Clearly Calm and Keeping Terrorised by Batbirdies & the Make a Little Birdhouse in Your Soul series by bacondoughnut are others I think everyone knows, but I thought I'd mention them anyway.

I’m usually sympathetic to Karkat’s crabbiness, but even I have my limits, and I'm sure John's approaching his. The poor kid's dad just died, and he does not need this bullshit right now.

Honestly, I kind of hope he falls apart emotionally, once the current crisis is dealt with. The alternative would be for him to keep repressing things indefinitely - and the longer he holds it all in, the harder it's going to be to let it all out.

Adagio denotes a song with a slow tempo, and redshift is a phenomenon where the speed of an object's movement through space alters its perceived color. It’s fantastic name for a Time/Space Fraymotif.

Just as an added bonus, one of the main applications of redshift is to measure the relative velocities of distant stars - so it's doubly fitting for this fight against a star-powered supervillain.

I sometimes forget that Scratch is still speaking to us from one of Alternia’s moons.

I suppose Alternia's not really relevant anymore, though, since we're in the Intermission’s timeframe. The trolls went extinct a long time ago.

First Introduction HCs | Curly

You are an astronomer working for Pony Express, and you've received an order to go on a several hundred-day venture on the Tulpar.

You still have a couple of weeks before being required to board the vessel, but you still need to meet the captain of the ship, Captain Curly. Questions was where to find him.

With your occupation, you resided in your astral observatory, takes notes of anomalies that could jeopardize Pony Express' transits across space on late night shifts.

A knock at your door nearly sends you off your stool and into a table laden with star charts. At the door is the captain, who looks like he has a spiel ready on the tongue but immediately loses any semblance of script when his cerulean eyes dust across you.

Anya speech you had prepared also seems to die as you take in his broad shoulders, his messy blonde hair, and his strange but charming sideburns.

Curly seems to break out of his stupor and offers his hand "Hey sorry, it's not often I see an astronomer who looks better than the stars themselves" Curly lends you an awkward smile but even that in itself sends a wave of warmth across your face.

You shake his hand, and instead of letting go right away, you drag him into your observatory. "The pleasure is mine Captain, now that introductions are in order, would you like to take a peek at the voyage route I have planned for the Tulpar?"

What should've been a small discussion on strategy turned into letting Curly use the massive telescope and explaining Pluto's moon, Xena, or the concept of redshift. Curly loved every minute of it and how you animatedly went about various theories and proceeded to show him your sketch book of the constellations.

Eventually, this became a weekly Curly ordering pizza, and bringing it up to you on the late nights, he decided to visit you, insisting he had to "Take good care of his crew." But the two of you knew this was quickly growing into something more.

On the night before the voyage, you had your bags packed up and ready to go, and Curly, waiting at the door wanted to say his goodnight before he left to sleep for the night.

As you approached, he seemed slightly nervous, but meeting your gaze, he seemed straight up. "You know, I need a co-pilot too? If you're up to the position? I could use some one of your er... expertise?" You already knew why he wanted you as captain; the two of you have been hitting it off for a couple of weeks, but you lean on your toes to gently kiss his cheek. "Of course, captain, I'd be honored to" his hand slides down your shoulder and takes one of your hands in his and presses something metallic into it before curling your fingers around it, laying a kiss to the back of your knuckles "Then see you tomorrow partner" his hand leaves yours, grabbing the door, he winks before sliding the door shut

Looking down, you open your hand to see a music box with the solar system etched into the lid of the box

Hi! I've been trying to find a fic that I read a while ago and I wonder if you might recognize it. Kirk starts out the five year mission but keeps butting heads with Spock, so he instead starts up a correspondence with Spock Prime in which they become quite close. In the letters, they quote W.H. Auden's "The More Loving One" and a line from the Aeneid in which Aeneas is searching the streets, calling out for his wife Creüsa in grief. Eventually, Spock Prime convinces Kirk to give a relationship with young Spock another go.

Does this sound familiar at all? I'd love to read it again. Thanks!

do you think Killer and Insanity could be friends. Like Killer at first didn’t care much for the guy other then the fact that his soul was definitely interesting a perfect specimen to study really. Insanity of course tries to avoid him as I have heard from some sources that have talked to the new creator how Insanity wouldn’t outright fight someone he isn’t sure he can win against and while the two are definitely close in strength I still feel as if Killer would win. At the very least Insanity can respect this strange Sans strength. They both have access to save, load, and resets even if Killer has something a little extra I don’t know I kinda just wanna see them interact more then just the Murder time trio fight videos but with insanity sometimes replacing Horror or him just joining. Although I do like the idea of the four going around bat taking out of control players/Charas/frisk all for their own reasons it would also be a nice way for them to be in a story that doesn’t have them as Nightmares lackeys actually that gives me an idea

And yeah, wiki says he has access to save/load/reset but it’s not more than the human’s, like flowey. So killer’s determination probably stills outweighs I’s. Honestly i wouldn’t be surprised if killer sees himself as superior in a way when compared to Insanity.

Wouldn’t be surprised if, for whatever reasons, if Insanity starts hanging around killer for whatever reason and if killer tolerates it for whatever reason, some may get the vibes that insanity is like killer’s “lackey” and killer is more like the ‘leader’ of the two.

Killer may see himself as above insanity in some way, but I doubt he’d naturally or immediately take over a leadership role in whatever little duo they form—he’s not a leader type.

Outside of a “work” and scientific context, killer may just want insanity to leave him alone and would probably avoid him if he becomes insistent about it—unless insanity makes killer think similar to the way Swap did.

That he won’t stop if Killer doesn’t make him stop. Which means psychological and physical torment.

And if insanity can manage to handle that somehow and keeps coming back, for whatever reasons he’d ever do that (maybe he feels like he and killer are similar, maybe he saw how Killer is in Stage 3 and how Nightmare and the others handle and respond to Stage 3, or perhaps killer’s strength appeals to him?), then maybe it becomes something different.

Maybe it becomes a bit of a transactional thing. If Insanity lets Killer satisfy his curiosities with him and leaves him alone when he wants to be, then killer..helps Insanity with whatever he may want. Help with revenge on Gaster? Help on taking out someone? Just some company or something? I don’t know.

Given who these two are as characters, their backgrounds, high chance of it not being a very healthy coworker or partnership dynamic. Particularly in a setting where they’re with Nightmare, or at least Killer is.

But there could potentially be some wholesome or sweet moments in their understanding, even if the thing that they understand about each other is that they aren’t like the others around them.

Must be a hot take, (or a take in general), not just you rambling about how hot you think your favorite Phighter is or something. That means no confessions. Gotta emphasize this one because y’all keep sending confessions and not hot takes.

No spamming a hot take in hopes that we see it sooner, we’ll get to you when we get to you.

You can’t slip your headcanons into hot takes. You think a character should go by they/them? Cool. Submit it as a headcanon, but please don’t use it in a hot take. (Having a hot take ABOUT a headcanon doesn’t violate this rule).

You can make a hot take about a hot take, but please don’t go after people or be disrespectful when doing so, unless the person in question is horrendous enough to be called out for their actions.

No copypastas. If you suspect a hot take is a copypasta, please tell me and share the original copypasta so I can confirm that it is, in fact, a copypasta.

Here you can submit any, and I mean any and all headcanons you may have! Your headcanons won’t be rejected at all, (even if I silently disagree with them).

There are, of course, a few rules…

Headcanon Submission Rules:

Obviously, no hateful headcanons, (transphobic ones, homophobic ones, racist ones, etc).

No disgusting ones either. Nobody wants to know what you think a fictional character’s kinks are.

Do not repeatedly submit the same headcanon in hopes of getting it accepted sooner. It’ll be seen when it gets seen.

Do not harass other people for having opposing headcanons. This should be obvious, I hope.

It’s okay to have a debate over a headcanon, just keep it friendly.

i also took the expert belt off of cassini and gave it to anadyo, then gave cassini the never-melt ice instead. and redshift (zoroark) has black glasses instead of the amulet coin

for the record, sadalsuud’s (minior’s) hidden power type is fighting which allows it to hit steel types that would otherwise resist acrobatics and rock slide… the only other move i have for hitting steel types at this point in time is bulldoze, but since steel types are often really physically defensive and sadalsuud has a usable special attack on account of being naughty nature, i opted to go for hidden power instead (it’s cool that she just so happened to randomly get it, too)

nasty plot is technically better on redshift here, but i used fake tears on almost every totem over the course of the game and it’s exclusive to zorua, so if i delete it i can never get it back… i’m keeping it for flavor and sentimentality

i am also using sparkling aria with primarium Z over scald for the flavor. because why not

kiki has something to do but i’ll beat the game later this evening… i’m excited

The Cepheids of M100 - January 10th, 1996.

"Can this blinking star tell us how fast the Universe is expanding? Many astronomers also believe it may also tell us the age of the Universe! The photographed "Cepheid variable" star in M100 brightens and dims over the course of days as its atmosphere expands and contracts. A longer blinking cycle means an intrinsically brighter star. Cepheid variable stars are therefore used as distance indicators. By noting exactly how long the blinking period is and exactly how bright the star appears to be, one can tell the distance to the star and hence the star's parent galaxy. This distance can then be used to match-up easily measured recessional velocity ("redshift") with distance. Once the "Hubble relation" was determined for M100, it can then apply to all galaxies - and hence can tell us how fast the Universe is expanding."

My brain likes randomly throwing ideas at me so have one my brain spawned at 3am while I was trying to sleep

Essentially: just like Vine, Shuriken is cursed. Unlike Vine, his curse isn't centered around plants--it's around stars and space, both in part to shurikens being ninja stars and because the very popular skin concept of "stariken". Vine's curse showed up when she was first spawned and progressed up her arm before stopping, but in Shuriken's case, it showed up a good 4 years after he spawned--and his immediate executive decision was, like an idiot, to hide it from everyone. The curse appears as the symbol of a 4-point star on his left hand (same as Vine!) and blue veins around the symbol, that sorta creep up his arm and wind with his tattoo. Bc inphernals are furry in my hcs he's able to hide it well, mostly via purposefully layering his fur to cover it and wearing fingerless gloves chronically to hide the marking

Two years after the curse showed up, Shuri decided to become a vigilante known as "Sirius" (after the star, though a popular name for him from civilians is "Stari") and basically put all his points into using what the curse gave him for combat, to further separate his civilian self from Sirius

The curse gives him the ability to basically manipulate light in a way--creating mirages and balls of light and mini flashbangs ect. He uses it to hide the appearance of his shurikens and also to pull off the cloning move of his base skillset, making himself invisible via light cloaking and then creating a mirage of himself elsewhere. The light he summons is primarily blue and white so he went full blue for his vigilante self rather than green

Ofc the curse also has drawbacks. The primary one is rather severe narcolepsy, specifically type 1--cataplexy. Essentially, if he gets too emotional, there's a chance his body just goes "nah fuck you" and he sorta collapses, it looks like fainting, but he is entirely conscious during it. Gods bless pages on how disorders work. Another main drawback is actual fainting if he uses the light manipulation/summoning too much since it draws directly from his energy, which is also the main cause for the narcolepsy--the curse is an energy thief that constantly draws from his own energy, which results in him being extremely lethargic

And of course in standard Shuriken fashion he covers all of it up and pretends he's fine

Ofc none of this is meant to undermine Vine's curse--my brain just thought it'd be interesting to explore Vine and Shuri's differences in regards to how they handle these sorts of disabilities and situations, and how alike yet separate they tend to be. Whereas Vine accepts her curse and doesn't mind others knowing albeit with a great deal of "Oh it's not that bad", Shuriken entirely hides it and pretends it doesn't exist until it's useful. And I also just like putting Shuriken into situations

i love this concept so much i can't even explain it. like. it's shuriken but he can literally manipulate light. that is badass

if you ever design this au's shuri/his outfit as sirius can we see it perhaps

In a previous post, I talked about creating new styles for Dante, and one that I mentioned was a ranged moveset for his summoned swords, inspired by Vergil's own Mirage Blade attacks. It rounds out the style wheel nicely, but it seems a little redundant and uncreative.

Today, I have not one but two alternatives. They're both devil arms returning from previous games, ones that were controlled in very unique and perhaps unintuitive ways, appealing primarily to more skilled players. Of course, I'm talking about Nevan and Lucifer.

I thought trying to fit an entire weapon's moveset into a single style would be challenging, but it was a lot easier than expected in both cases. Though, I should note that I don't have very much experience with either of these weapons in their original appearances, and don't have a strong understanding of how they're used.

Starting with Nevan, just like in Devil May Cry 3, holding the Style button would make Dante enter the Tune-Up stance, granting access to Combo 1, 2, and 3 by simply holding the button, pressing left on the analog stick, or pressing right on the analog stick respectively. Unlike in Devil May Cry 3, Bat Rift and Distortion are also added to the Tune-Up stance, by pressing backward on the analog stick or pressing forward on the analog stick respectively. Rather than being limited to Air Play, Dante should have access to the Tune-Up stance in the air, and he falls just a little bit slower while it's active. Outside of Tune-Up, Dante would be able to use Reverb Shock with the input Forward + Style, and Jam Session with the input Back-To-Forward + Style.

Moving on to Lucifer, this style would grant access to all of the weapon's standard moveset, completely unchanged from its first appearance. However, its Swordmaster moves from Devil May Cry 4 are used by holding and releasing the Style button, rather than pressing it, similarly to King Cerberus's lightning attacks. Holding the Style button during Ecstasy (the rose throw) will actually delay and cancel the throw, which is not the case for the other moves. A version of Ecstasy should also be available for use in the air. One aesthetic change I'd make to the weapon is giving Lucifer's darts a much more limited red glow, making them appear primarily metallic, to better distinguish them from Devil Sword Dante's summoned swords.

One concern is that with the addition of both Nevan and Lucifer, along with Redshifter, Quicksilver, and Dante's summoned sword moveset (which I think I'll be calling Dark Knight from here on out), on top of his four original styles, Dante now has a total of nine styles.

This may seem like a lot for the average player to handle, but keep in mind that in this hypothetical game, much like in Devil May Cry 3, the player wouldn't be expected to wield all of Dante's weapons and styles at once. In fact, they wouldn't immediately have the option to, as I'd have weapon slots and style slots be upgrade purchased in the shop.

The player would start with the classic Style Wheel, depicted below.

Then, after unlocking the fifth style (most likely Redshifter due to it being an offshoot of Trickster), they may purchase an alternative Style Wheel with an additional slot in the center, similar to the one from Devil May Cry 4.

Then, further into the game, the player can purchase another Style Wheel with eight slots, like the one described in my earlier post.

And the final Style Wheel will have nine slots.

The styles in the corners are selected by pressing two directions at once. For example, Redshifter would be selected by pressing Up and Right at the same time.

I also like the idea of the player being able to purchase a wheel with just one slot, locking themself to a single style, for the sake of challenge runs.
