the difference of being saved by your friend versus by your enemy

S4 The End - Part 2 / S1 Masks
“I’m glad you made it.”
“I’m not through with you.”
THEY DID THIS IN OURPOSE THOSE NERDS (affectionate) IN THE WRITERS ROOM DID THIS ON PURPOSE YOU CANT TELL ME OTHERWISE
THE ANGLES??? THE EXPRESSIONS? THE FUCKING QUOTES⁉️
who wrote these episodes…
TOM PUGSLEY, GREG KLEIN, AND ROB HOEGEE. WHEN I GET YOU WHEN I CATCH YOU
the way that robin is holding onto cyborg’s arm the same way cyborg’s holding his. the way robin’s hand ISNT holding onto slade’s arm…
i made another post where i showed the same parallel but for Divide & Conquer, and robin wasn’t holding onto cyborg’s arm either. either we call this an out of character moment (common in that episode) OR we go more insane and say that this shows robin’s character progression in terms of trusting his friends.
what’s the difference between a friend and an enemy when you don’t trust either of them?

On July 19, 2003, the highly regarded "Teen Titans" cartoon premiered. It featured the villain Slade Wilson (Deathstroke) sending some new recruits from H.A.E.Y.P./H.I.V.E. (Gizmo, Jynx, and Mammoth) to battle the Teen Titans (Robin, Cyborg, Beast Boy, Raven, and Starfire). ("Final Exam", Teen Titans, TV, Event)

According to story editor Rob Hoegee that's not what happened. In a fan Q&A chat back in 2006 he said:
Tumblr media
"Q: Okay, were you ever talked to about a sixth season? And if so, any details at all? Please? rob hoegee: I'm sure this is one question that everyone is itching to ask… I'll try to give you the short and easy to read version… At the beginning of season five, we were told that it would be the last batch of episodes ordered. In fact, we were slated to do 20 rather than the usual 13. Amy and I (along with David and Glen) mapped out a pretty ambitious season arc - with 20 eps, you have that luxury… After we planned everything out, it was, "Oh, by the way, now we're only doing 13" So we had to make some serious modifications to end up where we did. We also knew that season five would be the last one. This was from the very beginning. Also the reason we ended with "Things Change" Now… here's the part you want to hear about… We had almost completed the writing phase - I think I may even have been done - it was just amy finishing up TC… Sam Register at CN proposed the idea of doing a "rebranding" of the series. This was only development… By that time, I had already moved on to develop legion of super heroes (remember - we were told there would be no more)… I needed a new job! David had gone to law and order, so the development of a possible new show went to the very capable hands of Amy Wolfram. Along with Glen, and with Sam's input, they did a proposal that was sent to the brass in Atlanta. Ultimately they declined. So in many ways, and as hard as it is to imagine, the show was never technacaly "cancelled". There was an 11th hour possible reprieve, but it never came to pass. Had a season 6 been a serious possibility, we wouldn't have ended season 5 the way we did. As for what a "new show" would have been, my understanding is they were planning to expand the team with all the new characters. so there you have it. Q: What about the 7 cut episodes…can you tell us about that? rob hoegee: At that stage we weren't to the level of detal that would have given us specific episodes, but as I recall, we had planned to bring Slade into the storyline."
So they knew when making season 5 that it'd be the last one, and that's why they did Things Change for the ending. Later an attempt was made to get a season 6 but that didn't pan out and didn't effect the plans for season 5.
And if any fans don't like Things Change as the final then think of the Trouble in Tokyo movie as the final, as it came out after season 5 had ended.
I know this is weird, but I always thought that the Teen Titans ending episode was about letting things go, that sometimes attachments, when put through time will evolve to the immature eye as unacceptable but the mature eye, growing up, understands letting go of it. I'm surprised you don't like the ending.
And see I always thought that "someone was dead/as good as dead because they're a statue and now they are suddenly alive again without any explanation and their memory is gone" is different from "letting things go." See, I'd have an easier time with the message of letting things go if Terra had an explanation, had her memories back, and simply said "I don't want to be around you anymore, I don't want this life anymore. Let me go." Instead, we are presented with a puzzle, a mystery that reopens old wounds for one of our main characters and a mystery that the writers are not interested in solving. It erases Terra's own agency by wiping her memories, not allowing to have the choice of maturing and moving on. If her memories are still there, if the person that she was still exists inside of her mind, then she is being denied the choice of who she wants to be and what she does with herself. She can't move on because she's just as much imprisoned as if she was still a statue. And also quite frankly it's a pretty shitty message to your fanbase for your last episode - the capstone of your 5-season run - especially after this last season - a VERY plot-focused season has been about bringing people together and showing how united we're stronger - to make your message "Don't think about this major plot point, split apart, and things change and you should just fucking get over it, losers. How dare you want to stay connected to something from your past that had a major emotional impact on you."

Thunderbirds Are Go 301 “Chaos” Part 1 - New Episodes, Season 3 starts...
New Post has been published on https://filmreviewonline.com/2018/03/27/thunderbirds-are-go-301-chaos-part-1-start-of-season-3/
Thunderbirds Are Go 301 “Chaos” Part 1 - New Episodes, Season 3 starts...
In Thunderbirds Are Go 301 “Chaos” Part 1 the Hood’s newly formed Chaos Crew cause trouble around the globe.
With the start of Thunderbirds Are Go Season 3 the big question is are we going to finally have Jeff Tracy back? He is the Tracy boys father who had mysterously disappeared. We had references to him in Seasons 1 & 2. We been told to expect him in this season. Will we?
Thunderbirds Are Go Season 3 Episode 1 will first air on UK’s ITV Saturday March 31st 2018 at 8:30am – 9:05am. It is also showing on CITV.
The series is also available Amazon Prime where they will be referring to the second half of Season 2 as Season 4! So, I guess, this current batch will be called Season 5 & Season 6 on Amazon.

Niko And The Sword Of Light Cast And Crew On Successful Supporting Characters
Niko And The Sword Of Light Cast And Crew On Successful Supporting Characters
Amazon Prime’s new children’s series Nike and the Sword of Light has the distinction of winning an Emmy award on the strength of its pilot before airing any other episodes. And part of that success comes from well-drawn supporting characters like Lyra and Mandok. In fact, voice actors Kari Wahlgren and Tom Kinney told Comicon as much when we spoke to them during Comic-Con International: San…

Finally tracked down the dubious source of Starfire’s age! “Live Chat with Rob Hoegee (Teen Titans Story Editor)” on tumblr. He says “That's completely up to everyone's imagnation. We never decided on specific ages.” But he also says, as his own guess (“I can give you my guess”) “BB-14, Robin-16, Raven-16, Cyborg-18, starfire-156”. In short: no official canon ages!
That sounds like it was probably excerpted from his Live Chat interview on TitansGo.net back in the day. Kind of what I expected, lol. Also pretty in line with how I headcanon age them (though because of time passage I usually give a two-age range).

the missing scene - series finale
I believe Rob Hoegee left us to write this ourselves, so this is my attempt
“Welcome home Dad.”  Gordon offered quietly as his father was lead away to a full health scan followed by, almost certainly, a bout of indigestion.
Penny welcomed him home then took a few steps up the ramp to meet Gordon.
“How was it?  Are you all safe?”  She asked concerned.
“Yup, all safe, and it went really well, bar the Hood of course.”  He was wondering, hoping, why she had stayed in the hanger after the others had left.  His heart pounding at the sight of her, so perfect even after the pitched battle to save the island.
“Are you okay?”  He asked gently, almost a whisper.  She was close now, taking his hand, looking up into his face.
“I am now.”  She smiled, “I worried about you all while you were away, but...”  She stopped to check he was still breathing.  “It turns out that I do worry about you - in particular.”  Reaching that short distance to his lips, she kissed him.  “I really do!”  They kissed again.
“Now Gordon do something really important for me!”  Her voice suddenly very urgent - she had his whole attention!
“I need you to breath, Gordon please, breath!”

I really want new episodes of Teen Titans. Especially where the extended DC universe is concerned. I wanted to know exactly how Beast Boy got separated from the Doom Patrol and why they didn’t contact him until 5 months passed after Robotman’s coma. Where were they exactly when the Brotherhood were hunting young heroes? Why did Robin just up and leave Batman when he was barely a late teen and if he’s still in contact in anyway with the Batfamily.
Ever wonder where the Justice League were and how The Doom Patrol were nowhere to be found during the Brotherhood of Evil debacle? I really wanted to see more of Beast Boy’s relationship with Mento and how it contrasts with Robin’s relationship with Batman. I really want new episodes and give us some an actual satisfying conclusion.
(answering these together bc they kind of relate to each other)
to be honest, i prefer to keep the DC extended universe in a more headcanon-y context when it comes to TTA. it’s my understanding that the writers/producers (david slack, amy wolfram, rob hoegee, glen murakami, etc) have actually gone on record about the adult heroes, that they wanted to keep them out as much as possible for fear of them outshining the teenage heroes. there were also a number of legal embargoes forbidding the appearances of certain characters (which is why kid flash and wonder girl aren’t part of the main lineup even though they were part of the original NTT), and i think the creative team tended to view that as a blessing in disguise at the end of the day. and honestly, considering how dc has treated their “big names” at the expense of the titans, i don’t blame them.
buuuuuuut…there’s still some fun speculation to be had, and i’m nothing if not a big ol slut for TTA headcanons.
i get the sense that beast boy and robin both left their respective mentors by choice, in attempts to strike out on their own. they’re both very clever and independent people with savior complexes a mile wide; they’re also both very competent and capable heroes in their own right who impressed their mentors with their skills. even if the doom patrol or batman had reservations, they most likely figured they might as well give their proteges their blessing because they were gonna do it anyway.
(there are so many robin/beast boy parallels. so many. if nothing else, i agree that i’d like a hypothetical season 6 to give us at least one episode focusing on them.)
it’s possible that beast boy was kicked out of the doom patrol, but it’s not likely imo; i don’t think he would have been permitted to keep wearing the old colors if that had happened, if nothing else. he clearly still respects the doom patrol enough to keep wearing their uniform, and he obviously still considers them to be family, even though there was still a rift between him and mento.
robin most likely left batman under similar circumstances as the NTT comics, as those are the sources the cartoon draws from the most—he wanted to get out of batman’s shadow and be his own hero. a lot of people seem to think that robin and batman had a falling-out of some kind that made robin leave, since that happens in different versions of the story, but i don’t really see the case for that interpretation. the only real evidence that people have put forth for that theory is the way robin introduces himself to the thug in “go!”, but i don’t get “resentment toward batman” vibes, just “i’m tired of being tied to my mentor, i’m out on my own now, and i’m 100% ready and able to throw down with anyone who doesn’t think i can handle it” vibes.
don’t get me wrong, there had to be conflict leading up to it, but i think it was still ultimately a respectful parting of the ways.* he more than likely does keep in contact with the batfamily to some degree, but i doubt they’re calling every week or anything—maybe on birthdays or other days of significance, or after something like the apprenticeship happens. the batfamily at this point is also probably just batman, alfred, and batgirl, all of whom have their own missions to take care of—and i imagine a TTA-verse batgirl would hew closer to the pre-crisis version of the character, where she’s several years older than dick to begin with and is a grown adult woman with her own job and responsibilities.
as to why the doom patrol’s distress signal didn’t reach beast boy until five months after robotman’s deactivation, i don’t know. it’s possible that they’d been held captive for awhile and simply didn’t activate the distress call until they absolutely had to (likely, given mento’s pride and the fact that beneath it all he ultimately respects beast boy’s independence), or it just took the device that long to reach beast boy’s location while also avoiding being found by the brain or anyone else that would compromise it. i’m not sure it’s the sort of thing that needs explaining.**
i also don’t doubt that the brotherhood of evil kept the doom patrol busy through misdirection while they hunted down young heroes. i imagine that was primarily immortus’s job; he seems like a clever enough tactician on his own to keep the doom patrol out of the picture.
*(there’s also the fact that robin is a few years younger in TTA than he is in NTT, where the fact that dick grayson is now a legal adult who wants to keep doing hero work instead of going to college like bruce wants plays heavily into his desire to leave. there are different and more heated tensions there by design.
i think people also bring too much of the BTAS version of dick into it, the one where he thinks bruce is “going too far” in his crimefighting and leaves. not to put too fine a point on it, but that version of nightwing’s origin sucks. maybe don’t leave the titans out of the origin story of a character who wouldn’t exist without the titans, huh?)
also, since i first wrote this, the robin 80th anniversary anthology book was released, with a self-contained story about robin leaving batman that was written by marv wolfman. (from what i understand it’s quite good.) that story features a very amicable, professional split between the two, and marv wolfman is one of the few writers who really seems to get dick grayson as a character, so i’m gonna take his word for it.
** it’s worth noting that there’s a storyline in the early years of NTT that has some very strong parallels with the “homecoming” two parter; the discovery and repair of robotman especially plays out the same way almost beat for beat. that’s not super-relevant, just fun trivia.

Okay so I know a lot of people are making textposts about how the show impacted them because it’s ending and I just want to write my 2 cents.
When I was young my dad showed me Thudnerbirds. The first time I ever interacted with the property was with the 2005 movie, and while I now look back at it and cringe at how the writing is I still keep it close to me. Because I liked it so much (and the fact that my dad was also a fan) he got the original puppet show on TV, which I remember watching religiously over and over again. However I grew up forgetting about the show until about 2012/2013 when I was cleaning my room one day, found the DVDs, went ‘hey I used to like it maybe  I should rewatch this episode) and immediately got hooked again.
Now, when the reboot was announced I was ecstatic. I was getting more tbirds content! And while I was admittedly hesitant about it (I mean John was ginger instead of blonde it was weird to everyone) I still looked forward to it. I still remember when the premier came out I was in Hua Hin, typing away at my laptop and trying to not wake my sleeping parents as I hastily tried downloading the episode from some website, eager to watch it. I also remember not being able to seep, and remembering that I wanted to make content and at the time, knew how to make simple gifs.
However, what I didn’t know how much the show had impacted me personally. I remember the more Thunderbirds content I made, the more I wanted to create. I obsessed over every tutorial and scene down to the last frame, practising and evolving with my photoshop skills that went on. People who had followed me with my initial blog (before I remade, and remade again because I did a dumb and accidently deleted the other blog) probably remembers old sets such as the ‘Thunderbirds are Go gamescreen’ and ‘Thunderbirds + B99 intro cards’. It was the show that drove me to push, and I can’t deny that the fandom also helped nudge me into developing my photoshop skills to where they are now. If it wasn’t for this show I literally wouldn’t be making graphics and gifs at all, which is wild. Heck, if if wasn’t for this show, that ingited such a passion in me that sipraled into wanting to go into game design (I had a lot of ideas on different Thunderbirds games don’t judge me), I wouldn’t have wanted to go to my university, and I wouldn’t have met my current boyfriend, whom I love and cherish a lot.
In addition, I’ve met so many great people who I still am friends with today. To name a few: @lenle-g, @reallyhardy, @duchessnibenhu-ofpyromania, @soniabigcheese and many more who I’ve probably forgotten or aren’t on this platform anymore. They’ve helped me with my depression (as I was unmedicated within the first two or so years of the shows) and helped me in becoming just a little bit more confident in my creations, and continue to be patient and supportive to me even now.
I don’t know how to wrap this up. I only wish however that Gerry Anderson is still alive, just so he can see his creation getting the love and care the writers, producers, directors and all the set builders, 3d modellers, artist and everyone else working at WETA/iTV have put into this show. I am so glad to have watched this show, and be par in a supportive community. I’m sad to see TAG go, I feel like it’s just getting started; but above all else, I’m so so happy and thankful that the show existed in the first place.
Thank you Richard Taylor. Thank you Ben and Nick Foster. Thank you Rob Hoegee and all the other writers. Thank you Gerry and Sylvia Anderson. Thank you.

Me before watching SOS Part 2: I'm seeing some spoilers around that Thunderbird 4 might get damaged in the next episode, but I'm sure that won't happen. They already broke TB4 in 'Up from the Depths'. They wouldn't pull the same stunt twice, and how could they possibly make it more dramatic if they did?

Am I right in recalling that Rob Hoegee said a few years back that TAG Gordon didn't have a hydrofoil crash like his TOS counterpart?
Was today's ep intended to be the TAG equivalent?
