This is a PSA about not being afraid to look up who is in charge of something and tell them about problems with it.
Case 1: the bus that I have to rely on to get to my job is unreliable in many ways. But it used to be worse. It would come too early and not wait for people, it would come late and I would be late for work, it would go the wrong direction and never get to where I need it at all…all sorts of problems. I called the local transit system, and while “the budget” doesn’t allow for my bus to come more often, they have made obvious strides in driver training, providing drivers with more information about their routes so as to help both drivers and passengers succeed.
Y
Case 2: there is a park near my house with swingsets that have really rough metal chains. Yesterday, I went there, and it was obvious the chains have gotten worse since the previous visit. I’m used to getting blisters and sores, but yesterday’s trip left me with a bleeding hole in my finger. I was not alone. There was a small child playing with her father on the swing next to me, and she had to keep taking breaks because her hands were hurting. This morning I looked up the number for park maintenance in my area, and called to report the issues. They have promised to look at the chains and possibly replace them (it sounds likely).
In both cases, the people in charge were glad I told them about the problems, and in both cases, they told me they wished more people would call in.
Now, obviously, this isn’t something to do for petty personal grievances, and you have to be polite about it. But if you are having trouble getting where you need to go, or the swingset is wearing away people’s skin, or you have another major problem that someone is in charge of fixing, it’s okay to tell whoever is in charge that there is a problem.

April 24th
Most people aren't aware that April is dedicated to sexual assault awareness. If you feel like you've gone through this please know that you absolutely did not deserve that, everyone deserves to feel as though they have the right to say no. COCSA, cyber flashing, indecent exposure, and csa are all types of sexual violence. SV and SA are things that affect numerous people well into adulthood. Please never put yourself in a dangerous situation and always remember that you have the right to say no.
On April 24th and all women (stay safe regardless of gender) should attempt to refrain from going anywhere

They Tell My Girl
Tumblr media
They tell my girl; "Be quiet, you're too loud."
I say to her; "Scream at the top of your lungs."
Use your voice, you have the right to be heard.
Say what you want to say without being deterred.
You're brilliant, your mind shines so bright.
You've got to be you, vivacious and alive.
A whole linage of women is standing behind you proud.
Don't let anybody tell you to quiet down.

The words of one woman would not have turned the marching boots of men, but the pain of not having spoken, of not bothering to ask questions, still aches inside me now.

Honestly, if people are gonna heckle, I wish they'd at least annunciate. I'm sure what you're saying is hilarious my guy, but you've got to be clear about what the fuck you're even saying. Articles, prepositions, pronouns, come on man!
