SEGA Sonic Cosmo Fighter's English version found and dumped online
Tumblr media
SEGASonic Cosmo Fighter, a 1993 Sonic arcade space shooter title, was always a topic of interest between some fans due to its' extremely limited Japan-only run in the 90s. Now, an official English version has been recently released and dumped online.
Found by Twitter user Iamamazing100 around June 2021, the English version of the game recently got its ROM dumped, although while there's still no way to play it through the well known MAME emulator at the moment, some fans have already made some discoveries.
User FrideyNehgGuy shared the dialogue for the game in English, which featured never-heard-before voices for Sonic and Dr. Robotnik, and Sonic sporting a deeper than usual voice.
The fact that an English version for this game was originally planned was considered a significant discovery, and it'll be another landmark for those interested in preserving Sonic the Hedgehog history.

A rare English language version of the sit-in arcade game SEGA Sonic Cosmo Fighter has been dumped and released to the public. It's not currently playable, but fans can download the ROM in anticipation of the game being operable on the MAME emulator when it is next updated.
The ROM dump was provided by Twitter user "IAMAMAZING100" (which is, actually, an amazing name), who has reportedly been in possession of a legitimate SEGA Sonic Cosmo Fighter arcade cabinet since June 2021.
While there is currently no way to play the ROM once downloaded, eager Sonic fans have taken to run the file through audio software regardless to see what happens... and surprisingly enough you can hear the voices of Sonic and Eggman as the game runs.
SEGA Sonic Cosmo Fighter was already an incredibly rare piece of Sonic (and arcade) history, due to its extremely limited Japan-only run in the early 90s, but the fact that a legitimate English language version exists has been something of a legendary find. The fact that we have a dump that may soon be playable will go a long way for arcade game preservation efforts.

SegaSonic The Hedgehog
Original platform: Arcade
Original Release: September 1993
Available to buy: No
Tumblr media
I wasn’t able to play this in the fully intended method: this is a Japanese-only arcade game that uses a trackball. The closest I could get is using an analogue stick to emulate a trackpad. This makes it much easier to move at full speed as you just hold instead of having to constantly roll a ball, but at the same time it’s a lot more difficult to control your speed. I would love to be able to try this out with a proper trackball, but they seem to be more expensive than I thought they would be.
SegaSonic the Hedgehog is an isometric platformer made for coin-operated arcades. This means it’s a short game, where each life costs you money. To account for this, Sonic has a health bar that drops when you get hit, or when you fall down gaps (you instantly respawn with less health), so it’s not as strict as it could be. To get a higher score, you have to collect as many rings as possible, with Dr Robotnik laughing at you if you don’t get enough. Enemies also drop rings, so if you want to get to the end you can avoid most of them, but will get a low score. In SegaSonic the Hedgehog, Sonic (along with Mighty and Ray if you play with more players) is constantly being chased by traps, giant fireballs, collapsing paths. At the start, these shock Sonic as he’s screaming constantly, but he seems to get used as the game moves on. You have to keep moving constantly. It’s a very fast paced game but even with the emulated stick, it felt very precise to move. If you run into an edge, Sonic stops on the edge for a brief second before falling, giving you a chance to move back onto the path.
The game also looks absolutely beautiful. The blocky design is incredibly detailed, and the levels all have a magnificent look to them. Every moment is a marvel to look at, with some stunning animation to look at as well.
I would love for SegaSonic the Hedgehog to get a re-release, and I feel that Sega could get an analogue stick to work better than emulating a trackball works. It’s something that more people should get a chance to play. I suspect playing with a trackball is better, as you will get the excitement from requiring a lot of physical effort for moving faster, but it’s still a nice game to play in the non-ideal way, and is short and sweet.

BLOCKBUSTER!TAILS
So, umm, really sorry for not getting to Tails yesterday. I was in a Discord call and lost my train of thought. 😅 Anyway, here we have Tails in Ray’s role…but Ray in canon didn’t have anything to do outside of SegaSonic, Knuckles Chaotix, and Mania in the games, so I had to get a little creative.
Also, if you’re wondering why he looks to have eyebags is because…
✨He’s a sleep deprived mess✨
After the events of my version of SegaSonic (the arcade game where Sonic escapes from Eggman with Mighty and Ray,) Tails sadly gets left behind because of the surroundings crumbling around him and got him stuck. In the aftermath, Commander Noah (Abraham Towers in the role of Eggman) takes him in and has his team brainwash him, making him think his friends abandoned him and the views of Noah are not only the correct worldview but the only worldview.
From this, he works day and night to make machines for Noah’s army akin to the movie badniks and researching into things that he can use to help out Noah’s cause such as the Phantom Ruby in my Forces Story and the Chao (I swapped Wisps and Chao) in my Sonic Colors Story.
As for design, I finally started to add gradients to my eyes to make them more realistic and dynamic. If you payed attention to Blockbuster!Shade’s design, I actually started those eye gradients with her.
Anyway, again, I do apologize for not keeping up my promise to yall, and I promise to post the final design I have so far during my lunch break at work, Blockbuster!Rouge the Bat

Day 8!! >_<
Tumblr media
Hii everyone!! Today, I just relaxed at the arcade with Tails!! \(^_^)/
We played some Segasonic Arcade, some racing games (we both came last place (。•ˇ‸ˇ•。) ), got some popcorn in that fun little Sonic Popcorn shop game (I don’t know if we could have added flavours or not, but I wish they had caramel :C ), then we played that police game (kinda boring.) and FINALLY we played the Sonic Olympics game!! I felt exhausted after that, so I I just grabbed a Mild hot dog and tails got a sausage roll.ヽ( ´O`)ゞ💤
On the way out though, Tails spotted a dance machine. I was kinda sceptical at first because it wasn’t ddr and didn’t have a screen, but apparently it played differently. The arrows in front of you lit up and you had to step on the tiles in the same direction quicker than the other person, which was a little confusing… buuuuut I figured it out with Tails’ help. Anyways, he unfortunately but unsurprisingly beat me. He was so fast at that game I couldn’t even see his legs!! Hanging out with Sonic has done some good for him!! ^_^ It was fun though!! I’ll have to come back with Tails again. Maybe even Sonic!! (>_<)
(hii!! If you read this far, please repost my stuff!! I’ve noticed that my activity has been going down and id appreciate any help I can get :,3 .)
Amy Rose signing out!! ^_^
