okay kinda late to bennetts bday (not really tho bc i mean feb 29 never happened) but uh heres a theory i have for him:

so, hes very unlucky, right? what if when he was younger he crashed into master crepus' grapeyard and accidentally squashed a few? and he thought Master crepus would be angry but master crepus' first question was asking if bennett was okay and he was just concerned.

and then a few years later the same happens after master crepus had died and diluc saw it and started walking over. internallt, bennett has heard the wospers and gossip of the city, that diluc is nothing like his father and hes just cold and rude all the time, and all the people who villanify him. so hes very scared but only for diluc to be like all chill and nonchalant:

diluc: ...did you squish my grapes?

bennet: yes- im so sorry, it was an accident i swear!

diluc: ...you hurt or anything?

bennett: ....no.

diluc: ok then.

and after that bennett never listened to the wispersnof the city again and defended diluc
