A little design for Classic Robotnik!
The Classic Era and Modern Era is partly split between how the humans view Robotnik.
In the Classic Era, he's viewed as a jolly good inventor who wants to open a theme park and sells NikNak Companions. He's the one who rediscovers the Mobian side of the planet, but keeps it a secret under wraps because he wants to use it as the beginning of his world domination.
The Modern Era is split to when the cast of fuzzy animals actually fight Eggman in the human side of the planet, where the humans get to see who Eggman actually is. Destroying his image and reputation.

that certainly puts Robotnik in a different light in my eyes, that makes so much sense, i never thought about how nuanced his backstory is, thank you so much for sharing, im saving this so that i remember
Movie Robotnik is such an incredibly nuanced portrayal of Robotnik, it’s genuinely become one of my favourites! I’m happy I could shed some more light onto him for you!
I really do have a lot of thoughts about the whole thing, in both movies even just watching them as they are, if you really pay attention to Robotnik’s scenes, he’s an asshole, sure, but his words aren’t… villain-like really at all, not in any literal sense. When he’s being the bad guy everything is played up to fit that role, because it’s the one everyone else has cast him in.
A lot of his dialogue is actually really sad when you look at the lines more isolated? The brief looks into his childhood, the implications that he expects to be alone in the end not because he leaves but because everyone leaves him. The parallels he draws between him and Sonic, about not belonging, the way that everything points to him being lonely. The way that him and Sonic are two sides of the same coin but he never get’s anything for his struggles. That he became so bitter and jaded because he never had any shred of love or care given to him his whole life. And if he ever did receive any, it always ended bad.
These aren’t the actions and words of an evil man, honestly, I think he’d be content just building robots if he didn’t feel the intense need to prove himself and do things so big and vast to finally be seen by someone. He wants to be recognized, to be praised and to be acknowledged, but at the same time he’s determined to make himself more unapproachable and unlikable than he actually is, because if he cuts everyone off first, he can claim it’s his doing, that he’s the one that needs no one, instead of living with the fact that no one wants him around. It’s very plainly obvious that no one’s ever given him a chance. Not even Sonic gave him a chance, and it’s really shocking and sad because he’s really just holding up the biggest facade I’m sure could be broken down if anyone bothered to look past it for even a moment.
No one’s ever looked his way for anything but the fact he builds crazy machines. His ‘scheme’s’ growing bigger and bigger make sense in the perspective of him wanting to do something so grand no one will be able to look away from him finally. It seems more like a desperate attempt to be seen in a twisted roundabout way, rather than a genuine desire for world domination, given all the nuance you can pick up on him
I personally really enjoy viewing his character this way! He’s a jackass and will absolutely cause problems on purpose, but I think in universe he gets way more hate than he really deserves.

Eggman Ship Tournament Nominations
Tumblr media
He is the Eggman and he's looking for love! Not that our genius doctor needs anyone in his life, as certainly his glory is beyond compare! But now that he's embraced parenthood, it wouldn't hurt to have someone around the egg-bases to help out with a few lesser tasks. That's why, our esteemed doctor is leaving it to the minions of the eggnet to debate who'll be worthy of his love! ...Or that's the flavour text, anyway. Now, onward to the actual tournament:
Our second tournament will be to figure out which is the most popular ship on tumblr dot com that features Dr. Eggman himself. This tournament is open to any version of the character from any media, not just game Eggman, so if you have a burning AoStH Robotnik ship in your heart, submit that, too!
This tournament will be done based on your submissions (plus a few ships that I like and want to include, but I'm holding off mentioning them because I'm curious to see how many nominations they'll get on their own)
Some house rules for submissions and the tournament in general:
Most importantly: BE NICE. No bashing of any ship will be welcomed. Use your propaganda to uplift your own ship, not put down others
Any Eggman (or Robotnik) ships from any media is welcome - be it the games, comics, cartoons or anything else
Only ships including the character Dr. Eggman will be accepted (e.g. Eggman/Starline, Robotnik/Agent Stone, etc.). Ships for other characters in the series that do not involve Eggman (e.g. Tails/Kit, Knuckles/Rouge, Amy/Tekno, etc.) will get their own tournaments later on. Submissions that do not follow this rule will be ignored
Submit as many ships as you want, but don't spam submit a single ship
No Eggman x OC ships. All of your OCs are great and we wouldn't want anyone's feelings hurt by seeing them knocked out :( For the sake of this tournament, an OC is a fan-made character that has never been used nor was created to be used in licensed Sonic media (So yes, you can submit cancelled character ships if any of those apply to Eggman)
We do accept crossover ships, but only with media that Sonic has officially crossed over with. Meaning stuff like Eggman/Dr. Wily and Eggman/Bowser would count, but Eggman/Dionysus would not count (as much as that breaks my heart). And yes, since people asked last time: characters included in Smash Bros. are fair game for crossovers. I may make posts asking for feedback on crossovers with franchises I'm less familiar with
Polycules are welcome
If you have a specific version of the ship that you like, specify what it is and this will be counted as separate to the general ship, e.g. Eggman/world domination (general) and Robotnik/world domination (SatAM) would be included as separate ships
Also, we didn't have a rule about this last time and honestly no one submitted ships that fell into this category, so it wasn't a problem, but I'm aware that the blog has more followers this time around, so I want to add that I won't be adding ships involving Eggman being paired with characters he sees as his kids (Sage, Metal Sonic). For other things I'm concerned might make folks uncomfortable, I'll run polls to gauge feedback to see if they'll be included or not. Like I said, I don't think this'll be an issue, but mentioning it just in case ANYWAY, that's the long list of rules done, so here's the submission form:
Submissions will be open until Saturday 27th May or until I feel we have enough to run a tournament. I don't expect this one will be as big as the Sonic one, so I might cap it at 16 or 32 ships, if we reach that many

I’ve seen a take someone has on Eggman and since you get a lot of Eggman related asks, I’ve decided to get your thoughts on it because i’m not sure where I stand with it.
They lean really into the environmental vs industrial element of the classic games, but Eggman’s motivation is because he sees nature as weakness. People can die, but machines can be rebuilt even after being destroyed. Taking a vulnerable lifeform like a flicky and turning it into a badnik where it can do so much more is revolutionary, and more utilitarian. His empire is rooted in building something indestructible, and his constant ability to squash nature under his shoe is precisely why he should. The environment is weak, and he can use it to make his empire indestructible. He’s a genius because he sees the world this way, and clearly anyone who doesn’t agree with him isn’t very smart and lost in their delusions of nature and treehugging.
I’m pulling a lot of this description from what they’ve talked about, but it sounds kinda weird to me. Not sure if I hate it though, it’s just different from how a lot of the fandom writes him, which leads me to believe it might actually be good. Any thoughts?
It's not full-on SatAM, but does kind of veer into that territory, in that it simplifies a key aspect of this franchise's nuanced take on the nature VS technology motif.
Because while Eggman obviously prides himself on his genius, believes his take on the world is the only one that matters, and that his tech is better than anything else... intruding on nature and using it for his own nefarious purposes is entirely a casual affair for him. It's not something he thinks about too hard one way or the other, because it's as irrelevant to him as everything else that isn't himself. Game Eggman's technology is a convenient extension of his genius, whereas with SatAM, it's sort of the opposite way around, where it's the technology itself that's presented as the domineering evil force, with Julian simply being a convenient source for it.
The reason for the rampant pollution and general disarray seen in the likes of CD's Bad Futures is because Eggman doesn't care. He doesn't go out of his way to make everything look like that, as evidenced by how pristine Metropolis is in Forces, he just doesn't care about the state of anything, or anyone, as long as they're serving his needs. SatAM Robotnik had an anti-nature agenda, whereas Game Eggman is a massive hedonist of the most callous and cruel calibre.

Avatar Ash & Co. Pokémon Teams
So obviously traveling in a new region with new companions means new Pokémon, but I've never actually said what any of those new Pokémon are. So here we go!
(I'll draw the new new ones at some point. Also by the current point in the AU timeline the group's almost but not quite at the third gym (Anime Pacing Baybeeee!) so most of them haven't evolved yet. And they're in catch order.)
Ash's Team
Pikachu (obviously)
Bullot The Peashooter Pokémon Grass/Flying Ability: Sniper Description: A green parrot with a disproportionately large head and beak, and a circular hole in the front of the beak in place of nostril holes, which it fires seeds from at high speeds.
Jellobe The Jelly Fish Pokémon Water/Psychic Ability: Gooey Description: You know those goldfish with the big lumpy foreheads. This is one of those exaggerated so it looks like it's about 70% brain by mass (because it is), which is floating inside a levitating, spherical, water-filled jellyfish. Based on brains in jars, fish in bowls, and symbiotic relationships. The Water-Type Starter.
Pengaz The Pingas Pokémon Normal Ability: E E G It's that one meme Fakemon that looks like a Robotnik head.
Ralts (Mutant Forme) The Altered Pokémon Poison/Dark A mutated version of Ralts created by a mad scientist bent on world domination. It was created by splicing Ralts DNA with Alolan Grimer DNA, resulting in it consisting mainly of dark purple goo, which it has trouble controlling the consistency of. Its hair is uneven and an even darker shade of purple than the rest of it, its horns are jagged, overgrown and toxic green (its eyes are also green but you can't usually see that thanks to the hair), and its right arm has the little crystals Alolan Grimer and Muk have while the left only exists at all when Ralts focuses on it. Despite all the oddities and how painful they look at first glance, by all accounts Ralts is a perfectly happy, healthy Pokémon.
Miku's Team
Farfetch'd (already mentioned) Ability: Defiant
Flindit The Sharpshooter Pokémon Fire/Rock Ability: Blaze Description: A small red and grey rattlesnake with a piece of flint in place of a rattle and two rows of smaller flint spines running down its back. It can crack the flint on the end of its tail like a whip to shoot high-speed sparks at far-off opponents. The Fire-Type Starter.
Rolitroli The Transport Pokémon Type: Bug/Steel Ability: Off-Road (Certain Moves and terrain cause the Pokémon to change Forme) Description: Has two Forms. In On-Road Forme it looks like a cross between a centipede and a bus, while in Off-Road Forme it curls up into a wheel. It On-road is the default, and it changes into Off-road if it uses a Ground or Rock type move or is battling on rugged terrain. This boosts its speed and Physical Defense, but lowers its Physical Attack. It's the middle stage of one of the region's Early Route Bugs.
Cherrim ...This Pokémon already exists and only has one possible ability.
Meowth (Mutant Forme) The Cheshire Pokémon Type: Ghost Ability: Shadow Tag Description: Made by the same scientist as Ralts. A tall, lanky Meowth that's very obviously made of fabric. Mostly purple and stripey, with actual socks for paws, a button in place of a coin, eyes with alternating green and blue rings, the head of a broom in place of the usual curl at the end of its tail, and a massive shark-tooth grin. Based on the Cheshire Cat, a witch's cat, sock monkeys, and haunted dolls.
Jet's Team
Pyukumuku Ability: Innards Out
Snugleaf The Bundled Pokémon Grass/Bug Ability: Grass Pelt Description: A pale yellowish-green spider wrapped up in a big bundle of bright green leaves, with only its nervous-looking face and front four legs peeking out. The second stage of the Grass Starter.
Bob-Omb The Detonation Pokémon Fire/Steel Ability: Blast Shield (The Pokémon is immune to explosion-based moves, and can use Self-Destruct, Explosion, and Misty Explosion without fainting) Description: It's a Bob-Omb, what do you want from me?
Eevee Ability: Adaptability
Psyduck (Mutant Forme) The Fucking Snapped Pokémon Psychic/Electric Ability: Electrokinesis (Electric Type Moves also do Psychic Type damage [follows similar rules to Flying Press]) Description: Yep, all three of them ended up with one of that nutjob's creations. Jagged black-and-yellow feather pattern, ruffled feathers, angry eyes. Its eternal headache now effects a different part of its brain due to overexposure to electricity, unlocking the full extent of its psychic abilities, overriding its original type, and changing the pain's effect from confusion to white-hot unending RAGE.
SMG29's Team
Nidorina Ability: Poison Point Well, Female Nidoran is #29 after all.
Eggdog The Eggdog Pokémon Egg/Dog Ability: Bork
SMG30's Team
Glimmet Ability: Toxic Debris
Donandan Shuckle (yeah I settled on Donanda as the region name. Luke's Australian, sue me.) The Mold Pokemon Bug/Steel Ability: Heatproof Description: The shell is bigger, kind of blocky, and dull green and metallic grey instead of red and white. The head and legs look more-or-less the same.
Jessie's Team
Note: Jessie and James decided to stick to two previous team members each (outside of emergencies) so they could focus on training the new recruits.
Wobbuffet Ability: Telepathy (by process of elimination because there is no way that any of Team Rocket's Pokémon have Shadow Tag)
Seviper Ability: Shed Skin
Donandan Pikachu The Scorpion Mouse Pokémon Electric/Poison Ability: Contagious (Any physical contact will either poison the other Pokémon, change their ability to Contagious, or both) Description: A bit shorter and bulkier than the usual Pikachu, with darker fur, a long vertical stripe running from the top of its head to the base of its tail (it still has the two horizontal stripes on its back), the cheek pouches are now raised and angular like frills or tufts of fur, the tail is mostly the same except it has that black marking on the end people used to keep thinking the normal one had and a long stinger thing running down from the bottom corner of the end, the black on the ears is bigger and a bit jagged like Pikachutwo's. The idea of Jessie just randomly ending up with a special Pikachu that isn't Ash's amuses me for some reason.
Vineper The Scrawny Pokémon Grass/Normal Ability: Dry Skin Description: Look up blunt-headed tree snakes. That but as a cartoon character.
James's Team
Amoongus Ability: Regenerator This is partially because I'm planning on introducing a regional variant of Foongus with a new evolution, the third gym leader has that evolution as their Ace, and I want James's Amoongus to develop a rivalry with that Pokémon. Because Pokémon Anime.
Mime Jr. Ability: Filter
Grattle The Padded Pokémon Grass/Ground Ability: Thick Fat Description: Cross between a rattlesnake and the Tsuchinoko. It's a counterpart to Vineper.
Geomatrix The Singularity Pokémon Ghost/Psychic Ability: Event Horizon (Prevents all Pokémon on the field from escaping until this Pokémon either faints or wins) Description: A bunch of colorful geometric shapes orbiting a single point. At that point is the actual Pokémon, which is microscopic and can only interact with anything on the Macro scale by using its powerful telekinetic abilities.
Not Caught but Follows the Characters
Doodoll The Hand-Drawn Pokémon Ghost Ability: Patch Job (When the Pokémon is switched out, the Pokémon that replaces it regains some HP) Description: A black-and-white paper doll. Doodoll and its evolutions feel the pain of nearby people and Pokémon as if it was its own, and will do whatever it can to heal them so that the pain stops, though some will actually use this ability to actively seek out those who need help. This one in particular has decided to be the TRio's new medic and isn't taking no for an answer, and none of them have thought to just catch it because they're idiots.
Grant's Team
Bunnelby Ability: Pickup
Donandan Bidoof The Plump Mouse Pokémon Dark/Normal Ability: Contrary Description: Its fur is now a dark muddy brown instead of the usual bright brown, and is so soggy and shaggy that it covers its eyes. Unlike most Regional variants, there is no difference in behavior or personality from the usual version.
Snizzle The Frost Pokémon Ice Ability: Icy Scales Description: Ice Snake.
Laser's Team
Buneary Ability: Clutz
Heeliant The Heel Pokémon Bug/Dark Ability: Prankster Description: Anthropomorphic ant that cheats at boxing. It and a Bug/Fighting Type called Roughiant (the Comeback Pokémon) are branching evolutions of a pure Bug type called Sgrub (the Larva Pokémon). Sgrub has absolutely terrible stats and the ability Defeatist, and evolves into Roughiant if it knocks out 100 Pokémon or Heeliant if it faints 100 times. It's a sports movie Pokémon line. With ants.
Pondypus The Platypus Pokemon Water Ability: Poison Point Actually I have a picture of this one
Tumblr media
It's an old picture, admittedly, so I'll redo it when I draw the other ones.

aometimes i remember archie sonic lore and it amazes me how they just let the writers rite some of the most absurd shit in existence
the reasons mobians exist and why theres like three sentient species on the planet mobius sounds like something out of a sci fi horror
at some point silver accodentlly fuvked the future with sonic trying to help it and it resulted in shadow marrying sally and being tyrant king? also sonic had kids with sally and they didnt let the artists give sonic a full breakdown (cause mandates) after finding out his kids are gone cause of time shenanigans
30 years later issues are just a Read, a very absurd read
zone jail is thing, and every officer is just sonic and friends with a z in front of their names (example: zonic), also buff amy is an actual prisoner in that jail along with mephiles who's really chill
the chaos emeralds spawn from a planet where thousands of chaos emeralds spew out of it (if im remembering that part correctly)
knuckles' dad experiemented on his egg when he wasnt born yet, ??? i forgot why but i think involves him being green at some point
theres a whole prophecy involving tails becoming a god, and he becomes this giant with abs and the worst thing iv seen in my life with the worst panels ive laid my eyes on after every panel drawn by penders and he has to kill mogul (who doesnt die for some reason despute that being part of his destiny i believe) and hes told about it through a weird ass uncle
also tails' parents are revolutionaries who think the acorn family have to be taken down, this is actually one of the more interesting arcs
sally was with geoffrey saint john who while not having a canonical age in a flashback its shown hes much older than alias (who in currebt time is sallys brother and 21, sally is 16) (im taking this information with a grain of salt i cannot prove this one yet)
shadow has a brother, this is the least ridiculous thing ive mentioned
charmy is royalty, married to another bee girl, and got brain damage at some point after eggman tried to suck the life out of every mobian he caught to fuel his machines and this is after making sonic believe he disintegrated/killed all his friends and everyone he knew
eggman is not human and neither is maria and gerald theyre an evolutionary/mutated offshoot from humans after aliens decided to experiement on humanity by dumping weird shit on the planet which is why theres talking anthropomorphic animals, also the offshoot is supposed to be distinguished by four fingers but they forget this deatik if theyre actully importnt to the plot or have relevance
scourge the hedgehog(anti sonic/ bad boy green sonic) has daddy issues, this is shown through a fathers day mini where in an attempt to get at sonic in his own home finds Jules (sonics dad who was roboticized at some point) and this man just calls out this green bastard until hes crawling out the window trying not to cry
Amy has a cousin named Rob 'o the hedge whos a prince if im remembering correctly, amy is related to royalty yep
kneecaps the echidna
eggman canonically dies early in the comic and is replaced by his alternate self who did achieve world domination and is modern eggman as we know it, (dead eggman being SatAM robotnik/classic robotnik if im not mistaken on this)
is this all? no no its not this shits the longest running comic based on a video game characters and it just got increasingly more absurd

tw: images of blood and gore and talk about blood and gore.
Okay so I have this AU/fic that I keep rotating in my mind and I want to share it bc even though it probably won’t ever be a fic, I want to make some concept sketches for it and MAYBE some animations (MAYBE). I made this particular sketch while working on a different project, hence the “I was supposed to do my project”
Background:
In this particular setup, Eggman is less of a world-dominating villain and more of a morally grey CEO (like Elon Musk but arguably less evil). He still contributes to pollution, thanks to his factories/warehouses, but he isn’t actively trying to take over the planet. Sonic still tries to dismantle his machinery tho because he doens’t like the pollution that they cause.
The Chaos Emeralds aren’t a thing in Sonic’s planet (yet). They still have the Master Emerald though and its shards sort of act as the individual Chaos Emeralds. When united into the Master Emerald, it’s as powerful as all 7 Chaos Emeralds and can turn people who come into contact with it Super. This is relevant to the plot.
Sonic and co. (except Eggman) have the generally exact same stories/histories, just without the 7 Chaos Emeralds.
Actual Plot:
The planet is experiencing an energy crisis. Robotnik Industries obviously has a role to play in this, as one of the largest energy consumers and waste producers in the world. However, rather than trying to put restrictions on the company, GUN-- which benefits highly from Robotnik Industries’ weaponry production-- decides to set their eyes to the stars in search of a new energy source.
According to ancient echidna manuscripts, evidence from archeological digs, and mysterious energy pings from beyond the solar system, the planet of Mobius used to have 7 Chaos Emeralds along with the singular Master Emerald, but a mysterious cataclysm sent them off the planet. Seeing no reason to doubt the glaring evidence of their existence, GUN initiates a mission to retrieve the emeralds as a way to make more energy. To gather a crew for the mission, they open 150 slots for potential crewmates to try out and begin training.
Sonic and co understand that GUN would probably use the emeralds for their own benefit. Wanting to keep an eye on the organization, they try out for the mission, with some of the friends staying behind to keep watch over Mobius.
Those who go on the mission are: Sonic, Knuckles, Shadow, and Rouge.
Those who stay behind are: Tails, Amy, Cream, and the Chaotix.
Initially, Tails wanted to be apart of the mission but was declined because he was considered “too young,” despite his valor in previous battles. Sonic tried to vouch for him, but when Tails realized he’d have more of an impact as part of the on-planet engineer team and Mission Control, he opted to stay behind and participate from Mobius.
Once aboard the ship-- they couldn’t use the Ark because it wasn’t meant to leave orbit-- the crew settles in. Knuckles realizes he very easily gets space-sick (due to the fluorescent light and sterile, enclosed environment) and enters a state of lethargy and weakness that he has to fight against whenever he’s aboard. Sonic doesn’t like the limited space, but finds himself to be very popular with the crewmates and finds ways to run around. He too misses the open space though. Shadow fares the best, with the ship giving him a sense of nostalgia for the Ark. He seems a tad more relaxed and often compares he experience on the Ark to that of the ship.
Aboard the ship, the the crewmates are split into Squadrons, with each Squadron containing 4 members: a pilot, a searcher, a guard, and a medic. Each Squadron gets its own little ship for the purpose of exploring planets with Chaos energy signatures. Sonic, Knuckles, and Shadow all end up being in the same Squad. Sonic is the pilot, Shadow is the searcher, and Knuckles is the guard. It is here they meet Molly, their medic. Molly, who I based off of Molly from Sonic X, is a human from Mobius. When she was 15, Shadow saved her from a falling building during the invasion of the Black Arms. Now, at the age of 25 (they’re all in their 20s), she feels that she would be able to repay him somehow.
The story basically follows the crew’s adventure as they search 10 planets for the Chaos Emeralds. Each character has a moment where they almost lose their life, but somehow pull through.
Knuckles gets his head busted open from an ice-cave collapse (shown in the image), Shadow has to have Molly surgically remove a parasite from his side, Sonic nearly gets crushed or nearly drown (tbh idk what happens to him yet), and Molly... I actually haven’t thought about hers yet.
Eventually, they get all the Chaos Emeralds and start to head home. By now, they’ve travelled obscenely far from Mobius. Like, they’ve left the solar system. To achieve this without needing stasis, they use teleportation rings, much like the mechanism they had for the Blue Typhoon in Sonic X. However, the mechanism was destroyed at some point, and now they’re stranded. Thankfully, Sonic, Shadow, and Knuckles have heightened sensitivity to Chaos Energy and deduce that the combined energy of the 7 emeralds are as powerful as the Master Emerald when put together. They manage to convince the entire crew to let Sonic and Shadow go Super and chaos-control them home, taking short intermittent rests at the planets they’ve visited in a sort of “planet-hopping” fashion. They make it home and they manage to de-fuse from the emeralds and “accidentally” spread them across Mobius to make it more difficult for GUN to get ahold of them, thus establishing the presence of the Chaos Emeralds.
The end.
oh! I’m thinking of a couple sub-plot ideas where they come into contact with other societies and try to communicate with them through pictures and video, as well as a bunch of other little fun “slice of life” bits to add here and there.

Ah, Snively! You've been updating again.
It's been such a long time since I last heard from you that I-
...
I, uh-
...
I assumed you'd died?
...
*cough*
Tumblr media
You know, this happens to me quite often. Either people assume I'm dead or they just plain forget I exist. It's a little vexing but often quite advantageous.
Anonymous asked:
Is there anyone or anything you ever miss from Overland?
Not really, no. I mean. I. No. Absolutely not. There's no one and nothing for me there.
I do wonder if the mansion I grew up in is still there.
Anonymous asked:
What's your favorite thing that you ever built or invented?
Did you know I'm the one who designed the little flying spy cameras that used to buzz around Robotropolis? They're not my favorite things, they're just things, but I felt a little like bragging for a second. Only a little. They're just flying cameras, so it's not like it was that wild an idea, but it is interesting that I had to come up with it. But I suppose that was my job back then. Security.
I'm not going to tell you my favorite thing because that's telling. I'd rather SHOW YOU.
Anonymous asked:
Dear Snively I know that you and the Mobians didn't get along with each other, but how did your sister Hope get along with them?
Strangely well, I believe. She has abysmal taste. As for them... well. You know, she's rather innocent looking; she's just a kid. Of course they were nice to her.
Of course when I was first in Mobian lands I, too, was just a kid and did not get treated that well.
Anonymous asked:
I know that you have a desire for world domination, but what do you think of gardening?
I enjoy growing plants but I don't often get to because I'm always moving around lately. It's just too hard to keep them alive with my busy schedule. Perhaps I should try my hand at succulents.
Actually that gives me a great idea for--No. no no. I can't tell you that.
Anonymous asked:
You know, I'm curious- what were you doing between the time you parted from the Freedom Fighters after helping them escape Robo-Robotnik's sattelite, and the time Eggman recaptured you? And how DID Eggman finally manage to find you?
Hiding. Duh. I suppose it no longer matters if I keep this secret. Robotropolis was riddled with secret passageways and hidey holes that I created over the years. Basically I was holed up in a panic room until I ran out of supplies and had to return to the surface and, well, that didn't go so well did it?

Even as a huge lover of dark stuff and angst, I just really don't want Eggman to be a sad tragic deeply troubled emotional lonely character himself. He doesn't need that in order to have depth and entertainment or even relatability. He's supposed to be an evil crazy silly fucked up guy who wants to dominate the world and it's badass and cool and fun and he has a blast with it. He's so passionate and happy in it, far from miserable.
I love how Eggman actually does have it set up perfectly for them to make him a tragic character in the games like with the Robotnik family tragedy and deaths- but he actually isn't. He has never shown himself to deeply affected and troubled by Maria or even Gerald's deaths. In fact quite the opposite as he seems to have low empathy, Gerald's death hasn't been implied to impact him and he's made it especially clear that he doesn't give a shit about Maria lol
That's why I always want Eggman as the perpetrator with the exceptions of him being so devastated and angry by his failures he can get suicidal in destructive dangerous ways that hurts everyone else too (happened in Adventure), or he gets what he deserves for his fucked up crimes (like Shadow killing him in Shadow 2005), or an accident (the Egg Carrier crashing and killing him in 06) though those are all non canon because he's simply too powerful and indestructible hehe
And the exceptions hardly takes up any of his character, which is what adds impact when he does deal with some shit that actually affects him. He doesn't live feeling miserable all the time, he's a very passionate, confident, determined character who loves himself and believes in his dreams and fights hard for them. That's the part that's really relatable, not putting him through uncharacteristic angst that he'd never be impacted by in the games.
Other than that, have him make things tragic and fucked up for others instead. Show how much of a cruel cold bastard he can be towards to put others through agony and pain and laugh in their faces. Show how much of a thrilling dangerous threat he is and all the reasons he's the bad guy. And he can be a funny and epic badass at the same time, how cool is that? He already has so much potential without suffering tragedy and angst himself.

heyyy so I recently just got hooked on the sonic movies and was scrolling thru ur blog and noticed a lot of “other sonics” (shadow, super Sonic, etc) I’ve always been a fan of sonic, but I’m pretty new to all of this. considering the post credit scene from the sec movie showcases shadow, do u think you could do like a quick “Sonic for dummies” thing for me?? I feel behind and you seemed like the best person to ask 💕💕
Alright, this took a while to make. Since summarizing 31 years of videogames would be nearly impossible for me, I decided to write a little post summarizing Shadow’s story in the videogames.
It’s not...great, but it’s something. Hope it’s helpful!
BACKSTORY
Fifty years before the events of the game, there was a scientific research facility on Earth's orbit, known as the Space Colony ARK. It was created and led by Professor Gerald Robotnik, world renowed scientist and grandfather of Dr. Eggman. He lived in the ARK with his beloved granddaughter, Maria Robotnik. Unfortunately, Maria had developed a terminal illness known as NIDS (or neuro-immune deficiency syndrome), that had no known cure.
Tumblr media
One day, the president of the United Federation (USA, basically) reached out to Gerald and tasked him with developing "Project Shadow", something that would supposedly lead to the discovery of immortality. Gerald was hesitant at first, but after realizing that this research could help cure Maria's condition, he agreed.
Gerald worked tirelessly to develop this project, his studies even involving the Chaos Emeralds. In a "Shadow the Hedgehog" (2005), we find out he even went as far as to make a deal with Black Doom, leader of a dangerous alien race, who gave Gerald some genetic material in exchange for something (we'll go back to this later).
After some failed attempts (namely the Biolizard, a giant reptile creature which couldn't be controlled), Gerald finally developed the Ultimate Lifeform, Shadow the Hedgehog. He was immortal, fast, incredibly powerful, but to keep him from being used as a weapon, Gerald gave Shadow a soul modeled after his granddaughter's. Over time, Shadow and Maria developed a close bond, becoming best friends and practically siblings.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, this did not last. G.U.N (the United Federation's military), grew afraid of Shadow's power and decided that the project needed to be shut down. In order to keep this secret, all traces of Project Shadow's existence needed to be eliminated. Soldiers invaded the ARK, destroying all evidence and killing every scientist involved in the project, except for Gerald.
Shadow and Maria ran for the escape pods, but were intercepted by soldiers and Maria was shot. With the last of her strength, she ejected Shadow, not before asking him to bring hope to humanity.
Tumblr media
Afterwards, GUN blamed all the deaths on Gerald, claiming they were caused by a biohazard in the ARK. He was then imprisioned and forced to continue his work. However, after learning of Maria’s face, Gerald went insane with grief and began divising a plan to get revenge on humanity. Before his execution, Gerald somehow reprogrammed the ARK to crash into the Earth upon receiving the seven Chaos Emeralds, and altered Shadow’s mind so he would carry out this plan.
SONIC ADVENTURE 2
Fifty years later, Dr. Eggman breaks into a GUN base in order to find his grandfather’s secret project, which turns out to be Shadow. Thanks to Gerald’s meddling, Shadow doesn’t remember Maria’s last wish, instead thinking she wanted revenge. Seeing Eggman as a means to achieve that, the hedgehog “pledges allegiance” to the doctor. He tells Eggman about the Eclipse Cannon and how he they need the seven Chaos Emeralds to power it. Eggman, seeing this is as his ticket to world domination, works with Shadow to get the stones (unaware of the hedgehog’s true plan)
Tumblr media
People see Shadow stealing a Chaos Emerald and think he’s actually Sonic, so now the hedgehog is being chased by GUN for a crime he didn’t commit (yeah the game makes a point that Sonic and Shadow look identical even though they don’t just roll with it please). This leads to the first of many fights between Sonic and Shadow. The bad guys are joined by Rouge the bat, a treasure hunter who offers to help the duo get the Chaos Emeralds they need. However, it’s revealed that Rouge is actually a spy working with the goverment.
Tumblr media
Anyway, a lot of stuff happens after that. It’s a big race between Team Sonic and the bad guys to see who can find the emeralds first, yadda yadda yadda. Eggman blows up the freaking moon, points a gun at Amy, Sonic gets ejected into space, etc, etc. Play the game.
Finally, Eggman places the final Chaos Emerald into the Eclipse Cannon and a pre-recorded message from Gerald plays. The ARK will now crash into the earth, as a way to get revenge on the humans that took his granddaughter away from him. Now the heroes (and Eggman) need to come up with a way to stop this.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Shadow awaits for Maria’s wish of revenge to be fullfilled. However, a short chat with Amy causes the hedgehog to remember what Maria actually wanted (for him to make humanity happy). This leads to the grand finale, where Sonic and Shadow use the emeralds to turn Super and stop the ARK.
Tumblr media
However, Shadow is unable to mantain his Super form. After having fullfilled the promise he made to Maria, the hedgehog falls to the planet. Everyone assumes he died and mourns the loss of earth’s hero.
Tumblr media
EVERYTHING ELSE
After this it’s going to be super abridged and rushed, okay? In Sonic Heroes, it’s revealed that Shadow is alive. Rouge finds him inside an Eggman base. Shadow, Rouge and E-123 Omega, an Eggman robot who hates his creator for abandoning him in a storage closet, join forces. This is the origin of Team Dark, they’re basically Shadow’s friend group.
Tumblr media
However, his fall from space gave Shadow amnesia, he doesn’t remember who he is. The game, “Shadow the Hedgehog” happens and the previously mentioned Black Doom invades the planet and tricks Shadow into helping him get the Chaos Emeralds in exchange for telling him about his past.
Tumblr media
The game is very messy with it’s multiple endings, what you need to know is that, in the end, it’s revealed that Black Doom made a deal with Gerald, so in fifty years Shadow would deliver the Chaos Emeralds to him. Our beloved hedgehog turns super and defeats the alien invaders.
Ever since that moment, Shadow decided to leave his past behind and focus on protecting the world, just like Maria wanted. He starts working with GUN (it’s unknown if he’s an actual agent or just freelance) and continues his mission. Shadow flies solo most of the time, but when he doesn’t, he’s joined by Rouge and Omega.
AAAND YEAH, THAT’S THE GIST OF IT! You should probably do some more research on your own, Shadow is a really beloved and interesting character.

『robotnik birthright au』
❝ What if the interrelation between Sonic and Dr. Robotnik ran deeper than we all thought? ❞ #robotnik birthright au
Tumblr media Tumblr media
oh, sonic, my brave hero, aren't you forgetting to run from daddy dearest?
Tumblr media
Since he was a baby hedgehog, Sonic had been raised by Robotnik and over the years he’d picked up on some of his adoptive father’s more odious peculiarities and habits. However, Sonic left the Eggman Empire in pursuit of defeating the antagonist after having met Tails.
➝ Used to hunt Robotnik’s enemies for him. Which is where his infamous nickname “Blue Blur” originates from; Robotnik’s enemies thought he was a new weapon created by the mad doctor until they realized it was actually a hedgehog. ↳ The primal desire for dominance has been etched so deeply on Sonic’s soul it's irrevocable, having left countless cowering before him. These past experiences make him more susceptible to needing that sense of total control over others again. ↳ Now, as a hero, Sonic will occasionally go too far in ravaging enemies; to the point where it’s just cruel and his teammates have to settle him and his impulsivity down.
➝ Robotnik had subjected Sonic to innumerable mindgames growing up—ranging from physical beatings to psychological torture. Every act of maltreatment was for the sake of having Sonic completely submissive to him; because even if Robotnik felt some type of corrupted affection for the hedgehog, he still didn’t tolerate disobedience. He wasn't a robot, after all, but an organic being.
➝ Doesn’t want to view Metal Sonic as a brother, but secretly does harbor a distorted love for the robot deep down. Metal was created specifically after Sonic left Robotnik, as a replacement for his estranged son, his son who had betrayed him. And that’s why Robotnik seems to only treat Metal as a son-like figure and expects so much of him; expects him to utterly destroy Sonic. ↳ Hates being called ‘Big bro’ by Orbot & Cubot. ↳ Sometimes various badniks who recognize Sonic are hesitant to fight against him, causing them not to attack and leaving him an advantageous opening. This leaves Sonic grappling with his inner-turmoil—because fighting against those who don’t want to goes against his new set of morals.
➝ Sonic still has little knowledge on the way robots operate, but holds them in high reverence, even after splitting from Robotnik. The mindset that the world would be a better place had everyone been dismantled from their foolish whims and ‘needs’ still lingers in the back of Sonic’s mind.

Started to watch "Pinky and the Brain" (the 1995 series) for the first time.
And damn, first I dare everyone who don't ship em to watch "A Pinky and the Brain Christmas".
Second, I want a scene in Sonic 3, or any Sonic media, with Stone and Robotnik that equals the overly emotional, full of tears and happiness finale of that episode.
A scene where Robotnik is on the verge of conquering the world, he just has to press one button and that's it, he's about to own the whole world, but then he notices a latte in the room or anything else that reminds him of Stone, who has left because Robotnik really hurt him this time. So instead of following through his plans of world domination, he snaps, destroys all of his machinery designed to take over the world and bursts into tears.
Because the truth is he doesn't give a shit about world domination if Stone is not here with him.
(gasp! that'd make a perfect Stobotnik fanfic!)
GASP! I've just remembered! Didn't the military call Robotnik a "LAB RAT"?? He shares way more common traits with Brain than I thought!
I swear, you can hear Brain's love for Pinky just in his voice. Speaking of voice, Maurice Lamarche (Brain's voice) actually cried while recording that scene. You can hear it.
Either way, "A Pinky and the Brain Christmas" is an average, even meh episode, but the finale largely compensates for it and wins it all.

The Top 5 Most Iconic Video Game Villians
A good villain plays a crucial role in a video game, adding depth, challenge, and excitement to the overall experience. A well-crafted antagonist creates a sense of purpose for the player, driving them to overcome obstacles and engage in the game’s narrative. A compelling villain possesses memorable traits, such as a unique backstory, motivations, and formidable abilities, which make them captivating and unpredictable. They act as the primary source of conflict, challenging the player’s skills, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities. A well-designed villain can evoke emotional responses, ranging from fear and hatred to admiration and curiosity, making the game more immersive and memorable. Ultimately, a good villain elevates the storytelling and gameplay elements, leaving a lasting impression on players long after they have completed the game.
Number 5 - Doctor Robotnik
Sonic the Hedgehog
Tumblr media
Doctor Ivo Robotnik, commonly known as Doctor Eggman, is a prominent villain in the Sonic the Hedgehog video game series. He was conceived and created by Naoto Ohshima, the original character designer of Sonic the Hedgehog.
Doctor Robotnik made his first appearance in the original Sonic the Hedgehog game released by Sega in 1991. As Sonic's nemesis, he is an evil genius and mad scientist with a relentless obsession for world domination. His primary goal is to enslave the world's population of animals by transforming them into robotic minions using his technological prowess.
An interesting trivia fact about Doctor Robotnik is that his appearance was inspired by the aesthetic of the United States president, Theodore Roosevelt. This inspiration is evident in Robotnik's mustache and overall physique. The connection between the villain and the former president adds a unique twist to the character's visual portrayal.
Over the years, Doctor Robotnik has become an iconic figure in the Sonic franchise, appearing in numerous games, television series, and even comics. His role as Sonic's arch-nemesis has solidified his status as one of gaming's most recognizable villains.
Number 4 -Bowser
Super Mario Bros.
Tumblr media
Bowser, the iconic villain from the Super Mario Bros. game franchise, was conceived and created by Shigeru Miyamoto, the renowned game designer at Nintendo. Bowser made his first appearance in the original Super Mario Bros. game, released in 1985 for the Nintendo Entertainment System.
Initially, Bowser was portrayed as a ruthless and formidable enemy, kidnapping Princess Peach and constantly challenging Mario in his quest to rescue her. Over the years, Bowser has evolved both visually and in terms of characterization. In Super Mario Bros. 3, released in 1988, Bowser's appearance was enhanced, giving him a more menacing and imposing look. He also gained the ability to transform into various forms, such as a giant and a skeleton.
As the franchise progressed, Bowser's character expanded beyond a simple antagonist. In games like Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario, he was developed with a more humorous and comical side, showcasing his personality and occasional clumsiness. This evolution continued in later titles, with Bowser sometimes teaming up with Mario and his friends against even greater threats.
A notable weird fact about Bowser is that in the Japanese version of Super Mario Bros., his name is actually "Koopa." The name "Bowser" was given to him when the game was localized for the Western audience. This change was made to avoid potential trademark issues with the King Koopa character from the animated TV series "The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3."
Throughout the Super Mario Bros. series, Bowser has remained a constant force of opposition, always finding new ways to challenge Mario and his allies. His presence as a primary antagonist has solidified him as one of the most recognizable and iconic villains in video game history.
Also, footnote, Jack Black did an incredible job voicing him in the new movie, just saying.
Number 3 - Ganondorf (Ganon)
The Legend of Zelda
Tumblr media
Ganondorf, the iconic villain from The Legend of Zelda series, has a fascinating history. He was conceived and brought to life, once again, by the talented video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto and his team at Nintendo. First appearing in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in 1998, Ganondorf quickly established himself as the embodiment of evil.
Ganondorf, a Gerudo male born in the desert kingdom, possessed immense power and an insatiable desire for the Triforce, a legendary artifact capable of granting any wish. With his cunning and dark magic, Ganondorf sought to seize control of the kingdom of Hyrule and plunge it into darkness. Throughout the series, his character has undergone notable changes.
In some titles, such as The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Ganondorf took on a more complex persona, revealing glimpses of his tragic past and inner turmoil. He became a symbol of the consequences of unchecked ambition and the corrupting influence of power. Other games, like The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, portrayed him as a fearsome and imposing figure, displaying his mastery over dark magic and his determination to conquer Hyrule.
Now, regarding the Philips CDI games, Ganon's appearance in those titles was indeed unusual and widely regarded as peculiar. In games like "Link: The Faces of Evil" and "Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon," Ganon's design deviated significantly from his traditional appearance, featuring a rather exaggerated and strange-looking character model. These games, developed by Philips and not under the direct supervision of Nintendo, offered a unique and unconventional take on the Zelda universe.
Despite his absolutely bizarre portrayal in the Philips CDI games, Ganondorf remains an iconic and memorable villain in The Legend of Zelda series. His role as the ultimate antagonist, combined with his compelling backstory and evolving characterizations, has ensured his enduring presence in the hearts of gamers worldwide.
Number 2 - Sephiroth
Final Fantasy 7
Tumblr media
Sephiroth, the iconic villain from Final Fantasy VII, has a captivating history within the realm of video games. He was conceived and brought to life by Tetsuya Nomura, the character designer and director of Final Fantasy VII, along with the creative team at Squaresoft (Soon to be Square Enix at the time). Sephiroth's journey as a character throughout the game is as complex as it is memorable.
Initially introduced as a legendary war hero, Sephiroth becomes the central antagonist as the game's plot unfolds. A former member of SOLDIER, an elite fighting force, Sephiroth learns the shocking truth about his origins and the experiments conducted on him. Consumed by a desire for revenge and driven to madness, he sets out to harness the power of the planet for his own destructive ends.
Sephiroth's character development in Final Fantasy VII is marked by a profound sense of tragedy and a descent into darkness. His presence looms over the game, creating an atmosphere of tension and mystery. Players witness his twisted worldview and his obsession with the concept of "becoming one with the planet." Sephiroth's actions and motivations, coupled with his menacing presence, make him an unforgettable adversary.
One aspect that adds to the allure of Sephiroth is his iconic musical theme, "One-Winged Angel." Composed by Nobuo Uematsu, the renowned composer behind the music of the Final Fantasy series, "One-Winged Angel" has become synonymous with Sephiroth himself. The powerful and haunting composition, featuring a Latin choir and dramatic orchestration, perfectly captures the intensity and grandeur of Sephiroth's character.
Sephiroth's legacy as a video game villain is undeniable, leaving a lasting impact on fans of Final Fantasy VII and the wider gaming community. His tragic past, descent into madness, and the powerful musical theme that accompanies his every appearance have solidified Sephiroth's place as one of gaming's most iconic and memorable villains.
Number 1 - Tom Nook
Animal Crossing
Tumblr media
From the very inception of his pixelated existence, Tom Nook emerged as the embodiment of capitalistic insanity, a creature hell-bent on squeezing every last "bell" from the pockets of unsuspecting villagers. It's as if he was born with a calculator instead of a heart, forever calculating profit margins and interest rates in his sleep.
But what's more outrageous than his insatiable greed is his employment strategy. Who does he hire to assist him in his nefarious endeavors? None other than his sweet little nephews, Timmy and Tommy! Yes, folks, he cunningly exploits their child labor to fuel his capitalist empire. The audacity! What's next? Tom Nook's School of Business for Toddlers?
Let's not forget his lust for hoarding. Tom Nook would amass more bells than a jingling sleigh, even if it means the residents of his island suffer. While they scrape together every last shell and fish to pay off their debts, he's probably lounging in a mansion built with gold-plated turnips. It's as if he bathes in bells and sleeps on stacks of rare fossils.
And speaking of his success, how does one even become a video game landlord? Did he go to a prestigious university for land-grabbing? Is there a diploma in Real Estate Exploitation 101? I can just imagine the curriculum: "Lesson 1: How to Convincingly Smile While Conning Innocent Animal Villagers."
But you know what's truly ironic about Tom Nook's insatiable hunger for wealth? Despite his madman persona, we can't help but be captivated by his presence. He's like a train wreck in a top hat, a master manipulator with a dash of charm. We hate to admit it, but deep down, we secretly admire his entrepreneurial spirit, even if it's as twisted as a pretzel on steroids.
So here's to you, Tom Nook, the infamous video game landlord who has captured our hearts while emptying our virtual wallets. May your pockets overflow with bells, and may your capitalist insanity continue to entertain us in the most absurd and amusing ways.

Note
I'd love a run-down of why your favourite characters are your favourites (note: doesn't have to be coherent) and maybe a few recs/tips on how to get started with the overall canon, if you don't mind?
Oh MAN where do I begin?
Okay so I adore so many of the characters, but Shadow and Silver are probably two of my favorites!
This is gonna be a long one so I'm putting everything under a readmore lol
Okay, lemme talk about Shadow first:
He's like. My favorite, FAVORITE Sonic character ever. I get that he's the "edgy" one, but he has so much depth to him and sometimes even SEGA themselves kind of forget that. Sometimes he's just written as a straight up jerk, but listen. If you watched your best friend get killed right in front of you, plummeted down to earth IMMEDIATELY after, then are manipulated by the grandson of the guy who created you to help him carry out his deeds for world domination, you're gonna be a bit bitter.
But honestly Shadow's backstory gets me. His best friend, Maria Robotnik, was a sickly young girl who he was originally created by Maria's grandfather, Gerald Robotnik, as part of a way to find a cure for the rare disease she had. They have this really sweet sibling bond and I love them so much. She was born on this ship called Space Colony ARK, and due to her illness she wasn't able to go down to earth. For some reason, living in space like slowed the conditions of her illness? But Shadow was part of a project that would help find a cure for it. Unfortunately, the government got involved, deemed Shadow a threat, and shut the project down, and killed Maria in the process.
Before she died, she got Shadow in an escape pod and begged him to protect the people of earth, since it was always her dream to live on earth. And 50 years later, he's found by Eggman, or Ivo Robotnik. And Eggman wants to take over the world. So he pretty much manipulates Shadow into doing his bidding, but at the end of the day, Shadow joins Sonic and friends and saves the day.
And despite it all, while he's still an anti-hero, does what he thinks he has to do to achieve his goals, even if it's maybe not the BEST way, he still genuinely cares about Maria and keeps her promise. Poor kid's just traumatized and has gone through the ringer. But he DOES have a heart, despite what people say. He may not say it, but he definitely cares about his friends and I think he does care for Sonic in a way, despite them being rivals.
I could go on and on and on about how much I love Shadow, but this would get so much longer than it already is lol.
Now for Silver:
The ultimate son boy. Best boy. Sunshine boy. I love him, and despite his first appearence, he's utterly hellbent on killing Sonic because he thinks he's the bad guy, Silver is a huge sweetheart.
Silver is actually from the future, and it's... not a good one. His first Appearance was Sonic 06, which is... very infamous. The game sadly got rushed and isn't the best game, but I think it has a pretty decent storyline for Shadow and Silver. For Sonic... it could have been better. But Silver's whole thing is finding a way to save the future from becoming this bleak and dark place. And unfortunately, he also gets manipulated by Mephiles the Dark into trying to kill Sonic. And for most of the game, that's Silver's one and only goal. However he starts rethinking everything and wondering if he's actually doing the right thing. Eventually he finds out the truth, joins Sonic and Co. and saves the day!
However the events of Sonic 06 technically don't happen. Kind of bullshit if you ask me. Especially since he had this adorable friendship with Blaze the Cat (who is also really cool), but the altered timeline made them not know each other. However, they do end up getting close again! I shipped them pretty hardcore when I was younger, and tbh. Still kind of do.
But overall, Silver is a big sweetheart, and he is a little naive and insecure at times, he has the best intentions at heart and I truly think he's a very solid character and if they ever brought him into the movies, I would flip out. He deserves to have more of the spotlight!
Now for getting started with the franchise, there's a LOT of videos on YouTube that can explain the Sonic lore, and while you can definitely look into the old Sonic games from the Sega Genesis, I recommend starting with the Sonic Adventure games! They're not directly related to each other, so you can go straight to SA2, but I do recomment looking into SA1, just because it is genuinely a fun game (except for Big's fishing levels... love you, Big, but your game play was confusing). But I HIGHLY recommend looking into SA2, especially before watching the third Sonic movie whenever that comes out.
After that, I would look into Sonic Heroes (tbh. my fave Sonic game), Shadow the Hedgehog, and Sonic 06. Then Sonic Generations. There are more games in between 06 and Generations, but I think these games will give you the best introduction to most of the characters. I would also say the Sonic Advanced and Sonic Rush games are good to look into as well.
You can find the cutscenes for pretty much any Sonic game on youtube, that's how I "watched" them if I didn't have them.
Then games I like but you don't NEED to play them because they tie into the bigger story are Sonic Unleashed and the Sonic Riders series. Then Sonic and the Secret Rings, then The Black Knight are fun too!!
Also watch Sonic X! It's a genuinely good show despite what people say. And if you want some good laughs, Sonic Boom is great. I was surprised at how much it made me laugh, and actually got me to like the VAs since I used to be deadset on the 4kids cast (In my defense, I was 12 when the cast changed and didn't know anything about it until I got Sonic Colors for Christmas that year, and when Sonic and Tails sounded drastically different, I lost my shit. I love Roger and Colleen so fucking much now though!)
And then the IDW comics are apparently really good! I haven't read them yet because I'm trying to get into the TMNT comics as well and I'm overwhelmed on which to start haha. But my boyfriend reads them and loves them!
Again, I adore talking about Sonic so please feel free to send in more questions, or even DM me! If you want I can even give you my discord!
And that actually goes for anyone. You want Sonic or TMNT info? Don't hesitate to ask! I'll give whatever info I can!!!

bored at work and thinking about my off and on replay of sonic adventure 2, so here have sonic's thoughts on g.u.n.
short version? he really does not like them.
long version? he really does not like them, to the point where he's actually kind of unnerved by them. i mean, it goes without saying that sonic is not a huge fan of militaries in general, but g.u.n. takes it to another level. they rapidly approach eggman levels of dislike on sonic's part, to the point where i think he actually prefers eggman- at least foiling world domination plots is fun.
like... not only did they scapegoat sonic for the chaos emerald theft to cover up shadow's existence ( that's the interpretation i'm going with, anyways ) but they showed zero concern for civilian safety while chasing him down. i mean, sonic can accidentally crash into cars in city escape, sure, but i imagine you can complete the intro section without bumping into one if you're good enough. i am not, lmao.
the g.u.n. truck? there is no way cars weren't flying everywhere. there's no way people were not hurt or killed in that chase! and if the truck was anything like the generations version of it, they came at him with buzzsaws! even if the generations version is simply sonic misremembering the truck as worse than it was, what does it say about what he lived through that moment? considering it took that much to corner and shuttle him off to prison island to begin with, what the hell did they do to arrest him the first time?
then there's the raid on the ark. sonic was disturbed when he heard gerald's final message the first time, but he was able to put it aside fairly easily in order to save the day. in shadow's game, the disturbance comes back in full force when he learns just how old maria was when she was killed; sees that message for shadow from the robotnik family. they killed a child. they didn't just subdue her or give her the option to stand aside, they straight up opened fire on a kid. and he learns this after spending the whole game begrudgingly working alongside them to stave off the black arms. ( and he refuses to spend more time around them than he has to in the first place. he only shows up to back up diablon because he knows he's really the only one capable of going toe to toe with shadow. )
it can be surmised, therefore, that should he ever learn about shadow working for them ( not that that's canon anymore, if i'm remembering correctly, but like- if any shadows out there kept that ) it kind of makes sonic bristle in that protective way. he's not about to tell shadow what to do, of course; if shadow's willing to give g.u.n. a chance, there is nothing sonic can say or do about it no matter how much he dislikes it. it's shadow's life and after all he's been through, he deserves to do whatever the hell he wants within reason. but... he, well, not quite worries, yet it's in the corner of his mind anyways. he considers shadow a friend, and should he find out about any mistreatment of his friend, he absolutely will go to bat for him. this does extend to rouge and maybe omega as well, but like... ( gestures at shadow's everything. )
as a result, sonic tends to visit the united federation way less than other nations on his travels. which is a shame, because he really does love station square and wants to see how it looks rebuilt!
