/career crucifixion (alot like “social/career suicide” except I do it to you) on you. Your ‘music career’ ends right there on the spot, ESPECIALLY if you play some underground artist and act like its your music and take credit for it. That’s just so far from ok. And I WILL notice. I was an underground non commercial radio DJ for over 2 years. and a lifelong enthusiast all around. Trust me. I will know. So just be honest with yourself, and others. Please, and thank you.

PS - I’m SERIOUS guys. I won't stay silent next time. If I see a DJ try to take credit for another artists work (especially while talking to promoters, and especially taking credit for underground artists work) I will shut that shit down instantly. I will ensure they're instacancelled on the spot and won't play a gig in that area ever again. Plagiarism is NOT COOL. Don't plagiarize. Seriously. You will never have a career in music if you make Plagiarism a part of your “strategy for success” in the music industry. And I will personally work towards ensuring that. (example: I still to this day convert people to the cancellation of DJ Bl3nd. That POS blatantly ripped off so many artists, and is a perfect PERFECT example of a DJ claiming to be a producer. But isn’t. AND he used plagiarism + ghost producers COMBINED to make it seem like he was a producer) I don’t care if you do end up learning to produce after the fact and start making decent tunes.. If you plagiarize and try to use it to advance your career, I will do everything I can to stop you. For ever.

P.P.S. - For those of you DJ's who are learning to produce, don't take any offense to this rant its not directed at you guys, and please PLEASE don't get discouraged. You're likely not even applicable to this rant as you're actually working towards the title. So let me help you in that, below this text I'll be linking a few awesome YouTube producer channels who upload educational music/producer content. As well as some links to great sample/drum kits and more useful tools to help in your learning curve. I am also always available for producing tips and advice, just send me a direct message or comment on this post and I'll give you the best answer from my own experience/abilities/knowledge. COMPOSERILY is also a good one. But a lot less serious. His videos are definitely more parody and satire than anything, but there’s still lots you can learn from watching him. Tons of useful stuff in his videos. He also does both Ableton and FL Studio depending on the song/artist he’s trying to sound like.

For drums and other samples, I highly recommend getting a Splice Account. Its incredible So many options! And you can download individual sounds. You don’t have to download an entire sample pack if you just want one kick drum that it happens to have which is great. A good brokeboi alternative would be Looperman. Its basically a discount/Wal-Mart level “Splice” style service but free.

Some useful sample kits I recommend getting for the sake of drum sequencing/programming:

XFER Pack by Steve Duda and deadmau5 (great for house and 4/4 edm genres)

BIGHEAD Sample Pack by BigHead (available on Splice) [great for trap/rap/hiphop]

literally ANY vengeance or cymatics sample pack will also be a great choice for practically any type of bass music. Face it. Bass music drums are boring and are all almost IDENTICAL from song to song (with the exception of the kick drum) so any Vengeance or Cymatics dubstep sample kit will do you justice here.

VSTs to consider: EDM: Sylenth1 (must have), Razor (underrated), Massive, Serum (must have), U-He Diva, Nexus (overrated but useful), Dblue Glitch, DBlue Tapestop, Engineers Filter (free, amazing Equalizer. deadmau5 approved), CamelCrusher, OTT (overrated but useful), Cthulhu (MIDI sequencer programmed by deadmau5, hella cool but confusing)

Rap Music VSTs to consider: Omnisphere. that’s it. I’m not kidding. A talented producer armed with Omnisphere, and a decent drum sample kit, who is very good at sampling and writing melody/progression can create THOUSANDS of Grammy worthy rap/trap beats without even once reusing an Omnisphere preset. Its like Nexus. Except it truly doesn’t suck, and is worth the absurd price tag.

Eurovision 2010s: 30 - 26

30. Nika Kocharov & Young Georgian Lolitaz - “Midnight Gold” Georgia 2016

When rating Eurovision entrants, it’s important to also take note of the journey, and Nika Kocharov had one of the best ever? Similarly to The Shin, everyone was just about:blank towards “Midnight gold”, not understanding the concept and ranking it last in unison. Like Shin & Mariko, I was mostly intrigued and willing to give it a chance. Unlike the Shin though, I thought “Midnight Gold” was a good song for its genre, just not one I was that entheused by. The revamp, which provided the setting of a mad scientist’s laboratory, was a step in the right direction, providing a hint of entropy, a dash of absurdity, a spark of insanity. And then, at long last, the dénouement:

AND SO WILL SIN

Winning LIFE *and* everyone over with that <3 I don’t think ANYONE could have anticipated that “Midnight gold” would deliver a non-stop absynthe-minded ACID TRIP in Stockholm. 😍 The visuals were so ICONIC they are still setting the special effects bar in the present day. This is Sacha Jean-Baptiste’s best staging. Period. Not “Euphoria”. Not “Alter ego”. Not “Fuego”. "Midnight gold”. BY FAR. Would it be even considered a stretch to go as far as saying that “Midnight Gold” has the best staging of any Eurovision entrant to date? I don’t think it does, but it is definitely a contender.

Who would have thought that THIS song would become one of the more memorable, epic entries of a great year such as 2016? Of course the flawless staging also made me retroactively appreciate “Midnight gold” as a song as well and I regularly give it play time whenever I can. 😍 STAINS OF MUD.

ps: I don’t care about fashion much, but I want his hat.

29. Naviband - “Story of my life” Belarus 2017

HEY HEY! HAYAYAYA HO!

What superlatives can I still use for describe the pure, unshattering LIGHT that is “Historija majho zyccia”? It leaks mirth from every pore, infecting everyone around it with the irresistable urge to tap their feet along to the HEY HEY HA JA JA HO’s!

At the center of this wonderful hovercraftian masterpiece lie Artiom and Ksenia, two of the most adorable humans ever to exist, who are also a couple irl and it shows. The two have chemistry and charisma in spades, especially Ksenia who is the living embodiment of the “^__^” emoji. I am ALWAYS happy when I listen to this song and I am thrilled we got to hear it twice.

Eurosnob contempt for happiness is a well-documented feature in this ranking, but it reached its nadir with Naviband: You see, in addition to being ‘A Happy Song’ (a term used with contempt, imagine that O_O), Naviband are also folk singers from Belarus, who -shocker- sing in Belarusian. However, don’t be harsh on the Eurosnobs because the area of the dopamine receptors in the brain of a Naviband hater are always attached to a person who isn’t living happily ever after. Naviband is life at its best. EMBRACE IT. Like this Lithuanian frump did:

28. Måns Zelmerlöw - “Heroes” Sweden 2015

lol I JUST spoke about “Midnight gold” having one of the best, but not the best staging. Well, that’s because “Heroes” is, in my opinion, the most visually impressive Eurovision entry of all times. 🤗 I don’t think it’s even a stretch to call it that? “Heroes” as a song is widely regarded as pretty whatever, winning due to its act. However, while I don’t necessarily disagree this is why Måns won, I feel this take very much undersells Måns. Using it at an excuse to dismiss his goodness is ridiculous.

First of all; “Heroes” IS a really, really good song. Infectuous, upbeat, irresistably positive with highly quotable lyrics (”now go sing it like a hummingbird the greatest anthem ever heard” 😍) and an earnest anti-bullying message (<3). It may not be *as* original as some of the entries ranked around it on this list, but it definitely handles its own, with and without an act.

Another defining factor in making “Heroes” a great entry is Måns himself. Måns Zelmerlöw is arguably the most attractive human to ever set a foot on a Eurovision stage. The man is irresistable even on a platonic level. He puts every other charismatic performer to shame and does it effortlessly.

However, even with these two trump cards, the staging is indeed the best part of “Heroes”. It bears repeating that I think this is the best Eurovision act to date. Impressive visual effects, flawless choreography and impeccable camerawork elevate “Heroes” to a much higher level. It tells it story with more clarity and efficacity than any other entry I can think of.

Ultimately, Måns staging is a testament of his goodness, and an acceptable reason for winning Eurovision. Because of “Heroes”, many countries have upped their staging game, resulting in more visually impressive entries (specifically the Sabotage Baptiste ones in 2016, and Sergey I guess), which is a positive development. Live music isn’t so much about which song you perform, but about how you perform it, and “Heroes” is the best example of that.

27. ZiBBZ - “Stones” Switzerland 2018

WILD JOKAH ON A GOLD THRONE

Here we are again, our annual appointment with everyone’s favourite sibling alliance. 😍 “Stones” is powerful kick-ass diamond of indie-rock and a serious contender for my favourite Swiss entry of all time.

The song is a masterclass in mental health awareness and self-empowerment, dismantling bullying and depression with perfectly timed percussion and AHUMs, truth-bombing lyrics and an insanely charismatic lead who sounds like Joss Stone on five packs a day. 😍 It’s catchier than ebola, more addictive than sugar and soars higher than a kite.

In addition to all of that jazz, “Stones” is also responsible for some of the most iconic visuals in 2018:

God the shot of Coco with the flare still sends shivers down my spine. WHAT A CRUSADER OF THE DOWNTRODDEN. 😍 Whenever I’m feeling down, this is the song that lifts me back up again.

Really, the only thing not good about ZiBBZ was the camerawork and that wasn’t their fault. FY Hans Pancake. 🙄 If ever there were a robbed NQ who deserves a Genovaesque return, it’s the Zibblings. BRING THEM BACK!!!

26. Paula Seling & Ovi - “Playing with fire” Romania 2010

Speaking of highly addictive songs, holy cow Ovi I need rehab for that beat alone because I CANNOT get it out of my head.

Anyway, who else would be the #1 for Romania if not for Paula Seling and Ovi? “Miracle” was a beautiful example of tacky taste, but “Playing with fire”, man, :takes a sip of gin:, now that is the real stuff.

I’ll start, I guess, where I’ve begun my write-up which is the composition: “Playing with fire” has one of the best underlying beats in this decade, which gives it infinite replayability. Layered on top of that is some delightfully aggressive piano (😍), on top of THAT some amazingly playful lyrics (”BOY BOY BOY If we’re mean, i would start a fight tonight” songs about playfighting <3) and on top of THAT, Paula Seling. Paula is the STAR of this performance, stealing the show every time she’s shown with deliciously flirtatious facial expressions

and some vocal masturbation in the guise of a dolphin impersonation.

She and Ovi and ignite the place with both insane pyrotechnics and spontaneous chemistry. So fun, SO GOOD, so dynamic especially for an act where the main singers sit down in front of a double-headed plexiglass piano (😍). Duncan Laurence DEAD in a motherfucking DITCH.

And with this update we have eliminated FIVE countries. Check their reviews below:

GEORGIA

Georgia is such a bizarre Eurovision country, often churning out absolutely BONKERS entries that leave Europe stunned in silence. <3 It may not be reflected in their vital statistics but I always look forward for what they have on offer because even in the rare case of them being boring, they are always interesting.

BELARUS

Belarus was one of the worst countries in the 00s, but in the 2010s they’ve evolved into a bargain bin Moldova, which makes them solidly good. It’s really astounding that a country SO GOOD at being entertaining gets dismissed so easily because of their flag (and dictatorship (and gay rights)). They’re mostly good and 100% worthy of our time, tyvm!!

SWEDEN

The worst part of Sweden’s success streak is that it made them conceited and lazy. They no longer need to be innovative, creative or entertaining in order to get a top five position and worse, they are fully aware of it. This resulted in a marked drop in quality and if they don’t curb their hubris quickly, I predict it will soon come back to bite them. (ie: another NQ)

SWITZERLAND

B A S I C. Zibbz and Luca did a lot of the heavy lifting here, which caused Switz to mathematically outrank Sweden, and while that’s hilarious it also feels absurd and wrong. Don’t be fooled by all that green though. Switzerland are basic bitches and have no idea what to do in order to be cool.

ROMANIA

Romania are one of the better hit-or-miss countries in Eurovision, imo even if the chart doesn’t fully reflect it. The problem I have with them is that their entries don’t have a long shelf life. Like, the Cezars and Ilincae of this world grow stale very quickly because they’re exhausting and shallow. Having said that, this is by far preferable over being consistently boring (UK) or violently oscillating between great and demonic entries (Germany, Demark).

Strange Adventures

Chapter One - First Meetings

Summary: A certain Sorcerer Supreme seeks contact with the God of Mischief to maybe gain an useful ally against other worldly mystical dangers. But things never go as planned and the both of them are ending up with quite some animated conversations. Loki being the mischief-maker he is tries to trick Strange on every corner he can, Strange on the other hand just wants to survive the conversations.

Warnings: The Loki in this story is a little evil.

A/N: This fanfic is based on the role-play between @loki-the-predator and @dr-stephen-v-strange and thus it is written as such. The POV constantly shifts between Strange and Loki and although I took some time to take out spelling-mistakes, some are still in there. I also want to mention that only Loki’s side is mine and Strange’s side belongs to dr-stephen-v-strange, therefore I also have no control whatsoever on Strange’s behaviour or actions. I just collected it all. I have no clue if you like this but if you do then I’ll post the next chapter next Sunday.

Strange

So we did some research and apparently you can duplicate or something, so we don’t really know whom to contact or who is trustworthy (Thor is not acting like a reliable source). But we are kinda getting desperate. Mordo has been killing off magic users and with the Sorcerer Supreme gone, we could use someone with a bit more experience than the novices who keep creating portals to random places and then walk through them into walls or falling down hundreds of feet.

Ps: Sorry for the incident during your last visit, by the way. I am not really sorry, but Wong told me I could’ve just locked you away, so… not gonna happen again. Probably.

Loki

“Well, well. Look who suddenly comes knocking at my door without some proper groveling.” Loki’s jaw was set tight and a fire gleamed in his eyes as he eyed you with disdain.

“Pray tell me, why would I indulge you, sorcerer?” Loki smirked. “And don’t play the brother-card, I don’t do well with that one,” he hissed between his teeth, his eyes gleaming dangerously.

Strange

Well, we got the time stone and some other things that have proven to be rather “efficient” against you in the past and as I have heard Asgard is kinda “burned down” and Jötunheimr doesn’t seem like a place you would be very welcome right now, assuming it’s still habitable, Earth seems to be your best choice. But if you want to stay there you will have to cooperate and protecting your “home” seems like a thing that might have benefits for you, too.

Also I hope you remember: I don’t make empty threats.

Loki

Loki’s eyes widened and his nostrils flared at the blatant words. He tried to keep a smooth face while he could feel the rage simmer under his skin, the hot coil screaming to be released and lash out, but he refrained himself from it. With a clenched jaw he spoke, “fine!”

He grunted in the back of his throat and was silent for a moment before he plastered a smile on his face which looked more nasty than inviting. “Tell me, sorcerer, who are you and what do you exactly need from me?”

Strange

Stephen raised his eyebrows. “That was easier than expected”, he thought.

“First of all, I need you to come with me. Once we are in the Sanctum we can talk about what steps need to be taken. I’d say it’s because of privacy, but truth is I don’t want you running around here. Your face is basically a big red sign for all vigilantes, former SHIELD agents and pretty much anyone you have met so far in this universe and I’d rather not have to deal with an intergalactical manhunt just because you angered some strange alien.”

He opens a portal and turns back, fully aware of the dramatic pose he is striking. “Also, Stephen Strange.”

Loki

Loki cackled a laugh, the mock in it quite apparent and a grin spread across his face. If this low-level sorcerer was thinking Loki was going to make it easy on him, he would be in for a wild horse-ride.

Loki eyed the portal with disdain. “As you might imagine I’m not overly fond of your portal.” Loki tapped his index finger on his lips. “And SHIELD agents aren’t a problem for me, neither should they be for you, sorcerer,” Loki spat the last word.

A wild look spread across his face, his eyes gleaming with the unrelenting anger that still crawled under his skin. “On top of that, I don’t mind a little hunt!”

Strange

Stephen rolled his eyes. “And Wong calls me a Diva.”

He took a step forward, the Cloak moved around his back recklessly. They had been on the streets for too long. People were already staring, taking pictures. Someone else would be there soon.

“If there are SHIELD agents, the Avengers will follow and if they do, they will bring Banner.” He smirked. “Did you even know that he is back on Earth? As far as I am informed he still doesn’t like you and neither does the ‘other guy’.”

He gestured to the portal. “So my advice would be, you find a way to overcome your distaste for my portals, right now. Because otherwise I will leave you here and search for an other magic user who is less of a drama queen and then return to lock you up one day, “your majesty”.”

Loki

“Sorcerer, your information is outdated,” Loki smirked on his turn. “I do not fear Banner nor his little anger-management issue. Do you even know how he got back to earth?” Loki winked.

Loki straightened his back and his eyes narrowed as they fixed themselves on Strange’s. “And yet you cried out to me for help.”

Loki shrugged. “Suit yourself.” With a whisk of green magic he disappeared.

The low-level sorcerer had apparently been stuck with his head in a portal for too long, otherwise he would have know these things. Loki completely ignored the little jabs he had made on his behalf, making a mental note to shove them down his throat later if the moment would suit for it. He wondered if Strange was aware of the little mistakes he had made in the past around the Trickster and had given him more information that he probably would have wanted. One wouldn’t fall down through portals for half an hour without learning something, especially not a God.

“Are you coming or what?” Loki asked from the other side of the portal where he had manifested while eyeing the interior of the place with utter disgust, prying curios at some objects and snorting derisive over some of them.

Strange

“Maybe.” Truth was he wanted to lock the ice queen up and to let the SHIELD psychiatrists have their fun. God, he could just put him in a cell with his brother for a week or all alone. Someone with such a narcissistic streak wouldn’t be able to last a day without an audience.

But if Dormammu had taught him one thing it was that his pride was not worth the lives of many. So he shook his head, telling the cloak to keep calm for now, and went through his own portal into the actual room and not into the magical trap he had opened before.

“Would you like something to drink?”, he asked.

Loki

“I’m going to decline your offer on the beverage,” Loki said to him without deeming him worth a glance as he had his head tilted and studying the backs of the many books that covered the racks.

He could feel the sorcerer’s eyes burn in his back and he had to muster every nerve not to lash out at him or that ridiculous colored piece of clothing which reminded him very vividly of his oaf of a brother. Every fiber in his body screamed he needed to be careful with this Stephen-guy but Loki was sure he could best him if needed - especially since he wouldn’t be trapped in an endless portal-fall again. Though Loki had some great fun with some insight knowledge Strange had just given him.

Loki abruptly turned to address Strange, “and if you would be so kind to indulge me with the reason you brought me here so I can quickly move on and continue my quest to conquer your meager Midgard, you would please me greatly,” Loki taunted with a mischievous smile.

Strange

The pretend Asgardian was up to something and the cloak seemed to know it, too. Stephen sat down to keep it from moving. At the same time he called a chair from the sanctum and said:

“Please take a seat. And don’t touch anything. Even I don’t know what’s inside all this books, but there are spells on them strong enough to seriously harm an immortal, no matter if Asgardian or Jotunn.”

The way the green eyes of the other wandered across the interior, assessingly was something that made his fingers twitch. It was better if he got this behind him as fast as possible.

“Okay, let’s start with what you know about the Nine Realms and the Dark Elves.”

Loki

Loki raised his eyebrow and gnashed his teeth at the blatant command from the mortal. Without even looking he held up his hand and a book from one of the racks flew to his hand and he licked his finger to casually flip through the book whilst speaking. “Half of these books are filled with half-truths and broken spells, some of them are nothing more than laughable and only a rare one between this-” Loki looked around before continuing, “-vast collection are of some meager interest. And I’m quite sure that if a mortal witch such as yourself can handle such an item, it won’t oppose a threat for a God.” He snapped the book shut with a smile and it flew back to the rack.

Loki hoped Strange hadn’t noticed the quick illusion he had casted over the book and that the real thing was in one of his dimensional pockets now. The content wasn’t of great value but he very much would love to use the thick tome to smack it on the back of Strange’s head, especially when he irked him so much by mentioning Loki’s Jotun heritage.

Loki’s eye twitched at the mention of the Dark Elves, making old wounds burn and fuel his rage further. The twitchy drape on which the sorcerer was sitting didn’t make it any better either.

“Just who do you think you are, Mortal, that you imply I know naught about these realms and what it contains.” Loki summoned a dagger and played with it while continuing. “Do I need to remind you that I am a God and that my knowledge exceeds yours with hundredth of years?”

Loki scrutinized the wizard with utter hatred, the knife in his hand still twitching and begging to be lodged in the man’s throat, but Loki kept a lid on it…. For now!

Strange

His fingers formed into a fist at the blatant insult of what had given him purpose. But the thing about surgeons is they are used to stress. He reminded himself that he was the best at what he did and relaxed his hand again, as much as was possible.

There was an air of magic surrounding the other man and he knew that he had done something, other than calling the book to himself, but what it was he was not sure, yet. Stephen made a mental note to cast a disillusion spell later, but at the moment it was better to let the other think he had the upper hand. But he couldn’t stop himself from provoking him a bit more.

“I have wondered, since I read about Jotunn and their reputation as Frost Giants, why exactly it is that you are so small?”

He wanted to see the other twitch just as he had made the cloak twitch underneath him, and indeed, the arrogant “boy”’s hand moved. He might have been old, but he had the hidden impulsiveness of a child.

“But that’s beside the point”, he continued, trying to avoid a fight for now, “Do I need to remind you, that I am here because I want to protect Earth, which is more or less your home as well and that there are lots of reasons you should support me in my efforts?”

He sighed. “We are trying to form a group of magic users, something to balance the Avengers or rather the loss of the Supreme Sorcerer when it comes to tackling mystical threats.”

It was time to play it up a bit. How he hated that part.

“Now, while you are clearly not a group player, your knowledge, as you have said yourself, exceeds ours by far. We need to know what happened to the Dark Elves. How can we know if they are all gone?”

Loki

Loki noticed the wizard’s clenched fist and briefly licked his smiling lips, his eyes glinting with knowing his remark had hit home. But the next comment the other man made about Loki’s heritage irked the Trickster so much that he flicked his wrist and the knife he had been holding flew past the wizard, cutting a strand of his hair. “You sure you want to go there, glorified veterinarian?” Before the dagger hit a wall it flashed back into Loki’s hand, a menacing scowl on his face. “My next dagger will pierce a nice hole through that piece of cloth you call a cape,” he spat.

Loki took in a few shuddering breaths as he once again tried to control his rage. “And do I need to remind you that you asked for my assistance! On top of that, I never said that ‘Earth’ is my home.” Loki looked down and fidgeted with his free hand, his index finger scratching at his thumb as the word ‘home’ evoked more memories than he cared for.

Loki whisked the dagger away and started to pace, his own green cape fluttering dramatically behind him with each turn he made. “So you are asking me to join your little group of-” he turned to the other man “-what you want to call them? Ugh, you Midgardians and your ‘hero’ names,” he rolled his eyes whilst speaking and continued his pace hoping the movement of his body would deprive the hot anger in his veins.

Loki sighed. “Malekith is dead, their forces are reduced to a bare minimum and scattered, their realm is almost entirely dead and the last time I checked Svartalfheim was empty,” he lied, his tone exasperated, and purposely not telling about the pretty red gem that he had had send off to another realm.

Loki stopped his pacing and narrowed his eyes as he seized the wizard up. It hadn’t gone unnoticed to Loki that Strange had indulged him with some kind words and he figured that he might return the act of kindness even though - of course - the act would work in Loki’s favor as well. “I might know of a few… creatures who might be willing to help with your ‘noble’ quest.”

Strange

Okay. That was it. He got up and moved his hands, letting a golden string of power appear. It was enough of a distraction for him to open the mirror dimension around them before the other one could do any more damage. If the alien was labile enough to throw knives after a few petty insults, there was a risk of human casualties. Wong and the others would know where he was and if he did not leave the other dimension soon enough, they would probably intervene.

“They don’t have a name. And I don’t want you to join at all. I‘d just like some informational assistance. For example you could tell me when you last checked, because as far as I know there was an infinity stone roaming about.”

The other was lying, but that had been expected. Though Stephen had hoped he wouldn’t. “I don’t think we could trust a single creature you name.“

The cloak, curled around his ankles, eager to float and to attack, since the trickster’s threat, stilled for a moment. “Diplomacy”, a voice that sounded a lot like Christine, whispered in his thoughts.

“But don’t hesitate to tell me. Maybe you can convince me that I am wrong.” Stephen smiled, as charmingly and innocently as he could.

He deserved an A+ for effort.

Loki

Apparently his little knife trick had put the man back on his heels enough to seek a form of protection and Loki gnashed his teeth. There weren’t many subjects that irked him so quick, but Strange had just chosen the wrong subject and ruffled Loki’s feathers to much. Loki could sense the magic the wizard had concocted but he couldn’t quite grasp at what it was or how it worked and his little back-up trick suddenly didn’t work anymore. He wasn’t concerned but it bothered him on some level.

The hot angry coil didn’t unwound any further as Strange admitted he didn’t want Loki to join their little team - something he was glad about because the Trickster hated it when people got in front of his feet and they usually ended up on the tip of his dagger when they did.

“If you don’t trust any creature I name, then when would you even trust what information I provide you regardless it’s content?” Loki rolled his eyes while his mind ticked of some possibilities and the fact that the other man had mention the infinity stone. He truly wondered why the man had called upon him if he already knew this. Surely he couldn’t be hoping the God of Mischief would spill all his cards? Would he really be that stupid?

Loki watched the sorcerer’s cape tug at the man, it’s color still a thorn in his eye, and he asked with a voice smooth as silk, “how would you feel about it if your drape was green?”

Strange

Stephen knew he had said something wrong, but he wasn’t sure what it was, yet. Maybe implying that the Jotunn was unfit for an other group was a sore point, or maybe he could sense the spell of the mirror dimension.

“Green? Not really my colour”, he said, trying not to sound too exasperated. The cloak seemed to agree with the way it stayed still again. “I would trust any information, that I could gain proof of myself and I trust enough in your wish to preserve this planet or at least realm that you will not lie to me when it comes down to saving either or the universe. With everything else, you are right, I can’t trust you.”

He had a small step towards the other man, his hands hold high in a reassuring motion. He had made the same gesture a hundred times before when he talked to an aggressive, drunk or panicked patient.

“Let’s make a deal: I show you something and you tell me what I want to know.”

Loki

Loki eyed him warily as he approached but he stayed his ground. The puny gesture of the other man’s hands in the air meant nothing to the God for he knew very well that magic could be summoned to one's fingertips without as much of a thought. Loki narrowed his eyes as he looked at the hands of the wizard, noticing a weird piece of metal and it briefly made him reconsider his previous statement.

“Well, at least we’re on the same page regarding ‘trust’,” he bit at the sorcerer. “And in that light I’m not overly fond of something you want to ‘show’ me.”

On this very moment Loki hated what weird trick the man had played with the magic that shimmered around him, making the Trickster blind to something he relied heavily upon in his dealings with this wizard, and he quickly tried to cover up his uneasiness. “Ah, of course green is not good enough. How about gold? It would look great on full-tilt Diva such as yourself and match that shiny object on your hand perfectly,” he grinned while nodding to the Sling-ring.

Strange

Stephen realized too late that he had shown him his Sling Ring. It would be naive to hope that the other would not recognise it, but he doubted that he could use it, or at least not to escape this special kind of mirror dimension that existed only within the Sanctum. If the alien overpowered him, they would both be forced to stay here.

“We should not enter an ego contest. We both know you would win it, oh God who wanted to rule all humanity.” He smirked. “And attachment to the material is detachment from the spiritual.”

He made an step forward, the diplomatic gestures replaced by a self-assured smile. “Believe me when I say that you want to see what I want to show you. It’s something no-one else in this Galaxy and beyond could give you, not even your brother Thor or the king of Jötunheimr.”

Loki

“Good thing you know your place, Mortal,” Loki grinned, completely ignoring the jest and quite reveling in the words that were actually meant to sting him.

Loki licked his lips and paced around the room again. He didn’t like this man but he appreciated the effort the other put in this to try to stay one step in front of the Trickster and attempting to jest him - a game not many were able to play with him on this level, especially not the average mortal that threw itself at his feet daily. The God found it very humorous and if he was honest with himself, he liked it.

Loki fixed Strange with a brief glare and started talking, pacing back and forth in the confined space which made him feel like a caged animal. “So let me get this straight; you want to make a deal with me where I tell you what I know, even possibly direct you to some… creatures who can help you, while you offer me something in return I might want to have, or see, without having any hint at its contents, assuming that what you offer is I want. Something that is beyond anything that my oaf of a brother or the king of Jotunheim can gift me - again assuming I hold any value in that - and you ask me to believe you on your words while we just established mere seconds ago that I don’t trust you.” Loki raised his eyebrows in a very teacher-like manner followed by a scrutinizing glare filled with disdain. Then he held up his finger before the Wizard could interrupt him. “On top of which I can still sense your magic to which you desperately cling to keep you safe and with which you try to coax me like some animal. Tell me, oh great sorcerer-” he said in a mocking tone, “-how in your mind was this going to work?”

Strange

He had him. Maybe not in the way that Wong would have preferred, but an alliance had been a ridiculous idea to begin with. Still, the ‘ice queen’ had lost a bit of his composure, giving away ar least some level of interest, if not even that he had been impressed.

“You misunderstand”, Stephen said smiling, knowing now that the mirror dimension was really able to hold the other. Even if he had been sure of himself, it was good to have definitive proof.

“I make no secret of what I could show you. I just wanted to make sure I have your attention first.”

He moved his hands and the Eye of Agamotto started to glow.

“I think you know what this is. And before you ask, there is no way for you to take it from me, not from my living body and if you kill me, then this”, he pointed at the green light, “will be moved by magic to the next worthy Sorcerer in line and that’s probably not you.”

He was bluffing a bit, but Thor had hardly even known of the Infinity Stone’s existence. Surely his ‘brother’, no matter how old he said he was, could not know all the details of its power.

“Tell me, would you like to see a part of your future, maybe even change your own fate?”

Loki

Loki bared his teeth and scowled. He really didn’t like that the Wizard just ignored his little speech and it set the other a point back straight away. It was also ridiculous that this second grade sorcerer thought he didn’t have Loki’s attention in the first place because the Trickster would not even have stepped into the Sanctum if he hadn’t been curious at all.

When Strange revealed the Time Stone Loki had to fight the urge to pounce the man and kill him to pry the gem from his cold dead fingers. Oh, how he would love to kill the other to put him in his place and then throw him in a time-warp to relive his death over and over again - for at least a good solid half hour! But probably longer.

“I didn’t know you held me in such high regards that you presume I would ask,“ Loki said to gritted teeth, his eyes flicking between the gem to the man’s face.

The only thing that kept the God in check for now was the fact that he almost felt the Tesseract burning in his dimensional back-pocket, and there had been a reason he had send the Ether away from Asgard when he ruled as King.

“You want to put that statement about not being worthy to the test?” Loki grinned his hollow threat, for he actually had no interest in fighting the man. Yet.

Loki started to advance on Strange, summoning his battle-armour in which he hid a little of his Seidr to pry around at the magic the Wizard so heavily seemed to depend on for his defense. Just a little spell to give Loki some insight and he grinned as he found a work-around to his little trick that the man had deprived earlier.

“I find your offer quite lacking, Sorcerer, and you assume I know nothing about time.” He kept his steps small while still advancing. “Because you and I both know that showing me a future is not something that is written in stone, that it changes by the choices one makes - the butterfly-effect - and therefore your offer is quite hollow.” Loki smirks and stops two paces before the man. “I hoped you had to offer something better than that but you disappoint me!”

Strange

Stephen took a deep breath as the magic shimmered around the other, forming an unnaturally clean, shining gold. The mirror dimension was shaking and gliding from his fingers like ice turned water. For a moment he felt like he was back, facing Dormammu or an actual God and he had to remind himself that he had died before. There were few deaths the alien could put him through, that he was not acquainted with.

“I would not call it high regards”, he said, trying to ignore how the other’s eyes flicked to the Eye of Agamotto. As long as he had something the other wanted, as long as the other was curious, Stephen would not have to die.

“But if you really want to test it, feel free to attempt spilling blood on the floor. We both know it will not do you any favors.” He summoned his magic and clapped his hands together.

The time stone stopped became invisible, disappearing into a cosmic hole, where even a Titan would not be able to find it. “Try to see this as a disappointment”, he thought to himself.

“However, I do not offer to show you ‘a’ future, but ‘the’ future. The future, that you want to see. And by doing so I will show you how to get there.”

Loki

Loki smirked. “Oh, how I’d love for us to go round for a bit,” he snickered. “To test your mettle so to speak, but I don’t think this is a good time to do so.”

Loki had felt the magic around the other shake and a wicked grin spread across his lips. Oh, how the God of Mischief was itching for a fight but he wasn’t one to plunge himself head-on into it with this Wizard. Not until he had some information about the powers of the man and Loki thought he was doing a very good job at gaining more information by the minute. Just prying, keeping the other on his toes, making him dance. But the hot angry coil never deprived and especially not as the Time Stone flitted away of to the Norns know where.

“How can you be so sure it is ‘the’ future?” Loki asked while he started to circle the Sorcerer. He turned sharply on the man, opening his hands in a gesture when he spoke, “and how are you so sure I want to see it?”

But as Loki had to admit to himself, he started to get more curious by the minute.

Strange

Stephen felt no reassurance by the words of the ‘God of Lies’. Even if he believed that he was not willing to fight right now, he could not help, but feel his eyes like a shadow on him, wrapping him in ice cold darkness. There was something entirely mad in the alien’s grin and it vaguely reminded him of a psychiatric patient with prosopagnosia who had managed to steal a syringe from a nurse. But this was worse than being threatened with a syringe.

“Maybe I know, I am good with brains after all.” Stephen smirked. He was keeping his cards close to his chest.

“But if you want to make sure, you could just tell me what future it is that you want to achieve”, he winked,”If you want to, we could even say doctor-patient confidentiality applies.”

Loki

Loki momentarily stopped his circling to give the man a confused look and resumed his pacing again. He wasn’t familiar with a doctor-patient confidentiality, they didn’t have that type of thing on Asgard, and if they did have, he knew naught about it. He had had his ability to self-heal his entire life and it had only grown stronger with time, what would he need a healer for? He pushed the weird thing from his mind before he would dwell too long on it.

The Trickster stopped circling the other man until he was in front of him, tilting his head slightly and his teeth gnashing as he briefly seemed to mill on something. The God of Mischief had never been one to play on the safe side and he loved to play on the edge of a knife, though he must admit, this knife was very sharp, but in the end his curiosity always got the better of him.

“Then show me Wizard,” he spoke ice-cold, the little crazed glint still in his eyes. “Show me your so called ‘the’ future.”

Cyberbullying and Language

Hello, I hope you are all well. I am going to try and keep this appropriately summarized without it being too lengthy. I sincerely apologize if this turns out to be a long wall of text. In case if you need to know, I am a 24 year old female.

To start with, an incident occurred in September on Twitter, my friend had tweeted an unpopular opinion on a matter that is related to KPOP (for context, what he said was how the KPOP industry are not aware about cultural appropriation and that they’re not going to stop anytime soon because they think they are being welcoming to their international fans by adopting their elements and thinking it’s appreciation when it’s appropriation). Someone who I will call A, replied to my friend insulting him. It was upsetting to see that my friend was being spoken that way but what really triggered me is how A was consistently talking down on him in another language and using abusive terms and phrases which he obviously won’t understand, even when he was being polite and civil.

Because I am familiar with the language that A was using, I jumped in and I told A that it is understandable where their anger is coming from, but there is no reason for them to speak in an abusive manner and that too, in another language because 1) aside from it being cowardly, I think it’s ableist and 2) I think it is micro-aggressively racist. I had mentioned those two points in my tweet and A’s friend responded me in all capital letters and in mockery tone that I was wrong for telling A not to speak in her native language and for using the word “racist”. Everyone from A’s side collectively replied calling me shameless, a dumbass, fake woke, and what really got to me is how they still spoke in that very same language and used vulgar phrases like “she can go lick her own ass” thinking I wouldn’t understand. I never got to explain myself because of the number of people writing damaging things all at once. This affected me badly to the point I had physical symptoms like my head wouldn’t stop hurting, I couldn’t eat or sleep properly and because of the stress, I didn’t get my period like I was supposed to.

A even screenshotted my tweets and said, “when you have a humiliation kink” which was really nauseating to see because I have social anxiety and humiliation is one of my biggest fears and it happened. The other triggering thing about it is that I am Half Black Half Indian and I had faced a lot of bullying and discrimination in school where my classmates would unknowingly switch to another language whenever I was around and indirectly say a lot of things like they would call me “Kaali” (means Black in Hindi but with a negative connotation in this situational context) and it instilled a lot of anxiety. That is why I had called it microaggresively racist because I didn’t know how else to call it. I blame myself for getting involved in that community because there is a lot of aggression and I am just too sensitive for these things, but I also couldn’t bring myself to stand back and see someone behave demeaningly to a friend.

I do have to add that my other friend actually spoke to A who explained their perspective and said they felt invalidated and hurt that I accused them for being racist and ableist in some way when they have been a victim to it racism which is why their friends targeted me all at once and got abusive because they were furious. They also said they spoke in their native language out of habit. A was also told that I was affected from this just as much and they explained to my friend saying I shouldn’t engage in KPOP stan Twitter in the first place because it’s not meant for sensitive people. I later reached out and apologized to them and they also apologized back saying they were sorry for hurting me too. I thought this would give me some relief and it does in a minimal way but my mind would just not stop replaying those harmful words and it always brings me to tears and triggers a lot of other bad memories.

I am dealing with two issues right now. One — It’s almost the end of November now and I feel ridiculous that this hasn’t left my mind. It traumatized me and I can’t even bring myself to enjoy the simplest things or be happy because my mind keeps taking me back to that incident. Two — I don’t feel that it was wrong of me to call A’s action subtly racist and ableist. Even though I haven’t fully comprehended it yet, I don’t deny invalidating A’s feelings because they feel strongly about cultural appropriation and I was somewhere wrong with my approach. I just find it awful that someone would suddenly switch to another language you are not fluent in and use that tactic to degrade you. This is not to say that people shouldn’t be conversing in their mother tongue. I find it concerning when you’re conversing WITH someone NEGATIVELY in a different language or indirectly speak about you in your presence and there’s nothing you can do in your defense. I just believe I am not entirely irrational about this because I always felt invalidated.

This turned out much longer and I know I have exceeded the limit, so I am really sorry that you have to read all this but thank you for taking the time to do so. Please take your time in responding to this. I am grateful a platform like this exists because I genuinely didn’t know where to go with this.

A sounds like a really mean spirited and cruel person -- if they’re not a friend then block all communication with them, if they are a friend then end the friendship and then block all communication with them anyway. they doesn’t sound like the kind of person you need in your life at all, not worth the energy.

even though “social media is what you make it” and you can control your social media experience in terms of what kinds of people you follow and what content you see? I think twitter is one of the worst social media platforms, it’s almost like people become even more emboldened and brazen by the lack of anonymity in expressing negative attitudes and toxic behaviours.

I think it’s understandable that you still feel traumatised by what happened on twitter, a whole lot of people ganged up on you for no reason. even though I don’t know the specific kpop band you’re talking about? kpop does have a long history of racism and cultural insensitivity, I feel like you were probably right in the things you said to A regarding micro-aggressions and ableism. however!!! you gotta pick your battles, know when it’s the right choice to fight and when it’s a better choice to walk away and fight another day. if someone is already using racist / ableist language? chances are that they’re not going to listen when they’re being told that the language they’re using is racist / ableist, especially if it’s being said publicly.

honestly? A (and associated friends) sound like pretty negative and aggressive people, and definitely not worth wasting a second more of energy on. know that your own feelings about this are valid, and that you didn’t do much wrong. all you can do is learn from this for the future -- avoid engaging in a conversation (or argument..) with people who already display racist and bullying attitudes. it was so kind of you to jump in and defend your friend, but next time maybe just tell your friend to block any future online attacks like this and avoid engaging. take care xxx

Friday Heathen Game (Part 2)

Note: I coudn’t stop. I’ve literally slept at 4 am to keep writing and been doing it since I’ve woke. Continuation to the prompt game. And I just... have no idea, really. It just went this way and I have no idea if it makes sense or not, and I also couldn’t bring myself to finish the smutty part... Oh god, just... Sorry. hahahhaha.

PS. This isn’t my first language. Sorry for any mistakes.

They walked strangely trough the campus, Ivar refusing to let go of her hand all the way since they left the small exit path of the race track. (Y/N) had put a coat over her gym clothes, but her red eyes were clear to anyone who cared to look more closely. She believed that her red nose and swollen face were not discreet, and the thought that someone could see her that way while walking hand in hand with Ivar made her pull the collar of her coat up a little higher.

- Are you cold? - His question surprised her, though it was not stranger. Ivar was an observer and he paid attention to the small details, one of the things she appreciated in him. He noticed the small things, like a new outfit, haircut or even a new wrinkle of worry on her forehead. It was hard not to like someone who noticed you, was one of her first impressions. They walked in silence all the way, and she paid no attention to where they were going, just letting him take her. When they got to his car, he opened the door and waited for her to be seated inside the car before heading for the driver's door. Something told her that he was still afraid she would run away at some point, ignore him again as she had been doing in the last weeks and then disappear, or something. The thought drew a small smile from her, for to imagine that he was worried that she would run from him was like one of those things that you find funny because it’s absurd, all the while wanting it to be true. He turned on the heater when he started the car, and they were silent for a while as the car purred and heated. Feeling suddenly sweaty and sticky, (Y/N) opened the coat she wore. The small noise of the zipper broke the concentration of the man at her side to the point where Ivar looked at her, his eyes so full of emotions she could not distinguish that for a second she had the urge to apologize - without knowing why. She almost felt herself uttering the words, her mouth parted with a small sigh, until he broke eye contact and started the march, using a little more force than usual, accelerating to the point where the wheels screamed as he began to drive. (Y/N) preferred to remain quiet, first because what the hell was she going to say? And second because, honestly, she never had a full idea of what Ivar was thinking, and this moment was no different. His expression had returned to that blank it had as he watched her run and the only thing that contained any hint of his feelings was his eyes, and at that moment she honestly did not feel ready to face them.

Then she sank into the passenger seat, feeling crushed by his presence in the small space, completely still until they got wherever they went.

She recognized his street easily, so many times she had been there. Ivar lived relatively far from the Campus, in one of those upper-middle-class neighborhoods where flats were perfectly furnished and markets too expensive. He was one of the sons of a great big shot, with a big company with the family surname, but he had got a college athlete's scholarship, like her, so his father gave him all the benefits he could. Which included the classic car they were now and the apartment they were going to. The building was old, but the apartment made up for it with space and the industrial decor - but chic - that he enjoyed; Practicality, that was his thing.

She was sure that the fact that the place ended up being discreet also interested him, so when he typed the code into the smart lock and opened the black door for her to enter the apartment, she did it quickly and almost on her tiptoes, not wanting to make any noise. It seemed to annoy him, because he slammed the door shut, as if to contest her.

- Afraid someone will recognize you? - Ivar teased acidly. She was startled by the noise and surprised with the question, responding only with a sigh and a twist of eyes because the idea was ridiculous; Even so, she stood still, looking anywhere but him or the room that was in the space where a Living room should exist. The decor of the place always caught her - large windows straight ahead, fully lit the place, american style kitchen just to the left of the door, small and simple, all in metal and dark stone, while there were large benches in front of the counter, which also served as a table. On the right side the wall, it was full with black and white pictures with black frames and she knew, now, that the photos were taken by him. Further ahead was a large bed leaning against the wall to the left, with the TV and a piece that should have been filled with the latest gadgets, games and dvds on the wall in front of it. Above the bed, a small bookcase filled with books and more pictures. On the right side of the bed, between it and the part where the large windows ended, a staircase to the second floor of the duplex apartment where, finally, it was the living room. All the decor was in dark, masculine tones, contrasting with the white walls. Concentrating on the furniture seemed much safer than thinking about Ivar right behind her, the noise of his movements indicating that he was taking off his coat and boots.

Nervously, (Y/N) played with the zipper of her coat, again superconscious that she was completely sticky with the sweat that had dried on her body, her dirty sneakers on the perfectly clean floor of Ivar's apartment. She sat on the high benches of the kitchen counter and began to bend over to untie her shoelaces when Ivar appeared right next to her, his blue eyes and frighteningly calmer expression, surprising her when his hands went to the back of her knee, lifting her leg so he would pull her sneakers along with the socks one after another, throwing them in a corner near the door, without looking away. (Y/N) blushed, her heart racing so fast that she felt it beating in her throat as she breathed in small hisses for fear of making any sudden movement. Suddenly, that silence, Ivar's hands still on the back of her right knee and his blue eyes almost piercing her were too much for her to keep still.

- I-I-I need to take a shower. - She stammered as she jumped off the bench and almost ran toward the bathroom. She knew her way around the house, entering the discreet white door just ahead of the stairs and next to the TV, locking herself in the bathroom. The towels were there, inside a small cabin, and she was disappointed that Ivar preferred showers to bathtubs because she would love to kill time if she could stay a few hours just crinkling in hot water. The bath was still a good distraction, and she just dived headfirst into the shower, thanking for the delicious hot water relaxing her muscles - she had only realized now how much it all hurt, stress and exhaustion mixed. She did not know how long she had been there, but by the situation on her fingers, it had been too much. She turned off the water in a bad mood and dried herself on the towel before stealing Ivar's enormous robe from behind the door.

She took a deep breath before opening the door and did it slowly, avoiding noises. The scene she found surprised her - Ivar was sitting in an now perfectly neat bed, his head in his hands, looking worried. A quick glance around the house told her that he had cleaned everything while she was in the bathroom, not even a glass out of place, the bed looking like an advertisement. She almost wondered if he called the cleaning lady there, until she took the first step into the room and even the small thump her feet made on the floor sounded horribly loud in that silence. Ivar looked at her immediately, a sore expression on his face that made her want to hug him, until he looked into her eyes and everything in her burned with the urgency she saw there. Suddenly she was very aware of the fact that she was naked, what the fuck did she thought for taking a shower before talking?

He cleared his throat as he broke eye contact, rising from the bed and leaving the black set in the center in her camp of view.

- You left it here... last time.

(Y/N) thanked for her forgetfulness and nodded in thanks as he walked away from the bed, to near the kitchen to give her some privacy as she dressed. She did the best she could from the space so that she would not leave an inch of exposed skin when she dressed her bra, and could only describe as a struggle the movements she did to achieve it. When finished, she coughed a few times before she could speak.

- Um, you can come now. - Ivar was on his back and turned slowly, striding back into the room. (Y/N) got away from the bed as a precaution, standing near the ladder while Ivar smiled hurt, as he watched her walk away. (Y/N) did not allow herself to feel guilty.

- Ivar… - She began uncertainly. But he interrupted her in a strong tone and a movement of hands indicating silence.

- I want to speak.

- I think I'd better talk first. - He did not look at all happy that she kept talking, but she needed. Honestly, she did not feel strong enough to say all she needed if Ivar were the first to speak. He had the power to fold her without a word, imagine speaking?

- No. I'll talk. I need to talk and you need to hear me. - His tone was angry, demanding that she obey him and she hated her body for answering that man.

- Ivar... - She refused to shut up, her careful tone disobeying as her body warmed in the memory of an punishment.

- Dammit, woman. Can you hear me quiet, at least once? - It was almost an exasperated cry, in agony, as his blue eyes pierced her; His tone made her imagine him putting her on his knees and giving her a good spanking so that she learned it and her whole skin began to tingle at the thought. When she nodded, quiet, he let out a bored laugh, shaking his head in denial. - Damn, you really are impossible.

She opened her mouth to challenge him right there, because, how come she was impossible? But he interrupted her before anything else. - Just shut it and let me speak. - She knew that tone, and the long months they had together made her close her mouth at once, cursing herself for having been stupid enough to have thought that to face that conversation half-naked and protected by only a robe was a good idea. An order from him in that tone, and all of her body was warm under all that thick cotton, her hands nervously playing with the cord that held the parts closed.

But the silence lingered as he had his eyebrows furrowed and a big scowl, and she was about to speak again as the hard look he threw at her stopped her immediately.

- You're impossible, woman, you know that? Do you have any idea how irritating you are? - He shot, his gaze glaring at her. - Always talking back at me, always with an answer on the tip of your tongue, as if you know everything, walking as if you are perfectly happy alone, without needing anyone. Do you have any idea how frustrating it is to deal with someone like that, Lady know-it-all, miss "excuse me... fuck you"?

She almost fell back. What... The fuck? She remembered that, remembered saying that in one of several discussions they had. Her jaw dropped slightly as he smiled irritably.

- Yeah, you told me that, didn’t you? And then you disappeared, ignoring me in college, in training, in class, fuck, you really went out of your way to avoid me. - Well... yes, she'd avoided him, but because she could not take it anymore. Those push and pull, the hidden glances as he smiled at all the other girls, she was so pissed off at all that, with that unnecessary secrecy about them, that she simply did not want to see him.

- And now you can’t? You “don’t want it anymore”? - Yes, he made the quotation marks, getting up from the bed and walking slowly to her as he spoke. - "I don’t even know what the fuck we have and you're ready to get it over with? Shit, we have not even made it public yet and you're already breaking up with me? - She was so confused that he had to be seeing it in her face. Still, Ivar looked angry, hell-bent on lecturing her. - And “you like me"? You just "like" me? What the fuck? What the fuck is liking me? Am I some shoe you saw in a store and got interested? Fuck! - He looked so pissed that his face was slightly red. Her mind worked too fast trying to understand the words he spoke. Being reminded of the reason of all that trouble made her fairly embarrassed and sure enough she blushed. (Y/N) had said that she liked him, really said, with all the words, the last time they had seen each other. Ivar had replied with an angry look and a deep frown, which left her mortified to the point of simply getting her things and leaving, telling him to forget what she had said. He called for her, but she had not come back. He was now a few steps away from her and the pressure of his presence became overwhelming, so that she shrank into the huge robe. For a second, she almost swore that Ivar's eyes burned as she did so, but he was back in a burst of fury. - And what I want? I thought it was clear? Or do you think I'm walking around bringing anyone to my house? - He realized when she looked suspiciously back at him because he stopped in the middle of what he was saying. - Goddamit, you think so. Hell! - His frustration returned, made him turn on his heels to take a deep breath as he walked through the room, his back to her.

She refused to accept that wave of hope that invaded her, that strange happiness growing in her chest and slowly sewing up all the pieces of her heart that she once thought he had torn. Could it be...? She shook her head, focusing on the now, concentrating on solving what was happening here first, before she threw herself into his arms and couldn’t come back.

-Ivar... - she began cautiously, her voice almost a whisper. She took an uncertain step toward him, one hand forward as if she were still reflecting if it calmed him down. He stopped in his path, turning slowly to look at her, his expression torn between frustration and anger, though the latter did not look toward her, which gave her the confidence to slowly close her fingers below his elbow, more In a fondness for anything else. - What are you trying to say?

- I “like” you. - His face contorted into a snarl as he spoke, as if disdaining it while making his tone different on the word. She was in shock until he continued. - But you're so oblivious, woman, I think even after I speak it, you're still going to doubt it. I thought you were smart enough to read between the lines. Apparently, I was wrong. - And... there he was messing things up. (Y/N) fumed, standing up, her face warm in the face of the insult. Her hand pinched him and then she pointed her finger at him.

- So now you like me? Maybe you forgot that while you kept flirting with all the college girls and ignoring me in the hallways?

- Oh, please. Are you talking about those idiots who live throwing themselves at me and my brothers because of our name? - He frowned, then turned his expression in anger. - And it was you who kept what we have in secret, or should I go to college smiling at you? - His tone was accusatory, angry, and she almost thought there was a hint of comedy in it, until the accusation angered her.

- How come? I wanted a secret? When?

- What do you mean, when? Stolen kisses in empty rooms? Making out at the back of the library and disguising it when you heard footsteps approaching? Averting your eyes? What the fuck is this if not you keeping it a secret?

- I thought it was what you wanted! - She was absolutely surprised, and the confusion was on her face. - You never hinted what we had? Always taking me to dates in expensive and discreet places? Never talking directly to me in college if it wasn’t to start a discussion!

- I wanted to impress you! - He growled in exasperation, his hands knotting his hair to the point that he simply took off the hair tie that held them in a bun and messed them with his hands, a common attitude when he was frustrated. - And, to get your attention.

The silence continued after the shock, both breathing heavily, facing each other as if they were in the middle of a fight. Ivar let out a long frustrated sigh as he ran his hand through his hair to straighten them, pulling them back. Then he gave her an angry look.

- Why is it all an argument with you? - He let out a deep grimace as he turned his back on her and went to the bed to sit down. (Y/N) wanted to talk back, but she also wanted to laugh and whirl around the room, feeling flooded with a hot, bubbly feeling. She had been unable to stop the waves of hope that washed away her worries and irritations from her, completely astonished at the great confusion they had created. But then, Ivar was a complicated person and she did not take shit from anybody and there they were in a vicious cycle that could have been easily resolved with a conversation. Her hands awkwardly struggled with the knot that held the big robe, in which, at this very moment she felt overwhelmed, her whole body seething and crying out for contact, pleading for him, heavy cotton making her body burning hot. She took it off and tossed it to the floor, satisfied with the cold air in the room. He was sitting on the bed and it was clear he had not looked at her yet.

- Ivar! - she called him, the tone angry. He looked at her, prepared to argue back, when his eyes widened at the sight he had. - Just shut the fuck up. - She scolded as she threw herself into his arms, their mouths clashing together in a desperate kiss. (Y/N) let out a moan between the kiss, his tongue invading her mouth as she struggled to remove that gray sweatshirt and showed her irritation with him having a shirt underneath with a bite on his bottom lip, which made him moan and smile between the kiss, quickly undoing the second shirt as she concentrated on his pants. Her hands trembled and her body burned in a confusion of feelings so great that she needed him to help her take off his pants and soon they were falling on the bed, Ivar beneath her as she straddle him, their mouths never breaking contact. She had not even noticed when he had undid the clasp of her bra, but it was already slipping down her arms, his eyes burning through her with scrutiny, a loud possessive growl coming out of him when he saw that she still had small purple marks from when they had last stayed together. His hands stroked the hickeys slightly before he lifted his neck to kiss them, and then make them more vivid. And then he thought that was a good moment to talk, because of course Ivar would think that.

- I can’t believe you thought I would leave these delicious maks without wanting anything serious with you, woman. – (Y/N) moaned in frustration, lifting her body to sit above him and holding his face down by his jaw, forcing his mouth to be closed for a moment, his eyes deliciously hot, and she already imagined the various ways he could punish her for this.

- We really need to work on keeping your mouth shut. - She teased, licking his lips before pulling him into a deep kiss, Ivar lifting his body so that he was sitting on the bed. Then he swung her by surprise, a little scream escaping (Y/N)’s lips, as he held both her hands above her head and looked into her eyes, a malicious smile on his lips that were now swollen by her kisses.

- I can think of some ways. - He teased, lowering his body over hers deliciously, grinding his hips on hers. She smiled, satisfied, and then pretended to settle her body better on the bed.

Good morning!

Yesterday I felt much better then I have in a while. I think a huge factor was cutting out drinking again. Not permanently. It is just not assisting in this climb out of depression I so desperately need to complete.

I rounded up all my glass containers, put them in my basket, and how truly satisfying it was to take the extra time shopping from the bulk bins and not purchasing packaged goods. A lesson that has been surfacing for me recently is I don't have to be on the extreme end of things. That I can implement all the good things I want to do and see in myself at a slow and steady pace. I have never learned about the concept of middle - moderation. This is a large factor in my instability. Quite honestly I have been so back and forth about how I want to live my life its becoming a place of despair for me, a place of insecurity. I want to be confident in how I eat, consume, exercise, and socialize. For example, I was vegan for seven and a half months, went cold turkey after never having a dietary restriction in my life. Within those seven months I learned ALOT about my relationship with food and our soceities relationship with food. I learned a lot of health, self discipline, dedication, and care. I remember the day I ate chicken again. I got a $5 dollar rotisserie chicken from Earth Fare, sat in my bed with my dog, and ate it with my hands. This was two Aprils ago. I’ve spent the last year and a half going back and forth from completely restricted to gorging on nothing but meat and dairy. This would send my physical and mental state into a complete shock and result into illness. I’ve had NO control. This pattern seeped into almost every part of my life -- of course I’ve been depressed!

I remember when I first quit drinking. I decided I wanted to focus on building my self discipline. What I haven't realized is that I had just built restrictions, which inevitably set myself up to fall. Life is such a beautiful dance of balance and awareness.

On a side note, I’m going back and forth about my writing style. Should I be practicing my best work? Or should I just be venting, throwing my thoughts on to this page. I suppose my intention was the latter, though I’m worrying that it should be the first. Really, all that matters is that I’m taking this time. I can have days when my subject is more in focus where I can slow down and truly articulate. This page is not for the public, it is my journal. We don't write our journals for the eyes of another, we write them to express ourselves authentically. ^-^

Alright. In conclusion, I must practice self discipline through the acquaintance of Middle.

Ps: I sent in my resume to Erika’s job this morning. Right before I had such a strange dream that I was going to a group interview there. In a musty basement room we sat at tables of about six. I was late. We had to wear old baggy grey gym shorts and tee-shirts. When I sat down to take the “test” it was a series of deciphering the scribble messages, like the ones websites give to you when trying to see if you are “a robot”. I quickly became frustrated and fell even more behind. On our break two boys broke into a fight, I remember feeling uncomfortable in my surroundings and its lack of professionalism. Once I took my seat back inside someone of authority began to ridicule me, belittling me so intensely. I aggressively and intelligently stood up for myself, lost my opportunity for the job, and left the building. That is when I woke up and sent in my resume. I wonder what my subconscious was contemplating. Do I feel unworthy or under qualified for the job even though Erika has mentioned I am not? Or am I just becoming nervous because the time is counting down and it still hasn't fully hit me that I’m leaving Asheville and concluding last three years of my life. RAHH we shall see. I want to keep writing but I’ll stop for now. Sweet day to you, my friend.

At fault driver's car insurance won't pay for my damages!?

Hey guys and gals, My wife was in a car accident on 10/8 driving our truck with liability only insurance (IE: not full coverage because the truck is only worth ~$3000 and it's paid for). She was turning right and had slowed down to turn (with her turn signal on) when a speeding truck slammed into the van behind her, ramming the van in to our truck. The police filed a report, in which the driver of the speeding truck (an 18 year old kid, that had just left his house less than 1/4 mile away) was determined to be at fault. It is worth note that this happened in front of two different auto body shops, and within sight of the house the at fault driver had just left. Their insurance company, state farm, finally contacted us on 11/8 after not returning our phone calls for nearly two weeks saying they had determined he was in fact at fault and would send an adjuster the following Monday. He came, inspected the truck, determined it was repairable, then said we would hear from their office later that day. When they called they told us the damage was more than 75% of the vehicles worth so it was considered total and they would send the required paperwork to my email address to begin payment. Within 3 hours, the claim agent we had talked to the previous Friday said an owner of one of the auto shops had came forward (all of a sudden, no mention of a witness before) and that he had a notarized statement saying the van struck our vehicle before the truck struck the van. The insurance company now will not pay us for the damages. We tried to call the witness and get a copy of his report because State Farm would not give us the copy. Then we called the other auto body shop and both the owner and one of his employees both seen the accident and say that the truck was at fault, and the owner overheard the driver say specifically that it was his fault. When we bring this to the agents attention, she claims this is not evidence because they know the at fault driver. We found out that the first witness also knows the driver, but can't prove it. Ours is a small town, you don't have neighbors that you don't know or speak to. It seems we are at an impasse, and I have been without a truck for nearly 6 weeks. What should I do in this instance? Get an attorney? Our insurance agency is adamant about not intervening since we did not have full coverage insurance. It may be worth noting that my wife has had back and neck pain since the accident and went to the hospital the day of the accident, the family doctor twice since, and has an appointment with a chiropractor next week (all of which our insurance has paid for.)""

Husband & wife both have group medical insurance with their employers. His insurance is a bucket plan through Cigna called an HSA. I am entering my 4th year of driving (22 yr old) with absolutely no claims and even with comparing market my car insurance goes up every year. New comparison has come out at over 2500 quid! Can someone explain the difference between Health Insurance and any other Insurance?

I don't understand why people act like health insurance is so radically differently than other insurance. Is it? Insurance is a form of risk management to hedge against loss. Auto, Life, Homeowners, Unemployment and Health are among the types of insurance you can buy. I'm generally not required to buy any of those insurances. If I have the title to my home, I'm not required to have homeowners insurance. If I don't drive a car, I'm not required to carry auto insurance. Why should I be forced to buy health insurance? If I want to take that or any gamble by not buying insurance, isn't that my choice? I will admit that by not purchasing health insurance, I could be putting a burden on others if I was admitted to the ER and couldn't pay, that burden of payment would fall on others. HOWEVER, that burden would be there whether I was forced to carry insurance or not. If I don't make enough money to buy this mandatory insurance, then the gov't will give me tax credits to purchase insurance. Who's paying for those tax credits? All of the tax payers. So either we pay the providers/insurance companies via higher premiums to cover loss, or we pay the gov't via taxes. Forcing (perhaps unconstitutionally) citizens to purchase health insurance won't solve anything, it will just move where the cost is incurred. For example, for full coverage with the minimum amounts and highest deductibles, my insurance on a 2010 Mazda 3 would be about $1800-$2300 for 6 months. A coworker of mine is 21 years old, not married, no tickets, and has had his license since 18 like me, and he has a 2007 Mazda 6 and he only pays about $170 a month, which translates to about ~$1050 for 6 months.
