Simon always wanted to put Baz first. Even before want was even a possibility, a part of him was always driven to do that.

His obsession with Baz is a big indicator of his feelings for him. Part of those feelings are a need to make sure Baz is an important part of his life.

When they're "enemies," Simon only knows how to interact with Baz in anger (the one emotion he's familiar with... romantic love, and perhaps love in general, alongside sexual desire are completely alien to him). If Simon isn't angry at Baz, if he's not picking fights with him, then "he has no way" to secure even an interaction with Baz. It's part of why is so difficult to even contemplate that Baz's life doesn't revolve around plotting against Simon, why he can't listen to Penny and let the idea go, and why he instantly changes his tune when Penny says Baz is his sworn enemy (instantly downplaying it, like it's not actually that serious, like Simon doesn't actually want to define his relationship with Baz as enemies for real, and if someone else says it, it might make it more true)

Simon doesn't know how to exist outside of roles and worldviews he has been told he should conform to for much of CO. He doesn't actually want Baz to be his enemy, but if Baz isn't plotting, then “he would have no reason” to be part of Simon’s story – he would merely be a background character, barely mentioned as a roommate who has no role in the story (and no place in Simon's life) and so Simon can't let that go. If he accepts Baz wasn’t plotting nearly as much as he says he is, that means Baz isn't thinking about him all that much. It means he doesn't have Baz's attention – he's not on Baz's mind as much Baz is on his (and I've noticed that, while I'm sure Simon's list of moments Baz pays him attention or pranks him or related is incomplete, it's not super long... Baz mentions Simon wouldn't let him breathe and when he does, he's still not leaving him alone, and Simon backing off is only momentarily. Meaning Baz didn't have to do much/plot much to get Simon's attention because he had it all the time).

Baz has been cast as the antagonist, so in order to have any place in the hero's life, he must plot. He must be antagonistic. And so the only way Simon knows how to prioritize Baz – because he wants Baz to be a priority in his life, because he's obsessed with him, because he's in love and so attracted it makes him shortcircuit – is to never shut up about Baz plotting... to the point it forces his best friend, who he spends most of his time with, to limit how much he can talk about Baz. Otherwise, they would rarely talk about anything else

Curses and Crushed Roses

“Hey I like you…I like you…I…like you. I think you’re great…I fancy you?” The words come out like a soft chant as he whispers them, the mirror is almost foggy with how determined he is to get them just perfect.

You push off the door frame, stepping further into the room. “Wow…I’m sure your reflection is flattered.”

He jumps, and smooths out his hair, trying to act as if nothing had happened. “Ahem. How long were you-“

You cut him off with a grin “Long enough.”

The embarrassed man turns back to the mirror, the tips of his ears glowing red “I was just…practicing. For a play.”

You cross your arms the smile never leaving your mouth “Uhuh, well then, good luck.” You turn to leave the room “oh and…I like you too. In the play of course.” You love teasing him, but you don’t realize how much of an impact your words have. Not until the surge of curses that escape his mouth when he thinks you’ve gone.

It’s a wonder that lips so soft can release such vile words. Wait…why are you thinking about his lips?

Carry On – Simon is the chosen one, and the worst one ever, according to his roommate at school, Baz. Simon’s girlfriend has dumped him, his wand is barely working, his mentor’s avoiding him and there’s a magic eating monster rampaging near the school. Baz, the resident vampire is surprisingly not at school, missing out on this chaos. Unbeknownst to Simon, Baz is hiding at home, hiding from his feelings for Simon.

Nimona – Ballister Blackheart was once a noble knight, but after being faced with prejudice from the institution, he becomes an anti-hero. Soon, a shapeshifter appears on his doorstep, Nimona, and offers to become his side-kick and help him in all his evil deeds against the institution. Ballister has a friend turned nemesis, Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin (who in the movie adaptation they are confirmed to be in a romantic relationship with each other) whom works for the institution and the evil director.

imagine u are a watford student in simon and baz’s year. you’re just trying to learn magic and shit. you’re vaguely aware of the rivalry bc these bitches make it everyone’s business. you don’t know the details. you just know they fucking hate each other and are super annoying about it. you can’t go two weeks without hearing about some new drama. this continues for seven years. it’s year eight. baz doesn’t show up. you’re relived. finally. you can focus on something other than the chosen one and his shitty roommate. then baz does show up. god fucking damnit. at least they’re not fighting as much. you go on christmas break. you’re finally able to focus on having a good time with your family instead of chosen one drama. simon doesn’t show back up after christmas. peace at last. baz finishes top of the class. no one is surprised. leavers ball. last hurrah before adult life. simon and baz show up together. they are boyfriends now. there is no escape. the future is meaningless but the snowbaz is now.
