I'd like to thank the INCREDIBLY talented @chloescuriouscats for this glorious representation of my rescue cat, Poppy! I was very lucky to win the competition to have a cat portrait drawn for me, and Chloe did an absolutely bang up job of capturing Poppy's squiffy lip! I rescued Poppy after she had been trapped behind a computer, wrapped in cables, in an office 13 years ago; the staff found her after the two week christmas break. I already had two tabbies who were both rescued, so it seemed like a no-brainer to take her home! She was in a bad way, but @catsprotection helped me nurse her back to health, which included several operations on her jaw and teeth removal. After a campaign to find a potential owner was unsuccessful, naturally, I had to keep her! 🐱 I also still have Molly, my other tabby, and they enjoy each other's company very much! 7. What do you love most about being a fic writer for your fandom?

I love how small the fandom is, weirdly enough!!

For example, I've got one Harry Potter one-shot (from before I cut myself off from the fandom) and 31 works for Ranger's Apprentice, and my one HP fic has slightly less than twice the counts of my top RA fic and almost 4x as many kudos. But my top-performing RA fic is The Ward Ghost, a multi-chap, which inflates the number of hits and comments and all that, so let's compare my HP fic to my top RA one-shot.

My HP fic has roughly 5x the hits, 4x the kudos and twice the comments my best-performing RA one-shot does. And, y'know, I dashed off that HP fic in a day and uploaded it for a lark, but I've worked really hard on my RA ones, and sometimes it hurts seeing my HP fic up there as my most popular by almost every metric (the one exception is comments - but again, it's a one-shot, and I get the most comments on multi-chaps).

And that's simply the law of large numbers. HP is a massive fandom, so it's always going to do better on those raw metrics than RA. BUT, because RA is a small fandom, I see the same names in my comments again and again! I look forward to seeing juicingbeetles and flames-rise-high and quirkycat and fairy527 and flamesandpages in my comments on new chapters, or thinking "oh ho ho they'll love this" when I upload them. I can't name a single commenter on my HP fic, but I've got actual fans and dedicated readers for RA and it just makes it so much more special! Whenever I start getting discouraged that I'll never write anything as "popular" (according to raw data) as my HP fic it helps that I can remember the numerous people who are always excited for my RA ones and I feel like that's the sort of thing I can't really get in a large fandom, because it's harder to get to know everyone in a large fandom
