Just found out Robin and Steve's Epic Platonic Soulmate Mixtape got uploaded to Scribd without my permission 😞 just to be clear I only upload fics to Tumblr and ao3, both under the name Findafight! I'm going to try to figure out how to report it and get it taken down. I know I'm not the only stranger things fics writer who has had their fics uploaded there. It sucks! Hopefully we can report and get them taken down.

It’s WIP Wednesday, time for a little accountability, sharing your work, and getting a kick in the pants.

El scrunched her brows together before she shook her head. “No. I will. I want to cheer with you.” She smiled. “It is more fun with somebody with you, right?”

Steve beamed at her. “Yeah. It sure is.” he stuck his tongue out at Robin and Max. “At least El is willing to keep the faith with me.”

Robin laughed out a groan. “Oh my god! I cannot believe how you’ve tricked the school into thinking you’re cool.”

He smirked and shrugged with one shoulder while he batted his eyelashes. “What can I say? I’m charming.”

Robin and the girls burst into hysterical giggles, laughing more when they each looked at each other or caught sight of Steve trying to pout while holding back his own laughter.

Ya I know I said the next chapter was going to be on time but then the spirit of baseball possessed me so it's gonna be a minute

Oh yeah, in my head Robin’s coming out swiftly derails into an argument between her and her Mom because “you would disown me, don’t even try to pretend-“

I love the idea of Steve discovering she’s a Summer of love baby and uttering the phrase (or mimicking Melissa calling her a “love child”) when he wants to to shut up.

I also like to imagine, that as exams are coming up, Steve starts coming over and doing Robin’s chores for her in an effort to maximise the time they can spend together. Robin’s parents are convinced that she has bullied him into this somehow and, while initially impressed with her, are getting sick of coming into the kitchen to see Steve trying to pretend he wasn’t washing dishes two seconds ago.

Also, I know you’re a fan of Hop adopting Steve, but hear me out; Robin’s parents occasionally stand in for Steve’s (hospital etc) and Richard amuses himself by telling people they’re Irish twins (he makes himself laugh and that’s what matters). A couple of times he refers to them as “the twins” to Melissa, but it’s when he refers to them as “my twins” in conversation with someone that knows he only has one kid he realises - they kinda have two kid now.

Alternatively, they’re eating dinner, there’s an argument and when Steve buts in at the wrong moment Melissa or Robert automatically (bc they were expecting it to be Robin who was going to argue back) snap “go to your room!”

And Steve, looking out upon, gathers his plate and his glass and without hesitating takes his dinner to eat in Robin’s room (or the guest room, is their house is big enough).

Robin’s only reaction to yell “You’re 19 you Dingus, they can’t boss you around like that anymore!”

Robin arguing with her mom that she would hav totally disowned her and Melissa going "I'd only disown you if you joined the military and committed more war crimes that normal!! and even then it's iffy!! We just wanted you to feel safe!!" while Steve (moral support for Robin) and Mr. Buckley stand off to the side.

Mr. Buckley walking in of Steve looking like he got caught with his hand in the cookie jar but he's actually vacuuming the drapes(have never been vacuumed before bc that's a rich people thing to do) is so funny. when asked why he's doing them for her if she didn't blackmail him or something he says "because if I do them when she's at school then she doesn't have to do them and we have more time to hang out 🥺" a la patrick "wait fo you to get back" star.

Listen okay. I am actually a fan of a cold war happening in Hawkins between a select group of adult who are all vying for being seen as parental figures to steve. Hop, Claudia Henderson and the Sinclairs (they're a team), and the Buckleys are all glaring at each other and inviting Steve for dinner and asking if he needs anything. they all think they have the Most Claim over the role lol. Steve is unaware of why everytime he says he's having dinner with Hop Mrs. Henderson invites him over a few days later, or that he says Mrs. Buckley showed hi how to troubleshoot a clogged or leaky sink Hop suggests they go fishing the next weekend, or why Richard Buckley offered to teach him his Nonna's tiramisu recipe when told Sue Sinclair baked date squares with him....

I don't really think steve and robin having a very sibling-like relationship but a few people half-jokingly calling them the twins is funny. like it's their Team Name. they aren't siblings but they're twins do you see this. Will and El are THEE Wonder Twins but Steve and robin are the ""wonder twins"" am i making sense.

Totally with you on a) the defintion of shipping and b) that it would not be narratively satisfying to have the show go in the Will and Mike get together direction, for all the reasons you listed.

The dialogue around it also makes it nearly impossible to find meta or even just discussions around Mike that don't centre the possibility of a romantic relations with Will and it's so frustrating. I love that little guy and I just want to talk about how much he loves his friends!

But then the first thing I created for this fandom was a byler breakup fic so... I'm probably not in the majority.

Ah thank you! Yeah. The series is grounded in the friendship the party has. That's the first thing we learn about them. It feels insulting to both the characters and anyone who likes the non romantic aspects of relationships when people insinuate that Will couldn't have a happy ending without dating Mike. (Mike doesn't owe Will a romantic relationship. Will doesn't owe Mike one!! It also feels insulting that people say there's going to be a time skip and I guess Will is still pining for him? Let him let go at that point Sheesh.).

The basis of any romantic relationship, especially in canon, between Will and Mike (or any party members) is a deep and strong friendship. Acting like those aren't as important is so rude to people and mischaracterizes them. Mike Wheeler loves his friends so much he would jump off a cliff for any of them. He would deny their death with the barest shred of illogical proof even when presented with a body. He would try to contact a girl for almost a year to see if she was still alive. He holds his friend's hand when it seems he's fading away, insists on going into danger to help with a distraction, and apologizes better to a friend than his girlfriend. He's a moody, angsty teenager, going through a lot of emotions and confusion, and can be an asshole even to his friends, but my god what are you doing if you deny Mike's platonic relationships mean everything to him.

It's also disregarding Will's relationships too! Like. El is his sister now!! You cannot separate that. Would Will want to date Mike even? Loving and wanting to date are different. Dating a sister's ex? Legit so many arguments are just saying El doesn't love Mike, and I guess implying she wouldn't give a shit if Mike stsrted dating a friend that became a brother who is also the only one as deeply connected to the Upside Down as her. It gives me the vibes of people like...taking away the agency El has in her own feelings and saying she loves Mike.

Maybe he just wants to be able to honest about his feelings. Get them off his chest. Keep his friendship with Mike but have everything out in the open, and they can work through that together. Strengthen their friendship and maybe be open to potentially dating in the future (there is an apocalypse on!) while also strengthening their friendship with El. So many people just. Ignore her and her feelings in all this, as though both Will and Mike have not showed they valued her feelings greatly. Why would that not factor in at all? Why would Will put his sister into that position? Would it not be awkward for Mike too?

That's why it wouldnt be satisfactorily executed in S5. The characters and the audience need time to process any breakup between El and Mike. Let them cool off and us register it. Another anon said if they were going blr canon route they should have ended mlvn in S4, and I agree. It needs Breathing room. Not just them breaking up and a two year time skip where we're told time has passed but for us it feels like nothing, so the impact isn't the same and it doesn't have the same satisfaction of knowing they've worked it out but just being told about it. If that makes sense?

Plus the series has struggled with ending romo relationships, and the only one starting that wasn't awkward or weird (Both Nancy and Jon AND Joyce and Hop have Murray be the catalyst which annoying and kinda lazy, not to mention the cheating) was Lucas and Max. That doesn't paint a picture of confidence in me. Sometimes a ship going canon is not actually good. Sometimes in fandom you are actually thankful a ship that honestly should have been canon by the end, or at least post-series didn't, because whatever the show runners would have done with it would have probably ruined whatever dynamic that made them compelling in the first place. it may feel like a betrayal or rip off at first, and would likely continue to, but with time comes a feeling of oh. Maybe it's better this way... Would come.

So yes. Seeing how people reacted to me simply saying that, by the end of the series, I don't think it could satisfyingly become canon, while prioritizing their relationships with each other, Not a lot of nuance is allowed, it seems. Though I'm sure many shippers are cool and chill, it's really just a few people who are loud about it that try to inhibit discussion or meta, it's a damn shame that the only discussion allowed to those shippers is when or how it will be canon. Where's the fun in that? Everyone can interact with fandom differently, and it's a shame some folks want to dictate how others do so.

Ok so RE the Eddie book that’s coming out. Not into it, won’t read it, haven’t purposefully looked into but I keep seeing other people talk about it. If I understand the basic premise correctly, some music lady sees a high school band and is trying to get them to move to LA to do music stuff? And there’s flirting? Eddie is supposed to be 17 or 18 and there’s an adult woman flirting with a high schooler?!

He’s a super talented guitarist…like dude learned master of puppets by ear in a couple weeks… but some random music producer hears a high school band in bumfuck nowhere and is into it? Yeah sure makes sense yep 🙃

This book has majorly weird vibes and also seems like it’s gonna be like a super bummer. Ugh. Just needed to get this rant out to someone!

see the thing about the books is that i consider them half-canon. anything we don't see directly or implied on screen isn't truly canon for stranger things, and while I do take somethings as little supplemental bits of canon (scoops troop playing DnD to cheer up Erica, Robin's past friendship with Barb, maybe even Joyce being mad at Steve for the demodog in the fridge...) as a whole I don't care about them lol. like they had Lucas, for whatever reason, worried that simply playing basketball would turn Steve back into a jerk (despite Steve being on the basketball team when he helped the party in s2??)

So with the Eddie book coming out...... I simply do not care. There are so many ways the book could have gone, and I just.... Think it's not worth the effort to think about i guess. why are they giving us creepy older lady hitting on a highschooler? idk who knows. To show he isn't a cringefail loserboy? Why are they giving us an Eddie book at all?

I do think it's VERY funny that they're trying to push him and some random girl we haven't seen before as his "Platonic Soulmate" instead of giving us Stobin content (unless it's the singular girl in that one hellfire group photo in which case I will admit I have also made her Eddie's queer bestie in RaSEPSM but not to the level of our girlies) because they want to capitalize on that dynamic without letting us see Robin or Steve again.... :(

“What, no, you’re the only other person I’ve met willing to, like, acknowledge it.”

Steve looked confused. “What about the— your him.” he made an effort to drop his voice even lower than it was.

Eddie Snorted. “What part of I have shit taste did you not get?”

Steve winced. “So he, like. Kissed you and stuff? But then, what? Said “Just kidding!” like that makes it not count?”

He groaned. This was embarrassing, and Eddie never thought he would be admitting to it to Steve Harrington of all people. “More like…” he sighed, and stared up at the stars. “More like he would call me names after kissing me, like it was all my idea or he had caught me doing something, instead of him being the guy that pushed me against a tree and shoved his tongue in my mouth.”

“Ew.”

“Yeah. He fucking sucked, dude. Not even the fun way.”
