TAG GAME: EIGHT SHOWS TO GET TO KNOW ME

Going in order of oldest to newest. And I'm only including shows that have a complete run, so there's that. (that's not a rule, I just did that for me)

MASH

I don't always love a sitcom, but watching MASH was a family activity. Growing up we had one TV, it was before the internet and home computers, so we watched what Dad chose usually (more on that later). MASH was a lot of things, but mostly it taught me about being yourself in a group, that it was okay to be whatever you were and that you could make a family anywhere.

The Rockford Files

Jim Rockford, being witty and sarcastic but also a loving son and good friend, driving fast and solving cases as an ex-con Korean War vet in 1970s LA. What's not to love about all that? Dad really had an iron grip on the TV guide back in those days and for a kid some of the plots didn't make sense, but I have rewatched the whole series multiple times and I'm here to tell you, a lot of it holds up. What does it say about me? I guess it says that I really like car chases and easily solved mysteries wrapped up in some wide lapels. But also I guess that James Garner as Rockford is a blueprint for the kind of hero I enjoy (flawed but ulitmately kind and very loyal).

Twin Peaks

This is becoming about my Dad here, but this is another show that we both loved. Turns out, my Dad likes the weird stuff, too. This is the last show that we watched together regularly before I moved out. Narratively who knows wtf happens in any David Lynch joint, but that's not really the point to me. I love the absurd, dark, haunting elements it makes me think about. Sometimes it's incomprehensible and that's okay. Just like life.

Justified

The show that teaches you that dialogue makes the character. Boyd Crowder will forever be one of my favorite characters solely because of his dialogue (and Walton Goggins's delivery). Every character on this show has a distinct way of speaking and behaving and it is really one of the most enjoyable shows ever just for that reason. I have never dug coal, but I feel like I have after spending time with these characters. I guess this one says that I like realism sometimes? Also, a flawed but ultimately kind and loyal hero (Raylan Givens, meet Jim Rockford).

Orphan Black

I could go on for days about what this show means, but others have already done that better than I could, so I'll just say this: we all contain multitudes. Also, Tatiana Maslany should have won every acting award ever during her time on this show. Another show that made me think about how being yourself is really complicated sometimes and we don't always figure it out alone (found family, etc, etc).

Parks and Rec

A workplace comedy? On my list? Yes, and it's this one. Always makes me laugh and I see a bit of how I act with coworkers in a lot of the characters (not Leslie usually, but Ron frequently). Gently sending up living in the Midwest while not making fun of it, mostly. Lost count of how many times I've watched this one.

Ripper Street

A flawed yet ultimately kind and loyal hero, crime solving, my favorite era of history, some of the best dialogue on any TV show, interesting and twisty plots, one of my all-time favorite actors, incredible attention to detail, and a very satisfying ending not to mention one of the nicest, kindest, and welcoming fandoms. Did I mention found family and workplace comedy? That's there too. (Edmund Reid, Raylan Givens, and Jim Rockford walk into a bar...wait, I'm only one person, get in line boys) One of my desert island shows, my go-to in times of stress, the thing I always recommend to people looking for something good (so long as they can stomach blood, that is).

Salut! I'm Taylor Arthur, a journalism major, a college senior, and a dabbler in the captivating realm of photo editing and photojournalism in the sun-filled city of Los Angeles. It's been quite the rollercoaster since landing an amazing opportunity at the esteemed Los Angeles Times in 2017.

Let me take you back to where it all began, in the days of my trusty Barbie Polaroid, a gift from my sweet grandmother, Sue. Oh, the memories I captured with that plastic gem! From the grainy snow-static on our vintage TV, to silly selfies alongside my partner-in-crime, my wonderful mom Denise, I was a true shutterbug at heart.

Nowadays, my photography revolves around capturing the essence of important themes around women's issues, society, and the vibrant tapestry of life on the streets of LA. In fact, I was honored to be recognized as the Press Photographers Association Of Greater Los Angeles Student Photojournalist of the year award in 2017. It was a humbling experience that fueled my passion even more.

As a photo editor, I have the opportunity to collaborate with the entertainment team, embarking on exciting adventures and covering glamorous events such as the Academy Awards. But that's not all! I also get to work with the Features team, crafting captivating stories that entertain not just the locals of Los Angeles, but readers from afar as well.

Beyond my camera and the furor of editing, you might find me struggling comically to master the intricacies of the French language. Oh, the dreams of launching my photography career in the artistic haven of Paris! A life filled with croissants and creative inspiration. And when I need a break from it all, I love embarking on leisurely hikes accompanied by the ever-faithful Griffin, my loyal Golden Retriever companion. He wags his tail with endless enthusiasm, ready to explore the world together.

It's the first Flipper Friday of the year, and what better way to celebrate than with the TWIPY-nominated homebrew Z-Pin Poker (working title)?

Built from scratch and in a cabinet formerly known as Whirlwind, Poker features a ton of smooth shots and innovative features, including a ball popper outlane save and a lower-lower flipper.

The rules were meticulously coded to mimic 7-card stud poker, with players able to use skill shots to affect their bid before building their hand via drop targets. Winning a hand adds to their "cash," while losing debits them accordingly -- this acts as an end-of-game bonus which can, with enough of a debt, lead to a negative score.

"Cheats" allow the player to undo a card, though these are limited in number and also power the magnasave and the poppersave, encouraging judicious use.

Winning with a straight, flush, or full house qualifies those respective multiballs, which subsequently lead to the Royal Flush wizard mode. (You cannot auto-qualify the wizard mode by accidentally getting a royal flush in a random hand. Ask me how I know.)

The game is designed to reward skillful play, with the ability to call your skill shot from several options and a mystery at the uppermost flipper that determines your award by which of three targets you hit down. That said, it is quite possible to enjoy the game and get a good score by ignoring the poker aspect, which makes the game novice-friendly despite the strategy-heavy ruleset. There are also difficulty levels that can be selected at the beginning of the game, if desired.

The game features callouts from Ron Hallett of @slamtiltpodcast and Silverball Chronicles fame. Ron's voice will guide you to choose your mystery widely, inform you which multiball you've started, and celebrate a completed skill shot.

The game itself was painstakingly developed by @zacaj. No amount of shutterbugging on my part could ever accurately document the amount of thought and care put into this.

It's been amazing watching this come together from a cascade of concepts to whitewood to a fairly polished, showable machine.

Yvette Heiser-Taking Prints at academy events – Where common sense comes into play

The preface of the General Data Protection Regulation( GDPR) has touched off a significant shift in people's perception of data protection, and organizations across all types of sectors are contending with different challenges in terms of icing they're balancing their interests with the rights of individuality around their particular data.

Yvette Heiser an expert photographer shares his views on academic event photography .The DPC frequently receives queries from seminaries, parents, and indeed shutterbugs about taking photos at academy events. These events range from musicals and football matches, right up to sports days, holy rapprochement, and award observances. Common questions postdate similar as " Do you need the concurrence of a child's guardian before you can take a print of a child? ", " Do you need concurrence for each separate academy event? ", " Can seminaries ban parents from taking prints at academy events? ", and " Can people take prints of other people's children without the guardian's authorization " The expression " Because of GDPR " is also trending of late, and this environment appears to be no different when we hear effects similar as seminaries saying " We can publish a print of a pupil but we can't name them because of GDPR " or parents saying " I can't take a print of my child in the play because of GDPR ", pressing the real sense of confusion girding this issue.

Back to basics

Before we claw into the academy- and child-specific environment, let's go back to basics for a moment. As Commissioner for Data Protection Helen Dixon stated in a recent interview with the Irish Independent, there's nothing under the GDPR proscribing people from taking prints in a public place. Handed you're not draining anyone, taking photos of people in public is generally allowed. Still, whether you can publish a snap to broad- grounded follower ship is a different question. In other words, taking a print in public is generally fine; it's what you do with that print that can potentially come to a data protection issue.

Family and musketeers taking prints at academy events

Academy plays, rugby matches, Christmas hymn musicales – all important mileposts that parents, family, and musketeers understandably want to record on camera. But questions similar as “Is it OK if you capture the image of another child while snapping film-land of your own? " face time and time again, leaving parents, and indeed seminaries, at a bit of a loss as to what to do. A lot of the time, families taking prints at this kind of event are simply doing so for reminiscence's sake and they don't intend to post or publish the prints anywhere. This type of exertion falls under the so-called " manage impunity " under the GDPR, which provides that the GDPR doesn't apply when a person processes particular data( for illustration, a snap of someone) in the course of a purely particular or manage exertion ,e.g. with no connection to a professional, business, functionary or marketable exertion.

That being said, the ubiquitous nature of social media means that numerous prints like these will inescapably wind up on some proud parent's Instagram account. How Aziz Ansari is redefining South Asians on American TV

He's clever and amusing, and he's also a Golden Globe winner. Meet Aziz Ansari, an actor of Indian descent and an influencer who has made a name for himself in Hollywood. With whatever project he chooses, whether it's Master of None or Saturday Night Live, Ansari has been busy establishing a discussion against racism and demolishing preconceptions around South Asians.

When Aziz Ansari began his career as a stand-up comedian in local bars, he had no idea that he would one day become the face of change on American television. The Emmy winner, who is on Forbes' list of highest-paid comedians, is showcasing diversity in the best possible light. This is the story of a Global Indian who made history as the first South Asian actor to win an Emmy and a Golden Globe.

Love for comedy

Ansari was born in America to Tamil immigrant parents and raised in South Carolina by a gastroenterologist father and a gynecologist mother. He was immersed in the performing arts from an early age and began attending dance courses as a child. Ansari excelled in extracurricular activities while attending the South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics, a public boarding school for outstanding kids. Ansari discovered stand-up comedy at New York University, where he was a major admirer of Chris Rock, and began doing open mics at local bars. While he went to classes in the mornings, he spent his weekends handing out flyers to tourists in Times Square, encouraging them to come to his events.

His stand-up earned him a free late-night engagement at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in the mid-2000s, which was a hotbed for emerging alternative comedians. It was here that Ansari met his future partners Rob Huebel and Paul Scheer. To make ends meet, Ansari worked a day job at an internet marketing company while channeling his talent into his show. The trio developed their debut series, Shutterbugs, with Huebel and Scheer as partners. By this time, Ansari had begun to get noticed, and in 2005, Rolling Stone included him on its list of "Hot Standup" comedians. His first TV debut on ESPN Classic's Cheap Seats and then a memorable cameo in HBO's Flight of the Conchords worked in his favor, and a year later, when Ansari won the Jury Award for Best Standup at HBO's US Comedy Arts Festival, everything started to fall into place.

But it was Ansari's role as one of the main characters on Parks and Recreation that proved to be a game-changer for him – he starred in the seven-season program as one of the main characters. His performance drew critical acclaim and won him the top spot on the list of TV MVPs. Ansari split his time between television, Hollywood, and stand-up comedy tours for the following four years.

Racism in entertainment

Despite being a well-known figure on television and in films, Ansari has had to deal with racism in the entertainment industry. "Even though I've sold out Madison Square Garden as a standup comedian and have appeared in several films and TV series, when my phone rings, the roles I'm offered are often defined by ethnicity and often require accents," he wrote in a New York Times OpEd about the lack of diversity in the entertainment industry.

The show that catapulted Ansari to fame

Ansari's professional trajectory was ready to change in 2015, with another opportunity set to vault him into the league of the elite in the entertainment industry. Ansari put his wit and humor to paper once more with Netflix's Master of None, a program that the New York Times praised as "the year's best comedy straight out of the gate." Ansari was praised for busting stereotypes about Asian men and showcasing diversity for two seasons, purposefully using the platform to give voice to problems like racism, sexuality, feminism, and appropriation. With $9.5 million in earnings, Ansari made his debut on Forbes' list of Highest-Paid Comedians in the same year.

Because of the show's enduring success, even award shows couldn't ignore it, and Ansari was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actor – Television Series Musical or Comedy. Ansari made history when he became the first Indian origin South Asian to win an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series the following year. Ansari broke the glass ceiling once more two years later when he became the first Asian-American actor to win a Golden Globe for acting on television.

Atsumu clicked his phone off when he saw the time, sliding it easily into the inner pocket of his blazer. His keys jingled as he twirled them idly around his finger. He was waiting for you to finish getting ready for the sports award ceremony that he was dragging you to-although it seemed to be the opposite way around earlier. You unconsciously smiled to yourself as you remembered having to poke and pester him until he dragged his body off of yours with a huff and began to get ready. It was wholesome and made one too many butterflies flutter in your tummy, considering how long you’d been together.

You’re snapped out of your daydream by the sound of him calling for you.

"Babe? I'm gonna warm the car up!" His voice was sweet as it travelled up the stairs of your home. You called back just as sweetly as you did some final checks in the mirror. The clothing felt foreign on you, but not uncomfortable, making you realise that you brushed up quite well when you wanted to. Satisfied with your appearance, you grabbed your phone and keys before making your way to the door, flicking the lights off as you went. You scanned over the living room one last time before stepping out the door and locking up, making your way down the driveway. You couldn't help but admire him, the way the top button of his crisp white shirt was already unbuttoned and how the sleeves of his blazer hugged his biceps nicely. His hair was blowdried to perfection and sat in soft golden tufts on his head.

He noticed you, mouth parting slightly before throwing his hand up to stop you. The window of the sleek car lowered, as you stood in the middle of the driveway, confused.

"Did you forget something? I can go back..." You trail off as you see him angle his phone at you, tapping. It took you a moment to realise he was snapping pictures of you. A confused grin tugs on your lips as you cock your head in question.

"Just stay there, you look absolutely stunning babe!" He called out, still focused on his camera.

You couldn't stifle your giggles any longer, striking a couple of playful poses that definitely didn't match the formality of your dressy attire.

He must've taken a dozen pictures a second, not wanting to miss anything from the moment; his soulmate feeling such joy in front of their shared home, looking like the personification of elegance. It made his mind fuzzy and heart warm as he lowered his phone.

"Can I get in now? It’s kinda cold, Tsum." You asked, still breathless from your giggles. He nodded dazedly, leaning over to open the passenger door for you.

Paying no mind to his stare, you buckled yourself in.

"You're staring, Tsum~" You sang as you turned to face him, an amused glint in your eyes. He scrunched his nose at you before pecking your lips.

"Did I not already mention that you look absolutely breathtaking, my love?" It was his turn to be amused, narrowly avoiding the swat of your hand as you whined at his cheesiness. The flustered smile on your face was enough to send him to cloud nine, but he knew he'd much rather stay where he was. His fingertips danced along your jawline, angling your face so his lips could press against your forehead. Your eyes fluttered shut in response; your mind was a haze of emotions, but warmth and sweet, sweet tenderness stood out from them all.

Before you can get started making money from your iPhone or Android photos, you’ll need some equipment, software and basic know-how. You don’t need to be an expert — just cover these basics and you’ll be ready to get started.

Smartphone with a high-quality camera: With technology constantly advancing, a good smartphone camera is essential if you want your images to sell. Even if your images are properly framed and well-lit, they’ll be tough to sell if they’re shot with an outdated lens or in low resolution. Photo editing software: You can do basic edits on your phone, but if you’re optimizing photos for print (think wall art and merch), you’re better off editing your images on a computer. Foap’s marketing is not as strong as some other big name stock image companies and apps. This has resulted in some users complaining about a lot of work for minimal pay. However, if you’re a new photographer looking to develop your skills and gain exposure, Foap can be a solid option.

#3. Snapwire

Snapwire has a fairly generous payout structure: you keep up to 100% on client requests and challenges, and you earn 50% on downloads from subscribers.

This app is much more based on client requests than others. Requesters can award points to photos that exemplify the look they’re going for. At the end of the contest, requesting companies buy the photos they want from the winner(s).

Photographers can “level up” with successful images and projects, gaining advantages with each level that helps them gain more exposure and sell more photos.

#4. AGORA Images

Based in Spain, the AGORA app is more like a social media platform than a stock photo website. They offer cash prizes for their weekly photo challenges, with winners determined by app users’ votes.

Payouts range from $1,000 to $25,000, along with the chance to be published in some of the leading newspapers and magazines around the world. Because they focus on a worldwide audience, competition is diverse but also steep.

AGORA is a great way to gain exposure. That said, while you may get lucky and win one of the contests, other apps may be a better fit if money is your primary goal.

Stock Photography Websites

When you see breathtaking landscapes and portraits with personality on stock photo websites, you may think they’re all shot by expert photographers with years of experience. But that’s not necessarily true. Many of these stock photography websites accept and sell images from shutterbugs of all types and experience levels.

#5. Adobe Stock

Formerly called Fotolia, Adobe Stock is woven into the Adobe suite of products. You can upload your photos directly from Lightroom or Bridge. If you’re new to tagging your photos, Adobe Stock’s AI will prompt you with relevant tags. Adobe stock pays 33% royalties to contributors via PayPal or Skrill.

#6. Shutterstock

Shutterstock is one of the most popular stock photo sites on the web. It offers a mobile app to help track sales, submit photos and get notifications of what customers want. Their payout structure is tiered, so the more lifetime earnings you have the greater the percentage of royalties you keep. Earnings top out at 30%.

#7. IStock By Getty Images

A great option for the experienced photographer, iStock by Getty Images requires you to get accepted to be a contributor. This is one of the most well-known stock photo websites, and while royalties start at only 15% (more for exclusive contributors), the high traffic makes it an option that’s well worth your time.

#8. 500XPrime

500X Prime offers high royalties for contributing photographers — 30% for non-exclusive and 60% with exclusive content. Each photo is reviewed prior to licensing for technical quality, originality, aesthetic value, and other requirements.Plus, their proprietary “Pulse” algorithm is designed to surface the submissions of new photographers so they can gain feedback and increase their exposure.

#9. Twenty20

Twenty20 is a part of the Envato ecosystem, which is an array of marketplaces for creative producers that offers everything from website templates to visual assets for use in video games.

Twenty20’s Subscriber Share is a more complicated payout structure than most, but it rewards photographers who have devoted, niche followings.

Their compensation structure is generous: contributors earn 34% to 42% royalties from on-demand photos and $0.30 to $0.35 from subscription files. You can also level up your pay grade based on your overall amount of downloads. The more downloads your photos get, the greater your royalties on all your photos.

#11. Dreamstime

Dreamstime has been selling photographers’ stock photos since 2000. With a worldwide audience, the site supports multiple currencies and languages. It doesn’t require prior approval or testing to upload, but it does vet images to meet standards of commercial and creative appeal. Payouts range from 25% royalties for newbies to 60% for exclusive contributors.

Photos On Merchandise

You can create additional value by turning your photos into items for sale — especially if you have graphic design skills to create fresh, new images. From t-shirts to coffee mugs to wall hangings, there are online markets for all sorts of widgets to sell with your decorative photos.

#12. Etsy

On Etsy, you can sell prints, canvases, framed photos or digital image files — it’s all up to you. Opening your shop on their website is easy and free, and listing each item costs only 20 cents. Etsy handles the transaction while you do all the printing, packaging and shipping.

#13. Merch By Amazon

You can turn your art into t-shirts with Merch by Amazon. Amazon takes care of the business side of t-shirt production (printing, shipping and handling, and payment). Plus, they produce t-shirts as they’re ordered, so you don’t pay anything upfront (and you’re not stuck with boxes of t-shirts you can’t sell cluttering up your garage). Royalties are $1 to $10 per shirt.

#14. MiPic

If you want to go a step beyond t-shirts, MiPic can turn your photos into leggings, swimsuits, towels and more. Open your own customized print store and earn up to 20% commission on the sale of your items. There are no setup fees, and MiPic takes care of all of the manufacturing, sales and distribution aspects of the business.

#15. Society6

Society6 is more than just an online marketplace for selling items with your photos on them; it’s also a community of artists to engage with and inspire you. The website is very artist-focused, which is why they offer 10% commission on referred sales in addition to the 10% you make on your own items.

#16. Redbubble

Redbubble gives you a lot more leeway on setting your own prices than other photo sites. Rather than the website setting the price, then paying you a commission, Redbubble sets the base price, then you choose the markup on your items for sale. They offer a wide range of products to display your images, from scarves to coasters to journals.
