Storm, Sunfire, Sunspot and the Arakki mutants gather around at Arakko-Mars during the aftermath of Blood Dawn the Arakki sparring ritual. The injured Sunspot tries to joke as a way of coping his pain from his ill-timed fight with a stronger Arakki mutant. He hopes that the Arakki mutants are not about to start another pain-based holiday. Bei the Blood Moon reminds him that Arakko lost its voice in Otherworld and now Redroot the Forest has finally returned to them. Cue to Bei's words, Sunfire manages to return Redroot with the help of Weaponless Zsen and Storm. After extracting Redroot from his chest, Storm helps to keep Sunfire alive by zapping his chest to jump-start his heart. Once Zsen had planted Redroot to the soil, Storm showers the Arakki mutant with rain to make her grow into normal size. Sunspot mentioned that he wallowed in self pity long enough and has a more important role to play. Bei says their pain will not be without purpose. Sunspot approaches Weaponless Zsen and tells her serving with her father (Fisher King) and aunt (Syzya of the Smoke) was an honor. Sunspot decides to relinquish his seat on the Night table and grants it to her so that he could go back to Earth and find his friends.

I don't know if I've talked about it here before or not, but I'm torn between my two picks for the still vacant Seat of Dreams on the Great Ring of Arakko.
On one hand, we have Apocalypse coming back, and if he doesn't return to Krakoa, I could see him holding this seat, but on the other hand, we have the return of Redroot. With her back in the picture, this would be the perfect opportunity to have Arakko itself sit on the Great Ring, with Redroot acting as it's Voice, as opposed to the unofficial seat it originally had.
Of course, if (That-Which-Was) Xilo stays merged with the Fisher King, that would potentially open up either the Seat of History or the Seat of Nothing, and Arakko could potentially fill the former.

With our new entry for this purpose, you can now vote for Kabam to add any Swordbearer of Arakko to Marvel Contest of Champions
There were too many to add individually, but together they seem like an important moment in recent mutant history.

hello! your writings on embodied ecological knowledge & mycorrhizal systems are such a joy to read. I'm moving to a new home where the "front" yard is bare packed dirt, weeds and broken glass. I don't even know if I have permission yet, but all day I've been dreaming about trying to rake the glass out, turn over the soil, get some compost or top soil down (and if some native wildflowers and grasses "just so happen" to appear, oh well!) I'll be researching this myself , but I loved the shape of your thoughts and wished to ask; any general advice for restorative gardening?
My approach personally is to leave areas to themselves, plant native flowers and weed selectively when something invasive takes hold or something gets too numerous.
Suburban yards, especially near newly constructed homes, are usually extremely compacted subsoil with the topsoil stripped away, and extremely starved of nutrients. Identify what plants you have already and look them up to find out what clues they are giving you. Certain plants thrive only in areas with poor soil, too little competition etc.
Putting down compost is a good idea, as is mulching with rotten leaves and other yummy decomposing stuff. Tilling the whole area is probably not necessary.
Fact is, "weeds" stop erosion and protect the soil from drying out, and they can stop small sprouts from getting cooked by the sun. Identify them and leave stuff that isn't a noxious invasive, and wait a while. After some perennials start growing you can weed the annual weeds that pop up readily (in my area that's three-seeded mercury, milky spurge, crabgrass, redroot pigweed). Introduce native flowers and plants that you'd like to have. If you have to clear a spot, cover it in organic matter.
Research what biome you're in. If you live in a forest, a small grove of trees may do you good. In the southeastern US, Eastern Red Cedar, maples, American Sycamore, Virginia pine, loblolly pine, wild black cherry, and black walnut are major pioneer species. (Black walnut releases juglone, which inhibits other plants from growing, so use caution with that one. Pines and apple trees are particularly intolerant to juglone.) I recommend that people plant pioneer species because those are adapted to colonize areas that are not much unlike a stripped and devastated suburban yard. Species outside the "pioneer" category generally need more shade, organic matter and shelter to prosper.
It is very easy to find plants for free once you know what you're doing. I've gotten many beautiful plants from walking in my neighborhood and yoinking stuff out of pavement cracks, including my evening primrose and blue mistflower that are currently in bloom.
Dirt from an area with an established plant community also is full of seeds and good stuff, but use caution, because it could have been sprayed with herbicides and pesticides, or could have an invasive problem, or anything.
Good luck!!!

Medicinal: Bloodroot
Used to treat colds, cuts, infections, sore throats, and stomachaches.
Tumblr media
Description: bloodroot, also known by a variety of other common names including bloodwort and redroot, is a small herb that belongs to the poppy family and tends to grow in large colonies. It was named for its bright red sap, which is mainly present in the roots and rhizomes of the plant. The single white flower blooms as early as March, and the leaves, which unfurl later in the season, are typically large and lobed; however, the leaf and flower shape both vary greatly. Bloodroots produce pods of orange seeds which ripen in midsummer before the plant enters dormancy, and these seeds are dispersed by ants.
Habitat: bloodroot tends to grow on floodplains and stream banks in rich deciduous forests and thickets.
Usage: historically, bloodroot was used to treat a large variety of conditions. To name a few uses, it can be chewed to treat colds, sore throats, and stomachaches, and it can be made into a poultice to treat minor cuts or infections (source).
Note: the sap of bloodroot plants is highly poisonous. Ingestion of the plant can cause vomiting, and contact between sap and the skin can cause heavy, permanent scarring. Bloodroot is also associated with cancer. It is not recommended to use bloodroot medicinally due to the risks associated with it.

meet dionae, the mutant oc i designed for the x of words community!!
[text]
any pronouns : arakki : plant form (heightened invulnerability + senses, poisonous spines, carnivorous lifeforce sapping “fly” trap, control of vines, growing from body, and chlorokinesis)
dionae was born millenia upon millennia ago in arakko’s canopies, and it will be millenia upon millenia before they die.
far too focused on being the deadliest flower in the jungle to involve themselves in their contemporaries’ wars, dionae lived secluded from arakko’s larger politics, nurturing the beauty of the land and feasting upon those stupid enough to exploit them.
however, one day, redroot the forest informed her of a significant change in the status quo.
dionae has spent so much of his life surrounded by plants that it surprises him how fun fleshy people are. he loves his long-lost cousins - their youth, their fire, their lust for life despite the fact that they will all be reclaimed to the earth in due time. dionae even loves the hubris of their assumption that their fleshy laws can trump the natural directive of the earth. they have conquered death, but they cannot conquer dionae’s need for the slaughter.
but dionae loves xeir cousins, so krakoa teaches xem to sate xeir cravings in a bloodless way. and if a mutantphobic politican or two goes missing on their vacation to cancun, well, who’s to say what happened?

Storm is staring at the Uranos Trigger Cube as the Eternal still prattles on about deciding whether she could activate to use him as a weapon to fight Genesis (Apocalypse's wife). However, because of his unpredictable destructive nature; Uranos would not only destroy Genesis' army, he would also kill the brainwashed Arakki mutants (e.g. Sobunar, White Sword and so on), turn on Storm's army or even hurt/kill civilians so in other words, Uranos would kill anyone in his path until he stops when he reaches his time limit. Then, Storm is interrupted by Jon Ironfire who wants to activate the Uranos Trigger because his former comrades of Arakko had been swayed to Genesis' side and he needs to use him to win in the war. Storm refuses to let him do it by destroying the Uranos Trigger with her lightning bolt. Jon Ironfire gets upset with her for destroying his chance to use the Eternal weapon for "easy victory" so he walks away in a huff. Sunspot comes in and gives Storm a grim news. According to Sunspot, Nova (Richard Rider) had survived Pestilence's Poison Arrow thanks to the nova force keeping him alive but he is in a lot of pain that he shut himself out and had retreated deep into his mind. Just then, an Arakki mutant interrupts the two mutants by proclaiming that Apocalypse has returned. As Horseman Death reaches out to Apocalypse, he is impressed to hear that his son had not only chose Storm's side, he kept his sense of honor. Even though Death told his father that he killed his sister, Pestilence, he doesn't care about his daughter's death. Though to be fair for Apocalypse, Pestilence nearly killed both Apocalypse and Rictor with her poison arrows back then in 'X of Swords' storyline. Storm approaches Apocalypse and asks if he's not standing with Genesis. Apocalypse replies that he will not stand against Genesis but he won't stand aside either. He says Arakko needs and deserves more than Genesis offers. It needs magic. It needs Storm.
Apocalypse brings Storm to the carved out magic circle where Vulcan, Orc the demon and the hooded figure are. The hooded figure reveals the hood. It's Sunfire! Storm asks if he was able to rescue Redroot and he says more than that. Sunfire has Redroot grown onto his chest and according to him, the Arakki plant mutant has been keeping him alive and if she gets removed, he would die. The mutants in the magic circle represent the elements - Sunfire-Redroot for Earth, Orc the demon represent air, Apocalypse represents water, Vulcan represents fire and lastly, Storm has to be in the center of the magic circle that represents all kinds of elements. Apocalypse pulls Vulcan to the designated spot. Before Vulcan could start yelling on his tirade, Apocalypse starts the magic ritual and Storm channels the magic energy.
Meanwhile, Sobunar and Genesis are on the island watching the battles from afar until they see a giant monster approaching them. The giant monster is Kaorak and also, Storm is riding on it. Looks like shit is going down between Storm and Genesis....
