hear me out: the manhattan boys are canonically wimpy little shits.

like ok. look at how romeo pounds his fist in the first clip, and how buttons does in the second clip. ZERO power. don't even get me started on smalls, what are you doing my love.

ive seen people talk about this before but jojo baby, what kind of 'ready' stance is that? his legs are so wide, he kind of reminds me of a red panda trying to make itself look bigger when it's threatened. he's undoubtedly the worst, but the other boys' stances arent much better.

so yeah. point is, they're inexperienced, they think they're tough, but they are most definitely not. our favourite manhattan boys don't know how to fight, but thankfully managed to recruit some guys who actually do!

this got me thinking though, why are the manhattan boys so wimpy then?

theyve got the hudson, east, and harlem rivers doing their work for them, the borders of their turf are clearly defined

but brooklyn? they don't have that luxury, as they share a massive border with queens. they're bound to get into more conflicts, either newsies pushing their luck with selling across the border, or full on turf wars.

brooklyn newsies are a completely different breed, because they have to be.

i Think (i know) . jack and spot are able to get along so well together because they were just two kids who accidentally made big names and reputations to themselves & they feel the need to live up to them. hes jack “cowboy” kelly who was making daring and dangerous escapes from the refuge and never too afraid to talk back to snyder if he deemed something wrong & shes Spot Conlon the girl who’s known for being the toughest person in the city. they Need to live up to those expectations of being strong & daring for the kids they’re in charge of (and also , party for themselves) . but when they’re together .. they get to let their guard down and be just jack and spot two teenagers who really just deserve a break
