Submas Gem AU: Ingo Deets

This was inspired by a reblog from @sningo-prompts time to go more in-depth about How Arceus did the Thing and what Ingo can do now!!

(By the way, you can totally just go full submas on your blog if you want to! Just add to your Bio or Header that you’re mostly sningo stuff, but the rest of submas is still on the table to chatter about.)

First off: Arceus making Gems (specifically turning Ingo into one)

Just to clarify, Ingo is a Gem Hybrid and not a “Pure” Gem. He’s still part human, with all the important physical stuff that goes with that. (Like eating, sleeping, breathing, etc. Not totally dependent on light for health/strength)

BUT, with the way Arceus did it, Ingo also has a lot of abilities that “pure” gems would have as well. Like poofing! (Yes, he can poof btw. I can explain it in a sec.)

The only thing I can think of to compare how Arceus did that is computer programing, so that’s how I’m going to line it out.

Funnily enough, there are numerous Pokémon that (individually) have abilities like gems, so Arceus already has the coding to make them.

A Pokémon who’s “heart” is an object- Magearna (not made by Acreus himself, but still counts in my mind)

Pokémon who have Object Dormant forms- Reshiram and Zekrom (the Light Stone and Dark Stones in the games)

A (human) spirit/being tied to an object that wasn’t originally part of them- Spiritomb

Getting energy/power boosts from sunlight- Espeon, any Pokémon with the chlorophyl ability

Injuries/Unconsciousness triggering a defensive ability to heal/protect themselves- The whole Pokémon shrinking down thing that kicks in when they’re defeated/captured

Physical Yet Malleable body that allowed for limited shape-shifting- Ditto, Mew (in the movies/shows), Zorua/Zoroark illusions

(probably toned down compared to Ditto and Mew, but much more solid than the illusions)

All he had to do was tweak the gem to act as the “safe” spot and then plug all those codes all into Ingo!

New Gems and/or More Gems

At this time in my au ideas, Ingo is the only Gem. Not because I think Arceus wouldn’t have made more, but because I’m not sure who else he would have turned/made into them.

As for new gems/Emmet being one, I’d say that (just for Ingo) Arceus plugged the ability to make a (limited number) new gems himself!

My main thought for How was that it was done through fusion (which was the one new code that had to be made in pokeverse).

Basically, if Ingo is close enough to potentially fuse with someone then if they do, there’s a possibility that when they separate the other person will have become a gem too. The exact criteria needed for that are something I’m still debating, but I know that it will happen to Emmet. Not after the first fusion, but it is basically built in to happen eventually.

Currently, there is no change back plan. Although, I guess it could be done if Arceus was hunted down and brought into the issue.

At the moment, once the code is changed, there isn’t anyway to take it out. Not without help.

Gem Injuries: How do they heal?

This one I’ve actually been thinking about a bit, mostly because I realized that was something I didn’t have an answer for when I talked about Mirror Gem Ingo having a crack. So, I had to think.

My first thought is that there’s some kind of solution out there for mending/healing living rock.

There are plenty of rock types and Pokémon with gem/crystal-like growths on their bodies. And those Pokémon are bound to have gotten hurt/injured at some point and needed to heal/recover. Logically, that means there has to be some kind of medicine out there to heal that kind of damage.

So, I would say Ingo/Emmet would first try to use that to heal and injuries to Ingo’s gem. Normally, this stuff probably wouldn't work on a gemstone, but Ingo’s gem counts as a Living Stone so it would be effective.

It’s probably a multi-part process with a very liquidy starting medicine to get the fine cracks deep in the stone; then with thicker, less fluid layers put on top to help with the outer damage. (Then a couple layers of bandages and stuff stuff on top to hold all those in as they worked their magic.)

That covers some of the major points, but I’ll stop here for now. (Time to work on the asks I have next!)

Chapter Twenty-Three: Steven's Sedative

After leaving Steven a large list of instructions and rules on how to properly take care of Sodalite, as well as a list of things he was NOT allowed to do, Lars had left the beach house in a huff.

He knew this was pretend and it was Sodalite's choice to help, but Lars couldn't fend off this insecure feeling that was gnawing at him. It was made even worse since he was told to stay away. He understood why, but that didn't mean he was okay with it and his impatience with the situation did not go unnoticed by his crew or the people around him.

It had only been a few days since the Gems agreed on this new plan to lure out the creature and Amethyst was doing her part by making sure everyone knew that Steven had a new girlfriend. Since they weren't sure who might be listening, they kept the list of people who knew the truth short.

Though Lars wasn't allowed to see Sodalite, he made sure to keep tabs on them in his own way. Not that it made him feel any better.

"When is that stupid thing gonna come out?" Groaned Lars bitterly as he slumped over the front counter of his bakery.

"Just be patient, Captain..." urged the Left Rutile twin as she locked the shop's door for the night. "Sodalite will come home soon."

Lars sighed and removed his apron, slamming it down onto the counter with a frown. It wasn't like he didn't trust Steven to keep his hands to himself. Lars knew that Steven loved Spinel and didn't have any interest in Sodalite romantically. What worried him most, was what Sodalite would think.

This relationship was very new and Sodalite was so innocent and pure, that Lars didn't want to do anything that might tarnish her somehow. As a result, they hadn't even shared a kiss since the first one. He wasn't very good at sharing his feelings either and Sodalite was always the one to initiate any sort of affection. Whether it was holding hands, kissing his cheeks, or snuggling up to him. He didn't care for public displays of affection either, since Lars embarrassed easily. On the other hand, Lars knew how open and honest Steven was with his feelings and how publicly affectionate he was with Spinel. What if Sodalite preferred Steven even though they were just pretending? Sodalite was honest and open about her feelings all the time, so wouldn't she prefer someone who could show her the affection she wanted?

Honestly, sitting around thinking about it was driving him mad. "I'm going for a walk," grumbled Lars, grabbing his jacket and heading for the door. However, before Lars had even reached for his keys, a knock at the door nearly caused him to trip over his feet. In an irritated huff, Lars unlocked the door and intended to tell the stranger they were closing up, but when he saw who the visitor was, he paused.

"Connie? What are you doing here?" Asked Lars as he stared down at the obviously concerned young woman.

"Can we talk for a sec? It's important."

Though he would have much rather cleared his head, Lars was reluctant to say no when Connie looked troubled like this. Still, it was a little weird that she would come to him and not Steven. In fact, wasn't she supposed to be at school? "Sure, come on in," answered Lars finally as he opened the door further to let Connie inside.

While Lars welcomed his unexpected visitor, Steven was busy removing several splinters from his cheeks. Sodalite had gotten startled while they were out and since he was holding her hand when she ran away, he had been dragged away and accidentally slammed into a tree.

"I'm so sorry!" Sodalite apologized again, panicking as she was huddled in the corner of Steven's bed with the blankets draped over her to hide.

"I said I'm okay," insisted Steven once more. She had apologized nearly ten times already. It had been a couple of days and yet she still wasn't any less tense around him. At the very least, she had been purifying him non-stop so that she could be around him without being completely terrified. Since Sodalite was making sure his negative emotions left him the moment they began bubbling up again, Steven was in good spirits. Calm and well rested. It was nice not to have to feel that pain from missing Spinel. Not that it made him any less determined to find her. It just meant that he could sleep at night. Sodalite was basically his sedative for the time being.

"B-but your face..." whimpered Sodalite.

With a sigh, Steven reached over and pulled the blanket off of her, revealing the freckled Gem as she hugged her knees to her chest. "My face is fine. See? Now, sit down properly so I can fix your hair."

Sodalite silently nodded and did as she was told. She sat down on the floor while Steven placed himself behind her to unravel her braids. One of the instructions on Lars' list for Sodalite's routine was that he brushed her hair before bed. Steven was honestly surprised that Lars would do this, but it was cute to imagine Lars doting on someone like that. He made a note to tease him about it later.

"Do-do you think...it's working...?" Asked Sodalite as Steven brushed out her silver hair.

"...I don't know," he admitted quietly. "But it's only been a few days. ...if this plan doesn't work out...we'll go back to the original. We just...have to give it a little more time."

"A-and what about the-the other Gems? Did they-"

"-we haven't found them," answered Steven, starting to feel that pit in his stomach again. Several more Rose Quartz's had gone missing. They told the others to stay inside the Zoo for now, but he hated not being able to help and essentially locking them up.

Sodalite turned around and took Steven's hand, taking the dark feelings that began to fester and making them disappear. This wasn't just for Steven's sake, but for her too. She couldn't be around Steven with that dark cloud hovering over him like a monster.

"...thanks," breathed Steven with a small smile. He liked the calm, sort of numb feeling that came with her power. He knew this power of hers was a bandaid solution, but it was far better than feeling like his world was falling apart. Without Spinel, everything seemed so dark. At least when Sodalite calmed him down, it didn't hurt.

"My Steven...why don't you rest? Y-you must be tired..."

Steven nodded his head and laid himself down on the bed, staring up at the ceiling and wondering just how long he'd have to wait until he'd see Spinel's face again.

Sodalite was still a bit uncomfortable laying beside Steven, but she knew that without her, he would have trouble sleeping. Truthfully, she hadn't slept since staying at the beach house. Instead, she spent the night purifying Steven so that he could rest comfortably. She sat beside Steven and reached for his hand until she noticed his eyes begin to water.

"...why can't I hear her?" Asked Steven quietly, still staring up at the ceiling even as his eyes welled up with tears.

Sodalite flinched, feeling a rush of sadness wash over her. "My Steven...I-"

"-I connected with Lapis when she was in trouble and far away. ...I connected with the Cluster. ...but if Spinel is out there...why can't I sense her? Why can't I see her? You heard her...but I can't. ...Why?"

Sodalite wasn't sure what to say, but she could feel a terrible pain in her chest as tears rolled down her cheeks. This hurt too much. "I'm sorry..." she whimpered, bringing his hand up to hold it between her own. "I-I will help get her back. She-she'll be back soon..."

Tears slipped down the side of Steven's face. Sure, it was nice to be calm and let Sodalite numb him, but sometimes he needed to cry. He did feel bad that Sodalite had to feel this pain too, but at least he wasn't alone. He pulled his hand away and turned over, wrapping his arms around Sodalite's waist, resting his head in her lap as he held her. "S-sorry..." Steven choked out. He knew how unfair he was being to this Gem. She was being forced to feel all this pain. He was keeping her from the one she loved. She was doing so many things that scared her and constantly purifying him. Now he expected her to comfort him? How much more would he selfishly ask of her?

"...it-its okay..." Sodalite answered as she wiped her tears. "I-I'm here. ...j-just rest, My Steven."

Steven smiled pitifully, feeling a warm calm settle inside his chest. He closed his eyes, letting the last of his tears trickle down his cheek as he drifted off to sleep.

Sodalite simply sat there, leaning back against the pillows at the head of the bed, Steven still holding gently to her waist. She'd never felt pain like this before Steven lost Spinel. She could feel it all around this house. The pain of loss, it hurt more than she could imagine. "I-I will fix it..." whispered Sodalite, glancing down at Steven's sleeping face, a few of his tears having dropped against her lap. "I-I'm not going to give up. I can...I can help you...this time. I promise..."

It felt as though he had just closed his eyes when he began to hear the muffled sounds of someone talking downstairs. Whoever it was, they sounded in a rush. Since he was still half asleep, he wasn't trying too hard to make out what they were saying. Even as footsteps were rushing up the stairs, he didn't stir too much. He was actually pretty comfortable, preferring to sleep in a little more rather than wake up to feel that pain again. He was about to close his eyes again before the door to his room swung open with a start.

Steven groaned sleepily, not bothering to open his eyes since he assumed it was Pearl there to wake him. "...later..." he mumbled.

"Well, don't you look comfortable," muttered Lars, causing Steven's heart to drop into his stomach, waking him completely now. His eyes shot open and he froze in place, staring up at a clearly outraged Lars. However, the pink human had a forced smile on his face, which only unsettled Steven more.

He realized now, that the soft warmth he felt against his cheek was Sodalite's thigh and he immediately recalled falling asleep in her lap. In fact, he still had his arms wrapped around her waist as if he were hugging a pillow. Steven sat up at once, his back stiff as he panicked internally. Making things worse, Sodalite was still sleeping soundly as if she hadn't heard a single thing.

"M-morning Lars," began Steven, avoiding eye contact with his friend and offering a nervous smile. "I-I can explain this. It's not-"

Lars was now glaring down at Steven as Sodalite finally began to stir in her sleep. Both young men turned their gaze to the sleepy Gem who was still blissfully unaware of what was happening. "Mm...My Steven...?" yawned Sodalite, a little surprised that she had fallen asleep.

"We-we have a guest," Steven announced. He was still nervous since Lars appeared eager to attack him, but he also knew that Lars was forcing a smile because he wasn't about to yell and scare Sodalite.

The freckled Gem rubbed her eyes to wake herself up a little more and once her gaze settled on the pink human, a bright smile laced her face. "Lars," she exclaimed happily, leaping up from the bed and tackling Lars to the floor before he could greet her.

"Oomph-! G-good morning," Lars breathed, stuck on his back as Sodalite hugged his shoulders, rubbing her cheek against his own. He wanted to remain angry, but she was making it difficult. "What was Steven doing in yo-" Even as he tried to question Sodalite on the position he had caught Steven in, she had begun to happily plant kisses along his cheek, quickly silencing him.

"I'd give you some privacy, but you know, it's my room," chided Steven, a little annoyed over seeing such a display while he was missing his Spinel.

"D-don't make jokes," insisted Lars, sitting up and placing his hands on Sodalite's shoulders to stop her. "I clearly wrote in the instructions, NO intimate touching of any kind."

Sodalite wasn't even sure what they were talking about. Lars seemed a little upset, but she was mostly just disappointed that he had stopped her. It had been days since she saw him.

"Okay, while I understand why you might get the wrong idea..." started Steven calmly, "...that wasn't anything at all. I just fell asleep."

"With your arms around her?!"

Sodalite frowned. Why was Lars angry? "Ar-aren't you happy to see me...?"

Lars flinched, able to feel Sodalite's shoulders tremble against his palms. Was she about to cry? "Wha-of course I am," he tried, forcing a calmer smile for her sake.

Sodalite smiled once again, always easily swayed by his words. "I'm happy too," she replied cheerfully.

Lars felt his cheeks begin to burn. He hadn't seen Sodalite's innocent smile for days. It nearly diffused his anger altogether. He lowered his head, hoping to hide his bashful expression, "H-hey, can you give me and Steven a minute alone?"

The freckled Gem seemed troubled now. Her orders were to stay with Steven. She glanced his way and when Steven nodded, Sodalite got to her feet. "...o-okay."

The boys were silent until Sodalite left the room, waiting for the door to close before speaking again.

"...so, what brings you here?" Asked Steven, breaking the awkward silence that hung in the air.

"Well, I did come to tell you something important, but I didn't think I'd find you using my girlfriend as your personal pillow," answered Lars in a huff as he got to his feet.

Steven shrunk a bit. Though there was nothing romantic about it, he understood why Lars would be upset. "...She calms me down..." replied Steven quietly. Not sure how else to explain it. Honestly, after being calmed for so long and so often, he felt a little anxious with Sodalite being out of the room. The longer she was away from him, the more time his pain would have to resurface. How long did he have before it came back in full force?

Lars wanted to throw a fit, but instead, he took a deep breath and tried to remember what Steven was going through. He didn't like watching Sodalite treat Steven as her Diamond and he all his insecurities hadn't disappeared, he just didn't see the point in taking it out on Steven. It would be like kicking a man when he was down. "...I would have just called, but my phone took a dive last night," he started to explain. "Last night, Connie came by the shop."

"Connie? She went back to school...why-"

"-she said she took a leave of absence, but that's not the point. She was acting really weird. For one, I didn't see Lion anywhere and when I asked about him, she said she hadn't seen him in a while. She didn't even seem concerned about it. What she did seem concerned about, was asking questions regarding you and Sodalite. Not only that, but she seemed to lose her temper rather quickly. She also seemed upset when I asked if she was okay and it looked like her head was hurting her. She insisted on going home alone...but I sent the Rutiles to follow her...and...they didn't come back."

"What?!" Steven exclaimed, standing from the bed now. "Well, why aren't you-"

"-we already went looking for them," insisted Lars. "...what we found, was their Gem. They'd been poofed. They haven't reformed yet."

"...and you think Connie poofed them?"

"Who else? I mean, I didn't see anything strange in her eyes...but she wasn't herself. Something was definitely wrong. I would have told you sooner, but my phone busted when we were looking for the Twins and...I wanted to make sure they were safe before anything else."

Steven began to panic. He thought Connie would be safe since she had gone back to school. Did the creature take her without anyone realizing it? When? Why? Didn't it want Spinel because he loved her? Or had it taken Connie because Spinel was truly gone? What was it planning to do with Connie? Was it forcing Connie to shatter those Rose Quartz's and if so, why? "S-Sodalite!" Steven called out, feeling the pain in his chest start to ache. It was like he couldn't take a proper breath it hurt so bad.

The panicked Gem ran into the room, most likely waiting outside for them to call her back inside. She rushed over to Steven and quickly took his hand. it didn't take long for Steven to calm down, but he gripped Sodalite's hand to keep her there. Something that didn't go unnoticed by Lars.

"Steven...how often has Sodalite been purifying you?" Lars asked in genuine concern. Even if the news was upsetting, that was a rather strong reaction to it.

"...it doesn't matter. It's just easier to deal with things when she does this," answered Steven.

Lars was still a bit wary. Maybe the constant healing wasn't a good thing. "...maybe you should take a break with it. I mean, it might not be super healthy for you being half human and all." Like any human taking a drug to numb themselves, too much was never a good thing. Not to mention how you might feel when it wears off. Her power probably affected Steven differently.

"I know you want Sodalite back, but I need her right now," insisted Steven, more focused on the situation with Connie than Lars' concerns about Sodalite. "We need to find Connie now so that I can talk to her...and figure out where Lion went."

"Right..." sighed Lars. "...Well...I gave you the information, I should get going."

Sodalite nearly stepped away from Steven when Lars turned for the door, but Steven tightened his grip on her hand. He knew that this was hard for her, but just by coming here Lars could have ruined things. If that thing was inside of Connie or anyone else, it could be watching the house. They had a few more options now, but he still hoped to lure it out.

"We need to go and talk to Pearl. I think I have an idea," stated Steven.

"...yes, My Steven..." Sodalite replied quietly, staring at the door that Lars had gone through.

A/N: So many problems keep adding up for Poor Steven, but look forward to the next chapter where he might actually receive a sliver of happiness! ;)  You know...maybe.

March 7, 2021: Onward (2020) (Part One)

Finding Nemo.

That’s my favorite Pixar film. Real talk, no arguments, and today’s movie? NOT dethroning it. This movie is so hard-wired into my brain, that the second I typed the words of the title, the theme song ran through my head, where it lives rent-free. It will be a cold day when I don’t find an excuse to shout “NEMOOOO!!!! I HAVE TO FIND MY SON!!” at any opportune moment. I will never stop swimming. Whenever I catch a Chinchou or Lanturn in a Pokémon game, I name it “Goodfeeling’sgone”.

YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE DEPTHS OF MY LOVE FOR THIS MOVIE.

...Ahem. So, yeah, I love FInding Nemo. For the record, the sequel ain’t bad. And also for the record, there’s only one Pixar movie that I consider to be bad, and it’s the one you’d think. You know, the one about ageism. The one where somebody dies by torture? The bad spy movie?

...the second one about cars?

Which means, YES. I DON’T THINK The Good Dinosaur IS THAT BAD! Not exactly good, but its gorgeous, and just kinda boring, not outright terrible. That Styracosaurus, though...that dude is great.

Anyway, off of Pixar for a sec, huh? What about fantasy? I’m a big tabletop RPG nerd, and I’m currently the GM for a Pathfinder campaign, a Pokémon RPG, and a Mutants and Masterminds game, while also playing in a Pathfinder game as well. Yeah, I’m a busy dewd. But what I’m saying is, this movie should be preaching to the choir for me. I’m a Pixar lover who plays RPGs. I’m ready for this. I’m ready for CGI Bright. Which is another way of saying, I’m ready for a version of Bright that doesn’t suck.

So, why haven’t I seen it until now? I mean...COVID-19. This film got FUCKED. But, no matter! It’s on Disney Plus, I’ve got Disney Plus, so let’s get this baby STARTED! Let’s get updated on some Pixar! SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

Recap (1/2)

OK, immediately digging the soundtrack over the Disney logo as we jump in here! Very ethereal, very fantasy, very LotR, I LIKE it, I LIKE it! And then...long ago, the world was full of wonder!

We get a view of the world of olde, with magic and many mystical, mythical creatures living together and adventuring. However, as magic wasn’t the easiest thing in the world to use, it eventually gave way to technology, fading away in a world now very similar to ours.

Basically, it’s about the same as our world, except for a few different races, and the fact that dragons are basically dogs, and unicorns are basically raccoons, which is fuckin’ fantastic.

We enter the home of teenage elf Ian Lightfoot (Tom Holland) and introverted now-16-year-old who lives with his mother, Laurel (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and his older brother Barley (Chris Pratt). Barley’s a tabletop RPG nerd who’s also a fan of the magical past. Said obsessions cause a strain on his relationship with Ian, and with that of his mother’s boyfriend, centaur policeman Colt Bronco (Mel Rodriguez).

After a discussion about Barley’s recent attempt to protect an old magical monument from destruction, he accidentally damages the sweatshirt that Ian is wearing, which was owned by their late father, Wilder. Ian rushes out, flustered, despite Barley’s attempts to bond with him. Well, looks like we have a sense of the plot for this one.

On his way to school, Barley stops to get some food when he meets Gaxton (Wilmer Valderrama), an old college friend of his father’s. From Gaxton, he learns things about his father that he never knew, like that he was bold and standout. From there, Barely pledges to try and be more self-confident, like his father.

Whiiiiiiich, doesn’t exactly work once he gets to school. He fails to stand-up to a jerky guy at school, he fails in his driving class, and he fails to ask other high school kids to his birthday party. But to be fair, Barley helps a bit with that last one when he shows up with Guinevere, his busted-ass van with a unicorn painted on the side. Which is supposed to be uncool...but I kinda dig it, not gonna lie.

After that, Ian completely flubs the invitation bit, confusing the people he was talking to, and disappointing himself in the process. He gets a ride home with Barley, and goes home to talk to a tape recording of his dad. Which is...beautifully sad, and somehow very easy to identify with. So, yeah, it’s gonna be that kind of Pixar movie.

Ian talks to his mom about his father at his age, asking if he was ever unsure. She says yes, but couples this with a surprise: a gift from his late father, who died of a terminal illness shortly after Ian’s birth. The gift is for both Ian and Barley, and was meant to be opened when they were both over 16.

She gets it from the attic, and they unwrap it, where it’s revealed to be a wizard’s staff. Which is weird, because Wilder was an accountant. In a pocket of the wrapping cloth, there’s a letter written by Wilder with the narration from the beginning of the film (that “Long ago” bit).

Also included is a spell, written by Wilder so that he could see who his sons grew up to be. This “Visitation Spell” would appear to be a way to bring Wilder back for 24 hours. Barley, being the magic-lover that he is, tries multiple times to cast the spell with the staff, but fails to do so, much to his and Ian’s great disappointment.

However, when Ian tries to read the spell out of curiosity later, the staff begins to react, and the spell begins to work. Barley comes in as this is happening, and the spell works...halfway. It starts to fail, and Barley offers to help, but Ian pulls the staff away, and the spell stops as the Phoenix crystal inside it shatters.

Looks like another bust, but it’s not a complete failure. And if you’ve seen literally any trailer for this movie, you know what happens.

Although it’s just his legs and feet, it’s still Wilden Lightfoot (Kyle Bornheimer...technically). The boys decide to try and complete the spell, but need another Phoenix Gem to do so. According to Barley’s “historically accurate” TTRPG, Quests of Lore, they will be able to find one by accepting a quest from the place where all quests start: the Manticore’s Tavern. And so, the quest begins!

The brothers and their half-dad board Guinevere and drive to the Manticore’s Tavern. On the way, Barley convinces Ian to practice some spells from the games rulebook, but they don’t work because Ian’s not invoking his passion (or his “heart’s fire”, as Barley calls it). Meanwhile, Laurel figures out where they’re headed, but doesn’t know exactly why...yet.

After the journey, they make it to the Manticore’s Tavern, which is now essentially a themed Chuck E. Cheese’s restaurant, owned and managed by Corey (Octavia Spencer), a very overworked manticore. Which is pretty great, not gonna lie.

They try to get the actual map to the Phoenix’s Gem from her in order to conjure their Dad, but she no longer sends adventurers on dangerous quests, mostly because she doesn’t want to get sued by any injured adventurers. When Ian argues with her about this, she IMMEDIATELY DIVES INTO AN EXISTENTIAL CRISIS/MID LIFE CRISIS!

It’s, uh...it’s kind of amazing. Having completely lost it at this point, she basically tears down the entire building with her bare hands and fire-breath. Unfortunately, the map to the Phoenix Gem is burnt in the process of Corey’s literal meltdown. However, as Wilden’s about to be crushed by a couple of falling beams, Ian taps into his heart’s fire.

Nice. They get out of there, and head out for the Gem, using a child’s placemat replica of the real map to make their way to a place called Raven’s Point. However, rather than just follow the goddamn map, Barley decides to go on much more dangerous road known as the “Path of Peril”, once again following the “call of adventure” and his gut.

Which...yeah, Barley’s not really considering the reality of this whole situation, which fits his personality. He’s a dreamer, despite the rational and reasonable solution in front of him. And, in case you weren’t sure, I’m pretty sure that isn’t a good thing.

Ian points out the correct point that what actually matters is that they send enough time with their father, and they do indeed take the straightforward path. Good! Barley listened to Ian’s suggestion after all. However, they hit another snag when the car breaks down, completely out of gas. Problem.

Meanwhile, Laurel makes her way to the Manticore’s place, only to find it on fire! She meets Corey, who tells her that she’s met her boys, and told them about everything...except the curse. Also, there’s a curse. Laurel, who is the best movie Mom ever, tricks a policeman interviewing Corey to diverting his attention away from her, and smuggles her into her car to help find (and maybe rescue) her sons. 

Stuck off the freeway without gas, a desperate Ian asks Barley if there are any spells that can get them more gas. They concoct a plan involving a shrinking and growing spell, but that immediately goes wrong as Barley tries to instruct Ian, only frustrating him further, and causing him to fumble the spell and hit Barley with it, making him tiny. 

They decide to head to a gas station, where a group of pixie bikers has just arrived. This backfires when Barley, lacking basically any common sense, ends up insulting the biker leader, Dewdrop (Grey Griffin) and her ancestors. Nice one, Barley. As they escape from the pissed off pixies, the tiny Barley is unable to drive, forcing the driver’s anxiety-riddled Ian to drive, overcoming his fears from earlier by force, being chased by the pixies all the way. It’s a pretty good sequence, to be honest.

Well, they escape the Pixies...but not the cops. And I think that’ll be a good place to pick up in the next part! See you there!

Letting your shoes walk you around the House of Lamentation for some fresh air or change of scenery, your bedroom, a place where your bones could rest, became more like a pressure cooker with piles of your homework, additional projects and materials to read occupying your desk that it became obvious that shutting yourself in could not do any good.

With your fingers fidgeting, your worries came like waves clashing to the shore without any rock to interfere, the conversation with your favored professor was a subject that was hard to dismiss and with the exams fast approaching…

Perhaps the fireplace by the common room would be settling.

Or a nice distraction that is..

“Is something the matter, dear?”

Like a feline jerking from a sudden touch or caress of its owner, you clumsily tried to composed yourself, looking to your rear as to who might have spoken, seeing only a prominent string pulled to his chin.

“Oh. It’s just you, Lucifer. Thought I was having some paranormal experience for a sec.”

“Paranormal?”

“Well.. your outfit seems to blend in with the sofa.”

Watching him place his hand close to his chest, an invitation escaped through his lips, asking you to sit beside him with your body just seemingly comply with it, tired should you think about it further.

“You are pursing your lips once more, human. It is like you do not have any lips anymore.”

“I don’t!”

“And your fingers are back in fidgeting again. You only do both of those things when you are upset and in terrible discomfort.”

Silence.

Sensing how this might have been a private matter, with your lips tightly shut and eyes that are so unsure where to look, the Avatar of Pride himself knew too well how it must feel with other people insist on meddling with your own business. Offering you the cup of tea he had brewed himself for, he spoke in a gentle manner, a contrary when hearing him shout his brother’s name; “You could always tell me what is bothering you, dear. However, should it be something personal and intimate, you could always have a nice cup of tea to think it with and I would not insist on the subject. We could just silently stare by the fire and be distracted together.”

Self-consciously trying to compose yourself as you took the offer, it took courage for you to take hold of his hand, making the conversation into a confession;

“Well.. it is just about my academic performance…”

What supposed to feel awkward and perhaps humiliating, none of those surfaced with the light-bringer listening intently, much so that it felt good to be able to find someone to talk to and release what had been oppressed for only your mind to argue with.

More so, to share it with a nice warm chamomile tea.

.. And it is just all overwhelming.”

“I understand,” the Avatar of Pride remarked, as he poured more tea to your cup, followed by a string of advice that brought enlightenment to your studies. Perhaps, to a demon who is prompt to every work, his advice would really help.

“Say,” inching closer; “If it is fine with you, I could accompany you until you feel like returning to your room. Perhaps I could escort you then.”

“Would you not have agendas to attend?”

“Nonsense.” He chuckled.
