i played every single mission in mad max and got a full completion on the whole game cause I was searching for a place where it was I guess a better game and I sure didn't find it but I have all the lore in my brain and apparently they used it all on the Furiosa movie so it's relevant again and you're gonna hear about it, anyways now chumbucket was a blackfinger and a religious zealot to the Angel of Combustion who believed max to be a saint after seeing him fight Scabrous Scrotus, now here's the thing about Scrotus-

I CAN'T BELIEVE WE ACTUALLY GOT TO SEE SCABROUS SCROTUS IN THE FILM!!! I CAN'T FUCKING BELIEVE IT, I WAS GOING ABSOLUTELY MENTAL WHEN WE SAW SO MANY FACE'S FROM FURY ROAD

AND THE SMALL MAX CAMEO, I mean it was his car and stuff like in the beginning of Fury Road

Me and my brother had an amazing time together and we really hope there will be a second film

This goes against my headcanons on birth order but like what if joe's sons got their crappy names bc of corpus 

 like imagine corpus colossus, as a precocious 11 year old who's too smart for his own good (in the sense of smart arse as well as regular smart), who feels replaceable because of the attention his dad puts on hypothetical babies who keep dropping like flies 

 but he would NEVER admit he feels unloved or anything like expressing feelings?? what?? so he takes it out by giving them ridiculous names like...

 The organic mechanic wipes the infant clean, declares it a prime specimen. Joe leaves the side of the mother to look. the other women go back to her side to comfort her. 

 organic is layering it on thick, like this is the healthiest one he's seen yet, completely shine, the perfect heir. corpus is young but won't be fooled. he mumbles something about the baby having some strange markings on its skin.

 Joe assesses it, proud. He turns to his harem, gives them empty praise. He ends it with, "What shall we name him?" 

 The women are holding onto their sister who had just given birth, protective. They're thrown off, but offer some suggestions. 

All are denied. Joe almost gets angry, they're so unsatisfactory. He asks, "does anyone ELSE have ideas?" 

 The organic mechanic opens his mouth to speak but before he can- "SCABROUS SCROTUS!" calls out Corpus. He notices everyone watching him. "Name him that, Dad. Please." 

 The women are almost shocked. The few who aren't terrified of Joe look like they're about to laugh. They would, under other circumstances. 

 Joe laughs himself. Everyone lets out the breath they didn't know they were holding. He mulls it over, and decides it's satisfactory. 

 "Alright, my son. Scabrous Scrotus it is."

I’ve been playing a LOT of the Mad Max game and hoo boy I am having a lot of thoughts/feelings, but perhaps one central one is that this game works absolutely fantastically as a prequel to Fury Road, in many ways:

1. It sets up the place where Max IS at the beginning of that movie, where he is hallucinating dead people crying after him, people’s he’s known or lost, or is just trying to flee; he doesn’t even seem to remember what his name is. And this is important because the game directly sets this up:

The game features Max at his lowest point, his most selfish and least moral. He isn’t heartless, but he is so focused on survival that he sincerely contemplates leaving the most noble of the settlements to die while he is content to work for a potential slave trader, simply because the latter has something to offer him, and only changes his mind when he’s told that the attackers will destroy all the tools he needs if they overrun the settlement.

He gets better. And then he crashes. He comes close to having a family again, and seeing the value in people, and then he loses it all, and succumbs to blind rage, killing his only friend (?) in the process. So he goes through all that and fails, only speaking his name but a single time, and by the end, his steps towards improvement are gone.

But he LEARNS from all this; it’s the set up for his character arc in Fury Road, showing us how he got to the point where he’s genuinely feral.

2. A big point in Fury Road is that Furiosa contemplates going a specific direction that Max advises her not to; with nothing but death in that way. And that’s because it’s almost certainly the direction he came from, in the events of the game. There’s just a wasteland there, as tough as anywhere else, and beyond that is the remnants of the sea, with nothing beyond it (so far as he knows).

3. The antagonist of the game, Scabrous Scrotus, is something of a beta baddie for his father, Immortan Joe. Not only is he specifically identified as such, and you visit the site of Gastown in person (thus showing a bit more of that triad element), but he and his legions of fantacal thrill killers also give a broader view towards the average War Boy. Nux was, apparently, an extreme outlier. The society they would have built is a grim and terrible one.

4. The game would be a lot more depressing and awful if not for the knowledge of the good things that result in Fury Road, so they honestly work best as a story viewed in a pair.
