Did the kiddos! Kinda simplified the hair for all of them cause I have trouble drawing hair. Besides that, made Joule’s ear markings bigger and added one to her tail to look similar to her siblings’ redesigns, and gave Coro and Taima little scarves along with some other edits!
OH GOODNESS THEY LOOK SO FREAKIN CUTE!!!
I'm so sorry that Taima and Joule's hair is hard to draw, it will happen again LMAO
I really love the colors on Taima! I know when I first designed her, I had a hard time implementing shiny Pikachu with shiny Dewott, but you did it so wonderfully, I really really like it!
AND THEIR FLUFF, OH MY GOODNESS, YOU HIT MY WEAKSPOT!!! I also love how Joule has little cheek fluff to match her siblings' whiskers, very nice touch!

Gooliope Jellington: Sweet Screams Edition (October 2022)

Base Doll: Gooliope Jellington (Monster High G1)
Clothing Pattern: https://www.etsy.com/listing/265925128/carrolls-muse-dress-sewing-pattern-pdf?click_key=eb0f8b19429e89cab0b606c33a3316fc28733c91%3A265925128&click_sum=be6105e4&ref=shop_home_active_6
Sprinkles: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1281595779/fake-far-out-rainbow-mix-fake-sprinkles?transaction_id=3147439983
Caramel Popcorn:
Gooliope is one of my favorite Monster High characters, and Sweet Screams is one of my favorite lines. So it should come as no surprise that when a collab group opened up for redesigning the MH characters to fit your style, I was excited to partake! This is my first time working with a 17 inch doll, and it posed an interesting challenge! I gotta say, I loved working on a bigger face! I have another Gooliope, Draculaura, and Maddie Hatter of this size in my stock, to hopefully one day we'll do a project this large again. The trick is, it's gotta be a doll I'll want to have out all the time, since they're hard to store. So far this is the case for this one, she's so pretty, I don't see myself storing her too often. XD
My vision for this project was to deck her out in carnival sweet treats. Gooliope is a circus ghoul after all, so it stands to reason that those would be up her alley. I went with pink and blue on her hair and the ribbon details to represent cotton candy, there are buttons made of polymer clay that look like lollipops, and while it's hard to see, her heels are candy apples. She's decked out with a bunch of fabric paint to hold on the sprinkles and look like dripping icing, and then you have my favorite detail, the headband. You can't have a carnival without funnel cake, and adding a little chocolate ripple to it? And sprinkles? Oh man, -chef's kiss- perfection. The sprinkles were honestly a highlight for me. I normally don't use pieces from other crafters in my work, but when I wanted to add caramel corn to her apron (my other favorite piece next to the face), I figured hey, why not? Also, it's hard to see, but I added a bit of a color shifting glaze on her eyes before glossing them, and it's super pretty in person. Gosh, it is hard not to stare at her, I love her SO MUCH.

✮ ━ top three favorite muses that you’ve played
Mun related symbols! Accepting!
Across my whole RP history? All 7 years? good lordt okay
In no particular order:
Tumblr media
Magnet Man - Mega Man 3 (Megamix manga canon)
Mags is 1) my favorite Robot Master 2) a major comfort character of mine and 3) the canon character I've written the longest. I've spent a many good years developing him and fighting for him, and I can say with a lot of pride that I'm the longest lasting Magnet Man writer I've seen on Tumblr. Seven years!!! I'm currently taking a break from the fandom but I can feel my MM muses returning, so I'm very excited to pick things back up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Moon Woman/Cosmic Moonfall - Mega Man/Mega Man X OC
My baby girl. Moon's been with me for 11 years now; I made her when I was 10 and she's lasted throughout my entire RP history, and long before then. I have countless AUs for her and have poured so much blood, sweat and tears into her, some of those being very literal sweat and tears (thankfully no blood yet!). She means the world to me, and nearly every fandom I've touched I've left a piece of her there. She's been through several rewrites and redesigns and I am finally, finally happy to say I've found a story for her main verse that I'm proud of, after 11 years of development and growing up alongside me. I can't wait to share her with you all through Yingyue and Meiyu!
Tumblr media
Jing Yuan - Honkai Star Rail
Of course I have to include my current brainrot!! Fuck you for clocking me on the nose like that, firstly. That was so rude. "There's someone in the third world who's going to be your favorite, I'm not telling you who it is. You'll know immediately when you see them" like BRO?? THE AUDACITY and you were so correct, I love you so much. You know my taste so well aslkfjsdalfkhaflkhjafsd
Jing Yuan has so many traits that appeal to me so greatly, if I were to list them all we'd be here ALL day so I won't but just know I love him even more than I love Zhongli and that's saying SOMETHING bc you've BEEN there for my zl brainrot
Honorable mentions because you can't keep me at just 3!!!:
Tumblr media
Quick Man - Mega Man 2 (Megamix manga canon)
So initially I picked Quick Man up out of spite, because someone I had a bad history with used to RP him and I went "I bet I could write him better." So I did. What I didn't expect was to actually end up liking him so much!! Quick's a very quiet character who doesn't talk, like, at all. He was actually very challenging for me to write at first because, as you know, I don't shut up. :D
But I've put a lot of time into his development, and I'm really happy with where he's at! I had no idea I'd have so much fun with him. His character even spawned two OCs, both of which are (sort of) on this blog: Quinn's two alts!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Miles Williams/Veturas - OC
I honest to god do not remember if I've shown you that first FC of his. I was so close to actually rping him on Tumblr on god DLAKGFJHADSLKFJHA. His FC is so funny I can't for the life of me remember his name but he comes from an idol manga/anime and there was a gacha game for it too. Absolutely hilarious
You and Jade are the two who know Miles best here, since it was in our server that he got the most development even if it wasn't where he started. He's my third oldest OC and honestly the one I've struggled the most with in terms of striking a balance I was proud of. It's... hard for me to drum up his muse now, thanks to [she-who-shall-not-be-named], and it's a little painful to try to write him, but thankfully Veturas has remained untouched. He's easier to bring out. Despite that, though, I do love Miles very dearly. I miss him a lot; he was my favorite OC for a very long time. I'd like to go back to that time some day, if I can.
Tumblr media
Blues/Proto Man - Mega Man 3 (Megamix manga canon)
Blues was a character I picked up as homage to one of the very first people I met through RP (who I did manage to rekindle contact with!! after 5 years!!!! holy shit!!!!!!!!) because they were the person who'd introduced me to the manga written and drawn by Hitoshi Ariga, as well as the person who introduced me to my most favorite ship in the MM fandom. He's always been a favorite character of mine, but I wasn't expecting his muse to spiral out of control like it did. He's now the origin point for a number of OCs of mine, including one (1) special spooky Elder Dragon hybrid! The theme of people living longer than they should who've peeped the horrors and the evidence lies in their eyes being fucked up looking goes strong here.

Peon To The Analog World
Tumblr media
The email read, “Sorry. Those sweatpants are sold out. Do you want to order another style?”  My answer was, “No.”  But I thanked my friend who’d been willing to use her Nordstrom membership to shop for me electronically. I’d wanted to avoid opening an account of my own with yet another password. Nonetheless, I lusted for those sweatpants. Desperate, I called the local brick-and-mortar store and spoke to a clerk.  She confirmed they didn’t have the style I wanted in the store but there was a pair at their warehouse.  “Eureka!” I cried as if I’d discovered the fountain of youth. Next, I spat out my credit card number. Once again, my landline telephone had triumphed over online shopping.  Success like that one explains why I’m devoted to the analog world. I admit, keeping the faith is a challenge. Retailers and governments eschew real-world connections. Perhaps they have an aversion to paper. That would explain why the IRS breaks into a sweat whenever I ask that my rebate be sent as a check. Direct deposit, they assure me is safer. Charitable organizations have the same aversion. For years, I’ve mailed a contribution to Wikipedia, grateful for their service.  Nowadays, they bury their address deep in the website and reserve prominent space for electronic contributions. Maybe they fear that during the time it takes to write a check, I’ll change my mind. Or, they might suppose that with my credit card on file, I’ll be tempted to make frequent contributions.   Some readers might roll their eyes as they read this confession.  “Come into the real world, Caroline,” they might be thinking.  If so, I would remind them that analog IS the real world.  Digital is its unreliable mirror.  What’s more, beyond lost data, scams, and chatbots, digital technology is creating so many problems that the best and brightest in the industry are scurrying to redesign analog chips in preference to digital. (Back to the Future, “ by  Charles Platt, Wired, May 2023, pg. 84.) Energy Security is their concern: the availability of sufficient electricity at affordable prices.  (“The Age of Energy Insecurity,” by Jason Bordoff and Meghan L. O’Sullivan, Foreign Affairs, May/June 2023, pg. 105)  The digital world is growing exponentially, but the real world hasn’t enough energy to support its growing appetite. How is technology to bridge the gap? One solution would be to shift data storage from the electronic to the analog world. Storing data requires less energy than creating or finding things, which, in a time of conservation, makes the analog chip heaven-sent. But how are the two chips, digital and analog, to interface? That is the question. Technology is pursuing an answer with the fervor of hounds after a wily fox. To everyone’s surprise, algorithms are of no use. Old-fashioned Calculus is what’s needed. Why? Because Calculus describes the real world better. (Wired, pg. 111.)  Even so, programmers face a conundrum akin to what scientists grapple with when they strive to explain how quantum physics and classical mechanics interface. One obstacle is that mathematics is precise while the real world is “muzzy,” as one expert described it.  Not all that’s real seems willing to give up its complexity to a sequence of 0s and 1s,  While we wait for that problem to be solved, we can fret over another—the shortage of rare earth metals. Found in the middle of the periodic table, these elements have a fluorescence that gives them the conductive and magnetic properties vital to chipmaking. China and Russia have abundant supplies of rare earth metals, which, despite being dictatorships, give them leverage over their energy-poor neighbors. (Foreign Affairs, pg. 106-107) Some of these neighbors, like Lithuania, are working to wean themselves off Russia’s energy sources.   Happily, there’s good news for them and the rest of the world because we’re discovering that rare earth metals aren’t rare at all. They lie all around us.  Those mud pies we made as kids might not have been edible, but they’ve gained respect since we’ve learned they contain the elements we need to make the analog and digital connection.  So, here’s to dirt. And here’s to the analog world, in general, otherwise known as reality. So, when I ignore my computer and reach for the phone to order a sweatshirt to match my new sweatpants, let no one smirk.

Chapter 6: Lost
A huge white moon hung above the Manhattan skyline only a few days after your powwow with Tony and Bruce in the nursery. Fall was swiftly turning into winter, but the chill in the air could not stop you from enjoying a quiet walk to the car with your husband. All you had to do was bundle up–coat, scarf, mittens, all–and you would be fine. Besides, you were having too good a time to feel the cold.
“You have got to be kidding me!” you said.
Your cheeks were actually starting to hurt from smiling so much. Who knew dinner out on the town with Bruce could be so grand? You had spent the entire meal discussing possible names for your child, and the subject continued even then as you made your way to your distantly parked car.
“Nu-uh. No. No. We are not naming our kid that,” you went on.
For once, Bruce seemed to be as happy as you were. You were already connected by one hand each, arms swaying beside you, but he neared to bump you affectionately with his shoulder as well.
“I’m not kidding,” he said. “What’s wrong with Eugene?”
“It’s a nerd name!” you cried, following this with a peal of laughter that caused several surrounding pedestrians to stare at you.
He chuckled softly in response. “Are you calling me a nerd?”
“Bruce, you are the biggest nerd I’ve ever met!” You pressed a smiling kiss to his cheek. “And I still married you, didn’t I?”
“But you don’t think anyone would marry Eugene Banner?”
“Ugh! Fine. We’ll consider Eugene. No promises, though.”
“Right. Just like we’ll consider Janice for a girl.”
“It was my grandmother’s name!” But you were already giggling again and Bruce along with you. You didn’t want the night to end, so you pulled him to a stop next to you. “I’ve had a really nice time tonight.”
“Me, too,” he said with a shy smile.
It brought to mind your first date with him. He’d been so nervous and kind that you’d thought you could marry him right then and there, though it took Bruce another year and a half to pop the question. After grinning at each other like a couple of saps for a few seconds more, he led you on your way again.
“Not going to get to do this sort of thing much in a few months, are we?”
“Not unless you want little Eugene driving everyone else in the restaurant crazy,” you said, shaking your head.
“We could get a sitter once he’s old enough.”
“Because every sitter’s dream job is a kid that could bring the house down on a whim.”
“Okay, good point. Maybe Tony, though? Bet he already has a whole floor of the tower redesigned to handle that. You know he hasn’t given up on our family moving in with his.”
“Tony and Pepper wouldn’t be bad,” you mused, “if they’re willing.”
“Trust me. He’d be willing. This is the same man that pays for us to have dates when he feels I haven’t met my monthly quota.”
“He won’t insist on that for a little while, will he? We’ll want to spend some time–”
“Yeah, that’s right. Nice and slow. No sudden movements there, Grandpa, or else I’m liable to blast your face off.”
All of a sudden, Bruce shoved you behind him. The two of you had nearly reached the parking lot he had paid to use that evening; you could see your vehicle under a streetlight ahead. But you couldn’t get there just yet. There were two men blocking your path, one in a ski mask, the other an elderly gentleman shaking like a leaf. You had stumbled into a mugging.
The man in the mask must have heard your abrupt stop, because no sooner had you registered his presence than did he whirl about. You cringed into Bruce’s shoulder. Maybe living in Manhattan should have mentally prepared you for such an event, but now that it was happening, you were honestly frightened. You could not have been in any danger, not with Bruce, and yet why did this have to happen now? The night had been going so well.
“Keep walking,” the mugger snarled, and you saw a glint of silver in his hand as he gestured at the street.
Bruce didn’t move, except to slowly lift his hands into the air.
“I said get moving! Nothing to see here.”
“How about,” said Bruce, in what you teasingly called his “therapist voice,” “you put that gun down before someone gets hurt?”
“How about you keep stepping, Pops, before I have to do the hurting?”
“Trust me. You don’t want to do this.”
For all the serenity in Bruce’s tone, you could feel how truly stiff he had gone. He wasn’t a fighter; that was, he didn’t like to fight. Leaving buildings leveled and bad guys greasy smears on the asphalt wasn’t something he took pleasure in. But he was also a good man, and you knew he wouldn’t leave a scared old person alone just to avoid a fight. Besides, if the mugger took a shot, Bruce wouldn’t have much of a choice in the matter.
The mugger stepped back, almost straight into his intended victim. “You don’t know what I want to do!” he shouted. His shaking hands lifted.
Oh no. You squeezed your eyes shut just in time to hear a massive bang. Again, you flinched into your husband’s shoulders…but they were no longer human shoulders. They expanded beneath your hands. You stumbled backward and onto the cement just in time to see Bruce’s nice shirt rip to shreds as his entire back grew to gargantuan proportions.
Both mugger and victim could only stare in horror at the visage before them. Where a meek-looking man protecting his wife had once stood was now a green behemoth who took one look at them and began to beat his chest. The Hulk let out a roar so tremendous that the pavement beneath you shook.
With one last expletive, the mugger tossed his gun aside and took off in the direction you had been headed when this all began. Unfortunately for him, the Hulk had decided not to take his crap and moved a lot faster than the average human being. Still snarling, he started his pursuit, leaving you alone with the old man and a handful of onlookers several blocks down.
“What in heaven’s name–” the man said tremulously.
Crane his neck as he might, there was nothing left to see of the Hulk or the assailant now. The only sign that what had just happened had really just happened was the sound of distant crashing. You hoped this wouldn’t be another night for Bruce to spend in jail. The police didn’t take kindly to his destroying entire blocks of the city to take care of one criminal most of the time. If Tony wasn’t in town to bail him out, it might take even longer to get Bruce home.
“That was just–my husband,” you said, wincing as you attempted to stand up after having toppled so far as to nearly bump your head against the ground earlier. “He’ll be fine.”
“I can tell,” he said, still eyeing the corner around which the two had disappeared as he walked to you. Once there, he stuck his hand out. “I appreciate the help. Are you all right, ma’am?”
“Fine, thank you.” Your heart-rate was starting to slow a bit, anyway.
You would be able to get into the car once your legs stopped feeling like Jell-O, too, since you were the one with the car keys. In a few minutes, you’d see about calling Tony in to help search for Bruce. Gratefully, you took the man’s offered hand and allowed him to help you to your feet.
Then a tremendous pain shot across your abdomen.
You crumpled back to the cement with a wordless cry. Somewhere above, you heard the man shout “ma’am” again before he ran off . A few seconds later, you heard his voice from far away, shouting “sir, your wife, come back” repeatedly–presumably for Bruce.
You needed Bruce. But you couldn’t hear him destroying things anymore; you couldn’t hear anything but the burbled sobs breaking out of you as you attempted to hold yourself together.
Something was wrong–horribly, terribly, awfully wrong–but you didn’t know what. Your entire lower half throbbed and throbbed and throbbed and throbbed. It felt like you had been torn open. You had never felt this sort of pain before.
Bruce was coming, wasn’t he? You couldn’t continue as you were. You had to be strong for when he arrived.
A pair of hands came down to steady your thrashing head. The face that appeared shortly thereafter did not belong to Bruce. It did not even belong to the gentleman from before. It was another man entirely, younger, with a thin blond mustache, and beyond him you could vaguely see other people watching the show.
“Miss, you have to calm down,” said the man. “You have to tell me what’s the matter. Calm down. Please calm down.”
All you did was shake your head. It hurt. Things were beginning to come together. You wanted to say that you were sorry, but you couldn’t get your lips to shape the words. You gasped through your tears. Just as you did, the man’s eyes traveled down your body–and he paled.
“Good Lord, she’s bleeding. She’s bleeding. Someone call an ambulance!”
He disappeared from your field of vision. You took several deep breaths to try to calm yourself enough to stop moving. This was a vain attempt; your muscles continued to spasm without your telling them to. Everything made the pain worse: moving, breathing, pumping blood.
Where was Bruce? Where was the Hulk, even?
“The ambulance is on its way,” said the man from before as he returned to your sight. “It’s going to be okay. You’re going to be okay.”
You attempted to smile back. That was what you were always expected to do, right? Smile, so that your husband could smile. Surely he was there somewhere in the throng around you. This was the one time you couldn’t manage.
“Bruce?” you whispered, but the man looking after you didn’t answer. Or maybe he did, a little too late. Before you could hear his response, your world went dark, still, and quiet, save for the sound of sirens coming your way.

2021 Art Summary
The time old tradition continues. I’ll be honest; this year was rough. Like, I scraped the bottom of the barrel for most of these months. Very little art was accomplished (or, at least, completed), and I had felt pretty bad about that the last couple months. But, as it turns out, I wasn’t alone in that. Every other artist I’ve seen has said they’ve been in the exact same boat. So I’m glad now that I could do what I could this year. And now, as always, I’ll share my journey through this year with you!
normally i don’t hide these under a readmore but this one kinda got away from me and i wanted to spare your and my dashboards this time
Tumblr media
HEY SO remember when i said i would work on my TOME Fan Animations every day all year? hahaha Yeah That Didn’t Happen I spent like ten days out of the month tops, and in that time I really only worked a little bit on storyboards and got almost all of my character’s talksprites redone. And I do like them! But yeah. I honestly don’t even know what will become of that project, if anything, at this point.
In addition to that, I participated yet again in Gotta Draw ‘Em All on deviantArt with Grookey as my muse. What a lil cutie. Sadly, this was the final event for that group, but I’m glad I was there to contribute to it.
I also continued my TOME server’s art challenge tradition of making a TOMERPG character from scratch, and Zeitgeist was born. I just think it’s got a cool design :>
Also! New thing I’m doing for this summary: some WIPs! because I did a lot of them and I’m upset that I didn’t ever get to finish them! So to kick it off here’s one that began in January and was last updated in June: a “six fanarts” part three exclusively for cute girls
Tumblr media
okay let’s continue
Tumblr media
i’ll tell you right now that this year is comprised of a lot of sketches because digital art was too hard or too time- or energy-consuming, so i tried to make them look really nice this time
This was the height of my Genshin fever, and the only prescription was playing it more and finally attempting to draw and write some stuff with it. Razor was the first actual character I drew, mainly cuz I love him lots, but also cuz I thought his design would lend well to my style. I also made myself a Genshin sona, as well as ones for Michael and Val (not shown cuz i couldn’t get a design figured out for Val at all): Raven (me) is a Hydro sword user, Michael is an Anemo bow user, and Val is a Pyro claymore user. Wanted to try my hand at making my own Genshin-esque designs after having lots of opinions on the actual characters and doing a bunch of edits on some of them.
Tumblr media
My Pokemon 25th anniversary pic was late, so it goes in here. I had such a fun time emulating Sugimori’s modern art style... even if it took forever to do.
Also Astra (my nb genshin traveler) got a redesign and I still haven’t made a proper ref for it. But they do look a lot cooler. I drew them at work :>
Tumblr media
I wanted to draw more genshin, so I asked for genshin to draw, and I attempted only one. but Venti was a good one. Got into Montero (Call Me By Your Name) too much and got Val vibes, and also watched Queer ✨ too much and loved the bisexual lighting in the third act too much, so. yeah. mix em together and that’s what i got And in a twist of fate, Tales of Lostclan re-entered my brain space because The Creator Found My Post and contacted me about it and we started chatting and it was great so I drew a Pepperpaw gijinka and named him Aiden.
Another WIP I wanted to share was my sketch for another TOME server art challenge, with Zetto in the Zero Escape universe. I really liked the prompt but again, digitization was my enemy this year.
Tumblr media
moving on!
Tumblr media
These are literally the only two things that happened this month. And they were both pretty late in. Drawing Diluc is easy to explain; I love him and wanted to try and draw him. The other one is much more interesting.
My friend @mew-cake started reading To Your Eternity (which later on in the year became an anime), and I enjoyed the bits and pieces she liveblogged. She posted something along the lines of “i wish i could write a story like this” and i was like Hell Yes let’s do it together. So we got to work, making a story I tentatively call Spirit of the Earth about an angel wanting to learn what life on Earth is like so it lives first as a tree, then a bird, then a cat, and then a variety of different humans. My recent fascination with philosophy and the themes Cake found within To Your Eternity inspired us to think on lots of aspects of life and love and hurt, and it was kinda beautiful. We should revisit it sometime.
i lied kind of, i really wanted to get this picture of Xiao done too. but i did not. here is the sketch tho
Tumblr media
and even though we were working on one original story, at the very end of the month, there was another idea coming together...
Tumblr media
SURPRISE, IT’S A DIFFERENT ORIGINAL STORY. It’s okay, we didn’t expect this either, but it happened anyway.
Cake had been saying that it would be cool for the two of us to be cast as anime rivals, and I was like yeah that would be cool. And then I had the most massive shower thought on that and it spiraled into this story premise. As much as I would love to completely gush about this new story, I wanna still keep most of it under wraps, so I’ll give a basic rundown. The two main characters, the “anime rivals” as they were initially, are Roxy (red/sketch) and Lalun (blue/full color), who have the powers of the Sun and the Moon respectively. In a world full of alchemical magic where many people control elements based on the solar system, Roxy and Lalun are two special cases and they’re being forced to fulfill a cosmic destiny for reasons largely unknown to them. Other characters here include: Alex (purple/sketch) who has the powers of Venus, which in this world corresponds with electricity; and Oliver (green/full color) who has the powers of Saturn, which are oriented with gravity control and telekinesis. These kids all go to school together and get into horrible situations against their will (and even at their will, sometimes). So all in all, it’s a time :3
One day we’ll show off all of our art for this, but for now, I’ll just give ya all the good stuff I did.
ALSO. WIP TIME BECAUSE I AM SO UPSET I NEVER REMEMBERED TO FINISH THIS. I liveblogged about SK8 The Infinity around this time too, and I loved it, and I drew parallels between the two main characters of that show with my two main OCs from The Dark Side: War on Destiny. So I drew Reki and Kyle together being cool bros
Tumblr media
okay anyway
Tumblr media
My Genshin brainrot has started to fade around now and it’d been replaced with Cosmic Legacy brainrot instead. I just... we loved these kids so much, man. So much cool stuff. Lots of funny filler. A whole bunch of suffering. Y’know. The usual.
I’ll just say it now too that most of August just had a few more Cosmic sketches. Not very much was happening with me creatively, and things were starting to grind me down. And, well... eventually things took a turn, and...
Tumblr media
UH WHOOPS I GOT A GIRLFRIEND AND HER NAME IS STACEY AKA @wolf-of-hearts-den?????
Yeah, that also happened very suddenly. And we both had a lot of feelings to work out. It was a lot, and we couldn’t handle it very well - Stacey especially... considering the fact she had Two Partners now n all... but it all worked out. And all in all, it was an awesome moment, and a great turning point for me.
WIP time helps break up this part of the summary and i’m also pissed i couldn’t get this done in time because it was actually a timely piece. i started to do a 10  year anniversary redraw i’d been planning for Years and chickened out when it came to doing the background. so have this comparison with my Animal Jam OC Ferret for now
Tumblr media
okay back to girlfriend um
Tumblr media
this was honestly really tough to make hkjbbjlk Since our relationship started pretty late into the last month, our feelings spilled out more into the month after. And Boy Howdy, were there feelings. If I can be a little transparent, being able to freely express sexual feelings and thoughts with someone you trust is literally one of the most wonderful things. It’s just one more thing I don’t have to completely hide, and it feels awesome to be able to tell someone. And to have someone think of you and want you in that way? Absolutely insane. It still boggles my mind that someone can love me the way Stacey does. Honestly incredible.
also it’s not like i didn’t make any non-horny art during that time. they were just the only things i put effort into jklhjkl MOTIVATION HITS WHEN IT HITS, Y’ALL
this isn’t a WIP but it is more cosmic art i can share
Tumblr media
ok back to the program. god the art summary is off the rails this year
Tumblr media
Among some more girlfriend-related material, Stacey and Cake and I also had an aggie.io session where I drew some of my OCs poorly. Featured here are Sierra from Legends: Children of the Dragons, Mamoru from Cat Devil, and Val... from my brain. He’s just cool.
there was actually very little else than this, and that continued into...
Tumblr media
Yeah, barely anything happened this month. The RW ref is only half-finished, and I had meant to get that done in August. But I gave it to someone to actually use as reference here, so it counts, okay?
Here we have an actually decent picture of another Cosmic Legacy character named Mercutio, who’s the not-so-good guy. But he does good things for people. He’s a good father... right?
and then Stacey came up with a game in a dream called Everbound and I had to make at least a mock-up title screen for it. Thank you for getting me to make an art to fill the screen up, babe
Tumblr media
Thank God I got the inspiration to finally do that TWEWY self-insert pic only a few days ago, or else this would have been very empty. Additionally we have A Cool Character That Shall Not Be Explained on the right, whom I have added mainly because they are very cool and a piece of art that I completed in this month that I am proud of, as well as another Cool Character that I would be happy to explain about. So Stacey had recently been coming up with their own original story universe thing that’s essentially a radioactive wasteland full of animal mutants and hybrids. It’s mostly an excuse to make rad furry character designs, and I was all in on all of it, so I wanted to try and join in, so I made Calista! She’s a housecat/jellyfish hybrid with the ability to poison and shock people cuz that’s what jellyfish do. Haven’t done much with her, but she was a fun little character design challenge to do if nothing else :>
ANYWAY yeah this year sucked art-wise, but it was a good time regardless. I got a steady full-time job, I got car-driving abilities, and most importantly I have a lovely partner and wonderful friends to keep me sane and feel loved. No matter what happens in this year to come, all I know is I’ll make the most of it, and still find some things to make me happy.
...and maybe i’ll finally get some of those WIPs done OK BYE

@allmymuseinspo said: ღ to help my muse wash up (whether it be their hair, body, some blood off their hands, etc.) jo and verity
It was the middle of summer and the sun was beating down, the heat quite exceptional for a British summer, and as such was being taken full advantage of. Verity’s mother, who loved any excuse to throw a party, had decided to throw a ‘Summer Bonanza’ (which was really just an excuse to show off one of their newly redesigned gardens) and had said she could invite some friends. In the end, Jo was the only person who had been in the country the weekend of her mother’s party, so Verity invited her and they had spent the party more or less attached at the hips, avoiding having to talk to her mother’s friends. Their avoidance had included quite a few glasses of the free champagne that was being handed out, both of them grabbing two glasses whenever a tray went past. All this led to them now clutching onto each other to try and remain upright as they doubled over with laughter over something that really wasn’t funny.
They did try to school their laughter when someone cleared their throat in front of them and they looked up to see Verity’s mother. Their laughed subsided to giggles that escaped every few seconds, eliciting one from the other, while the older woman questioned how much they had had to drink.
“Not that much! Josette just said something so fun--”
“Jo,” she was quickly corrected by the blonde, which only made her laughter start up again and Jo quickly joined in. They tried to stifle their laughter once more, looking down at  the grass as they were given out to, much too drunk to take any of it very seriously. Sounding stern and annoyed, her mother told them to go take a shower to sober up so they quickly made their way indoors, laughter falling from their lips as soon as the door closed behind them.
“She is going to kill you.”
“She’s going to call your mother.”
“She’ll think you’re a bad influence on me.”
“I am a bad influence on you.” With those words and laughter from Josette, Verity grabbed her hand and pulled her up the stairs towards her room. She continued to hold her hand until they were in her bathroom and then she dropped it, moving to pull the ties out of her hair and the tight buns it was in.
“Who says I’m not the bad influence?” Jo asked, giving Verity a challenging look as they looked at one another.
“I’m older.”
“So?”
“That means I have to be the influencer and you’re the influencee. Besides, do you really think I haven’t influenced you at all?” Verity asked, the two walking closer as they spoke.
“Not in a bad way.”
“Some might argue against it.”
“They’d be wrong.”
“Do you really think so?”
“Yes.” This time the words fell from Josette’s lips in a breathy fashion because they were standing much closer, Verity’s hands slowly coming to rest against the blonde’s stomach, just lightly touching her as Jo’s eyes flickered to her lips. They both began to lean in at the same time when there was a knock on the door and they sprung apart.
“Come in,” Verity called, sitting on the edge of the bathtub to take off her shoes. She rolled her eyes when the door opened and she saw it was Christopher on the other side. “Can we help you?” she asked, very clearly trying to sound sober. Her brother rolled his eyes before he replied.
“I was sent to check on you two.”
“Clearly we’re fine.”
“And still drunk.”
“We’re sobering up! Jo’s going to shower next door while I clean up here, and we’ve already called for an elf to bring up some coffee,” she lied easily, dropping her shoes on the floor while Jo nodded in confirmation. Chris nodded, looking them over.
“I’m coming back up in twenty minutes to bring you back outside or mother will kill me.”
“Half an hour.”
“Fine.” And with a small but affectionate roll of his eyes Christopher left and Verity called for a house elf. After asking them to leave some coffee in her bedroom she sighed and turned on her bath and let it begin to fill with warm scented water and bubbles from the charmed tap.
“He’s very good at time keeping, we better be ready,” she said with a small pout, standing up and walking back towards Jo.
“I’ll go next door then.”
“Or you could not,” Verity suggested, eyes meeting hers as she stood in front of her once more. “It would be much more environmentally friendly if we did it together. I’m pretty sure baths use up less water than showers too.”
Jo laughed, smiling at Verity as she reached her. “Since when do you care so much about wasting water?”
“Since now. Will you open the bow?” she asked, turning around. Really, she would have been well able to do it herself but she wanted her to do it instead. She didn’t see Jo nod but she felt her hands move to her waist, slowly opening the knot at the small of her back. The wrap dress opened quite easily after that and Verity let it fall to the floor as Jo slipped out of her shoes. Stood now in just her thong she turned back around to face Jo who turned her own back, wordlessly asking for Verity’s help.
Verity smiled to herself as she tugged the zip slowly down, pressing a kiss to her shoulder as the skin was revealed. The tiny kiss got a hum from Jo and she smiled, pressing another to the side of her neck before she opened the zip the rest of the way and helped Jo out of it. Not finished there, she ran her fingers lightly along the band of her bra, opening it so she could pull it off with ease. She moved her hands to Jo’s waist and was just tucking her fingers into the sides of her underwear when she turned in her hands and they were face to face once more, much closer than before. Verity’s breath hitched slightly in surprise at the closeness, eyes flickering to her mouth which was curved in a slight smirk.
“You’re more forward when you’re drunk,” Verity teased, as Jo’s hands began to push down her underwear.
“I’m not that drunk.”
“My mother thinks otherwise.”
“Can we not talk about your mother while I’m undressing you?” Jo asked, getting a laugh in return.
“Okay, I’m shutting up.” With that Jo knelt down to pull her underwear off, pressing a small kiss to her hip bone as she did so. Verity did the same in return but with a lot less patience, her hands moving to Jo’s face as soon as she was done and pulling her into a kiss. There were giggles pressed against lips as the pair moved towards the bathtub, taking a lot less care than they should have when stepping in, hands clutching one another as the water splashed around. Giggles turn to proper laughter when Verity almost slipped but tried to make it look graceful, Jo quickly joining her in the water with amusement all over her face.
“See? This is much better for the environment,” Verity hummed, her legs all tangled with Jo’s as they faced one another.
“Which is obviously the only reason you asked me to share.”
“Obviously,” she agreed with a quick grin, taking Josette’s face and pulling her into another kiss. They kissed for a few minutes, moving as close as they could manage while still sitting, their mouths still curved into smiles. They only stopped when Verity realised they couldn’t take too long and pulled away with a slight sigh. “You’re actually way too distracting.”
“This was your idea.” Jo laughed, cupping some of the bubbles in her hand and blowing them into Verity’s face in retaliation.
Verity squealed a laugh, trying to bat the other girl away and she picked up more bubbles and blew them at her. “Stop, stop,” she complained, her voice combined with laughter not really fitting with her words. With a little more squealing and splashing Jo stopped, laughing at the bubbles caught in Verity’s eyelashes.
“You’re so dramatic,” Jo teased, brushing the bubbles away with a light touch.
“I’m drunk.”
“And sober you’re not dramatic?”
“Not at all.”
Jo snorted a laugh which just made Verity laugh with her, clearly not offended at being called dramatic. “Liar.”
“Shush,” Verity instructed, pressing a finger to Jo’s lips. “Turn around.” With a little difficulty, more laughter, and water spilling out of the tub she did so and Verity reached up for the shower attachment. She turned it on and directed it towards Jo’s hair with one hand, the other gently running her fingers through it to make sure she got it all. Once it was sufficiently wet she turned the shower head off and picked up the shampoo, squeezing a small amount into the palm of her hand. She moved her hands back to Jo’s hair, gently massaging the shampoo into her scalp. Jo hummed in approval, her eyes shutting as her head tilted backwards slightly and Verity smiled to herself, taking a bit longer and a bit more care that was strictly necessary. She soon switched back on the showerhead and rinsed the shampoo out, her hand free hand still massaging and running through the other girl’s hair with a gentle touch. They were in relative silence now, quite a stark contrast to all the giggles of earlier, when Verity reached for the conditioner and worked that through the ends of her hair. She massaged it through for a minute too before she rinsed it out as well, making sure there was no product left in her hair. She turned off the shower head and leaned backwards to put it back.
“There,” Verity said quietly, moving Jo’s hair over her shoulder and lightly letting her hands down her back.
“Your turn,” Jo said softly and they spent another few seconds giggling and struggling to turn around, eventually settling with Verity’s back against her chest. For the next few minutes Verity just sat in silence, her eyes closed as she leaned her head backwards in the other girl’s hands. She hummed slightly when Jo’s fingers massaged her head, not really sure whether it was the water or her hands that were sobering her up.
About ten minutes later they were back in Verity’s bedroom, dressed and two cups of coffee on her dresser. Verity sat in front of her vanity, doing her makeup, while Jo stood behind her using the same mirror to do her hair. They were mostly quiet, occasionally catching each other’s gaze in the mirror and smiling, when a knock came on her door and Christopher soon walked in.
“Ready?”
“Almost,” Verity answered, pausing her efforts to turn to her brother. “Don’t worry, we’re cleaned up, caffeinated and sober, we’ll be down in a second,” she replied teasingly, rolling her eyes.
True to her word, Jo and Verity followed Christopher downstairs a few minutes later, joining the party with just a few scolding words from her mother. They were much more careful with the drinks they consumed for the rest of the evening but not very careful with each other. They barely separated at all, playing footsie under the table at dinner and giving lingering hugs when Jo was leaving.
Later that night when she lay in bed, Verity picked up her phone and scrolled through her contacts until she reached Josette. She clicked on her number and the option for a text, hesitating slightly when the screen loaded. She turned onto her side, staring at it for a moment before she started typing.
‘I miss being with you li’ she stopped and erased the message.
‘I’m glad you came today!’ She scrunched up her nose, erasing it again.
‘Thanks for coming, I’ Nope, she tried again.
‘I had fun today x’ Before she could rethink it anymore she pressed send and tossed her phone to the side, pulling the covers over her head with a groan.

Creative Life Update | 06.23.20
Hello all! It’s been about, oh, a hundred years since I’ve done an update. But there have been plenty of things going on in the meantime!
Here’s what I’ve been up to:
Finished my first year of med school! Whoo! Three years to go before I have my MD and match (fingers crossed) into residency.
Completed a summer course on the COVID pandemic quick on the heels of the end of my M1 year, which also counts as one of my senior electives. (Plus it was free, cha-ching!)
Started an emergency medicine preceptorship (redesigned to a strange longitudinal schedule, courtesy of the pandemic).
Started volunteer work in health literacy, which I’m super super excited about. This job is even going to involve some writing! I’ll be helping to edit/proofread medical documents being converted to plain language as well as writing social media and blog posts! (This literally just happened, so I’m still all abuzz with it.)
Kept pace in reading three books a month. So far this month I’ve finished Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff (if you haven’t read this book you absolutely MUST, it is so good) and The Wicked King by Holly Black. Currently reading Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik.
Wrote about 4k words on a random, outta-the-blue project in the faerie genre. Do I know why? Nope, but when the muse appears....
Got some quality inspiration for The Calm Before (TCB) which I think makes the kind of change I’m looking for as I continue to re-conceptualize and rebuild this precious, age-old WIP.
Here’s what’s next:
I’ve got to settle into this new health literacy position; specifically I think I’ve got to get started on some blog/social media post ideas. If there are any health/medical terms, concepts, etc. that you think are challenging for people to understand (especially those used regularly by doctors and other medical staff or faced regularly by patients), I’m open to suggestions!
I want to continue to explore my new ideas for TCB, one of which could radically change the content and structure of the story. It’s a big shift, including cutting a character I really wanted to have be a part of the narrative, but I’m very excited about the prospect of this new element.
My plan is to jump back into outlining both Here There Be Monsters and TCB. And probably a little drafting just to keep pace not too far behind the outline.
I’ve got a couple more ideas for HTBM posts to continue to get you guys acquainted with the world and characters, plus some general writing posts. A few are in my drafts, nearly ready to go, and the others are... not.
No idea what the timeline will be on these things because some of them are a little nebulous as tasks go, and of course I’ll be getting into my new role(s) related to health literacy. I’m really excited about the current path I’m on at the moment, including some other good news related to school, and I can’t wait to see where it all takes me and to share my writing progress with you.
I look forward to hearing your own news and updates!

koagema inquired: “i’m having trouble sleeping by myself... can you sleep with me?” UNPROMPTED ASKS | ALWAYS WELCOMED | @koagema
Laying across the couch in the girl’s dormitory, the young Hatter’s head rested down the armrest as her hands were preoccupied with holding a Nintendo Switch close to her face. A small brunette avatar breezes through a stroll through the lengths of flower field she personally grew on her island. A phantom of a smile appears as the Hatter looks over her progress. Redesigned island with her museum, tailor shop, and general store scattered throughout the island and specific neighborhoods in place, divided by wilderness, the naturalistic approach warmed her.
Beyond the horizon, strokes of purple and orange are brushed across the virtual sky as the sun’s light begins fading, mirroring the course of the day outside of the dormitory windows. An idyllic scene painted in the young hatter’s mind - bliss appearing and coloring the atmosphere with long-sought comfort she wished for so long. However, what completed the scene wasn’t in her line of sight -- it was quite literally under her nose.
Short and curled poppy-pink locks greet her as she finally looks down. Chiaki, in great lengths in her cat mannerisms, lays out in similar fashion like her own. However, what cushioned the back the gamer happened to be an odd point of interest for her -- Sophie’s own chest. While all the more curious as to remember how these arrangements and comfortableness of their positions came to be, the Hatter willed herself to pay little attention to rationality and logic for the evening.
Already out of common attire, Sophie was comfortably in an oversized green hoodie with mismatched socks of purple and gray. Her locks of dark copper were bunched up into a bun, lazily kept together with several pins as the strands of true silver and dyed brown fell out. She glanced down over her ‘friend,’ inspecting at how strange the situation was all together. For Chiaki, the change and aesthetic of the clothing were usual -- casual and always looks like she was ready to sleep. A too-large shirt for her frame, a rather ironic ‘Resident Evil’ graphic tee when they were playing such a gentle game, conveniently lengthen shorts and long pairs of white socks as both her feet and Sophie’s feet were tangled together on the couch.
For half a second, I look like a normal teenager, Sophie muses to herself, brows raising at the observation. Though she looks down, observing the ever-so-focused Chiaki tapping away at the buttons and holding down the analog stick. Something lingered on Sophie’s expression -- a rare but small smile, a shine in her eyes, and a hidden adoration underneath it all.  And we look like a...
Immediate misdirection needed and the hatter shakes her head, squeezing her eyes shut.  The world now dark, she takes a soft breath with her mind taking the forefront. Stop that. Don’t you start with that mess now. It’s nice and quiet. Do not be selfish and ruin it. Forced blink after the other, the hatter swallows the blatant mystery that was their relationship, but she continues on.
Yet, repressing is was going to be a challenge. Elephant in the room aside, she couldn’t help but watch her. Chiaki’s cursing has made its presence anytime the two indulge in these slothful times. Sophie wouldn’t be able to hold back a soft laugh before she quietly inquiring about the current irk in Chiaki’s game and providing encouragement. Soft conversation between the two would occur, the other adjusting slowly against the other, with a cuddle and a mutter under their breath.
And now, the flutter returns to her chest, a veil of rosy now glossing her eyes, as the next breath she takes was a heart-filled sigh...
.....And she found herself to have been locking eyes with Chiaki Nanami. An intensity underneath her cloudy grey gaze, the gamer was removed from her game. All attention only fixed between the two girls on the couch, and the loudest sound was the racket in Sophie’s chest. A stuttered breath as the brunette's joints locked, shoulders spiking. The color of embarrassment surged through her pale complexion, ruining the facade of composure and maturity she had been so well known for.
Almost snapping her head back, the Ultimate Hatter uses the armrest to full advantage -- locking eyes elsewhere and allowing her reddened face to fade. Why was I staring for such long? How odd of me! I shouldn’t staring! God, she noticed it and must think that I’m more outlandish as is.
Hidden behind those eyes, what laid in her thoughts, was all too far away for her to comprehend. Guilt panged in her chest and she drew her lips into her mouth, roughly chewing the insides of her cheeks. If she kept it up, she’d sooner have iron flavoring the inside of her mouth.
“My apologies--” She forces her eyes shut, grip shaking and her right leg twitching. Once more, a forced breath leaves her, resilient to fall apart at this current state. She lifts her head again, yet her eyes slowly obscure what was in front of her -- if she dared to look at Chiaki, she dared to think that her heart would stop altogether. And wouldn’t that be a nice way to go?
However, something greeted the hatter’s ears. The gamer had placed down her gaming device on Sophie’s chest, she had taken a breath (was it because she needed to figure out how to make this scene less awkward or she was giving herself time to think of something to say? Sophie ponders).
<I’m having trouble sleeping by myself... can you sleep with me?>
Both of the hatter’s brows knit together, eyes widening -- perplexion fiddling what already little composure she holds whenever she was nearby the shorter girl. Putting the gaming device gently onto the ground beside the couch, hesitantly and cautious fingers reach out. Warm and hollow fingers extend and brush against the other’s warmer cheeks, Sophie’s brows now lowering and her lips now agape
Sophie Hatter should’ve been used to being winded by the sporadic happening at Hope’s Peak Academy. Plenty of hijinks corroborated across the Main Course students and with most others, like herself, dragged into it, there were numerous scenarios on an endless list of proof that she could recall. Despite this, there were other cases that fell short of Sophie having ever experienced them-- one of them being a genuine attraction.
Index finger fiddles along and twirls a strand of poppy pink lock, worrisome eyes roaming over the gamer’s expression, drinking in every last detail she memorized each time she saw her face. Pools of bright gray, never too stormy or gloomy like rain clouds, yet as calming like rain hitting the glass panes back home. A lingering reminder of sleeplessness, familiar yet well-hidden bags underneath her eyes But, they don’t stain her face like it does to mine.
Calloused palm now cups across the softness of the other’s cheek, another hand playing along with every strand it could find. She had half the mind to--...
“Of course, Miss Nanami, I know how hard it is to sleep sometimes. Having someone, I could only imagine it can maybe make it easier. I’m not too sure about that, but I’m willing to help you in whichever way I can. Let’s save before we do--”
Understanding nod aside, Sophie’s cheeks blossomed with a rosy shade and she runs her thumb across the apples of Chiaki’s cheek. A bashful smile emerges, eyes closing, wanting to assure Chiaki in any way she could, wanting to provide in all that she can...after all, that’s all that Sophie Hatter was good for. But, it didn’t sting so much this time around to be used, if it meant to be with her.
Tumblr media
As quietly and quickly as the two moved to the Gamer’s room, unable to contain their whispers and sputters of giggles, they both had easily fallen asleep when they laid by another.
Tangled underneath thick sheets, Sophie Hatter could only reminisce the kindness of Chiaki’s touch. What pooled in her dreams were peonies blooming and lavender scenting the air on a open-wide field by a small home hidden in a flowery meadow.
Her body involuntarily moves, fingers stretching out, reaching out to something. Another softer hand slithered underneath the palm of Sophie’s hand, curling out and in again, occupying the spaces between her marred digits. A gentle squeeze before their hands interlocked again, Sophie’s body returning to peace.
Breath drawn, the slumbering brunette grazed her forehead against a touch she still yearned for -- against Chiaki’s shoulder. Her arm had already rested above the pinkette’s side, holding her close. Sophie’s chest to Chiaki’s back, their breathing slowly and following another in rhythm, pools of copper, silver, and pink mixing together from what little space didn’t exist between their bodies.
All this touch, it was something kept minimal on campus, even when they were awake and alone together. Yet, it was only when their minds drifted and forgotten about the world that their closeness existed in a space that neither of them could yet speak of, but both pined for.
Tumblr media
And it made the dream all the sweeter.

My Ashleigh redesign attempt. Made her hair shorter and she wears a flannel shirt.
Ohhh, very interesting! I've had the idea of playing around with shorter hair for Ashleigh, but I enjoy drawing fluff way too much jbfdoiuynsajd
Also her wearing the flannel properly instead of around her waist just reminds me of Dust and I can't help but chuckle. And she's wearing jeans now!!!!!! That's such a mood, I wore jeans when I was in Arizona.
I love it! Thanks so much!!

@bornhybrid - Part 1 of 3 because this practically wrote itself and it was way too long for one post...
"I left you two alone for five minutes! You cannot be this bad all the time! Are you really that incapable of being civil with each other for a short time?!"
He and Aryan had only been stopping in at the compound on their way to lunch. Toren had wanted to grab a few things from his grandfather's place that he had left behind last time, so he'd left his father talking to Klaus while he quickly went up to his old room to get them. He should have known better. He'd heard the crashing, and had hurried back down to find his father and grandfather trying to rip each other apart. Toren wouldn't say it was unheard of for Klaus and Aryan to go for each other, but this had escalated much quicker than usual. He was now glaring between them as he magically forced them to sit at opposite ends of the room, glowering at each other.
"What happened?"
"The vermin that you call a father suggested some very unsavoury things about myself and your aunt. I was merely correcting him," Klaus sneered.
Toren's magical ability was tested as Aryan tried to leap across the room at Klaus for being called vermin, but his power held strong, and he scowled at his father, looking for his explanation.
"Sir High and Mighty over there deserved what he got," Aryan spat, choosing not to tell his son what Klaus had said to get such a rise out of him. He didn't need to know just how little his grandfather thought of his father. "Let me go Toren!"
Toren massaged his temples with a sigh, silently wishing he'd been born into a family that actually liked each other. He had to deal with more than enough of this with his pack, he really didn't want to be playing peacekeeper with his family too right now.
"Does mum know you two are so petty?"
"...Yes," both men answered grudgingly.
"So do you think perhaps it would be a nice surprise for her if you two could actually get along?"
"We're not children Little Wolf, you won't get us to play nice just because it would make mummy smile," Klaus huffed.
"Oh you're not children? Could have fooled me!"
"You know, we wouldn't be in this mess if you had cleaned the dirt of your face," Aryan grumbled.
"How is it my beard's fault that you goaded grandad into a fight?"
"I would have been in a better mood to take his bullocks," Aryan said simply, inspecting the bite marks on his arm with a grimace. "Feral mutt."
"Don't make me add more, boy," Klaus growled threateningly as Toren crossed the room to drain a cut on his hand into a glass for the Original. Aryan had left him with a few nasty burns and gashes. "Thank you, Little Wolf."
"I'm bigger than all of you," Toren grumbled at the nickname his mother and grandfather had so lovingly redesignated to him, moving to his father to deal with his dislocated shoulder. "Physically and moralistically apparently. Ready?"
Aryan groaned in pain as his son, perhaps rougher than necessary, popped his shoulder back into place before heading over to the dining table and sitting down.
"Right. I'm going to let you both go now. You are not going to attack each other. You are both going to apologise and shake hands. You are then going to sit down next to each other, and I, as the only adult in the room, am going to mediate your conversation as you talk about what's upsetting you so that next time you see each other, this doesn't happen. Got it?"
"We don't need marriage counselling Toren," Aryan muttered.
"What? You scared of something?" Klaus challenged, immediately lighting Aryan's eyes up with gold.
"Enough," Toren growled, lifting his magic from them both. "Come on. Shake hands."
"Do you always let your son push you around?" Klaus asked Aryan as they shook hands. From the way both their knuckles were turning white, and the distinct sounds of cracking, Toren was fairly certain they were each trying to crush the other's hand. No, definitely not children.
"Would you like to test him?" Aryan grumbled pointedly. Toren had definitely filled out since his teenage years. He was quite the hulking figure these days, and with Aryan and Hope both doing their best to make sure their kids knew how to use the full extent of their powers, Toren wasn't one to screw with. Not when he was annoyed at least.
"That's not an apology, Grandpa."
"You're right, Little Wolf. Norman, I'm sorry... that I didn't kill you when I had the chance."
Banging his head on the table was far less painful than trying to deal with Aryan and Klaus' ridiculous feud right now. To Aryan's credit, he managed not to get physically violent at the old nickname, so that was something at least, though Toren wondered if he'd have been so controlled if Aryan actually understood the reference... Best not to let him know.
"Grandpa please..."
"Fine. I'm sorry I bit you, and tried to rip off your arm, and... everything else I did," Klaus said, his tone suggesting apologising was causing him more pain than the injuries Aryan had delivered upon him.
"I'm sorry I burned you... and stabbed you," Aryan muttered through gritted teeth.
"That was so much harder than it should have been," Toren sighed. "Sit."
When they let go of each other's hands, Toren could see the way they were bent out of shape.
"Really? Do you feel better now that your hand's broken?" he asked waspishly.
"I feel better now that his hand's broken," Aryan clarified, shifting the bones back into place like he did it every day.
"This is ridiculous! What's wrong with you two?! You've been family for a century! How have you not put your arguments aside yet?!" Because they were both as stubborn, possessive and paranoid as each other, no doubt. "You can't keep doing this."
"It's not like we haven't tried before Toren. It just doesn't work."
"You haven't tried! All you've both ever done is agreed to put your arguments on hold for mum. That's not actually trying to get along, that's just ignoring the problem. I am not going to let you ignore it any more. The doctor is in."
"Oh, no. No, Toren, if I wanted to talk to a psych, a real one, I'd have done it already. We're not doing-"
"I do not feel that your father respects me as the father of his wife," Klaus declared, leaning back in his seat with a smug smirk on his face as he watched Aryan flounder for an excuse not to start sharing with the class.
"Are you kidding me?!" Aryan snapped. "All I ever used to do was show you respect! I got nothing back! So yeah, I don't show you much any more, because I've never seen it from you!"
"Why would I show you respect? The Prince of Hell swoops in, steals my daughter, sods off and breaks her heart, then appears again years later to knock her up. Would you show that kid respect?"
"I. Didn't. Have. A. Choice," Aryan asserted through gritted teeth. "And I didn't steal your daughter. I became her friend. Then I became her boyfriend. And by the way, if it weren't for me, you wouldn't have known she was having trouble at school, she wouldn't have had anyone she could relate to through all her magic troubles, and you know, I seem to recall me being the one to convince her to show her face again after her car accident. I do regret the pregnancy though, because if it hadn't happened, we wouldn't be here!"
"Well I feel loved," Toren muttered sarcastically.
"All I have ever done is tried to make Hope happy. I don't understand why you refuse to see that. I have given her everything!"
"I don't understand why you refuse to see that no matter what you do, you won't be good enough for her," Klaus replied simply. "You've got kids. Haven't you felt that for them?"
"Wow. I finally see what Elijah means," Toren mused as he watched the two of them bicker. "It's uncanny. You're practically twins."
"Shut up Toren!" Aryan huffed.
"He's not wrong. I've said it for a long time."
"You too!" Aryan snapped, pushing himself to his feet. "I'm not doing this."
"Why don't you like being like grandad? He's strong, and powerful, and all the things you seem to value."
“It’s not that simple Toren. It’s just not,” Aryan snapped. “You want to know what else your grandfather is? He's a dictator, he's paranoid, he's short tempered, and he's a bloody coward!"
"And now the gloves come off," Klaus growled, rising to his feet and advancing on Aryan again. "I'll allow you a few last words to say goodbye to your son."
"Take one more step and I will boil you from the inside," Aryan said, deathly calm. "Listen, you ego-inflated nut job, your first reaction to any problem that ever presents itself is to run away from it. Your bark is a thousand times worse than your bite, because you never just bloody well go for it. You hide behind 'mastermind plans' or whatever to hide the fact you're still a scared little boy still afraid of being hit by daddy."
Klaus snarled, eyes turning yellow and growing dark veins beneath as he bared his fangs, but Toren was in between them again before he could touch Aryan.
"Oh my, did I hit a nerve?" Aryan asked, innocent tone dripping in condescension as Toren struggled with Klaus. "Thank you for proving my point."
"Dad! How is that helping?!"
"Oh, no, you're right, it's definitely not." There was a distinct air of satisfaction in Aryan's voice.
"Right, you know what? I'm done with you both."
In the blink of an eye, Toren had flashed behind Klaus to break his neck. Aryan jumped in shock, watching with some amount of amusement as Klaus dropped to the ground.
"Toren, it's good to see you're taking my-"
"Sorry Dad."
Aryan yelled as pain split across his head, dropping him to his knees before he pitched forward, the pain blacking him out.
"I'm sick of you too."

TIMING
Having previously renovated a modern industrial-style home in Melbourne’s north, Alison Lewis discovered she had a passion for residential design and development. So after the sale of their house, Alison and her family spent five months on the hunt for a new space to renovate and call home.
Viewing a 1930’s Californian bungalow in the suburb of Kew off-market, Alison took a walk-through video of the home for reference, verbalising ideas for the space as she went along. Afterwards, Alison placed an offer, but it was rejected. As the unsold property moved on-market, Alison and her husband weren’t entirely convinced that the home was for them – but they hadn’t really let it go either.
Standing on the busy street on the day of the auction, the couple quickly realised how few people were bidding. Seizing the opportunity, they jumped in with a relatively high bid and blew the active bidders out of the water.
As bidding ground to a halt, the couple negotiated 45‑day terms, and their offer was accepted from their one last-minute bid. What a rollercoaster!
VISION
Now the proud owners of a Kew masterpiece in the making, Alison had 45 days to rack her brain and create a vision for their new home. She spent most of her time finessing the floorplan, turning dark and pokey rooms into a light, open-plan space.
As an interior designer, Alison is always excited to work with different aesthetics, in this instance redesigning a period-style home with ornate cornices, 3.1 metre (10 ft, 2 in) ceilings and original Baltic pine floors. She quickly crafted an initial concept for the home by taking inspiration from local minimalist interior design companies, referring back to her walk-through video musings and pinning well-executed small homes on Pinterest.
Yet upon moving in, the couple didn’t begin straight away, simply ripping up and replacing the carpets and choosing to sit thoughtfully in the property for a while. With only 300m2to work with, and the house taking up most of that space, Alison cites this process as crucial in helping them understand the flow and best use of each space – not to mention the best light.
JOURNEY
Alison took the building journey entirely at the pace her family could handle and afford, affectionately referring to the stages of the build (to the exasperation of the builder) as stages one, two and three. Little by little, as the couple saved money, they ticked through their stages, taking 2.5 years to complete the renovation.
Alison loved every step of the project from her position as designer and project manager. This was the first time that she had managed and scheduled various tradespeople, but Alison insists that the trusting relationships she developed, particularly with her builder and carpenter, and working through the (many) challenges were her favourite parts of the process, learning a ton along the way.
TIPS
Throughout the renovation, Alison worked hard to ensure that everyone on the build felt involved and that they were working towards the best collective outcome. She never lost patience and was never short with her trades, even bringing her team morning coffee and checking in that they had everything they needed. Alison says, ‘My top tip would be to go with the flow. Things are going to come up. I think if you accept that it’s not going to be exactly how you envisioned it, but it’s still going to be beautiful, it takes a lot of pressure off. Don’t get too stressed, there’s always a solution.’
A big part of being able to ‘go with the flow’ is a solid contingency plan and budget. ‘I’ve never come across or worked on a project that hasn’t had something come up that meant an additional cost. Make sure your budget and costs are right.’
Alison also insists that a collaborative approach with the builder, designer and architect will help you find the best solution.
