John Kramer never wanted Mark Hoffman as a convert. Mark is and was always meant to be a tool for John to use. Since Mark's game of Russian roulette that did not require a true "offering," such as murder or pain which for John was an manifistation of the individuals will to live, Mark's identity as a convert is at best loosely based upon John's need for physical strength and more hands to create the great gears of his games. This distinct difference in Mark's game and therefor conversion story and apprenticeship creates a deep divide between his role and the role of both Amanda Young and Lawrence Gordon.
In this essay...

* Even though Seth’s trap was inescapable, Seth still believed he could’ve escaped. He only learned it was rigged against him after the fact. The rule I’m following is that I’m excluding people who, during the game, were aware that they had no control over their fate.
* Hoffman’s game was when John blackmailed him into becoming his apprentice. The shotgun chair scene.

Mark Hoffman x GN! Reader
Tumblr media
A/N: Wtf, I had this basically finished work in my drafts all this time?? Anyways, enjoy.
Tumblr media
Summary: After Mark Hoffman's true identity has been revealed, his personal apprentice has to step in.
Warnings: Angst, Blood
Notes: Hurt/Comfort, Takes place in between SAW 6 and 7
Words: 1800
"Almost done..."
You were in the very same warehouse as the participants of the current game, tinkering on some of your mentor's latest inventions.
Mark would never openly admit, but while he was the mastermind behind most traps, it was your finishing touch that made them possible.
Not bad for a basically self-taught engineer, right?
As your eyes wanderes to the timer on the top corner of the livestream, you realized that this test was almost over. To not get distracted you had muted the old TV. However due to the proximity, most of the dampened screams would still dring to your ear.
Gladly, the more you get used to all of this, the more selective your hearing becomes - so you had already fallen deaf to them.
You huffed while trying to lift the heavy tool onto the workbench again, not bothering to wait for Mark to help you. Taking a sip of water, you watched the subject reaching the final part of his test.
Unbelievable that it’s already been one year since you’ve become the next generations Jigsaw’s apprentice, assisting Mark with every game ever since John and Amanda had passed away...
...and in your eyes, the sacrifices you had to make were all worth it.
Grabbing a towel to pat off the sweat from your face and chest, your mind wandered back to the day you had revealed yourself to him. Being a mere admirer of Jigsaw's work and philosophy, having found out Detective Hoffman's double life on your own.
But he was different than John Kramer and Amanda Young. Played by his own rules, which you oddly sympathized with.
Why giving those dangers to society - like Seth Baxter - a second chance? They shouldn't be allowed to roam freely. No, all they deserved was to be put down for good, after experiencing what their victims had.
You remembered Mark's hands on your throat the second you confessed to him. Couldn't blame him, though - last time someone told him "I know who you are", there was a shotgun draped to his neck shortly after.
The mere fact that you had survived this encounter, let alone having been declared his secret accomplice, made your chest swell with pride.
After all, you had gained somewhat trust and respect of basically the most misanthropic person on earth.
After a while of negotiation Mark had been impressed by your skill, both physical and mental. Having figured out his identity when not even the police or FBI couldn't...
...furthermore, your almost obsessively worship of his every action was exactly the kind of ego stroke he just couldn't reject.
And so you ended up his loyal subordinate, working for him from the shadows and taking every wish as your command.
Over time, the two of you had become a lethal combination - complimenting each talents and evening out the other's flaws.
It was pretty obvious that he was a sociopath, unable to sharw any personal bond with anyone. You may have shared a heated fling or a passionate night occasionally, but that was it.
This man was just using you, and you have been equally deranged enough to enjoy this. Addicted to the thrill of adrenaline that came to being associated with him.
You’d follow him blindly - even if it meant your own death.
Speaking of...
You jumped at the sound of a heavy steel door opening, immediately cocking your gun towards the entrance - force of habit...
...yet instead of a threat, something even worse came inside.
"Mark!"
This was certainly not the first time you had seen him covered in that much blood, but this time was different - it was his own, and much to your surprise made you freak out.
The man mutely limped towards your workshop, only a dirty cloth covering his torn cheek. "Shit, you're going to get an infection..."
Rushing to get the first aid kid while he threw the reverse bear trap onto the table, you figured this was not the time to ask about what exactly happened.
Not that he'd be able to answer anyway even if he wanted to, given his current state.
You couldn't help but laugh as he tried to snatch the medical supplies out of your hand. "You know you're allowed to need help sometimes, right?"
He furrowed his brows at you, and while most normal people would be intimidated by his demeanour, you found him almost adoringly stubborn.
"Now come here, would you..." you ordered as he finally let go off of the kit, worry present in your tone.
The man grunted approvingly, making you laugh. “You know, Amanda was right: You really are one of the last cavemen.”
Good thing he wasn’t able to talk right not - otherwise he’d advise you to never take that filthy name into your mouth ever again if you wanted to keep on living.
When he was finally sat, you carefully evaluated the wound - even though on the inside, it was hard to keep it together seeing him that way.
You were amazed at his composure up until now - the pain must be agonizing...
There was no time to lose either, a major blood vessel was torn and he was still actively losing a lot of blood.
Much to his luck, you were prepared for every eventuality. Glad you took those anatomy and first aid lessons back in the day, you just knew with your kind of profession that would pay off someday.
You quickly cleaned both hands from the motor oil, before pouring a whole bottle of your mentor's booze over them and the wound.
Deeply concentrated, you stuck out your tongue as you started patching him up. Hoffman warily eyed your every move, every stitch you so carefully placed to reconstruct his facial features.
This whole time, Mark had one hand firmly placed on your knee, squeezing ever so slightly. You were almost done, admiring his strenght to not even flinch as you patched him back together.
“Too bad for that handsome face, though...” you mumbled to yourself, speaking faster than your mind could catch up on. Not that he’d care about appearance or something like that anyway. “But men with scars are pretty handsome, you know?”
You handed him a mirror, scolding him to not touch the wound as he evaluating your handiwork. "The gentleman is allowed to thank me now” you chuckled as you noticed he wasn’t sure if he could talk again now.
"That bitch is gonna pay for this" he finally spoke, still a little slurred since he'd need to get used to the feeling.
"You're welcome" you rolled your eyes, still cheerful before busying yourself with bandaging his hand as well. “There's not much I can do with a fracture like this, but it'll probably heal itself. Just try not using it too much. Punch with the other hand, maybe? Haha..."
“We need to go” he stated with that gravely voice of his, face contorting in pain as he tried to clench his fist. "Jill tried to kill me. She got away, the police is most likely on their way."
"Ten steps ahead of you." There was enough time to understand the mess Hoffman had gotten himself into later. So for now you quickly threw both your identification papers in the fire barrel that had kept you warm until now, before turning to him.
You softly pushed him down onto the chair again, no words needed to tell him he should rest and let you handle this for a change. Just packing a bag with all the necessities, covering the workshop in gasoline and you were good to go.
“How sad...” you thought, turning around to watch your work go up in flames “I was just done with the tool.”
As if Mark knew what you were thinking, he rubbed some circles on your back before pushing you to walk faster. "We can always make a new one. Let's go."
The future might be uncertain, but one thing you was sure of: Soon, Detective Mark Hoffman would officially be a wanted criminal...
...but as long as you had each other, there was still hope for a good ending to this story.
"It's not over, but I need to stay incognito from now on" he uttered a little out of breath, your old car shaking a little as the heavy man entered the backseat. "You'll need to make the preparations and anything else I can entrust to you."
"Of course" you acknowledged, rummaging in your bag until you found what you were looking for. "Everything you want."
Just when you were getting the srynge into his field of view, Mark would panic, painfully grabbing your wrist to stop you.
"No..." he was so utterly exhausted, yet terrified of the possibility to be forcefully put to sleep like his victims and himself once.
“Mark...calm down” you cooed understandingly, your palm rubbing his cheek. “C’mon, it’s me after all. There's just morphine in there, it's not enough to knock you out. I promise."
Being such a control freak, it was hard for him to be at the mercy of another. Yet he nodded mutely and rolled up his sleeve to inject the pain medication directly into his bloodstream.
After all the fucked up things happening, sometimes he’d forget that there was actually one person he could trust.
"You know" he sighed, sinking deeper into the car seat as the drug showed it's effect, making him slowly but steadily relax. "You're everything I have."
“That’s the morphine speaking” you giggled, trying to keep your eyes on the road and he couldn't think but wonder if you always had such a soothing voice.
...and with you humming so sweetly, the sunset light illuminating your skin like this...have you always been this beautiful, or was he really just high?
“Maybe" he ultimately spoke, deciding he'd have to figure it out after everything was over. "Or it just makes me talk about things I usually keep to myself.”
You cracked a smile at this half-assed answer. Typical - but you admittedly liked even this part about him.
“Only this last game...” he continued stammering, and it was actually cute to see this softer side of this brute of a man. “John Kramer’s work is almost done.”
“And what are you going to do afterwards? Any plans, boss?”
With him being on the backseat, your eyes would only briefly meet through the rearview mirror...
...and what you saw may be the same man you knew for so long already, and yet so different.
Happy, somehow.
Smiling for a change. Genuinely and wholeheartedly, not this fake one he'd put up to fit in with society.
And you knew this one was just for you.
“When this is all over, I want it to be you and me.”

You and Peter Strahm had been good friends. Distant but, there was trust. So much trust that he mailed you something before he disappeared. Everyone said he was the accomplice. But the package he left you? Well, it implied otherwise.
It was full of old newspapers, articles and police records. And it all pointed to one man. The last man you expected. Your work partner,
“Hoffman.” You muttered to yourself, slamming the folders shut, only praying this was wrong. Hoping that strahm’s lead on the case was nothing more than a delusion. Your feelings for Mark didn’t help this. It only fed the dread as your stomach stirs.
You and Mark had been assigned as partners for many years. And in those years had you not once let your feelings get in the way. You were professional. So was he. Almost too professional. A very closed man. Sharp, and clever.
Too clever.
You gulp, reluctantly reopening the files Strahm sent you.
“Boyfriend kills Detectives sister.”
You read, finger tips brushing the old article. Your head buzzing, thinking - till your eyes snap upward. Everything clicked. It made sense. But how could you guarantee it? Maybe Strahm was chasing a delusional. Or maybe he wasn’t, and your feelings for Mark were automatically defending him.
Your head throbs. You wince, and slam the folders shut, huffing.
This was ridiculous.
You slide the folders into your draw, intent on forgetting them.
Tomorrow was another day.
You hadn’t forgot Strahm’s folders like you had hoped. In fact, it’s all you could think about. Even now, at your work desk as you stare at the wall. So focused that you completely drowned out the sound of the office. It was busy today. Phone lines ringing, typing, chatter and the terrible hum over the overhead lights blaring down on you.
You thought about Seth Baxter. What the odds were of John Kramer targeting him of all people. You decided it was slim. It didn’t make sense.
“Look alive, y/n.”
You’re pulled from your thoughts instantly, head whirling to Mark, who stood over your desk. A hot coffee in his hand.
“You looked like you needed this.” He says.
Your throat runs dry.
Mark raises his brow at you. You can only stare at him. A sense of worry raising the hairs on your neck.
You couldn’t deny Strahm’s theory.
Mark pulls a face at your silence,
“Okay.” He says to himself, putting your coffee on your desk. You look at it, forcing yourself to snap out of it and offer a weary smile.
“Sorry,” You begin, faking a breathy laugh.
“Long night.”
“I bet.” Mark replies, his tone dryer than ever as he looks at you questionably.
“You still up for lunch?” He says, nodding at the clock. Almost twelve. Almost lunch. which meant being alone with him. You swallow, hard.
“Sorry - I think I’ll stay behind. I was running late this morning so,” You pause, your brain stirring for a proper excuse. He’s not buying it. You can tell by his expression. It makes your breath hitch, and you look back to your computer. His eyes, far too piercing. Too intimidating. All knowing. He knew you well. Too well. Especially well to know when something wasn’t right. But he dropped it, side eyeing you as he turned to leave.
“Right.” Is all he says, his tone almost mocking you as he leaves.
A relief lifts, and you exhale, squeezing your eyes shut.
5 p.m rolls around. Then 6 p.m. It was getting late. But you were fully intent on staying behind. You wanted to go through police files. Just to find anything that would debunk Strahm’s theory.
You were desperate.
Mainly because despite your newfound anxiety toward Mark, your heart still leaped when you saw him. Your cheeks warmed. Your legs, unconsciously squeezing together in anticipation. It made you feel sick. You wouldn’t know what to do with yourself if Strahm was right.
You haven’t seen Mark since lunch. And the office was empty now. You took that as your opportunity.
Cautious, you stand. Your legs like jelly, you’d been sat for most of the day. Too head wrecked to move. Too worried to bump into Mark. Your coffee was un touched too. You had let it go cold.
Exhaustion hits you once you stand.
“Fuck,” You mutter, stretching. Your hand kneading your neck as you walk toward the office door.
You push through, looking left and right as you check the halls before stepping out. It was empty. You relaxed.
You reached the files room and entered, flicking the lights on. It was dimly lit. You walked through the isles looking for ‘B’. You decided to read more into the Seth Baxter case. Maybe you could find something. Anything. You reached the isle alphabetically listed ‘B’ and walked down it slowly, pointing your finger at the folders as you scanned for Seth’s name.
“Baxter, Baxter, Baxter …”
You whispered to yourself, reaching the folder finally.
Bingo.
“Gotcha.” You say triumphant, as you slip the file from the folder.
You lean against the shelving as you opened the file. Disappointed to find nothing but things you already knew. You huff, flicking through. The page lands on an image of Mark’s sister. You can’t help the guilt stirring in your stomach. You’d only met her once. But it was enough to know she was lovely.
“Working overtime?”
You gasp, spinning around in shock to see Mark standing there. You slam the file shut, pulling it close to your chest.
“God, Mark!” You exclaim, your heart battering.
“You scared the shit out of me!”
Marks smiling. Only slightly, but it’s not a smile of amusement. It’s proud. As if he’s figured you out. It makes you gulp.
You don’t like the growing silence. The tension. You calm your breathing and your mind. Forcing a smile,
“I thought you went home.” You say, trying to compose yourself despite your legs telling you to run.
“I did. I forgot my phone,” He shrugs his shoulders, pulling a face.
“Just didn’t expect to find you still here. What’re you doing?”
“Nothing.” You reply, quick.
His eyes shoot down to the folder in your grasp. You follow his gaze.
“Doesn’t look like nothing, l/n.” He takes a few steps close, towering over you. Your dry lips part over his height. His broad chest. The way it rises and falls. He goes to take the file, but you’re clutching it still. His eyes snap to yours.
Defeated, you let go.
He sighs through his nose, his expression warning you to back down as he opens the folder. You feel your heart pounding against your chest - thrumming in your ears. Heat rising to your cheeks due to the closeness of his chest despite being petrified. You can’t find your words. No defence, no explanation. You practically accept your fate as you watch his expression harden at the folder.
“Well,” He says, harshly closing the folder over as he lifts his gaze. His lips, pouting as ever. His eyes, sharp and investigating.
Your mouth parts to speak, he cuts you off,
“You avoid me all day. And now this?” He says, shaking the file in his grip. You can’t look at him. Your eyes downward at your feet.
“You wanna tell me what’s going on with you?” He says again.
You stare at the ground.
You hear him huff as he puts the file back. “Go home, y/n. We’ll talk about this tomorrow.”
You hear him turn and begin to walk away. The space from him allows you to breathe, as you watch him begin to leave. Something in you clicks. A confidence. You remember your job. A server of the law. You push away your feelings for him and take two steps after him.
“I know who you are, Mark.” You announce boldly. His shoes scuff as he halts, his back still to you.
You straighten your back in some attempt to feel in charge.
His head whips over his shoulder, “Huh?”
You point your chin at him. “You heard me, Mark.”
A smirk tugs at the corner of his mouth as he turns to you, “Really?” His voice is low and smooth, like honey. You found it hard to dislike.
“Enlighten me then.” He says, putting his hands out to express his words as if offering you the stage before putting them on his hips.
You glare at him.
“You’re a detective aren’t you? Do your job. Detect.” He pushes, his tone mocking you. You tried not to feel small or discouraged.
“You’re an accomplice to Jigsaw.” You state.
“Oh yeah? How’d you reach that conclusion? We’ve been partners for -”
“Stop, Mark. Strahm left me everything. All the evidence. You killed Seth, you blamed Jigsaw and now he’s got you wrapped around his finger.”
He’s quiet, his expression fierce as he watches you unravel.
“Hasn’t he?”
“You trust Peter Strahm over me?”
“I trust my instincts.”
“Well your instincts are wrong.”
“They’ve got me this far.” You snap.
He shakes his head, visibly clenching his jaw as his cheek flexes.
“You’ve crossed a line, y/n.” He bites, turning on his heel to leave, “I’m taking this up with Erikson.”
You pull your gun.
“Stop.”
You don’t know what came over you. You didn’t want this. At all. It hurt to even point your gun at him. Maybe you were getting ahead of yourself. Your hand shakes.
You hear him sigh and turn back to you yet again, “You’re not gonna shoot me.”
You swallow hard. You’re shaking. He notices. His eyes racking over you. He takes it as an opportunity to step closer.
You adjust your grip on the gun.
Closer, he creeps before his chest is pressing against the gun.
You look at him with glossy eyes. You can’t do it.
“The safety’s on.” He says.
You unleash a breath. Shit.
His hand comes to the gun. You let him take it,
“There you go.” He hums, shoving the gun into his belt.
Your eyes close. You’re exhausted as you heave a heavy sigh.
“You’re very clever, detective.” You hear, opening your eyes upward to him.
He’s confessing?
But ..
“I’m right?” You softly say.
He takes another step, backing you up until your back hits the wall. You feel tiny. Helpless. So close you can smell his cologne. The coffee on his breath. One of his arms cages you as he splays his hand on the wall behind you.
“Mhm. And you’re not gonna say a word, are you?”
You gawk at him. He tilts his head, “Are you?”
You want to push him away. But you can’t help it. You can’t help how your legs waver - the rising heat in your face. You’re trembling.
“No.”
“No what?”
“No, Mark.”
He hums, satisfied. He can see the lust in your eyes.
“You’re gonna have to prove it, sweetheart.”
You blink at him as his free hand comes to clutch your jaw - slowly tilting your head backward.
“Open up now, C’mon. Be good.”
You press your legs together, and you can’t help a whine as it slips out as you open your mouth. God.
You felt helpless in all the best ways.
He sneers, edging close till he’s inches from your open mouth. Softly, he dips his tongue into your mouth. You moan, melting into him as you both press into an open mouthed kiss.
Your hands find his broad chest - clutching his blazer and pulling him closer to you. He obliges, groaning as a hand tangles tight into your hair - curling then pulling you away from the kiss.
You gasp, keeping close to him. Wanting more as you push up against him. He chuckles.
“You were ready to shoot me a few minutes ago. Look at you now, huh.” He mutters against your lips, snarling. His tone harsh and degrading. He gives your hair another yank. You whimper sweetly against his lips.
“You’re mine.” He growls. “Say it,” He demands.
“I’m yours.”

john kramer really took three traumatised people and turned them into his own personal murder squad.
like amanda had clearly had a pretty hard life and then john literally made her kill a man to save herself, and then he used her vulnerability to manipulate her into working with him.
and then lawrence. he put him in that bathroom and he broke him down and then he recruited him to basically help him kill people. also, i don't even think that the whole bathroom thing was even really a trap. i think john planned to recruit lawrence the entire time and he just wanted to see if lawrence was capable of killing someone. (i could honestly write a whole essay on my thoughts on the bathroom trap)
and mark. he saw his sister murdered and then the guy who killed her didn't even serve his full sentence so naturally, hoffman wanted justice. he killed seth and made it look like a jigsaw murder and john saw this as potential. he did. he took mark's grief and his anger and he exploited it for his own gain. he just clearly hadn't anticipated that hoffman would go completely off the rails (or maybe he did idk)
also, i noticed that the common denominator here is that john has evidence that all these people were capable of murdering someone if they were pushed far enough.

Theories that I don't actually believe, but have fun thinking about: Saw edition
Adam was the original Jigsaw apprentice.
While I know this isn't true, and don't actually believe Adam would even be a good apprentice, it's just funny to me how well it could actually fit into the bat shit crazy narrative of this franchise.
Consider...
John Kramer has just begun his work as Jigsaw. He's killed Cecil, and maybe a few others. Jill Tuck, concerned by his increasingly erratic behavior, hires a private investigator to tail her ex-husband and report back. Enter: Adam.
He trails John to his warehouse and either springs one of the traps and escapes, earning John's regard, or is caught by John and deemed useful for his particular skill set. Seth Baxter has just been killed and John needs someone to tail Hoffman, so Adam is recruited.
He finds most of the people in Logan's game, other than Logan, Anna, and Mitch, who John new personally. The others seem more like people that Adam would have found, or found out about given his line of work. He probably saw Carly steal the purse and inhaler and was able to track her down. I always thought that it was a stretch that John had happened to know about that, and managed to find her as well.
Adam is planted in the bathroom game because it requires two people, and to test Amanda. If you look carefully at John's reasons for testing Adam in Saw 1, they are pretty flimsy compared to Gordon's. He dislikes that Adam stalks people, even though that's what John does to grab victims as well as get a feel for Hoffman as a person, and claims he is passive in his own life, which may be true, but is a considerably weaker excuse than he usually uses when choosing test subjects. Not to mention the fact that Adam is never given any actual instructions. He was simply there to act as Amanda and Hoffman did in Saws II and IV.
The bullet that Lawrence had was a blank. It was enough to injure Adam, and would have been believable if Lawrence had decided to actually try to kill him, but he would have survived.
John can tell that Amanda is teetering on the edge over Adam's fate and has a feeling she is going to go back, so he puts Adam back in the bathroom, which is why he is still seemingly trapped there when she returns to "kill" him. This is then followed by the usual theories about the plastic not being held on for long enough, and the corpse being someone else's.
Adam was the one who switched the chain on the decoy corpses foot when he found out that John was going to leave a tape to lead Lawrence to the bathroom (maybe he's the one who convinced him to do it) with the hopes that Lawrence would realize he was still alive.
Thank you for coming to my insane and completely pointless TED Talk.

Lost In Echoes, pt. 1
DISCLAIMER: This is probably my first attempt at writing something that isn't smut or fluff, so probably not that good. But I'll let yall be the judge lol. Let me know what you think! I'm planning on this being a 3 part story but that may change.
Content: mentions of violence/murder, mark in a trap.
This is an AU where the circumstances of Mark becoming a Jigsaw apprentice are different.
Tumblr media
Mark takes your hand, slowly walking you to the couch.
"Sit down," he said, his voice shaky and nervous, "I need to tell you something."
"Mark... what is it?" You ask, feeling your stomach drop. Is he going to break up with you? Is he cheating on you? It's not often he's home on time. Sometimes, he's gone all night, coming home with his clothes messed up or a completely new outfit. Sweaty, panting, looking panicked. Never seeming to be honest about where he's been. You love him more than air. You would do anything for him. Sure, you had some issues, but what couple didn't? You always worked through them together.
He has a deadly serious look on his face. Did someone die? He continues to stare at you, then takes a deep breath and looks down.
"Do you remember how I told you about the Jigsaw murders? Everyone in my department dying..." he closes his eyes for a second. "I... not all of my time has been spent dealing with that." His voice is still shaking. He holds your hands, facing you, looking into your eyes.
"Mark, what is it? Spit it out." You almost don't want to hear his response.
"I haven't been being completely honest with you. I'm more involved with John Kramer than I've been leading on. I'm..." he takes a deep breath. "I work with him. For him. I am an accomplice to Jigsaw... and... I'm a... I'm a survivor. He tested me because... I was... I am the one responsible for the death of my sister." He squeezes your hands, crying.
You just stare at him, in shock.
"I'm so sorry y/n... I'm so sorry for not being honest with you..."
You continue to stare, contemplating what you want to say. You expected a lot of things, but this was the last thing you expected to hear.
After what seems like forever, you manage to squeak out, "What kind of trap were you in?"
He sighs and looks down, pulling one of his hands away and holding up his arm. You'd asked him in the past why his hand and forearm were covered in scars, but he would always change the subject.
"I had to... reach into a tube lined with broken glass to retrieve a key before... before the wire wrapped around my neck tightened... it would have cut my head off..." he whispered, tears still falling from his cheeks. "But I did it... I survived... there was so much blood. There was so much pain. But I lived."
"So, he tested you because Seth Baxter killed your sister? Shouldn't Seth have been the one tested?"
He said nothing.
"Because SETH BAXTER killed your sister.... right?" You repeated, louder and slower, dreading his response. He didn't. You know he didn't. Mark wouldn't...
"I need to show you something. We need to go... to the warehouse... John's warehouse," he says, collecting himself. He wipes his face with his hands. "I need to show you... what I did."
"What? Seth didn't kill her? Did John put her in a trap? Did he make you put her in a trap?"
"No, no. Just let me show you. It will make sense. I promise."
"I'm sorry, this is just... so much, right now... I dont... why didn't you tell me...?"
He sighs. "Because I was scared of how you would react. I love you. I would never hurt you. I told you now because... because I don't want to lose you. I am risking my life telling you, but..." he grabs your hands again and looks at you, "it's worth it. I don't want to keep secrets from each other. I want to tell you everything. Please, just let me show you the warehouse."
"The warehouse... where all the traps are..." You sit and think for a second. "What if John is there?"
"He won't be. I promise. Just, please, come with me... trust me..."
Despite everything, you feel safe with him. Finally, you nod and stand up.
Outside, it's cold and windy. The sun is setting, and you can see black storm clouds slowly rolling in. His hands are shaking as he starts the car and starts driving. The drive is filled with silence as you process everything. The closer you get, the more scared you are. You don't know what he has planned, but you try not to think the worst. The sky is dark now, and fat rain drops begin to fall. After a half hour, you pull up to an abandoned warehouse.
"This is it. Are you ready?" He asks.
"Yes. Show me, Mark."
He unlocks the door of the warehouse and leads you inside. The air is cold and damp, a faint sound of dripping water coming from somewhere. The strong smell of dust, metal, and rust floods your nostrils. He flicks on a light, and the whole warehouse is flooded with a white light so bright you have to squint your eyes. You gasp sharply as you look around, your eyes adjusting to the blinding light. You see all the contraptions, sharp objects, metal structures, and scraps. Old, used traps.
You want to turn and run away. Your legs feel weak. But you swallow the lump in your throat and look at Mark. He holds out his hand. Slowly, you take it, your arm shaking. He leads you to a small, dimly lit room in the back. In the room is nothing but a work table with a TV and VCR sitting on it, and a shelf with various tapes and tape recorders.
"I know you might think I'm evil, dangerous, crazy," he says slowly, "but... but I need to show you who I am. Including my past."
You look into his eyes, trying to find the crazy, dangerous, evil man he speaks of. You just can't see it. You can't believe it. His past is the past. Nobody can change their past, but they can change who they become from it.
"Okay, Mark. I trust you. I love you," you say finally.
You breathe a sigh of relief as he shuts the door behind him. At least he isn't leaving you alone. From the shelf behind him, he retrieves a video tape. You can see his hand shaking as he holds it out to you.
"This will show you... everything... this is the real me," his shaky voice cracks as you take the tape from his hand and slide it into the player.
Your heart races as you hit play.

so let’s say hypothetically (not really) all the apprentices are autistic (they are) headcanon them
rubs my hands together like a little fly
to start, I think they all have a strong sense of justice. I mean, Mark’s whole motive for setting up Seth’s inescapable saw trap and subsequently becoming an apprentice was literally getting justice for his sister’s death when he saw the system wouldn’t do anything about it. Amanda was a victim of systemic injustice via Eric framing her and turning her into a junkie, and she enacts her own justice on him and others as an apprentice. I feel like this could also be why the apprentices are so swayed into John’s ideology; it’s a solid structure and a clear routine and it follows through on their own senses of justice and morality.
Gordon’s a low-empathy autistic for sure. Kramer makes it a point that he coldly breaks the most emotionally destroying news of inoperability or death to his patients/their families, and he remains collected throughout the beginning of the bathroom trap with open annoyance at Adam for panicking instead of acting the way he thinks is better, with astute rationale. He’s also unable to really care about the situation until it becomes personal and his wife and daughter are revealed to have been threatened as well.
There’s also his issues with lying, and the fact that he holds other people to a standard he exempts himself from because of personal justification/inability to empathize. He accuses Adam of being a liar despite literally lying to his wife, and furthermore says adam is a terrible liar despite telling Alison the half-truth at best.

A fan of Batman, a lover of men's fashion and a good watch, the story of Pedro Pascal is one of those rare in Hollywood. The truth is that, at 43 years old, the actor of Chilean origin is one of the most sought after at the moment. For example, his agenda is full of events and releases between now and the end of 2019 (the Wonder Woman sequel among them), and, of course, his recent association with Cartier.
When he was about to turn 40, Pedro Pascal decided to help a theatre student who was rehearsing for an audition, as the Chilean told host Seth Meyers on The Late Night Show. It was about a character named Oberyn Martell, who would be part of the fourth season of one of the most successful television series of all time: Game of Thrones. Without hesitation, Pascal also decided to appear at the casting because “I was a big fan. I read the script and it was amazing. Oberyn was about 30 years old, had eight daughters, was a womanizer. It was perfect for me!" he said on that occasion.
What he never saw coming is that not only would he keep the role, but from that moment on his discreet career would take a 180-degree turn, putting him in the spotlight and establishing him as one of the darling faces of Hollywood.
“It's very rare that you get the opportunity to play a character as powerful as mine in the series, a role that even the writers themselves love. Seven episodes were enough for my career to change completely,” he told us exclusively.
London was the perfect setting for us to meet the actor. That accessibility and charisma that radiates on screen, as well as on red carpets and galas, takes him beyond the spotlight, into his daily life. This makes him a peculiar guy and completely distinguishes him from many of his colleagues, who do not hesitate to climb onto the throne of divas.
Although perhaps this attitude is due to the fact that getting to where he is today was not an easy thing. His may seem like a story similar to that of many immigrants, and it was, at least in the beginning. During the first years of the Chilean military dictatorship, in 1976, his family went into exile in Denmark. A year later, his father received a job offer in the United States and so they arrived in North America. “I can tell you that being born in Chile helped me be who I am now. Having the perspective of another culture has always been something very special to me,” he says.
He grew from a child to a teenager as he moved between Texas and California. That was where he forged his childhood and personality, studying in public schools and waiting for the weekends to go with his father to San Antonio Spurs games and concerts, such as The Police. It was also thanks to his father that he discovered his greatest passion, cinema.
“He was an inveterate movie buff. One of the first movies I saw on the big screen was Superman. I remember going to the bathroom and when I came back I went into a different room. In the end, my parents found me asleep during the credits of Kramer vs. Kramer. My sister had to tell me what had happened in the superhero film and I did the same with the story of Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep,” he recalls with a laugh.
“Since we're talking about the histrionic section, which actor do you admire the most?” I ask him, and without hesitation, Pascal responds that he doesn't have one person he admires the most, “but I do have a list of people whose work I find phenomenal. I generally fall in love with interpretations. One of them is Philip Seymour Hoffman, one of the best of my generation and who was even like a father to a large community of my theatre friends in New York. Losing him was painful. Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz are the most talented couple on the planet.”
Pedro Pascal's story becomes different when he begins to explore the world of acting. In the 90s, his family decided to return to Chile, but he chose to pursue his dream and enrol to study drama at the Orange County High School of the Arts and the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. When he took flight to try his luck in entertainment in more than one variant, he was a waiter in the Big Apple, in addition to scoring a job as an exotic dancer in Madrid, as he declared to an Iberian television space...
But that is only anecdotal, for bringing down from the cloud (back down to earth) those who believe that everything is easy in a great race. His film resume began to include series titles such as The Good Wife, Homeland and Graceland, until the great HBO production Game of Thrones came into his hands. We all know the rest.
Given the immensity of a shoot like this, we cannot miss the opportunity to question what has been the most demanding project to date. The answer surprises us: “Each job has its rigor, but Narcos was very particular because it was filmed on location and not on an air-conditioned set. That is why the series is great, because the character of the Colombian landscape, its people and its places cannot be replicated,” he reveals.
There is no doubt that his big break, in terms of global recognition, came with the Pablo Escobar story according to Netflix. Agent Peña made Pascal what is known as “a popular actor” of those that fans imitate and desire. But to his resume it is also necessary to add Agent Marcus Pike in The Mentalist, as well as the films The Great Wall (2016), where he shared credits with Matt Damon and Willem Dafoe, and Kingsman: The Golden Circle, one of the films which was highest grossing of 2017.
Continuing with his career, last July he released The Equalizer 2, where he appears alongside Denzel Washington. His character is a former member of the army and part of the special operations team, which required him to train with an FBI officer and sniper.
But let's stop talking about the past and focus on the future, which looks quite promising for Pedro: Triple Frontier, a new film for Netflix (named after the border between Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina) is one of the projects that brings under the arm and in which actors of the calibre of Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam and Garrett Hedlund also participate; and, of course, we will also see him in the highly anticipated Wonder Woman 1984. Pascal had already worked before, on a project that never reached the production phase, with director Patty Jenkins. That's why they called him to be part of the cast. “I can't tell you much about it, only that it will be spectacular. “That's all!” he reveals with a laugh. The film, which promises to be a blockbuster at the box office, is scheduled to be released in the winter of 2019.
“Since we are wandering in the field of comics, who is your favourite superhero?” I ask. “Batman! He's a temperamental bastard who doesn't follow the rules and who's also a millionaire," he replies. The Chilean also confesses to us that, in real life, his sister is his favourite heroine because "I wouldn't be where I am now if it weren't for her."
Thanks to this arduous schedule, there will be many red carpets that the actor will walk on between now and the end of next year. And that brings us to another chapter that he has had to write and that has to do with fashion. Pedro Pascal is one of the most scrutinized influencers today, he is one of those who are aware of the guidelines and follow them, but always with a personal note. There is also his presence in campaigns for brands in the luxury industry, such as now that he was signed by Cartier as their ambassador for one of their most precious pieces: the Santos watch.
“I am passionate about men's fashion. I have too many other vices for fashion to be one too (laughs), but it is a section that I deeply admire since it gives me the opportunity to express myself through it,” he clarifies. “I couldn't pass up the opportunity to represent a brand as beloved and elegant as Cartier, that's why I decided to accept this collaboration,” he continues.
But what are the elements that Santos and Pedro Pascal have in common? Without a hint of a doubt, the actor states that he would like to believe that it is as strong and elegant as said piece. “Watches are very symbolic and have different meanings for everyone. I like the individuality of wearing one. Maybe for someone it is the means to check the time, but for another it reminds them of that special person who gave it to them. It can express simplicity and extravagance, be barely noticeable or draw all the attention,” he shares. When talking about the basics of his closet, he says he is happy with an old pair of jeans and a T-shirt “that feels like pyjamas,” because he has learned from his characters that comfort is something basic.
Thanks to his origin, history and the way he conducts himself today, Pedro Pascal is a particular type, one of those that is rarely seen in the Mecca of Cinema.
______________
