#365DaysOfVGM Day 204:
MAIN THEME (Space Harrier; including the “Sega Superstars Tennis” version, the “Sega Mark III” version, and the SPACE HARRIER ARRANGE VERSION ~ MAIN THEME version [Galaxy Force ~G.S.M. SEGA 1~], among others [1985/2008/1986/1988])
An almost 40-year old classic, one that yelled the optimistic “outer space future” feel of 80s music in the east, even into the 90s!
It’s quite difficult to find a better way to express such an era in video game form, with so many different versions that I had a hard time narrowing it down to just 4 selections for today’s listing. “GET READY!”, cuz all of these are fairly long for its time!
(Length before loop [Original]: Nearly 3 minutes, [Sega Superstars Tennis]: 2.5+ minutes, [Sega Mark III]: Nearly 3.5 minutes, [ARRANGE]: Nearly 5 minutes)

I was able to get these adaptors for my Mega Sg when Analogue recently released the second batch. The Mega Sg (an amazing Genesis console) comes with the SEGA Master System adapter but now I also have the ability to play my SEGA Cards, Game Gear and Mark III games on my Mega Sg connected by HDMI to any modern TV. At $70 USD (including $20 USD shipping) they weren’t cheap but I just know these will hard to find down the road. #RetroVideoGames #RetroMegabit #SegaDude #RetroCollective #SegaGenesis #Sega #16bit #RetroVideoGameCollection #RetroVideoGameCollector #8bit #MasterSystem #MarkIII #Mark3 #SegaMark #SegaMarkIII #MegaDrive #SegaMasterSystem #Genesis #SegaMegaDrive #Analogue #MegaSg #Adapters #AnalogoueMegaSg #MegaSgAdapterSet https://www.instagram.com/p/CFknsttHm7D/?igshid=1xufa6d6jn3pu

Yes, Jupiter’s Sega Picross Game Is Still In Development For Nintendo Switch
Picross specialist Jupiter launched its new game Picross S6 on the Nintendo Switch eShop last month. So, what’s next for the Japanese developer now that it’s complete? In an update on social media, it’s reminded fans its Sega-themed Picross title Picross S: Mega Drive & Mark III Edition (TBC) is “currently under development”. #NintendoSwitch Liteのブルーがよく似合う「PICROSS S MEGADRIVE & MARKIII…

Alex Kidd in Shinobi World is a game that just punishes you. Seriously, Bring out the bondage gear. This game is beautiful but oh so cruel. If you want a fun challenge though, this is a game for you. ° ° ° ° ° #segalife #segajunky #segafan #sega #32x #segafreak #segacd #genesis #megapower #megadrive #team1upem #followme#retrocollective #retrogaming #retrogamer #gamer#videogames #retrogames #8bit #mastersystem #markIII #nintendont #classicgaming #blastprocessing #segajunkies #segamastersystem #alexkiddinshinobiworld #alexkidd

Sorry! So sorry! I’m blocking the view of the gorgeous SEGA Collection behind me. It’s a common opinion that Japanese SEGA Mega Drive games look really fantastic. And it’s true! But I’m also loving the now incredibly retro look of the white grid boxes for SEGA Master System games and their very often cheesy cover art! If you look at the bottom right hand corner you can get a peak at a few Japanese Game Gear and Mark III games. And in good Japanese form the artwork is wonderful! #RetroVideoGames #RetroMegabit #SegaDude #RetroCollective #SegaGenesis #Sega #16bit #8bit #RetroVideoGameCollection #RetroVideoGameCollector #SegaMasterSystem #MasterSystem #SMS #GameGear #SegaMarkIII #MarkIII #MegaDrive #SegaMegaDrive #Japan #Japanese #Import https://www.instagram.com/p/CFw7xTZhJ6n/?igshid=fmcunlbp96ml

The SEGA 3D Classics Collection: Maze Walker 3D
Tumblr media
Original Release Date: January 31, 1988 (JPN)
Original Hardware: SEGA Master System/Mark 3
Maze Walker (or Maze Hunter, as it was originally released as in North America) is basically one of those tech demo experiences that manages to make it to retail somehow. It shows off the practical effects of SEGA’s 3D Glasses peripheral better than almost any game, and I would go so far as to say that even if you could play it without the glasses, it would be of substantially less value to do so. Unfortunately, like many such experiences, Maze Walker stays fun for approximately as long as the 3D effect remains novel to the player. Once that fades, it’s nothing more than a laborious, tedious affair with no real pay-off. Guiding your character through the mazes takes forever due to his plodding pace, and although the enemies aren’t particularly threatening, if one manages to tag you, you’ll be sent back to the beginning of the level to begin your slow march anew. Imagine if the overheard areas from Konami’s first game based on the Ninja Turtles were separated out from the side-scrolling stages, were set to half-speed, and had most of their sense of danger removed, and you’ve got Maze Walker.
Tumblr media
Still, as one of the few truly original efforts for the 3D Glasses peripheral, I can’t deny the game has some historical value. If it were ever to be collected somewhere, the Nintendo 3DS is the place to do it, too. Similar to previous inclusions from the Master System hardware in these collections, Maze Walker doesn’t get much in the way of extras or bonus options. There’s a Helper Mode that gives you a pile of extra lives, the option to use the Japan-only FM Sound Unit for the audio, a choice of which region’s version you want to play, and some display settings. Nothing that helps all that much with the game’s pervading feeling of boredom, sadly. I suppose it’s worth firing up once just to check it out, but it’s difficult to find reasons to actually see the game through to the end of its 30 stages.
Tumblr media
Play It Because: It’s the first option and the bonus menu and your trigger finger is a little too fast.
Bonus Trivia: Maze Walker and shoot-em-up Blade Eagle were the only two fully original titles that supported the SEGA 3D Glasses. So yes, there was a 3D gaming attempt less successful than the Virtual Boy, but only by a whisker.
Previous: 3D Ecco the Dolphin
Next: Fantasy Zone (Mark 3)

What do you mean Japan got all of my favourite video games first?! . Many kick-butt Sega Master System games were already out on the Sega Mark III before the Sega Master System even existed. . Actually, I think it’s OK. These game came to me at exactly the right age and while I was hang’n with a close friend who was equally nuts for Sega as I was. . #Sega #MasterSytem #MarkIII #Mark3 #RetroVideoGames #RetroCollective #SegaMasterSystem #SegaMarkIII #SegaMark3 #SegaMark #Japan #8bit #SMS https://www.instagram.com/p/BpBAfj2lhRw/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=f8p2wni3iy68
