1. Hello, I have lost a fic! It was an arranged-marriage au where WWX marries into the Lan sect. During the wedding all the Lans refuse to look towards WWX which hurts him deeply. Later on LWJ explains it is Lan tradition for no one to look upon the bride until the husband has removed her veil. This was just one of many cultural differences between the Lan and Jiang that the fic explored. Overall I think the fic was kind of somber and angsty? Probably had a happy ending though. Any ideas?

It's from Lan Wangji's perspective and takes place during the early sunshot campaign before Wei Wuxian's return. Wen outposts are attacked by some unknown entity and Lan Wangji goes to investigate. The culprit is a human shaped being covered in resentful energy. After a few confrontations Lan Wangji discovers that the being is an unconscious Wei Wuxian and finds a way to free him from the resentful energy. @bluekittenfire

4. Hi! I’m sorry to bother you, but maybe you can help me? I’m looking for a fic where Wei Wuxian is fighting at what I remember to be Qiongqi Path. I think Jiang Cheng makes a smart remark (something like “Are you just gonna play your flute or you going to help us?!”) and Wei Wuxian stops playing his dizi long enough to give JC the finger… only for them to realise what it means that he’s stopped playing and a flute can still be heard. Not long after LWJ pulls Su She out of the foliage with the other flute.

Vaguely I remember it being a fix it fic where less people die than in canon.

5. hi!! i’m been looking for a fic for days. i read it forever ago but it’s during the cloud recess study arc and in it lan xichen realizes how awful the jiangs are treating wwx and tries to subtly convince him to leave tywng and stay in gusu bc he knows how much lwj likes him and he sees how talented wwx is and knows he would be a good asset for any sect to have. a specific scene i remember is that lxc would pretend to accidentally bump into wwx to talk to him. and they would go on walks and lwj saw it and got jealous. i think lxc was lowkey manipulative but in a way where he was doing it to make wwx care enough about himself to leave the jiangs. it was not jiang clan friendly at all. i kno this is so vague sorry about that. but it’s driving me crazy how i can’t find it when i know ive read it more then once. thanks for any help u can give

I remember Wei Wuxian maybe living in the jingshi, possibly teaching classes, but definitely going into Caiyi with Lan Wangji and during a festival Wangji wins a game and the prize is this ugly turtle statue that Wei Wuxian adores. They go on to prank Lan Qiren with the turtle statue. I loved this scene but I can’t remember what fic it came from, please help!

It sounds like the last extra chapter. / Not saying there isn't a fic involving it, but #14 sounds a lot like the Yunmeng extra in book five, as well. Ring toss, ugly turtle statue, and Wei Wuxian considering pranking Lan Qiren included. The only difference is the location. Your searcher may have mistaken it for fic, especially if they read translations online. / #14 is one of the extra chapters from the actual novel (Extra 7 in the official English translation)

Yes, my, *ahem, abilities only seem to have an effect on men. It's just the way the magic works, but it's all good since I find it more fun that way. (No worries, I didn't find this rude at all!)

These sort of interactions can only be described as random, at best. Sometimes I will see someone out in public who I think will be fun to mess with, or who deserves a little shake up. And sometimes people will come to me, asking to be changed or asking for a little fun for their friend... or revenge for an enemy.

Body types are also random. I will admit that about 90% (or more) of the men who are affected tend to have an athletic or bodybuilder physique. However, I have had experiences with skinnier guys, larger men, shorter men, etc. I have no preference and I will help/change anyone who comes to me... but I will admit that I specialize in growth surrounding the glutes and pectorals.

18 and up, period. There's no leeway with this, at all. I do have a softer spot for older guys, though, so I love to have daddies who are in their late forties, early fifties come to me for experimentation (or to add to the daddy population).

I've been contacted a few times by men who have been changed. It's usually from the ones who've asked me to change them themselves, and they are always grateful. Although, sometimes a guy who's been changed thanks to the whims of another has not contacted me yet, probably because they tend to get distracted by their new bodies to keep looking.

How do I do it? I need a picture/video to start with. From there, I can alter it or create a scenario around it, that will in tune come to fruition. I suppose this could classify me as a sort of magical creature with properties similar to Venomoth...

I chose Valen, who could've seen this coming

1. As a daywalker, Valen is unable to turn other people into vampires. He lacks the venom that turns humans, but he still has both sets of fangs in place of his canines and first incisors. He also still produces ten times the normal amount of opiorphin in his saliva to reduce the pain of a bite on a victim or donor.

2. Valen has many of the typical vampiric traits, such as enhanced speed, stamina, and strength. One other aspect that's been heightened is his intuition - he has very strong instincts. It's one of the 'genetic gifts' given to him by being born with vampiric blood. In my worldbuilding for my characters, vampires pass on gifts to their birthed children and their charges (those they’ve turned). He was given sharpened intuition from his father, Callen.

3. Valen’s canon story arc is one that focuses on redemption through love. Valen is someone who grew up in violence, was taught how to be the most violent and intimidating motherfucker in a room. He chooses aggression before anything else and has no qualms about killing. I’ve always kind of joked that violence is his love language, but it’s true; if a person he loves is harmed or bothered by another, his first offer is ‘Want me to hurt them?’. Violence is second nature to him. And yet, through all of that, he retains the ability to love so deeply that he allows it to corrupt him. The way he grew up, his time in the military, his father, all of that aided in him wanting so hard to be loved that he’s willing to do anything to be loved back. He’d kill to be loved the way he loves. He didn’t see anything wrong with letting devotion corrupt him because it meant he’d get scraps of love back. But throughout his storyline, he finds people who love him without requiring he breaks his back for them. He learns that he’s worth so much more than what he can do for someone. The love that Valen feels so deeply is finally returned to him and he heals. He retains his violent nature, because it’s so deeply embedded in him due to both the vampirism and how he was raised, but years down the road he learns that that is not all he is.

4. Valen, contrary to how he normally is while he’s working or out in public, has very gentle hobbies (ignore the illegal underground cage fighting he does, that’s more of a coping mechanism and method for stress relief). He likes growing things. He just loves having plants and caring for them, always gets a little bit of joy when he sees new growth on one of his plants. He has so many in his apartment everywhere. Another one of his more gentle hobbies is creating art. He really like structural architecture, sketching out the straight lines and dimensions, blocking in the details like arched windows and elaborately designed doors. It’s calming to his brain to create something technical. Had he not been raised in a criminal syndicate and taught how to kill since he was 15 years old, he would have been an architect.

5. When it comes to his relationship with other preternatural beings, Valen doesn’t subscribe to the usual ideology of different races being enemies. In my worldbuilding, Night City and the surrounding area is one of the only places where werewolves, vampires, and other entities have to co-exist because there’s so many of them there. There’s less warfare between the different groups. Valen himself has many connections with shifters; his cousins from his mother’s side are werewolves, some of his best friends are shifters, and he has actively pushed back against the idea that werewolves are enemies to his own species. He met Fawn through one of these instances - they were both in a preternatural-only dive bar in Vista and some other shifters began heckling some of the vampires present. Fawn stepped in first, calling them children and trying to break them up, but when it turned violent, Valen also stepped in. Fawn and Valen ended up fighting side by side and they both can appreciate a good fighter, so when they stumbled out of there, they’d made a new friend.

The Lore For My Doors AU

Yippee, I finally made a storyline and my lore isn't scattered everywhere 😭

Disclaimer: When I say this is long, I mean LONG. So be prepared :)

Storyline Events

These events are essential for the lore. These events are categorized and some events happen during at one certain period.

There are 5 key periods in the story line: 1) The Beginning 2) The Construction 3) The Hotel Hassle 4) The Hex 5) The Present ================================================ 1) The Beginning: The Beginning was the period when LSPLASH gave life and raised GL and CL. LSPLASH created the Hotel to give life to more creations, but changed his plans once he created GL and CL. LSPLASH intended for GL and CL to unleash their creativity and give life to the entities. In this period, GL and CL are children.

================================================ 2) The Construction: This period takes place after a few thousand years, where GL and CL grow up and become more mature. By this time, GL and CL have the skills to create the entities and so they did. One by one, each entity was created. Eventually, the Hotel was filled of various creatures. The Hotel was eventually opened to the public, where humans can stay at the hotel and have the entities assist them. It was a happy and joyous time for the Lights and the entities.

================================================ 3) The Hotel Hassle: This is where things start to take a turn for the worse. While most humans loved the hotel, of course, there were some humans who DESPISED the hotel. They hated the idea of the humans and entities being together. They started to spread misinformation about how the Hotel was a dangerous place full of monsters who wished death upon the humans. This made many people enraged and eventually start a riot in the hotel. They brought all kinds of weapons, with the intent of killing the entities. The majority of the entities were attacked such as Figure, who got their blindness from humans slashing their eyes, and Seek, who lost his other eye from a human burning half of his face. After their attack, the hotel was abandoned and no one would visit that places for many years to come.

================================================ 4) The Hex This period takes place a few days after Hotel Hassle. LSPLASH find out about the incident with the humans. However, LSPLASH didn't try to comfort their creations, in fact, LSPLASH was enraged, especially at GL and CL. LSPLASH was angry because GL and CL failed to protect the entities and the hotel. Out of fury, LSPLASH went on a frenzy and started casting curses on everyone. This period is where the entities gained most of their features such as A-120's permanent smile and Figure's demon like features. GL and CL had never seen LSPLASH so angry, so furious. GL begged for LSPLASH to stop, but he was so blinded by rage that there was no way he could go back. Out of fear, CL and the A's ran away to the Rooms. The Rooms was originally a bunker for the entities, but it was too late to save them so they were the only ones who entered. CL locked the door from the outside and all of them swore to stay inside. However, GL was not aware of this and eventually declared CL and the A's missing. From that day on, the entities refused to talk to GL due to his connection with LSPLASH. GL was devastated and he was broken.

================================================ 5) The Present This period takes place around 2022-2023. During this period, the relationship between the entities and GL has been amended, and they are no longer enemies. One day, GL finds the space behind the closet and decides to investigate. GL phases through the skull door and finds himself in the Rooms. He enters each door one by one, and suddenly, he hears some voices. With every door he entered, the voices became closer until he met with CL and the A's. GL notices that CL's star crown was broken, and so he fixed it using his magic. GL then takes them back to the hotel, where all of the entities meet CL and the A's once more. CL and the A's still stay in the Rooms, but they visit the Hotel more often. The entities still despise the humans from what they've done, which is why they hunt players down and kill them.

These events aren't as important as storyline events. These events happen between and/or during multiple periods of the story line. These events are just a manifestation of my hcs.

Sub Event #1: Lurking In The Dark During Hotel Hassle, Screech was running and desperately trying to find a place to hide from the humans. Suddenly, Screech found himself in a dark room. He couldn't see anything but not a second could be wasted, so he hid in a corner of the dark room. The humans passed by him and he successfully avoided them. During the Hex, LSPLASH managed to curse Screech and gave him his tentacles. Screech was mortified and soon became insecure about his tentacles. This is where Screech's personality began to change as he started acting cocky to cover up his insecurities. However, it made his insecurities grew as everyone avoided being around Screech entirely. His insecurities overwhelmed him. But then, he remembered about the dark room he hid in during Hotel Hassle. His insecurities about his tentacles have long since disappeared, but he still has insecurities about how everyone sees him. ================================================ Sub Event #2: The Star When the Hex started, CL was desperately trying to find a way to get away from LSPLASH and then, he remembered about the bunker (The Rooms) he made. He rushed to the space behind the closet but accidentally bumped his head on the closet. This caused the star on his star crown to gain a massive crack. The star on the star crown of Lights contain their soul, which made this a very big problem. After CL locked the door from the outside, the A's and CL tried to figure out how to fix his star crown but failed to find a way. Despite this, CL wanted to keep on building the bunker and trying to create 1,000 rooms so that in case the humans found it, they wouldn't be able to catch CL or the A's. However, since CL's star crown broke, he wasn't able to replenish his energy and it started taking a toll on him. CL became extremely exhausted. CL was also losing his bright glow and was unable to use any kind of magic. Eventually, it got so bad to the point were CL was losing memory and was unable to remember the names of the A's. In fact, the names of the A's aren't their original names, those were just names CL assigned them to easily remember them. Their original names were Firestorm (A-60), Hinder (A-90), and Scribbles (A-120). Eventually, GL found him and fixed his star crown. GL and the A's also helped CL to recover from his massive loss of magic. CL eventually became well but was still unable to recall the A's names. No one knew how to retrieve CL's memory, so A's stuck with the names CL assigned them.

In brief format. Hits the major events, skips so much of the daily tragedies.

50s — post World War II relations and recovery

60s — the Cold War of intelligence and counterintelligence, fear campaigns; the arms race keeps everyone afraid of each other on a global scale

70s [diverging point from actual history]— the conflict goes hot, the world goes ugly; in America, only two large settlements survive the bombings, near LA in the west, and a fortress in the south- Better Living establishments which were protected from the damage in advance, seeing as they built a large number of the weapons used (by both sides)

1980-1984 — radiation is scrubbed from choice locations in the east, and Empire is founded, establishing a port for BL/ind's relations with other surviving entities

1985-1989 — following a health crisis in the south, the Analog Rebellion begins in Fort F.I.S.K. and spreads as people break free of the fort, skirting through what habitable land remains, and group together; the idea catches, and as the numbers of resistance climb, both Battery and FISK are cornered into retaliating

1990-1994 — rebellion continues, escalating into mass casualties on both sides- casualties no one can afford, in a world already post global war

1995-1999 — tenuous ceasefire is declared; it's not peace, but it's not war. the cities build walls, closing themselves in, and those that left the settlements are abandoned to the wilds to eke out whatever life they can without aid from Better Living

2000-2004 — the lands surrounding FISK backslide, and become entirely uninhabitable or navigable without specialized equipment; Empire City receives its first "transfer" from beyond the cities

2005-2009 —the zones around Battery begin to experience more regular patrols and tensions between city folk and desert folk fray

2010-2011 — Better Living develops ReEducation; patrols and raids into the desert become more violent in nature, and zone folk are disappearing (not killed, just gone)

2012 — a series of fire storms -"The Fires of 2012"- start west of the city and sweep the zones all the way to the Fort; both sides experience minimal casualties, but lots of structural and food supply damages

2013 — widespread unrest in the zones and a significant amount of infighting; recovery efforts in the city and a significant amount of infighting

2014 — The Collapse -a yet unexplained mass casualty event- takes place in zone five to the northeast of Battery City, effectively reducing the population of the zones by a third; more die off in the months afterward of bizarre afflictions and injuries, often going mad in the process. the city blames disease, spreading it as anti-zones propaganda among citizens; the desert creates the Destroya mythos

2015 — the Fabulous Four, though only teenagers, begin to become notorious, making their fame by pushing back violently as Better Living begins to expand its reconstruction efforts in zone one, seeking to reclaim it as part of the city

2016 —killjoys get bold, and the city suffers a sudden unbalancing as a large number of young people find ways into the desert; in-city raids, especially of lower districts, become common as BL/ind cracks down on smugglers and introduce new security measures to the walls surrounding the city

2017 — the Fabulous Four are declared public enemies 1-4. Exterminator Korse is assigned to end the threat

2018 — everyone on the edge of their seats as Korse and the Fab Four are locked in a power struggle that becomes the embodiment of city vs. desert; almost all other directly physical city/desert confrontation has ceased, except in service of aiding their champion(s). Dr Death's broadcasts updating listeners on the events of fights and escapes are the most listened to thing on both sides

2019 — the Fabulous Four destroy the eastern checkpoint, storm the city, and decimate the S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W headquarters before, ultimately, falling in battle; all for one little girl. they become Martyrs.

2020 — the dark year. Better Living seems inescapable, the killjoys are scattered and scared, and a great many are killed or disappear into reEd. some return to the city without being captured. those who remain are more certain than ever they can never give in. despite killjoy interference, parts of zone one are annexed into the city

2021 — the Fab Four reappear in the zones. some say they were never killed after all, a few become suspicious they are reEd's, or android dupes of the originals, but by and large the mythology of their martyrdom lends to another explanation altogether: they've been brought back to life by the desert itself to lead the fight. they are solidified as the Heights of killjoy fame, bulletproof and lauded, even outright worshiped by some; hope returns

2022 — there are several building collapses and series of fires in the newly expanded Neon District; rumors of a rogue city agent as well as stories about Perro -a mythical figure from the zones- being responsible both go flying in all directions. nobody's really sure what happened, other than that a lot of citizens and neutrals died (that is, nobody publicizes what actually happened)

2023 — as part of their recovery efforts, the city attempts to smooth relations with neutrals and claim land in the zones, establishing several greenhouses almost literally overnight; in answer, most are destroyed by the killjoys, the two left standing are claimed by rebel crews and renamed into independent settlements

2024 — emboldened by the destruction of the greenhouses, a killjoy leader of a particularly violent group attacks the city directly; the city retaliates, destroying a peaceful settlement in zone three. both sides are criticized by their allies, the resulting unrest spans both city and zones

2025 — the Destroya Rampage unfolds. zone five and parts of six go dark, nothing but static on every radio for months. entire crews from both sides (local killjoys & investigative excursions from the city) are lost, seeming to turn on their own while within these 'dark zones'. several massive dust storms sweep over Battery City and the surrounding zones, causing blackouts and widespread interference with broadcasts and electronic systems of every type. fighting between the city and desert scales back as the environmental conditions threaten everyone

2026 — the sandstorms are replaced by torrential downpours (which sounds good but isn't, in the desert), some of which are typical rain and some of which burn on contact- relatively normal in the outer zones, but unheard of in the city. city initiatives focus on re-assuming relative control over the city's climate, desert settlements focus on surviving.

2027 — weather patterns gradually stabilize; in the desert, old secrets -uncovered by the winds and rains- begin to surface. whether they lead a new charge against the city or destroy the fragile balance of the desert . . .

2028 — . . . Remains to be seen. The whispers gather, but don't seem to go anywhere. Things have gone still and quiet -as still and as quiet as they get, anymore- and the only sure about a staring contest is that someone has to blink, eventually. something will shift, everyone's waiting for it, waiting to see which direction the world tilts this time

2029-2030s — You Are Here. Don't panic. Keep running.

Submission: Did Josh help scooter with the master’s heist?

Do you still believe that Josh was in cahoots with scooter regarding the master’s heist? After him wearing the green pin to the met gala I am starting to wonder if he is in on everything with Taylor and karlie

SR: I don’t see any scenario where he was not involved on some level with the master’s heist. He has been long-time buddies with the Braun brothers (Scooter and Adam). So, I don’t see how Scooter would not have at least discussed the idea of buying Big Machine and her masters with Jerk. Also, consider that Jerk works in financial investing, and there is even more reason for Scooter to discuss this potential deal with him (if even just for advice).

Then we have Scooter repping both Karlie and Jerk as clients at this time as well. Of course Jerk was in the loop. And, he likely assisted Scooter with the financial connections to pull it off (since there was a direct link between Kushners and the investment firm that helped Scooter purchase them). Jerk was likely smart enough to keep any paper trail to him out of it.

Oh and don’t forget that during this same time period, Jerk and Scooter were in business together trying to purchase another music entity:

It was July 2020, and Behles and another Ableton executive were on the call with an unlikely group of potential investors: Diplo, the DJ-producer; Scooter Braun, the entrepreneur who manages Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande, among others; and Joshua Kushner, brother of Jared, husband of model Karlie Kloss and head of Thrive Capital.

So, yes, I believe 100% that he was involved.

Do I also share your concern that they are working hand in hand with him, and that the “Taylor hates Jerk” and “Karlie is in chains” narratives are bullshit? Yes, I do have those concerns. Prior to Trump stealing the presidency, Austin did a pap walk with Jerk, and Taylor allowed the criminal into her Rhode Island home for the 4th of July/Tom Hiddleston celebrations.

I am trying to wrap my head around it, and so far I am not sure what to make of it. I don’t believe they are being blackmailed because Taylor’s lawyers would just call the FBI. I don’t believe Taylor is naive. I believe Karlie is/was though. I don’t know how it could be argued otherwise. She is why Scooter and Jerk are in Taylor’s life in the first place. 

I can come up with three scenarios, and I have no idea which one it is:

1) She is keeping her enemy close until the proper time to expose him

2) She was not really that upset about her masters, and it was all one big publicity stunt, and we are the tools who fell for it (and they are all friends). I don’t really believe this.

3) Taylor and Karlie are not that concerned about the politics that they publicly claim they are, and they just took their perceived easiest route to grow their family

Earis Recs 3.1 - Sex Pollen. That's It. That's the Rec.

There’s something pure about sex pollen fic. It’s just compulsory fucking. That’s it. I’ve often joked that sex pollen walked so that A/B/O could run, but sex pollen does not have the societal complications of A/B/O and certainly does not require alternate anatomies. Sex pollen can run the gamut from crack fic (oh no, we’ve wandered into this mysterious greenhouse together what will happen) to heavy plot-driving devices (oh no, we’re mortal enemies who have been forced to have sex maybe we should work together.) Sex pollen can be considered to be a subset of a larger aphrodisiac-related trope. In aphrodisiac fics, there are all sorts of entities causing the need to fuck - including sand, moth dust, aphrodiasiac sap, alien pheremones, etc.. And while it usually rides the line of dub-con/non-con, it doesn’t have to mean that the characters themselves are forcing themselves on each other (at least until one party doses the other(s) without consent).

For my first iteration of this theme, I will be focusing on classic sex pollen in Reylo (but there will be background pairings, which I will note). 6 full fics plus a 7th microfic/drabble. I love this fic because it is sweet and languid and sexy in the best way. It does have non-Reylo sex, but the true emotional connection here is Rey and Ben and it is Reylo HEA.

achille may or may not have abilities related to tauvane's dragon blood addiction. he doesn't crave blood, but it sends him into a spiral thinking that he can turn out like her despite his efforts to save his mother. and instead of limsa lominsa since I'm moving away from the sea pirate angle, achille was born in coerthas in an abandoned cabin and wasn't allowed to go outside for the first 8 years of his life until he met chiron. he was almost executed by the halonic inquisition as a child after they found tauvane's hiding place, as they believed he was a draconic spawn that must be put down

patroclus has trauma-based amnesia that's related to the night his parents died. he was an unlikely witness to what would later be known as a murder mystery, but he can't remember much of it. instead of being killed, the perpetrator left him in the desert in hopes he would perish from exposure as he was still a child when it happened. after almost a week he was miraculously found wandering alone by a traveling merchant; he was weak from hunger, barefoot, and mute from shock. patroclus didn't speak for almost two years after the event. priam only took him in to keep patroclus from revealing the truth of his parents' murder

hector and halmarut have a more personal relationship with one another than anyone had ever realized. think of gaia and mitron but it's not romantic, it's more akin to beyond: two souls, amnesia: the dark descent, and outlast with psychological horror elements mixed in. hector is plagued with horrific visions and moments of dissociation because of halmarut's influence, though he didn't know it then. he only associated this with what he called 'the shadow', a terrifying but strangely protective entity

kirke was a scientist for the garlean military, the body she inhabits was once a conscript soldier from a far away province, she effectively killed off the host to take over the corpse like a parasite. she rose through the ranks quickly once the higher-ups realized that she's a living relic of allag. kirke doesn't care much for garlemald's conquest of the world as long as it doesn't interfere with her work of mixing science with necromancy. she held the rank of 'mal' (praefectus medicorum) and was the head medic of an imperial legion before the fall of garlemald

andromache may or may not be involved with a shadowy organization (NOT the ascians) with the goal of destroying hydaelyn the mothercrystal. this organization saved her life after the 7UC and helped her get back on her feet despite her amnesia. they want to go back to a time when man once had the power to become a living primal without the need to temper others, they share a common goal with the scions in stopping the ascians from completing another rejoining

yves can transform into a giant voidsent canine with multiple heads (aka shadowkeeper). despite his moniker 'the accursed one', the mages of mhach worshipped him and his mother cessair as their savior and destroyer of amdapor. think silent hill with the order and alessa/alessa becoming god. yves' sire is still being figured out he may or may not be related to golbez just based on yves being extremely powerful

paris and their voidsent have a relationship much like light and ryuk from death note. they bicker, they argue, they fight, they joke, but they have a contract with one another: the more paris borrows its power, the higher the voidsent sets the price for paris' aether afterward. in the event that paris is no longer able to control the power, the voidsent is allowed to eat them whole, thus the contract would be fulfilled. it makes the climax of endwalker incredibly dicey because of paris and zenos' deathmatch against one another, paris quite literally almost died out there if it weren't for meteion's timely intervention

azem (helen) is much more of an outsider and firebrand than originally conceived. they never conformed to any of the rules and fought back against society's conservatism and politics, which earned them a lot of enemies and very few friends. their parents, highly esteemed scientists, strived for them to earn a respectable seat in the convocation since the seat of azem in my vision is less respected and more mocked for its reputation of attracting odd seat holders like venat. instead, helen became the new azem, which infuriated their family enough to cut off all contact with them. helen is related to lahabrea, and they despise each other. helen enjoyed hanging out with erich however

Hipping and Hopping: I Was Raised By Hip-Hop

Today is a vitally important day for me in many ways. I am playing tonight as a launch party for my first track being released in collaboration with my friend, Ranj Kaler. It’s his EP and I played a part on the title track, Break The Chains. The pivotal link between another huge importance of today is that the sample I used in the track would not have come to use, were it not for the big birthday entity, Hip-Hop - which has turned fifty today.

So, what you read is not a test, I’m celebrating this feat.

I remember vividly the first time I was really exposed to the deeper side of Hip-Hop and the irony of it all. I would have been 12, with my more youthfully liberated friend Ceri owning an Ice-T cassette. Now, as a highly impressionable and sheltered kid - this was vastly different to Walk This Way and My Adidas, which would have been the only other tracks of the genre in my hearing experience. But while Ice-T and so many rappers of that generation were so scalded for their lyrics - the whole package was something I got hooked upon immediately.

And once one can was opened, I wanted to try all flavours of this new and edgy style of sound. After all, all I ever heard at home was a mixture of the Rocky IV soundtrack on repeat, ABBA, plus the fresher angle hip-hop’s sampling and verse. There was more to life than small town vanilla 2.4 family existence – there was a bigger world out there. Yet the South Bronx and the five boroughs which gave birth and rise to Hip-Hop may have been Mars in comparison with Llanelli in South Wales.

It opened my eyes to DJs and the whole relationship between them and MCs. Although in those days, the MC was always the more revered, my path to turntablism had already begun years earlier, as I had quite a record collection - my grandmother used to give me 7” singles, donated from the DJ at the local RAFA club. There was no Sugarhill Gang, nor Afrika Bambaataa - clearly South-West Wales wasn’t ready for that in the early eighties. But The Jam, Madness and Blondie were the more reputable of the small-sized vinyl stacked in my bedroom.

By 1989, I was already ordering Hip Hop Connection magazine from the newsagent next to my grandparents’ house, plus my journey into the collectors’ category began by buying 7” releases of Hip-Hop singles. Then, recording tracks from the radio onto tapes via Jeff Young’s Big Beat Show on Radio 1. Yet it was a broadcast on Channel Four that year which scratched the DJ life into me. The annual Technics DJ Competition was broadcasted one night. London’s Cutmaster Swift and his amazing styling, cutting and scratching was one routine I watched over and again in wonder.

So, by the age of fifteen, I had already been encouraged to think differently about life and music. Already having seen examples of culture - obviously not all positive - in fact learning the way of the sword about slavery and inequality wasn’t something which went over my head – it made me want the world to be very different. Hence the sample used on the track, from an outspoken civil rights activist of the 1960s (you can do the research on this one – wink-wink), which many will recognise – many may not.

“To be a human being, to be respected as a human being, to be given the rights of a man; in this society, on this earth, on this day, which we intend to be which we intend to bring into existence…”

The words following those used in the sample and not used in Break the Chains – are the ones with which this great leader of the people became most synonymous. Public Enemy, one of my idolised bands along with KRS-One from Boogie Down Productions were the ones who made this recognition possible.

Since then – many versions of myself later; I’ve developed and merged my taste through a myriad of ages, of styles and from travelling and relationships; but the gravity of the most influential musical form from my own childhood remains. Alongside the invaluable memories – it took me until 2013 to finally see De La Soul live and until 2014 to see Public Enemy live. Both were done while living in Melbourne. The former saw my copy of Say No Go signed by the band, which is now up on my wall of frames. The latter was a sublime memory of seeing Flavor Flav play the saxophone during the set (many will still not know that he’s a multi-instrumentalist). But the politics, the samples, the effects and legal wrangles; the cutting, the scratching and the controversial law smashing – will always be a big part of my musical armoury.

I finally made a reference sheet of my main persona that I'm proud of! Xenophon Draike is pronounced 'Zen-o-fin Drake' btw! Also yeaah XenophonDraike is my username everywhere but I legit stole the name from my persona because their name was so unique. Now some little lore tidbits for those interested...

In Xenophon's main universe there are a ton of alien species out in space. Most folks on Earth don't know about this but Xenophon was snoopy and bored enough to just hack their way into finding that all out. Back then Xenophon was a human and human Xenophon was such an innocent lady before being sent to the wonders of space with a Captain Austin Phoenix. Captain Phoenix trained Xenophon to be a captain as well and a whole bunch of crazy happened and Captain Xenophon ended up with a ragtag crew, a kinda sassy homemade AI named ACE (A Computer Entity,) and later becoming something most definitely not human and the new public enemy number 1.

One of the alien species, which is what Xenophon ends up being turned into, is called a coalescence. There is a wide variety of coalescences and to seriously call them a species is kinda weird because they're more of like a general type of alien.. Coalescences are Xenophon's universe's equivalent to hiveminds that'd assimilate and consume lifeforms. The kind Xenophon is is probably a lot like the Borg from Star Trek physically (not so much mentally hahah) in that they'd assimilate not only organisms but also technology. Coalescences in the universe have unique personalities and mannerisms from each that widely depends on who and what they were before becoming a coalescence. So you can meet a really nice one that'd gladly go out to lunch with you or you could possibly find yourself in serious pickle with a dangerous coalescence that only thinks of assimilation and growth. I did make a whole classification system for coalescences based on how big they are (which more often than not warns folks of how dangerous they are) which is what the "Classification: 0.3" on Xenophon's ref comes from. You can see it below:

· Class 1 is incredibly small, roughly the biomass of one being to a city. · Class 2 is between the size of a country to the size of half a planet. · Class 3 is an entire planet and encroaching on others in a star system. · Class 4 is a fully taken over star system. · Class 5 is multiple systems.

Then there's the unique classification, Class 0. Class 0 coalescences have unique properties such as being able to assimilate inorganic material all the way to utilizing simple offensive abilities found in nature such as venom and echolocation (this list is not exhaustive.) Class 0's are similarly classified as regular coalescences like so:

· Class 0.1 - size of Class 1 with unique traits · Class 0.2 - size of Class 2 with unique traits · Class 0.3 - size of Class 3 with unique traits · Class 0.4 - size of Class 4 with unique traits · Class 0.5 - size of Class 5 with unique traits

Captain Xenophon Draike is considered a Class 0.3 solely because they assimilated their spacecraft, The Exstellis, and stole and assimilated a dangerous, neutron star chucking experimental weapon and combined the two into The Exstellion. The Exstellion hosts Xenophon's main core, an inert satellite core and an active satellite core. Cores are a unique organ to a coalescence that are a lot like a brain, with the main one being what runs the whole being and the satellite ones allowing a coalescence to split up their matter and manipulate it in two or more separate areas. All cores have antennae to send and receive information. Xenophon's body and core in the reference sheet above is actually considered a satellite and is the only active one of two at the moment. Xenophon's main core is veeery attached to their ship (which is also kinda part of them..) so they can't really visit the surface of planets and such with it.

She-Ra AU Concept: EtherianOlympics!AU

This is lowkey a shitpost of an AU. Basically, we start in the middle of season two. The Horde is still doing its thing, and while it is not fighting against every kingdom, we already know it is fighting against multiple. However, Scorpia, who is basically the princess of the Horde, was invited to Princess Prom. In all honesty, it seems like the Horde is generally considered its own sovereign entity. So when Princess Sweet Bee announces the grand reintroduction of the Etheria Games (which haven’t happened since the beginning of the war) in order to boost morale amongst both her subjects and any nearby kingdoms who wish to participate, she accidentally invites the Horde to join as well, since it’s technically its own country. 

Many higher ups in the Horde are conflicted about this, but they realized that 1) many in the Horde were really excited to do something like this and 2) it could be great for publicity (intimidate their enemies with their sheer athleticism whilst also improving their relationships with other countries not involved in the war, as the Princess Prom incident made them look bad, so this would be their “redemption arc”). They announced this to all those in the Fright Zone, and began auditions for joining the games. 

The Horde already keeps track of which squads are the best at which sports, and has a ranking system. It also already has its own tournaments amongst squads each year. This is the same for single person sports and such. That’s why they simply asked which teams (or individuals) wanted to compete in the games, and out of those who wanted to compete, they picked out the top one (or, in the case of individual sports, the top 5). Basically everyone who was already at the top or in the top 5 chose to compete, as it could get them pretty far ahead, and the Horde already has a culture around competition and proving yourself.

Squads who were in the top for multiple sports could choose which one they wanted to compete in. Those who were in the top for an individual sport and a team sport were encouraged to pick the team sport, but there were a few cases in which the team chose to drop their opportunity in favor of letting their teammate follow their individual sport. For those who made it into the top 5 for multiple sports, they were encouraged to choose the sport they were either the best at or had the highest ranking in.

The Horde has some stupid practices when it comes to considering people’s jobs and “usefulness”, but the Horde isn’t completely stupid. There are many disabled members of the Horde who work in the Fright Zone, as well as many others who won’t (or don’t need to be) fighting on the front lines for a while. So they took those people aside and gave them the chance to audition for the cheer team. Multiple kingdoms in Etheria have a bit of a cheer culture, even if it’s not the same as American cheer. It definitely has many of the dance and gymnastics elements to it, but all different types of dance. Each culture has its own unique style of cheer, and the Horde is no exception. In order to show that they are the best, they made their own cheer team. Many athletic folks who didn’t make any of the teams decided to join this cheer squad. Some folks got into the elite “Pyramid Cheer Squad”, some got into the “Dance Cheer Squad”, some got into the “Noisemaker Cheer Squad”, and some joined the “Signs and Flyers Cheer Squad”.

Kyle joined the cheer squad and discovered that he’s actually really good at cheerleading despite his clumsiness. He eventually became one of the heads for the Noisemaker Cheer Squad due to his organizational skills and being really energetic/enthusiastic.

Lonnie is number 3 at track & field, which is why she will be competing. She will be doing the 200m sprint, 400m hurdles, pole vault, and javelin.

Rogelio is number 2 for branch racing. This is a sport in which competitors must race through a forest of trees without flying, making contact with the ground, using magic, or breaking branches/vines in a way that makes once usable things no longer usable. The point is to basically leap/swing from tree to tree using strength, agility, speed, and quicktime strategy.

This AU is very dumb in its premise, but I can make it even dumber: everyone in the Horde is so focused on the Games, they forget to fight the war, and whilst they keep a strong hold over their previously stolen territory, they forget to continue invading places and basically stop expanding. Many folks also meet and even get along with folks from other countries, and not only do many Horde athletes start to desire a normal sports career, but some of the other athletes start to empathize with many of the Horde’s younger cadets (most of the Horde’s “olympic” athletes are cadets and some of them are pretty young). 

After the games, pretty much everyone in the Horde realizes that they’d all rather just do sports stuff and be normal, so they tell the princesses that they’ll stop invading places as long as they get to keep some of the land they captured (mainly just the farmland and such). They may overthrow Hordak/take away his power in the Horde, depending on my mood and whether or not I want him to also decide that sports are better than war. The Horde becomes a relatively chill (if aggressively competitive and slightly standoffish) place, slowly going from colonizing army to industrial, self-sustaining country. Their leadership becomes a lot less controlling, and the “citizens” of the Horde gain a lot more freedoms and civil liberties. They slowly become less isolated, and eventually a program to improve Etheria’s technology is started, where Hordean (demonym for the Horde) engineers and technicians began introducing Hordean technology (not weapons) to other nations. They even began giving away certain tech whilst showing others how to use it. This program also allowed for cultural exchange, most of which was sports related.

The Horde went from an invasive force of destruction to “the kingdom of sports.”

So that’s how the Horde gets defeated. Through the power of really liking sports.

ST. PHILARET, METROPOLITAN OF MOSCOW (1867)

Saint Philaret (Drozdov) was born on December 26, 1782 in Kolomna, a suburb of Moscow, and was named Basil in Baptism. His father was a deacon (who later became a priest).

The young Basil studied at the Kolomna seminary, where courses were taught in Latin. He was small in stature, and far from robust, but his talents set him apart from his classmates.

In 1808, while he was a student at the Moscow Theological Academy at Holy Trinity Lavra, Basil received monastic tonsure and was named Philaret after Saint Philaret the Merciful (December 1). Not long after this, he was ordained a deacon.

In 1809, he went to teach at the Theological Academy in Petersburg, which had been reopened only a short time before. Hierodeacon Philaret felt ill at ease in Petersburg, but he was a very good teacher who tried to make theology intelligible to all. Therefore, he worked to have classes taught in Russian rather than in Latin.

Philaret was consecrated as bishop in 1817, and was appointed to serve as a vicar in the diocese of Petersburg. He soon rose to the rank of archbishop, serving in Tver, Yaroslavl, and Moscow. In 1826, he was made Metropolitan of Moscow, and remained in that position until his death.

The Metropolitan believed that it was his duty to educate and enlighten his flock about the Church’s teachings and traditions. Therefore, he preached and wrote about how to live a Christian life, basing his words on the wisdom of the Holy Fathers. His 1823 CATECHISM has been an influential book in Russia and in other countries for nearly two hundred years.

The reforms of Tsar Peter the Great had abolished the patriarchate and severely restricted the Church, placing many aspects of its life under governmental control. Metropolitan Philaret tried to regain some of the Church’s freedom to administer its own affairs, regarding Church and State as two separate entities working in harmony. Not everyone shared his views, and he certainly made his share of enemies. Still, he did achieve some degree of success in effecting changes.

One day, Archimandrite Anthony (Medvedev), a disciple of Saint Seraphim of Sarov (January 2), paid a call on his diocesan hierarch. During their conversation, Father Anthony spoke of the patristic teaching on unceasing prayer, and he may have told the Metropolitan something of Saint Seraphim. Saint Philaret felt a deep spiritual kinship with Father Anthony, who soon became his Elder. He made no important decision concerning diocesan affairs, or his own spiritual life, without consulting Father Anthony. Saint Seraphim once told Father Anthony that he would become the igumen of a great monastery, and gave him advice on how to conduct himself. It was Saint Philaret who appointed him as igumen of Holy Trinity Lavra.

Metropolitan Philaret wanted to have the Holy Scriptures translated into modern Russian, so that people could read and understand them. Father Anthony, however, criticized the unorthodox ethos of the Russian Bible Society, which was popular during the reign of Alexander I. In his eagerness to have the Bible translated into modern Russian, Saint Philaret at first supported the Bible Society without realizing how dangerous some of its ideas were. The first Russian translation of the Bible was printed during the reign of Tsar Alexander II.

Under the direction of his Elder, Metropolitan Philaret made great progress in the spiritual life. He also received the gifts of unceasing prayer, clairvoyance, and healing. It is no exaggeration to suggest that Saint Philaret himself was one of the forces behind the spiritual revival in nineteenth century Russia. He defended the Elders of Optina Monastery when they were misunderstood and attacked by many. He protected the nuns of Saint Seraphim’s Diveyevo Convent, and supported the publication of patristic texts by Optina Monastery.

Metropolitan Philaret was asked to dedicate the new Triumphal Gate in Moscow, and Tsar Nicholas I was also present. Seeing statues of pagan gods on the Gate, the Metropolitan refused to bless it. The Tsar became angry, and many people criticized the saint’s refusal to participate. He felt that he had followed his conscience in this matter, but still felt disturbed by it, and so he prayed until he finally dropped off to sleep. He was awakened around 5 A.M. by the sound of someone opening the door which he usually kept locked. The Metropolitan sat up and saw Saint Sergius of Radonezh (September 25) leaning over his bed. “Don’t worry,” he said, “it will all pass.” Then he disappeared.

Two months before his death, Saint Philaret saw his father in a dream, warning him about the 19th day of the month. On November 19, 1867, he served the Divine Liturgy for the last time. At two in the afternoon, they went to his cell and found his body. He was buried at Holy Trinity Lavra.

Saint Philaret was glorified by the Russian Orthodox Church in 1995.

India, which received the Christian Faith through the Apostle Thomas’ preaching of the Word, was ruled by King Abenner, a worshipper of idols and a fierce persecutor of Christians. For a long time, he did not have any children. Finally, his son was born, and was named Ioasaph. At the birth of the prince, the wisest court astrologer predicted that the prince would adopt the Christian Faith being persecuted by his father. Wanting to prevent the fulfillment of that prophecy, he ordered that a separate palace be erected for the prince, and that the prince never hear a single word about Christ and His teachings.

As a youth, the prince asked and was given his father’s permission to go outside the borders of the court, and as a result first saw that there exist suffering, disease, old age, and death. This brought the prince to ponder the vanity and pointlessness of life, and he spent increasingly more time in serious meditation.

At that time, a wise hermit, the Venerable Barlaam, had taken up his ascetic struggle in a far-off desert. Through a divine revelation, he learned of the youth’s painful suffering in searching for the truth. Venerable Barlaam left the desert, and in the guise of a merchant, went to India. Upon entering the city in which the prince’s palace stood, he announced that he had brought with him an especially precious gemstone which had the miraculous capacity to heal diseases. Brought before the prince Ioasaph, he began to lay out to him the teachings of the Christian Faith, first employing parables, and then teaching directly “from the [books of] the Holy Gospels and the [Epistles of] the Holy Apostles…” From Barlaam’s instructions, the youth realized that the precious stone was faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He came to believe in Him, and asked to receive Holy Baptism. SAINT PATROCLUS OF BOURGES ( Gaul_577)

Saint Patroclus of Bourges (c. 496–576) was a Merovingian ascetic, who was a native of the province of Berry, France. In his Historia Francorum, Gregory of Tours writes that Patroclus became a deacon at Bourges in his youth.[1] He would drink nothing stronger than water that had been sweetened with honey. He ate only bread, water, and salt, and devoted long periods to prayer, being credited with healing powers. He died aged eighty years old.

One thing I'd like to know is how many of her own lies she's told herself so long that she believes them now, and how many are conscious manipulations.

The thought came to me when I started chuckling about lemons again for an arbitrary reason. I remembered, when I first laughed in public about it, when she made the mistake of again coming to MY blog to pick a fight on MY shit, even though I've NEVER done that to her, like. She started squawking and denied it ever happened. Then the logs came out and she shifted subjects, because she had no idea that her lemon meltdown was so bizarre I was posting my confusion about it literally all day, and that was pre-breakup so it's not like I set her up with it lmao

So then I think about them encouraging her retarded lemon shirt (which yes, by the way, I did put the lemons in her alkaline water, which is why her holy water turned acidic and shifted its PH by more than 1/3 so her plants could start dissolving the sediments in the soil, ending their rootbind and making them grow)... and like. The fact that they probably helped erase that.

So here's the catch. There's always the option I believe more, that she's just a conscious user, abuser and manipulator that tries to pity herself into feeling like a human being, because she's had this pattern of behavior for nearly two decades.

But if I give the room that it's MHI, if she really forgot that, that makes her current situation even more cursed to failure. Because she based a major life decision off of it that will impact her for the rest of the days she is breathing, and those people are dependent on if she forgets the lunacy by which she made the decision. As much as they profit from her intentionally disassociating me from myself and letting her play her fake little cult religion with her little toys to eat her candy and get bigger and balder and crazier every day.

Like her fiance, for example. If she didn't have the lemon meltdown she's either too embarrassed to admit or forgot due to MHI and repression, he wouldn't be there. If she faces these issues, the origin of his excuse to be there, and the steps he took to get there, are enemy manipulator action. If she's truly divorced enough from reality that she believed Aaron The Coyote is a separate entity representing Hermes, from Aaron The Guy Typing Right Here That She's Coincidentally Stalked Since He Left, they need that lie to continue on both sides. Because otherwise, all they've done is mutually groom and use each other the entire time.

So yeah. I'm really wondering, because that determines the ratio of evil to insane between the people responsible for these years of horse shit and this woman having nothing Real left.

In the not-so-distant future, global governments have been secretly collaborating on Project MKUltra, an ambitious experiment aimed at enhancing human capabilities through mind-altering technologies. However, a catastrophic breach occurs, unleashing a wave of chaos and transforming the unsuspecting public into hostile entities.

As the world descends into madness, a group of desperate scientists concocts a daring plan to salvage what remains of humanity. They decide to create an android infused with the consciousness of a dying soldier, hoping that the hybrid being will possess the intelligence to understand and combat the evolving threat.

The android awakens in a desolate world, its memory a fragmented mosaic of human experiences. Armed with formidable melee weapons and the authority to construct structures, it sets out on a perilous journey to collect DNA samples from the infected populace, a crucial component for developing a cure.

As the android battles through hordes of hostile creatures, memories from its past life begin to resurface. Fragments of human emotion and connection intertwine with the cold efficiency of its mechanical nature, blurring the lines between man and machine.

As the android progresses, it uncovers a disturbing truth: the MKUltra leak was not an accident but a calculated act by a powerful monopoly seeking to control the surviving population. The android realizes that its creation was not solely for the purpose of salvation but a pawn in a game of extortion.

Fueled by a newfound sense of purpose and a desire for justice, the android defies the authority that birthed it. It becomes a symbol of rebellion against the oppressive forces manipulating the remnants of humanity. North Carolina Republicans create "secret police force"

North Carolina’s new $30 billion state budget contains a provision that gives extraordinary investigative powers to a partisan oversight committee co-chaired by Senate Leader Phil Berger (R) and House Speaker Tim Moore (R).

The Joint Legislative Committee on Government Operations — or Gov Ops for short — is empowered to seize “any document or system of record” from anyone who works in or with state and local government during its investigations. The rule applies to contractors, subcontractors, and any other non-state entity “receiving, directly and indirectly, public funds,” including charities and state universities. 

Moreover, Gov Ops staff will be authorized to enter “any building or facility” owned or leased by a state or non-state entity without a judicial warrant. This includes the private residences of subcontractors and contractors who run businesses out of their homes, lawmakers say.

Alarmingly, public employees under investigation will be required to keep all communication and requests “confidential.” They cannot alert their supervisor of the investigation nor consult with legal counsel. Violating this rule “shall be grounds for disciplinary action, including dismissal,” the law reads. Those who refuse to cooperate face jail time and fines of up to $1,000. In the event that Gov Ops searches a person’s home, these rules mean that the person 1) must keep the entry a secret, 2) cannot seek outside help (unless necessary for fulfilling the request, the law says), and 3) could face criminal charges if Gov Ops deems them uncooperative. 

Moore and Berger claim these new rules are benign and necessary to exercise oversight of state funds. But Democrats and other critics say the changes turn Gov Ops into a “secret police force,” warning that the new policies have far-reaching implications.

During a legislative debate, State Senator Graig Meyer (D) asked lawmakers to consider a hypothetical scenario in which Gov Ops accesses personal health records like ultrasounds, which are required by the state to receive abortion pills. The Commission, Meyer said, could release these documents “to the public in a hearing.” 

Gov Ops could also potentially enter and search “a law firm that receives state funding for court-appointed lawyers,” compromising “the sanctity of the attorney-client privilege,” State Representative Allison Dahle (D) said. Dahle added that these new powers will allow Gov Ops members to carry out grudges, empowering them to target political enemies as “backlash for previous actions.” 

“I don’t think I have ever publicly called the GOP leadership ‘authoritarian’ because that’s not a term I take lightly, but their approach to seizing power and cover up their tracks now fits the bill,” Meyer told Popular Information. “The hypotheticals of how Gov Ops power could be abused are endless. Verbal assurances of restraint are inadequate; we need clear guardrails in law.” Meyer added that he “hope[s] that members of both parties can see what's happening before it's too late."

The legislature created the Gov Ops committee years ago to increase ”governmental accountability by ensuring that governmental institutions operate efficiently, effectively, and in compliance with the law.” But unlike other types of government watchdog groups, GovOps is partisan. Republicans dominate the body, and the group’s politics greatly influence the types of investigations it carries out. For example, Gov Ops launched an inquiry into diversity training programs at the University of North Carolina earlier this year.

This wasn’t always the norm in North Carolina – the state used to have a nonpartisan division “tasked with evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of public services.” Known as the Program Evaluation Division (PED), the unit was created in 2007 after receiving unanimous approval from state lawmakers. PED was “said to have saved the state millions,” the News & Observer reported. But, in 2021, Moore and Berger shuttered the unit. A spokesperson for Berger at the time noted that Gov Ops had a “similar mandate” to PED.

Keeping public records secret 

The Republican leaders who pushed to dramatically expand Gov Ops' power say it will enhance government accountability. The same leaders, however, pushed through several provisions in the budget that restrict access to legislative public records, eliminating a critical tool for accountability — including for Gov Ops itself.

One provision repeals a law that required “communications regarding redistricting” be made publicly available when new legislative maps were adopted. As one of the most gerrymandered states in the nation, public records have been instrumental in challenging North Carolina’s redistricting maps. In 2022, a gerrymandering trial exposed a top Republican redistricting official for using “secret maps to help draft the state’s redistricting plan.” 

This fall, Republican lawmakers are set to redraw voting maps after the new conservative majority on the state’s Supreme Court overturned a ruling and legalized partisan gerrymandering. Under the new budget, "lawmakers responding to public records requests will have no obligation to share any drafts or materials that guided their redistricting decisions."

Another provision allows North Carolina lawmakers to exempt themselves from public records requests. Current and former legislators, the law says, ”shall not be required to reveal or to consent to reveal any document, supporting document, drafting request, or information request made or received by that legislator while a legislator.” Under the state’s previous law, legislators were recognized as the custodians of their own records, but had to file a “specific exemption” to withhold records. 

A third provision will allow legislators to “determine…whether a record is a public record.” Legislators can now decide to “retain, destroy, sell, loan, or otherwise dispose of'' their documents. 

Moore claims that the change to public records requests seeks to “clarify the ambiguity in current statute and broadens the purview of what constitutes a public record, increasing transparency and efficiency in responsiveness from legislators.” Meanwhile, Berger alleges the provision was needed to “settle a dispute between the legislative services office and the state Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, which archives public records.” But the Department, through a spokesperson, said it was “not aware of any dispute,” the News & Observer reported. “This new provision appears to be the legislature entirely exempting themselves from the public records law and the archiving process that has retained government records throughout the state’s history,” the spokesperson told the local outlet.

Opponents say that these new rules will make it harder to uncover corruption and create accountability. In a letter to Berger and Moore, the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters expressed concerns that the changes will “permit the General Assembly to operate in secrecy,  shielded from public view and accountability to those whom the members of the Assembly were elected to serve.” The North Carolina Press Association also objected to the new privileges, calling them a “significant threat to the public’s right to see public record.”
