Nel 1992 Ash Thayer era una ragazza che studiava arte. Fu cacciata dal suo appartamento di Brooklyn perchè non riusciva a pagarsi l’affitto e si trovò a vivere nel cosiddetto See Skwat situato nel Lower East Side di New York. Thayer cominciò a fotografare tutti coloro che vivevano in quegli edifici abbandonati, emarginati di vario genere, punk, anarchici, hippie, che lavoravano per rendere la comunità più vivibile. Le immagini che vennero fuori, sono degli splendidi ritratti intimi e paesaggi urbani, che aiutano a eliminare alcune idee sbagliate sugli squatter. Oggi le fotografie sono diventate parte dell’affascinante libro ‘Kill City: Lower East Side Squatters 1992-2000′. Uno splendido esempio di street photography e un importante pezzo poco conosciuto della storia di New York. Godetevi questo meraviglioso progetto qua.

During her time as an art student in 1992, Ash Thayer was kicked out of her Brooklyn apartment and found herself living in the See Skwat on New York City’s Lower East Side. Thayer photographed the people who lived in those abandoned buildings, outcasts, punks, anarchists, hippies who worked to make that community more habitable. The images reveal beautiful intimate portraits of friendship and the poetry of urban landscapes, and they help to dismantle some of the misconceptions about squatters. The photos are now part of the fascinating book ‘Kill City: Lower East Side Squatters 1992-2000′. A great example of street photography and an important piece of the unknown history of New York. Weightlifting I rarely post my weightlifting videos. I’m probably as serious as I can be, given my time working two jobs, maintaining my art work load and having a little baby 👶 girl. One of the reasons I dont post many of my lifts is because I tend to not stop my workouts to create videos of me lifting, I am already in a hurry. During this lift it was around 7 AM and I was in a rush to be at work by 9, so I skipped breakfast. I basically worked out on an empty gas ⛽️ tank. So I really lacked that power on the vertical ascent. I posted this because I was quite proud of my last set after missing my fifth rep on 405. It’s not something to brag about, but it’s not weak sauce either. On social media feeds all you see is the successful lifts, but never really the failed attempts. To me that can be disingenuous and fake. In social media we tend to only show our best, which often can feel like lying. I think I’m done with this notion of putting up fake. The next video shows me 5 minutes later completing my last set with 5 reps, when I missed the previous set. You can’t tell by the video that I was exhausted, to which I proceeded to lay down on the ground. It’s worth noting that after this lift I pretty much had no gas in the tank and I missed my rep ranges on my bench and totally couldn’t even pull my goal weight for deadlift.
