Ramin Djawadi - Pacific Rim 2013

Pacific Rim is the tumblr-favourite 2013 American science fiction monster film directed by Guillermo del Toro, starring Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Ron Perlman. The film is set in the future, when Earth is at war with the kaiju, colossal sea monsters which have emerged from an interdimensional portal on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. To combat the monsters, humanity unites to create the Jaegers, gigantic humanoid mechas, each controlled by two co-pilots whose minds are joined by a mental link.

The film's score was composed by Ramin Djawadi, with guest musician Tom Morello featuring on several tracks. The orchestra for the soundtrack consisted of over 100 musicians. Guillermo del Toro selected Djawadi based on his work on Prison Break, Iron Man, and Game of Thrones, stating: "His scores have a grandeur, but they have also an incredible sort of human soul." The soundtrack peaked at number 7 on the US Billboard Top Soundtracks.

So I was reminded that today is the 5th anniversary of the universally hated Game of Thrones series finale and here's a friendly reminder that the only good thing to come out of that mess was from the brilliant Ramin Djawadi who in the end gave us J/B shippers this amazing gift. I am eternally grateful to him for this.

God, Alicent's green dress theme is such a good piece of music and it makes me so damn sad. It's obviously about Alicent stepping into the role of Queen and turning against Rhaenyra for her lies, but it's also a betrayal of who Alicent is as a person. She's not a cold, cruel queen and she hates herself for pretending that she is.

And then in season 2 we've got Bear the Burden Alone, which is the same song but darker and more twisted, before transitioning to a mournful but slightly hopeful string piece. To me it represents how Alicent's role is falling apart and she's struggling to keep pretending, and by the end of the Season she's done hiding who she is and does what she wants and has to do.

The Crown of Jaehaerys is such a good example of how well Ramin Djawadi composes music that suits the overarching narrative while adding to the worldbuilding and instilling the story within you before you witness it.

The track starts somber, builds upto the vocalization that just strikes you and then moves to this almost epic but moreso grounded and inspiring section and it slowly builds down melancholy again to silence.

Like, that is exactly what we need from Jaehaerys' theme. For all the great king he was, for all the good he did the realm, for all the children he bore and people he helped he was also mysoginistic.

But he is the product of how the Targaryens deeply adopted the faith and doomed themselves because of how they treated their women. For all the good he did he also ended up picking Viserys over Rhaenys. I have zero doubt that Rhaenys wouldn't have been a good ruler. She should have been queen.

Jaehaerys got the crown because his sister, Rhaena, was robbed of it, his grand father got the crown because Visenya was robbed of it. There is nuance here but the brother-sister marriage thing between the elder siblings stems down to, the men must rule but we must not seem like we are discrediting the women. It's clear in the remarks he makes to Alysanne and in how he started referring to Aemon as his heir despite Daenerys being the eldest that he has the same mindset.

And that undid the Targaryens. They argued against the rightful heir and put the younger brother on the throne because of his gender and Jaehaerys picking Viserys did nothing but add to their arguements against Rhaenyra. The dance was a product of women being robbed for time immemorial and children and bystanders paying for it the most.

It will never not be funny to me how HBO always portrays the Targaryens in ways that force us to feel sad/empathetic to them, as if they're the tragic martyrs of the story. When Daenerys died the most sad soundtrack in the world was playing in the background and I was just watching that like: oh, am i supposed to feel sad right now? This woman just burned thousands of inoccents with no remorse and I should feel... sad... because SHE died?

I already can see Ramin Djawadi making the saddest soundtracks for moments when something bad happens to the targs in HOTD season 2 and I know i'll be watching that shit rolling my eyes, "oh no, the inbred corrupt monarchs are being killed, the tragedy 😭 oh and now their nuclear bombs shaped like flying lizards that they use for terrorizing and destroying entire cities are dying too noooo thats too much violence 😭 XD

Ramin Djawadi - Game of Thrones - Main Title Theme 2011

Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama television series, with 73 episodes spanning over eight seasons. It is an adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire, a series of fantasy novels by George R. R. Martin. The series follows several story arcs throughout the course of the show, with the first major arc concerning the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros through a web of political conflicts among the noble families either vying to claim the throne or fighting for independence from whoever sits on it.

Ramin Djawadi composed the series's music, with reoccurring themes for each of the major houses and some main characters. The music for the show has won a number of awards, including a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Music Composition for a Series in 2018 and 2019. Djawadi said he intended to capture the overall impression of the show with the theme tune. Cello is featured strongly as show creators Benioff and Weiss wanted to avoid the flutes or solo vocals found in many other productions in the fantasy genre so as to give the show a distinctive sound, and Djawadi chose cello as the main instrument for the music as he thought it has a "darker sound" that suited the show. The title music is reprised as a global theme in the soundtracks for the series. "Game of Thrones Theme" is also played during the title sequence of the prequel series House of the Dragon.

Truly remember when everyone was telling fic writers to stop putting Rains of Castamere in their fics because HOTD happens 100+ years till Tywin Lannister wages his propaganda campaign- but Ramin Djawadi just went.... and did it.... I get the HOTD score is non diagetic and I am not complaining but I went it would be so unserious if we played the Rains theme and we did 20 seconds later.. like did we not have the budget to write the Lannisters a different theme? ... no? This is good? Okay I guess?
