Quick Quip from Licht Klein’s Act 2 Ch. 10 - w/Azel

Just a quick quip from chapter 10 summary t/l - not 100%. Idk why, but I can’t help but laugh at Azel and his salesman ways 😝

After waking from a dream about the rose in the rose garden, Emma receives a knock at her door. It’s Azel. It’s the middle of the night and he lets himself into her room.

Emma asks if this is common Tanzanite etiquette. He says it’s not but he doesn’t really care. He is there with an offer. 

Azel gives Emma three packages to choose from - each costing money from her - he’s not helping out the goodness of his heart. 

The lowest option plan is delivery service of a letter he offers one way and round-trip deliveries, but the cost will vary.

The middle plan includes a monitoring service of Licht and his well-being, & the letter delivery service.

The high option plan of Azel his authority to bring Licht back.

Since Emma can’t afford to pay out, she chooses option 3 the most affordable package.

He congratulates her for her choice and offers to bless her letter at an additional service fee………(🙄 oh god.)

Emma thinks that when Azel is silent he really seems like a god, but as soon as he opens his mouth he seems strangely vulgar///mundane.

I’m planning to translate summaries of each chapter once I complete his first ending. There is part of this conversation where his veil is slightly lifted imo and it gives me a little reassurance of some theories I have about him. This will be posted later.

Thinking about how Leo says he uses his jokes to cope and y’know, thinking harder on it I think it may very well be because of what else uses one-liners and puns and that type of humor.

Specifically, 80’s action movies and campy sci-fi. Even more specifically, the protagonists of these.

So I can imagine why, exactly, Leo leans toward this brand of humor. It’s directly linked to things he loves! But even more than that is why I think it’s used as a coping mechanism.

In these genres, these quips tend to be said by the winner - or, if not a winner, then someone who will stay alive. So there’s a confidence behind them, an assurance, almost, that even if things go wrong, things aren’t ever too serious. There’s no bad endings here! It’s all good fun, even if the stakes seem high.

Leo canonically has been known to steer his brothers away from the more brutal villains and toward more fun, lighthearted activities and not-so-dangerous criminals. So for Leo, these jokes definitely make things less heavy, make the situations they find themselves in less intense.

It’s kinda not just coping, but also can be seen as a form of escapism. A safety blanket. A way for Leo to defuse the tension of knowing just how dangerous their lives are and replace that with a levity which implies that things will be okay.

Unfortunately, levity alone does not alter reality.

I don’t tend to get political online (and I’m not going to now, just getting serious for once) but this year there’s a lot of misinformation and disinformation campaigns going around on all sides and I see way too many people falling for them wholeheartedly.

I didn’t run media literacy and outreach workshops for three years to let all this stuff slide so please remember;

There is no politician on the planet you will agree with 100%. If there is they’re lying to you. They’re going to disappoint you. So the best we can do is find those were agree with on most things, who has a history of voting in line with their public opinions on which you agree, and who will surround themselves with different opinions to find a common ground with. That’s how you enact positive change on an institutional scale from a distance.

Burning your house down has never been helpful in solving the issue of a leaky roof.

In Tonia's eyes, a "proper" marriage is one where both parties well and truly love each other. Anything short of that isn't a real marriage and thus doesn't count as anything but a transactional sort of arrangement at best.

Which is to say, there's nothing emotional or meaningful in such a relationship—no reason to dwell on it with any actual seriousness or even sincerity, depending. It's like saying you're going to start a diet and then not doing that - insignificant and forgettable, a decision with no weight, and therefore, one is free to consider such a one-sided or lacking arrangement as something to brush aside with or without meaning for oneself.

Now, if this were a matter between two partners well and truly in a romance - well, in that case, Tonia would be very thoughtful.

I don't see the whole "born in the wrong body" as much more than a simpler way of trying to encapsulate the feeling of body horror that can come with being gender dysphoric. It's a metaphor for trans pain, we aren't always literally saying what you're hearing.

I think it can be important to make this known because so many people are misinterpreting trans pain. Gender dysphoria is a very complex and nuanced issue, and it's a state of being that's case-by-case. The "born in the wrong body" statement is a simple way of communicating the angst of being gender dysphoric, and I really wish people focused on alleviating that angst rather than going, "well you weren't born in the wrong body, that's impossible! Stop feeling that way!"

Elbert Greetia - Ch. 22 - Romantic Route Quick Quip

Context: Elbert, Kate, Roger and Alfons are visiting Elbert’s family grave site. Elbert decided to bury some of the things he’s collected over the years at his parent’s graves. Afterwards, Kate, Roger and Alfons give Elbert some space, so he can speak to his parents. When he’s finished, he meets up with Kate……

Kate: Can I ask what you talked about?

Elbert: Just….

Elbert: Just….I wanted us to live together. 

Elbert: Even if our relationship hurt each other just by being beside one another. 

Kate: Oh.

For a moment the back of my eyes became hot, but I endured it.

Because Lord Elbert’s voice did not sound like he was lamenting the unchangeable past.

Elbert: But….I guess it was too painful for them.

Elbert: I couldn’t give up living and being happy no matter what. 

Elbert: Is this also the curse of greed?

Elbert: If that’s the case…..

Hello anyone reading this. I’ve been away for a few months to focus more on school, and then that turned into focusing more time on myself. Some thinking lead me to believe that I need to rebalance things in my life to be healthier and more productive. So that being said, I’ll prolly be somewhat sparse on here.
