we all know that saiki isn't too excited when it comes to romance.

so... how did he land you? he doesn't know either. all he does know is that you're the only person he'd actually accept romantic gestures from.

hugs, kisses, cuddling—don't expect him to jump into it suddenly at the beginning of the relationship. he'll definitely need some time do do these things, if he'd do them at all.

but, once he does sort of settle down, he basically lets you do whatever you want. so what if you're harassing him? he prefers it be you over anyone else.

and maaaybe he's okay with cuddles. a little bit. he gravitates towards you in his sleep.

cafe dates!! or, anything with sweets, at all. take him to hershey park, for all he cares—as long as he gets to buy all some candy.

he watches your TV shows with you. he does his best not to get spoiled, and if he does, then he keeps it from you and acts like he wasn't.

he takes interest in the things you like. the music genres you prefer, your favorite hobbies, and so on. unless it involves bugs, he'll probably give what you like a chance.

he tells you about his powers eventually. he doesn't really know how he expects you to act, but he definitely doesn't expect you to just shrug it off. which is exactly what you did.

"you're a what, now?"

"a psychic."

"oh. you're serious?"

"...yes."

"oh.. cool."

please buy him coffee jelly. one second of seeing him in pure bliss is filled with enough joy to last you ten lifetimes.

one time, you tried feeding him coffee jelly while making an airplane "brrrr" sound. you did the whole, "here comes the airplane!!" as you'd spin around and twist the spoon until it came to a rest in saiki's mouth.

"and... that was supposed to taste better, how?"

"it just does. i don't make the rules."

you will playfully flirt with him all the time. doesn't mean he'd respond, but he tolerates it.

from time to time, he may humor you with a quick remark to counter your statements. but, it's always out of the blue, and always will leave your face feeling like an oven with your jaw dropped.

if you think he's one to do it in public, though, then you're crazy. pda is a big no-no.

you got him a pair of sunglasses once, and he stared dead in your eyes (with his glasses on). he asked you why you thought he needed it, and you responded that they were for when his green glasses got tired.

he blinked slowly, shook his head, and ruffled your hair. (it was an excuse to wear his glasses for a bit. don't think he wouldn't read your mind. not like he can help it, anyways.)

if you're cold in public, he stands near you and uses his pyrokinesis to warm you up, and may hold your hand. in secret only. if you tell anyone, his hand in yours is as good as gone.

he doesn't really get jealous. he's fine with being alone, but if you ask him to come along, he most likely won't say no. but if teruhashi is coming along, forget about it.

you play with his hands. like... i can just imagine gently grabbing his fingers and bending them like a seesaw or a bicycle.

he makes you come with him to take care of yuuta, hoping you don't have a resemblance to anyone else in cyborg cyder man no.2, or else yuuta will be all over you.

A Change of Perspective

I was not expecting so much attention on my latest Flatland artwork, as I´m writting my biggest post so far it´s about to hit 400 notes.

Thank you to everyone for sharing my artwork, following me and thanks to everybody leaving comments on them, I truly appreciate what you have to say about my work!

So, I wanted to write a little about my personal relationship with this novel. Although small, it did help me create a point of reference for my growth over these years.

I knew about this novel since 2016, after the 2016 Bill Q&A mentions Edwin A. Abott. Of course my curiosity got the best of me and I decided to figure out this world. I ended up falling on a 4th dimension theory and Mathematics rabbit hole.

Since a lot of conversations surrounding the book where around theories on the 4th dimension, rather than giving political comentary on the book. As it´s rediscovery was made in the year 1920´s, one could imagine why that was the case. For the most part, due to Einstein´s main interest being how Edwin A. was able to somehow predict the 4th dimension´s existence.

Thanks to this, I didn´t take Flatland´s themes into consideration, and just read a few chapters out of order.

July 2024, The Book of Bill releases. Once again, there´s a reference to the novel in one of the pages. And for old times sake I decided to revisit Flatland. Curiously it´s when I got recommended the 2007 Flatland movie to no end, I eventually, after a long weekend of College work, decided to watch it as I animated.

After that, I decided this time I would finally give myself the time to finish the novel. With an older and more open mind I was able to finish the book and understand it´s themes; critiquing bigotry and seeing the world through a whole new perspective. Makes me wish little me finished the book instead of taking its message for granted, could’ve helped get over some mayor denial I had back then.

I believe things happen a certain way for a reason, maybe it was for the better that I didn’t finish that book back then, at least it gave me the opportunity to better appreciate it :^]c

I hope this community keeps on growing. And I hope to see more people create more content for this interesting world!

Why was Kunikida against rescuing Kyouka?

Will mention some minor spoilers for Dazai's Entrance Exam light novel.

The way Kunikida reacts to Atsushi trying to save Kyouka is so so important to his character and how he has developed (even before the series actually starts).

The way he acts about Kyouka (discouraging Sushi from helping her) feels conflicting with his ideals. We see him trying to help kids in bad situations so often. I’m talking partially about Aya and kids with bombs literally strapped to them, but I’m also talking about kids going down a bad path. I mean, the whole reason that bomber guy in the Aya episode was obsessed with getting revenge on him was that years ago Kunikida saw this high schooler who was hurting and being very fucked up about it (I think he was planning to bomb his school?) and tried to help him in the way he knew how (pushing his ideals onto him).

But the more direct example is Rokuzo, the hacker guy in the Azure Apostle/Messenger arc. I think it’s more clear in the light novel, but the kid was going down a bad path after the death of his father, he was hacking the ada, getting into illegal stuff, and instead of getting him in legal trouble, Kunikida lowkey blackmailed him to use his skills for them. But this was because this gave him a connection to try and help him!!! To be a figure in his life and lead him right! (He specifically says he had no intent of actually releasing the evidence on him.) That was his whole goal there! And we all know how that went.

The whole Azure Apostle/Messenger arc was designed to make him question his ideals (as are many of Kunikida's best moments), and it certainly does.

"Was it right for her to be shot and killed?! Is this the ideal world I seek?!" Pg 172, Osamu Dazai's Entrance Exam

"Miss Sasaki is dead, and so is Rokuzo. 'All I've found in my search for righteousness within myself is a sense of hopelessness.'" Pg 173, Osamu Dazai's Entrance Exam

And then, after that, after his ideals fail him and lead to that kid's death, Atsushi, the new hire that he must feel at least a little (maybe unwillingly) responsible for (because who else is gonna be responsible for him, Dazai?), meets Kyouka. And Kunikida knows how this goes. Atsushi is naive. He will throw so much of himself into saving this kid, just like Kunikida did. It will end in tragedy and it will break him. Kunikida went through this already and he doesn’t want that for Atsushi.

In the anime, we meet Kyouka so soon after the Azure Apostle/Messenger arc. In general, I think changing the timing of Azure Apostle/Messenger ruined a lot of the adaptation, but in this specific instance, it adds something because it makes Kunikida's reaction to Kyouka feel more like a direct result of what happened there.

So we see Kunikida trying to protect Atsushi, the kid who he can help, and sort of try to go against his ideals. He is actively struggling to go against what he feels is right, and in the end, he succumbs to it anyway. We have seen Kunikida try not to follow his specific ideals or general moral code in the name of being logical and it doesn't work. In the end, he lets Atsushi's hope infect him and power his ideals once again, and it pays off!

I told my mom when I was 20ish that Grandma had been abusing me emotionally and psychologically since I was a child, and she got upset and told me never to say bad things about Grandma. Today, my husband talked with my mother, asking if we would be at her family's dinner. "Will Alia's abusive grandmother be there? Yes? Then we won't be," and got a "This is so hard on me" response. Then she got upset and sulked. Hey, I'm glad that is reinforcing boundaries with an awful abuser. All of you keep inviting me to shit that is hard on you; very cool. No one ever takes the side of the person being abused; they always side with the abuser.

he's probably the reason why you're sitting in his lap in the first place. you're about to sit next to him when he just pulls you and plops you down onto his lap.

or, you could've done this on your own.

probably makes a 'tsk tsk tsk' noise and shakes his head playfully. then proceeds to tease the life out of you.

makes eye contact. looooots of eye contact and an innocent-looking smile that's spouting (not-so-innocent) words.

does whatever it takes to get you flustered. if you try get up to leave, he just wraps his arms tight around you and buries himself in your chest.

or, you might not have the ability to leave in the first place. that's a definite possibility—he probably holds you in place with a very firm grip. he's strong, we all know this very well...

so, there's almost no chance of you getting to escape.

anyways, he's definitely surprised if you initiate this. he doesn't show it on his face, but if he had less control of his facial features, his eyebrows would be near the moon and his mouth would be in the core of the earth.

after he thinks he's done making fun of you (for now...) he'll probably give you a kiss. short, but lingering.

he's so unpredictable, though—there's so much he could do from this point.

he might suddenly stand up and throw you onto his back to give you a piggy-back ride. he might cradle you in his arms like a baby while continuing to make fun of you. he might toss you onto the couch and bury you with pillows (and kisses).

point is, he does soooo much to be extra and annoy you. but... he does let you know he loves you a lot !!

notes. guys i think i'm going crazy i have literally so many little dreamland scenarios in my head of all my favs. (they're the only thing that gets me through school so i don't want them to go i'll stay crazy)

Flatland (The book) is pretty good!

I read Flatland not too long ago, I´m afraid to admit that I saw the 2007 adaptation before I read the book fully. I didn´t change the fact that the movie was a hot mess to me.

At first I chalked it up to be just an indie movie from almost two decades ago, of course the script would be messy and the visuals jarring. But the moment I gave myself the time to read the book in it´s entirety, I realized how bad Ladd missed what the book was aiming to teach, and make fun of. Bigots like him :^/

Not only that, but something that irks me so fucking bad is the whole Chromatists ark in the movie; not only is it extremelly inaccurate to the book. This being A.Square´s retelling of a historical event that happened so long ago, we can´t really take A.Square´s word for it, as it was probably altered to make the Chromatists as "irrational liberals" and the Circular Priests as "the voice of reason".

Bringing this very much innacurate retelling to the present day of Flatland feels to me, like a very poorly made strawman.

I need to mention too, the leader of the Chromatists, an irregular shape. Which could´ve been an interesting approach to the differences between both kindoms. But,, the way he´s characterized really hits me the wrong way, feels extremelly ableist. And just serves to further the point that Ladd Ehlinger didn´t comprenhend the message the book was trying to comunicate.

Or he did, afterall, the Chromatist movement was a in-book version of a human rights movement, as it seeked women´s and irregular liberation and individuality.

To be honest, It could be interesting to explore a Chromatist resurgence in Flatland, the book has plenty of worldbuilding and potencial to have new stories written about it. (I´m yet to hear of a good adaptation though, If you have any good adaptations around this world, I would love to read it!). But not by people like Ladd.

Another thing I would like to mention is how much Ladd butchered A.Sphere´s personality in this movie. I hope I´m not the only one who has this sentiment. A.Sphere is supposed to be humble, he scoffs at the idea of somehow being a supperior, perfect being. He´s also empathetic and patient, things A.Square mentions he associate´s with women, and therefore inferior. Something that is supposed to challenge his view, as he has this notion that A.Sphere is a godly entity.

I believe this was a counsious desition; by scrumbing this character of this personality, now he doesn´t have to challenge A.Square´s (and by proxy Ladd himself) bigoted views.

I can still understand people might´ve grown attached to the character, I trust you have two brains and understand the core message of Flatland regardless.

This just goes to show media literacy is a very crutial skill, specially as an adult.
