You know how fanart always makes Jon's eyes glow when he uses his powers? I always imagined he has these nearly unremarkable dark brown eyes that turn to tiger's eye if the light hits right.
Before his transformation, when he witnesses a real statement, it's like a nicotine hit. As he gets stronger, it's less innocuous as nicotine and more like heroin. That soft brown that Martin fell in love with is the tiniest ring around the black of his blown pupils and, after the transformation, nothing really changes physically. He still stares the statement giver down with this hungry look, drowning them in the black holes that used to be his pupils. But now the statement giver feels the icy, oppressive energy, the claws that hook deep and drag that fear out for anyone to see.
Like in MAG142, Scrutiny, when the woman is talking about how he's sitting there, gulping down all her terror. It's like when you stare at something so hard your field of view distorts like fishbowl POV and she was forced to sit there under that.
for anyone who doesn't know what I mean by fishbowl, I've attached an example below the cut

Me when I’m about to explain why Scrutiny is the most important episode in TMA season 4 and how it’s not just a one off to give us an excuse to know how far gone Jon is.
And how it’s actually a parallel to how Jon was when he was first touched by the eye to how he is now which also give a good look at how terrifying this all is to a normal person because none of the cast are normal anymore and we the listeners aren’t either.
It’s a gateway to John needing more fear to live and an in depth look on what would happen to a regular person if they dealt with this which foreshadows the world’s reaction to the eyepocalypse.
And no I’m not insane or justifying my favorite season 4 episode and I’m not biased just because I love when supernatural shows give an outsider perspective so we can see how sane people in world perceive it:

MAG142 - #0181206 │ Scrutiny
John
John
I can't believe I'm the one who's saying this, but John
that's not how you communicate
you can't just eat people's trauma
bad John
spit it out
I swear to the gods, Daisy's need for company's gonna save Martin's stupid ass
or John being a suicidal idiot, lol

Left Behind 03 By Jeff Stanford, 2024 Buy prints at: https://jeff-stanford.pixels.com/
An elderly man with deeply wrinkled skin peers curiously from behind a decrepit wooden structure. His eyes convey a sense of intensity and scrutiny, highlighted by the stark black and white contrast.

That made her even more irritated—she didn't want him as an inner commentator, didn't want to be measuring her conduct against the yardstick of his opinion. Damn him.

About looking at them
We — older female fans of younger men — are often accused of our fannish enthusiasm being nothing but inappropriate attraction to beautiful young bodies.
My eyesight is not very good to start with, and for very, very many years it was not fully corrected. So I learned to orient myself in the social world mostly by sound. The sound of people’s voices, their breathing, their creaking joints, etc.
So for me a test question “am I attracted to the surface beauty, to the pretty clothes, to the professional make-up required for photoshoots and performances, even to the elegance of movement”, or am I their fan because of something else, is to ask myself “would I be their fan if I were blind”.
And my answer is “absolutely yes”. The songs. The tone of voice in thoughtful, most close-to-authentic interviews. The roles not dubbed over by different actors. The meanings conveyed in long published interviews.
Of course, without sight, most “objects for collection/ consumption” (photos, videos) would be not available to me, but would it really matter to me? What would my way of being in fandom be if I were blind? A really interesting question to consider.
What I am looking for with my “eyes of the heart” is moral beauty. If you have been surviving fan wars etc. etc. for years, you are, by default, a survivor. And if you behave with utmost grace and produce excellent works under the pressure of constant intense public scrutiny, sometimes quite invasive, — you are capable of something absolutely astonishing, which I can only acknowledge with deepest respect and awe. And a bit of concern about the personal costs of such achievements. Because we are all human, none of us is a demigod. And our bodies have limits of what they can bear.
So I can be a fan and don’t pay attention to the physical beauty. But the fact that I am not fully blind, is, of course, a bonus. Because exceptional physical beauty, besides moral beauty, also inspires awe, and awe opens the mind to the vast mysteries of the universe. Looking at beautiful people helps us cultivate positive states.

The belief that all lower-class women were sexually active meant that working class women friends were suspected of sexual activity, and from 1700 single women friendships came under scrutiny and suspicion. Working-class women living and working together could be separated by the labour laws, which allowed magistrates to rule how and where women worked. Four women at South Milton, Devon, who had been self-sufficient in a spinning house together, were ordered to go into domestic service, where they would almost certainly be separated.

Scrutiny
- written by Minerva Cerridwen; photo by Ava Kelly
For ten years the humans had schemed, constructed, and carefully coaxed, and now they’d achieved their goal. Under the guise of a furniture-building company, they were finally invited in the realm of the gods to deliver the new cabinet they had designed: fit to hold divine ideas and otherworldly suggestions in a neat system of transparent folders. What was much more important, at least to the humans behind this great plan, were the loads of cameras, microphones, and wiretap installations integrated everywhere in, on, and around the cabinet.
They had spent so much time praying for a sign. If the gods weren’t going to send any clear answers on what the Right Way was for them to live, the humans would simply force them to reveal their secrets.
The employees who made the delivery didn’t get to spend much time in the godly realm, as the filing cabinet had been meticulously prepared and was easy to assemble—but that didn’t matter, because they would soon learn much more about that mysterious place anyway. The recording came through, clear and uninterrupted, and at first it was just a series of exclamations from the gods about how beautiful the cabinet was, how much easier the new filing system would make their work.
But then one of the gods introduced the first suggestion that would be placed into the folders: “You know how humans think we can constantly see everything they are doing? Maybe it’d be a good idea to actually start spying on them, if they’re coming up with such wonderful inventions. I’m sure we could learn a lot!”

[Image description: On a background of slightly wrinkled white sheets of paper, there is a smattering of long, silvery steel nails and very-dark-red glass spheres; white light falls onto the objects in such a way that bright red shadows from the spheres contrast with the black shadows of the nails and paper wrinkles.]

Mexico's Judicial Overhaul Faces Scrutiny After Historic 13%
Mexico’s unprecedented judicial elections concluded with 13% voter participation, as citizens navigated ballots listing 7,700 candidates for 2,681 positions. President Claudia Sheinbaum defended the process—mandated by her predecessor Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s 2024 constitutional reform—as a step toward democratizing a judiciary long criticized for corruption. The ruling Morena party framed…
