There are a lot of great moments and panels in HGSN but my absolute favourite would have to be

He's not trying to think rationally, he doesn't try to play dumb or brush it off. All he can think of is this echoing question and all he can feel is fear. It's kill or be killed, this is going to change his reality in a way he's not ready for and he cannot take that chance. He's just a boy, why can't he just be a boy for a little while longer?

I’ve heard a bunch of people say that Duck should get a “revelation” of his own, seeing as Red Guy got his in the original short films and Yellow Guy got his in the TV series. However, this tends to overlook the fact that he actually already had his realization at the end of DHMIS 5—he just happened to die before anything could actually come of it. And the entire reason he has that moment of clarity

is because Red Guy was gone. and he missed him

I really like this post and want to elaborate on one of the points.

Our dear Childe in his desire to protect childhood ability to dream in his younger brother is setting him up for a level of disappointment similar to one he himself experienced.

Which is the opposite of what he wants and exactly the thing that a lot of people do when they want to avoid something too badly (they behave exactly in the way that would attract it).

I think Dazai, while young, became attached to Natsume when Natsume was lonely and so was he (which is why he calls him Sensei in the Dark Era, like the protagonist in Kokoro); that Natsume brought Dazai to Mori after Dazai attempted suicide (which is why Dazai never touches him in Bar Lupin, why Natsume follows him from the Port Mafia to his meeting with Taneda and then to the Agency, why Dazai knows Natsume well enough to allude to his history to Tanizaki and to recieve the jump drive Natsume brings him in the Cannibalism arc— Dazai knows him); and that Natsume performed a partial skill transfer similar to Kyouka's mother to ensure it could not come that close ever again (and that's why Dazai is one of the few if not only touch/contact-based skill users whose is involuntary).

I think No Longer Human isn't merely nullification, I think (similar to how Bram's skill reverses death but through the framework of vampirism and Atsushi's slices skills and regenerates in addition to his transformations), there is more to Dazai's skill such that it precludes him from dying (which is why he can stand in front of a hail of bullets and be thrown by Chuuya through several buildings in the Port Mafia, why he can't seem to commit suicide successfully, why Kunikida and Chuuya remark on his preternatural inability to die, why Dazai says to both Atsushi and Fyodor with such certainty "you can't kill me," and, cheekily, why Kunikida tells Dazai in 55 Minutes "You're no longer human! You've lost that right!" when Dazai says he finally managed to die, however briefly).

I think Natsume's skill bends reality in the shape of the narrative structure over which he had such mastery and he decided that whoever he failed to snatch from the cyclical jaws of misery and suicide before (again, borrowing from Kokoro), he would not let this boy die; and how cruel that must have felt at first (which is why Dazai hates pain— he's been denied the easiest escape from it that he knows), but how reality bent to weave a narrative such that Dazai could be saved again and again in such a way that might shatter Koroko's inescapable loneliness (this is why, in 55 Minutes, it's implied HG Wells might not have existed, might have been an apparition from an earlier era, as if reality itself rippled space and time to reconjure someone who made sense to protect Dazai when it seemed unlikely anyone else could; why Akutagawa happened to have business there; why Akutagawa and Atsushi happened to cross paths).

It's well known that the titular cat in I Am a Cat is a calico. But, the story was based on Natsume's IRL cat, who was a black, striped cat. And aren't Dazai's bandages a little like stripes?

To say that Kakashi and Gai’s relationship (talking solely platonic rn) was mostly about him helping Kakashi cope with the loss of Obito is disingenuous to Kakashi and all of his relationships.

Any person is going to be traumatized after seeing someone — much less their teammate — be crushed to death under a rock. Kakashi is shown to be someone susceptible to depression due to 1. His environment 2. His initial beliefs and 3. His genetic line. Of course his life is going to be centered around one of the most traumatic experiences of his life, romanticizing it is so hurtful to his character because it destroyed him - and if Kishimoto actually cared about expanding other character relationships instead of making a “generational duo that falls apart” + wasn’t a misogynistic writer, Rin’s death would be the bigger influence on his life than Obito’s.

Yes, Gai had to help him numerous times in his grief but it wasn’t solely or even mainly about Obito. Rin was an absolute vital point in Kakashi’s downfall into chaos. The self harm he inflicted upon himself, the self hatred, the self shame. He became a whole different person after he was forced to kill her. I would say Kakashi’s father Sakumo is by far the biggest influence on him. He wouldn’t have needed any speech of “your father was a hero” by Obito if it wasn’t for Sakumo. His personality of today is thanks to his father’s own death.

Gai and Kakashi’s friendship is almost entirely about them when they’re in scenes together. Look at the chunin exams, look at any scene in the land of steam arc, look at their race, etc. naturally there will be grief the two bring to the relationship and it’s on them to work it out separately, together and with other people which did happen.

You’re actively ignoring every other character that has shaped and formed who Kakashi is by saying Obito is the biggest and only reason he is who he is. Gai is one of the strongest reasons why Kakashi is as motivated and strong as he is. Kakashi would’ve absolutely died at some point in (general) anbu if Gai didn’t pull him out and he was slipping so far when he was in it because of Rin and Minato.

Kakashi’s heart does not “belong” to Obito because he’s in love with Obito and can’t get over him, his heart belongs to the people he loves because that’s who Kakashi is at his core - a lover. He’s a person who cares so deeply, even for people he doesn’t necessarily like or get along with.

Kakashi is a person who is shaped by everybody in his life, that’s why he is one of the best written Naruto characters. He feels like a real person because real people are influenced by everyone in their life, in every way. It’s unfortunate to see those who call themselves Kakashi fans only to mischaracterize, limit and erase the bonds he was written to have to prop up one single bond for your ship.

Do you care for this character? His themes, parallels, relationships and writing? or is he just a placeholder / self insert for shipping content?

Name: Juliette Ferrars (ikik bear with me here ill explain it later)

Age: 17 (first book)

Looks: dark brown, long hair; blue eyes; 160 cm tall; slim body

Backstory: Alright so basically I am Evie Sommers little experiment. She took her DNA (and maybe someone elses? idk havent figured that part out yet) and made a clone baby more or less to experiment on for the whole powers / gift part. I grew up alongside Ella and Emmaline (and the other kids) even tho they never knew where I came from or basically anything of what Evie was doing. Evie also wiped my mind regularly to keep me from telling anyone what she was doing (this is ofc pre-takeover so she had to keep it quiet) which is basically perfecting her methods to ensure Emmaline (who is her main target as we know) has the best possible chance of survival. After the takeover, Evies plan was to kill me but seeing how quickly Emmaline was deteriorating she decided to keep me alive, mind wiped and put me into a foster family (basically what happened to Ella too). Fast forward to my highschool years (my foster family is in the US for plot reasons (plot=aaron warner)) where my powers accidentally kill my classmate cos he was a creep and touching me (i couldnt think of a better reason for my powers to lash out, if you have one tell me pls) and i get put into the asylum. Ella doesnt get put into the asylum, instead she gets rescued by / escapes to Omega Point. anyway after that the plot is mostly the same except i take Ellas place. Ella still gets the alias Juliette Ferrars but I for some reason dont get an alias? idk. Thats it mostly haha if you have questions feel free to ask!
