Day 31: Wyndham; or, The Galactic Prometheus
i decided to base this final kinktober 2023 piece on a number of days i missed. this will not be everyone’s cup of tea so please, please read the prompts, tags, and warnings. darker than my usual offerings.
smut ♡ (day 31 ~ free space) day 21: hate sex ♡ day 23: dirty talk, begging, cnc ♡ day 26: choking ♡ day 29: creampie (tbh more of an "inspired by" than a strict adherence) 18+ only • Word Count: 13,512 Summary: a smutty  ode to a classic ♡ mary shelley’s frankenstein; or, the modern prometheus. au rocket essentially lives the creature's life; visits the high evolutionary’s bride on her wedding night per the novel. things go off the rails from there. no use of y/n & minimal editing. heyooo this is fucked, sorry. i swear i'm not as depressed as these last two offerings make me sound and tomorrow's florescence❀ post should prove that… WARNING for one-sided hate-sex; dubcon i think? not entirely sure how to flag this. i mean, reader is very into it and at least some level of explicit consent is given but there’s definitely an argument for coercion and like, very imbalanced power dynamics, with no safe word. plus the hate part. non-affectionate degradation and name-calling, unethical dom/sub vibes, choking, hair pulling, pussy slapping, spanking, overstimulation. rocket is mean. there’s a version of this with a darker ending but this one is… i don’t know. probably as happy/fluffy an ending as it possibly can be? there's implied aftercare? ADDITIONAL WARNINGS for references to childhood (nonsexual) abuse & grooming of reader, emotional abuse, gaslighting, vague references to suicidal ideations and planning, thoughts of death. no CSA.
based on day 31 (and 21, 23, 26, and 29) of @flightlessangelwings’ Kinktober 2023 Prompt List banner created by @the-purity-pen ♡♡♡

Something is terribly wrong.
It has been for years, if you’re being honest. You can’t even remember the way food tastes without the sick slickness of dread filling your mouth.
The fact that this new planet reminds you of home makes your ribs tighten around your heart, a calcium jawtrap for your lungs. The teeth punch through, and you’re drowning in your own blood. The planet is so close — but it’s not quite right, which just makes it all the more uncanny. Herbert had told you the sky would be as blue and clear as Terra’s, and the buildings all look like older versions of the ones you had left behind. But it’s been storming since you arrived: boiling clouds the color of bruises, and electric strikes like grasping, broken fingers. The air smells all wrong — like bad days near the pig-slaughtering factory you'd lived down the street from as a child. All day, your hands have been frigid, fingers shivering. Someone is watching me, you think. Countless times, you’d thought you’d felt a breath on your neck and whirled around, only to realize that once again, you’re completely alone.
You haven’t seen anyone, anywhere.
Anyone except for Vim and Theel, that is. They stalk soundlessly beside you, cold and cloying, guiding you through the icy Pyramid that will be your new home. You try not to take your discomfort out on them, but they’re making it worse: staring soullessly with their dead eyes, watching you like you’re an insect to take apart, leg by leg. A set of butterfly wings, to be descaled.
Then they titter and flatter you, and the sick feeling in your stomach rises.
The storm continues to infect the sky like black rot, and Vim and Theel bow and scrape in a way that makes you feel like an idiot, like you’re an innocent walking willingly to a sacrificial altar, lured by promises of flowers or a few friendly words.
But you’re not walking willingly anymore, are you? You just don’t have anywhere else to go. Herbert has made sure of that.

24 (What other character from another fandom of yours that reminds you of them?) for Roxy
Thanks for copying the question here buddy I appreciate that a lot (I can't load the post on my phone or my own blogs at all still)
Uhhhh honestly, Roxy's pretty different to a lot of my usual other blorbos. I could compare her to Labrys from Persona 4 Arena in a sense that they're both robots with horrible trauma that have been forced to do things they wouldn't dream of doing otherwise, but that doesn't feel like a great comparison ngl
I could compare her to a lot of blorbos though. Like Bracken from Ni No Kuni 2, Unit #024 and Labrys from Persona 4 Arena, for being chronically underutilized by the devs. Maybe PURL from Kuni 2 but PURL feels more... Like an opposite to Mimic? The first attempt at sentient AI in that world, determined to answer the question of what colour is the sky for herself... Only knows a few things, a child her closest friend, and accidentally takes over the wholeass factory in her attempts to see the sky again after like a decade of being deactivated. And also because the devs couldn't think of anything interesting for a new Broadleaf area so they wanted to make sure you did the wholeass factory again for some fucking reason.
Ohhh then again, I was watching those clips last night and Toothless and Hiccup made me think of Roxy and Cassie in an AU kind of way. Mostly because of the dogisms I like to give Roxy and because of several AUs that are more in line with How to Train Your D/ragon... (Put a slash in it to make extra sure I don't end up in any searches for that) So maybe Toothless? Maybe not?
Honestly I don't think I've ever liked a character that has shown much interest in their appearance before. Maybe Erza from Fairy T/ail? Looks cool and could kill you but has zero braincells whatsoever? Also very traumatised? Koromaru from P3 cause his persona is Cerberus and Roxy is the Cerberus to Mimic? And I can see her running around with a knife in her teeth? I dunno man that's a tough question
Ohhh there was also Blaze from the Sonic games! Not because of Roxy specifically, but because in coming up with a horse for her, many of the ideas for it was giving my Blaze vibes lmao. She has a horse in the Olympic games and it's pure white with light purple tack and possibly eyes I don't remember so yeah that kept popping to mind in coming up with a horse nsjsdj
And I suppose my OC Zephyr somewhat reminds me of her. That whole universe I made was started when I got so deep into a Pupcakes/Roxica Pirates AU that I decided to make it a whole thing and Zephyr is who Roxy in the story became. I like Zephyr she's very cool and has become very distinct from Roxy, but her roots are still there, ya know? I'll always remember where she started.
Jsisjsi I could associate Roxy with Disney's Bolt too just cause he's a superhero dog and a funny lil guy. And for some reason one of the OST tracks for the DS game will plague my mind for the rest of my days. Even though I'm thinking of every track but that one right now. It's the one for Bolt's part of the... Something Temple level. Bolivia? Belize??? I think it has a B in it... But anyway yeah Superdog! Hooray!
P03 from Inscryption too but mostly because it's tech themed, and I had that old AU where I drew her as the Scrybe of Technology. Inscryption is incredible btw I fucking love it. I suck at it apparently though. I got to Act 2 and played a fucking beefed up Ouroborus in the first stage of P03's fight like "oh I've got this fucker now!!" No I did not. I absolutely did that. Stoatal misplay. Could not have fucked that up more lmao anyone that's played or seen this game will know exactly what ended up happening there nsjdjdi I FORGOT okay?? I forgot!!!
BACK ON TOPIC yeah Roxy's a pretty different character to the norm for me. Genuinely can't think of anyone that might be similar to her enough for them to remind me of her if I saw them again. Maybe if I went back and watched the old My Little Pony from the fucking 70s or whatever, but it would just be the standard stereotype of "all girls care lots about their appearance and gasp in horror if you dirty a pretty dress" probably. You know the one. I do my best not to humour that shit in my own Roxy interpretation but it's hard to forget that's absolutely where her written personality stems from :/
#pop rox answers#long post#sorry i kept going off on one I've just had my meds and it's ramble forever time#yeah i fucking. hate that stereotype so much#like with an actual burning passion. maked my skin crawl.#i was a little autistic girl once and i hated it then#fucking. wisteria or however you spell her name from one of the old mlp movies did it best#it was the trope of a princess has to be pretty and a princess has to be prim and proper and a certain way#and she just fucked off to roll around in the mud and made everyone else a princess at the parade too because FUCK you lmao#i remember that film remarkably well lmao#the other one i remember was rarity from another film or at least i think that was her name. early 2000s pink unicorn#from the one where the colours are disappearing from the world. she was a lil shit i could relate lmao#okay i lied i remember all the ones i saw this shit was my thing as a lil kid lmao i remember when the schmooze was ourple#and made by three witches in a castle over a cliff and only the flutter ponies could stop it and there was this random girl for some reason#meghan and two kids i never cared for. north star i miss you. you did nothing i just thought you were neat#fucking BURGER SURPRISE!!! little shit!!!! literally saved the day by being an ass!!!#they had fun names ngl#anyway. i don't remember what i was talking about imma just post and hope for the best sorry or whatever#my blog my rules you're gonna suffer my meds with me hand in catdrugdeal hand

U.S. Navy hires MQ-9 Reapers for the U.S. Marine Corps
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 08/24/2022 - 3:00 PM in Military, UAV - UAV
The U.S. Navy recently granted a $135.8 million contract to General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) for eight MQ-9A Extended Range (ER) unmanned aircraft systems that are scheduled for delivery to the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) at the end of 2023.
The MQ-9A ER will provide a large-scale and long-range intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capability for the USMC Expeditionary Force. It was designed to extend the aircraft's autonomy to more than 30 hours and equipped with avionics architecture with triple redundancy.
As part of the efforts of the Marine Corps Force Design 2030, the Marines plan to transition from Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron (VMU) 3 located in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, to MQ-9A operations. The VMU-3 will use the MQ-9A ERs to support the training of the Marines' Coastal Regiment.
The UAS Multi-Mission Tactical (PMA-266) program office, which manages the Marines MQ-9 program, used the U.S. Air Force Agile Reaper Enterprise Solution (ARES) to grant the contract. ARES is a five-year indefinite delivery/undefined quantity (ID/IQ) agreement.
"Our team ensured the development and fielding of a new combat capacity, fundamental to the vision of the Marine Corps Force Design (FD) 2030, at exceptional speed," said Captain Dennis Monagle, PMA-266 program manager.
Since the beginning of the program in 2018, the PMA-266 has leveraged U.S. Air Force investments and hiring solutions to acquire the MQ-9, accelerating field time. By adapting and simplifying the typical acquisition strategy, the MQ-9 program began after Milestone C, eliminating three to five years of traditional acquisition efforts.
Tumblr media
"We are aligned with the USAF MQ-9 System Program Office (SPO), the National Guard Bureau, Marine Corps stakeholders, as well as our supplier teams, in order to develop and integrate as soon as possible," Monagle said.
The first two MQ-9 aircraft were delivered in 2019 to the Maritime Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (VMU) Squadron 1 and have since flown more than 15,000 hours of operational flight. The program continues to develop new and exclusive payloads and resources to meet the future requirements of FD 2030. These payloads include the Detect and Avoid System (DAAS), a Proliferated Low Earth Orbit (PLEO) satellite system, an air network extension payload (Sky Tower), and an electronic warfare payload.
The MQ-9A and associated payloads will provide marines with organic network extension and intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and direction (ISR-T) in support of advanced expeditionary operations, coastal operations in disputed environments and awareness of maritime dominance.

The Amnesiac : ep36
"Europeany"
Sunday
It has been 24 hours since we left the delightful Tillamook cheese factory, and after an uneventful night spent in Astoria (the town made famous by the movie Goonies) we find ourselves riding the gently twisting and exceedingly scenic roads of the Northern Cascades. Route 97 dead-ends at the intersection of Route 2, where we make a left turn and from there it’s only a few miles to Leavenworth. The sky is bright blue and we’re enjoying a beautiful day following the storm.
From the moment we round the bend at the edge of town it’s obvious that this is the Bavarian village we’ve been looking for. Leavenworth is a European themed village with wide variety of fairytale style architecture featuring German style “fachwerk” exposed beams, large overhangs and steeply pitched roofs. It’s hard to believe we’re still in America. If Snow White and her Seven Dwarves stopped traffic in the crosswalk, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least. There are hotels everywhere, each with their own Bavarian themed name. Icicle Village Resort, Der Ritterhof Inn, The Bavarian Lodge … you get the idea. We make a couple of passes along the main road until River points to one of the hotels. I can hear her yelling into my helmet “That’s the most Europeany!” Most Europeany? I haven’t seen that word in the adjective dictionary yet, but who cares? It’s in the middle of town so we’ll see if we can find lodging there.
Fortunately there are rooms available, they’re reasonably price, so we unload the panniers from the Ducati and get settled in. Greg LeMond once said of bicycling “It never gets easier you just get faster.” The same is essentially true of motorcycling. We’ve traveled well over 1000 miles in the past few days and by the time I collapse onto the bed in the hotel, I feel like a chain-gang inmate who has just been flogged for disobedience. We both struggle but succeed in kicking off our boots. River slumps into the chair and without a word we mutually agree to stay here and chill until our bodies acclimatize back to non-motorcycle normal.
River dozes off to sleep for about two seconds then snorts herself awake. We have a good laugh about it and that motivates us to begin the quest for dinner. With jeans and flip-flops on, we descend the stairs to the lobby. River asks the gal at the front desk for a dinner recommendation in the “most Enropeany” part of town and she points out the window. “Across the highway to Front Street. More food than y’all can shake a stick at, and it’s all pretty darn Europeany” she tells us.
River has my drawing, the one with her behind the Leica camera on one side and the Bavarian village on the other, rolled up and in hand. She wants to find the exact location where the drawing was made before the sun sets. Since Leavenworth is only a few city blocks long and a couple of city blocks deep, it should be a pretty doable task.
Front Street is indeed “Europeany.” It’s a cute little downtown area with touristy shops and plenty of germanic dining options. The idea of finding some good schnitzel, or better yet an authentic currywurst washed down with a Löwenbräu has my mouth absolutely watering. But first we are determined to find “the spot” depicted in my drawing. We walk the few blocks to the north end of the street, enjoying looking in the shop windows for souvenirs small enough to carry home on a motorcycle and perusing the menus of the eateries for something authentic. But we don’t immediately find the location from the picture so River pulls out the drawing to give it a closer examination. She decides that we’ll have better luck at the south end of Front Street so we turn around and walk all the way to the south end of town without finding the exact spot. But at the south end of town, when we turn back north again, we see it. There’s an intersection with the exact type of bierhaus architecture we’re looking for. We walk to the intersection and River holds up the drawing. From the middle of the intersection, it’s a perfect match.
I close my eyes and the crippling pain of the memory recall comes flooding back. River takes my hand to share her energy with me and the pain subsides. “I’m not here” I tell her. “I’m flying through space. Through the cosmos. Stars and planets are whizzing past the window of my spaceship. There’s a rainbow of galaxies and nebula, sometimes smashing against the window and exploding into colorful stardust. It’s the most bizarre thing, like I died and I’m riding to heaven on my Ducati.”
I open my eyes and return to the now. I’m no closer to solving this mystery. There’s a park bench in the greenbelt just across the street, so we sit there while the sun sets to understand what the hell we’re doing here.
“Okay River, let recap. I left home alone on my motorcycle heading for a nice relaxing Pacific Northwest motorcycle vacation and somehow ended up in Fern Canyon, and that is where your spirit first catches up to me. Then clearly I visited Paul Bunyan and you were on my mind there, and at Thor’s Well too. The barista in Tillamook claims to have seen you there, so your spiritual presence was becoming strong enough to manifest to multiple people at the same time. That led us here where my visions change from your bodily manifestation to a celestial manifestation, as I see the universe without form or time, just color and movement. If we follow that same path with the drawings, it only leaves one drawing left…”
“Me in the tulips.”
“Correct. So what does that mean?”
“I have no idea. Okay, let me suss this out for a minute. A few days ago we were having lunch at that weird little Indian casino in Klamath and I think that was the first moment when we realized that there’s a cosmic connection between us. The barista in Tillamook confirmed this and the cosmic vision you had just a minute ago confirms this. Which makes me think that maybe my spirit wasn’t following you here, maybe it was guiding you here!”
“But why?”
“That’s the real question isn’t it, but the only thing I can think is that the universe NEEDS us to be together for some reason.”
“Like The Terminator? We’ll make a baby and name him John Connor and our spawn will go on to save the world from artificial intelligence or something?”
“Ha! Maybe! Or maybe we’ll have a girl and she’ll be the first President of the United States or something.”
“Or maybe us just falling in love is good enough for the universe, and we’re here in the fairytale village to begin our fairytale love story?”
River is completely titillated by the prospect of our relationship being true love and leans in for a passionate and loving kiss. It’s a moment I’ll never forget. It’s the beginning of us acknowledging that from this day forward our two shall be one, and some day, our one will be three or four. I want badly to get on my knee to propose, but it would honestly just ruin the moment. The cosmic connection we’re feeling right now is far more powerful than any human construct called marriage could even begin to understand.

Musical Motifs in Kirby: Triple Deluxe
So I think Kirby music is the greatest video game music of all time. And the composers are especially good at working motifs into the soundtrack. Probably the most well known ones are Green Greens and King Dedede's theme (series-wide) and the Haltmann Works theme (thanks SiIvaGunner). But I just wanted to compare the usage of motifs in one of my favorite Kirby OSTs, Triple Deluxe. Here's what I found.
Motif 1: “Main Theme” - found in the following songs:
“Walking into a Flowery Coup!” - 1:03, 2:15; “Floral Fields” - 0:41; “Hypernova Inhale” - 0:26; “The Cave in the Sky” - 0:39; “Tilting the World” - 0:00; “Chasing Down the Midboss” - 0:00; “Jump Out! Boss Battle in the Front and Back” - 0:00, 0:38; “Kirby Fighters - Battle Start!” - 0:00; “Kirby Fighters - Final Battle Start!” - 0:00; “She Who Holds the Stars” - 1:24; “Moonstruck Blossom” - 0:00, 1:38; “The World to Win” - 0:40; “FLOWERED (Ending)” - 0:15, 1:09, 1:23 ; “One of the Miracles” - 0:54, 2:55, 3:08, 3:28
The most reoccurring motif in the OST, so I felt justified calling it the "Main Theme". Characterized by that three-note hit that appears in all of these, as well as two extended variations - a full riff (that appears most obviously as the opening to "Jump Out! Boss Battle in the Front and Back" and "Moonstruck Blossom", but is also quoted in "The Cave in the Sky", the "Kirby Fighters" themes, and "Chasing Down the Midboss"), and an extended melody that appears as the main theme of many songs.
Motif 2: “Conflict Theme” - found in the following songs:
“Jump Out! Boss Battle in the Front and Back” - 0:23; “She Who Holds the Stars” - 0:37; “Moonstruck Blossom” - 0:47
I was so sure this appeared in more songs, but this is it. Given that it only plays in two boss themes and while Sectonia is trying to destroy the planet, "Conflict Theme" seemed like a good name. Little variation in this.
Motif 3: “Dreamstalk Theme” - found in the following songs:
“Sun, Sky, Dreamstalk” - 0:00; “Walking into a Flowery Coup!” - 0:00, 0:33, 1:21; “Hypernova Inhale” - 0:38; “Chasing Down the Midboss” - 0:16; “Under the Sunshine” - 0:00; “Spring Smash Factory” - 0:00; “Majestic Flora” - 0:00; “Revenge of the Enemy” - 0:00; “She Who Holds the Stars” - 0:23, 1:16; “Moonstruck Blossom” - 1:13; “FLOWERED (Ending)” - 0:00, 0:38; “One of the Miracles” - 0:00, 1:32, 2:18, 3:04
AKA the secondary main theme. I called it the "Dreamstalk Theme" because it's the opening notes of the title theme "Sun, Sky, Dreamstalk", and given that the Dreamstalk is a main part of the plot, it seemed like a good name. This theme has two parts - a series of rising notes connected by pairs of sixteenth notes, and a secondary section of a 3-3-2 pattern of eighth notes that either descends, usually chromatically, or occasionally ascends.
Motif 4: “Hypernova Theme” - found in the following songs:
“Sun, Sky, Dreamstalk” - 0:40; “Walking into a Flowery Coup!” - 0:07; “Floral Fields” - 0:06; “Hypernova Inhale” - 0:03; “Taranza, Master of Puppetry” - 0:28; “Divine Beauty” - 0:02; “The World to Win” - 0:07; “One of the Miracles” - 0:40
Well, it's the Hypernova theme. Sounds pretty similar to the "Dreamstalk Theme", but different enough to be its own thing. Characterized by a I-II chord progression in the main bit and a bit of chromaticism (in major, a VIIb, and in minor, a IIb). "The World to Win" is a straight, but more intense, remix of this theme in its entirety - plus a quote from "Green Greens".
Motif 5 “Beautiful Prison/Reflected Laughter” - found in the following songs:
“Must Dash” - 0:00; “Reflected Laughter” - 0:00; “Beautiful Prison” - 0:00, 1:44; “Divine Beauty” - 0:30
A really bizarre motif that's actually two. "Reflected Laughter" is a straight remix of "Must Dash", but "Beautiful Prison" quotes the "Reflected Laughter" chorus at 1:44. And then "Divine Beauty" contains a straight remix of "Beautiful Prison". I see the connection between the last two songs (Queen Sectonia), but why is this a motif in the first place?
Mini-Motif 6: “The World to Win” - found in the following songs:
“The World to Win” - 0:00; “One of the Miracles - 2:03, 3:22
Not much of one, but given how extensively "One of the Miracles" quotes "The World to Win", I felt it deserved a mention.
Other notes:
- Taranza's leitmotif, found in "Walking into a Flowery Coup!" and "Taranza, Master of Puppetry", is just a 6/8 remix of Dedede's theme followed by a Green Greens quote.
- And speaking of which, many songs in this game quote Green Greens (obviously), most of which also use Motif 3 or 4 ("Revenge of the Enemy", "The World to Win", etc.), but also "Spinning Jungle".
- Speaking of "Spinning Jungle", almost anyone who's given it a listen knows that Star Dream's leitmotif from the next game is a STRAIGHT steal from this song. Why? According to the composer, it was totally unintentional, haha.
And that's it! If I'm crazy I might do this for another Kirby game (like Planet Robobot, yeeesh. SO much motif usage in that game). I just really like Kirby music, and motifs, so here you go.

The Colour Bath, Shinjuku Station in Tokyo

The Colour Bath, Shinjuku
With an estimated 3.7 million commuters daily, Tokyo’s Shinjuku Station, in Japan, is considered the busiest transportation hub in the world. As part of a revitalization project, East Japan Railway Company enlisted Moment Factory, with the support of Sony Music Solution Inc., to develop a flagship multimedia installation for the station’s busy East-West Passageway.
Connecting disparate ends of the station, the passageway serves as a crucial thoroughfare for many daily commuters. In anticipation of plans to open the ticketed passageway to the public, JR-East seized upon the opportunity to transform the corridor into a symbolic landmark and meeting place.
Moment Factory’s mandate was to create a multimedia infrastructure that would inspire wonder, calm, and fluid circulation. To bring JR-East’s vision and debut multimedia project to life, creative and technical teams in both Montreal and Tokyo leveraged the studio’s expertise in optimizing high-volume transportation hubs that prioritize the passenger experience, including Singapore’s Changi Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, and Moynihan Train Hall in New York City.
Inspired by Shinjuku’s many facets, The Colour Bath is a large-scale, multi-purpose multimedia ecosystem that transforms the East-West Passageway into a harmonious environment. A combination of light, sound, video, and scenography combine to envelop commuters in sensorial serenity, putting them at ease while still encouraging the continuous flow of pedestrian traffic. A series of more than 24 unique colour bath moments evoke the seasonal and diverse story of the region’s distinct culture, reimagining the tunnel as a beacon of Shinjuku pride.
A confluence of calm amid commuter chaos Stretching 100 meters long, and less than 25 meters wide, the passageway funnels more people between its walls in a single day than the entire population of Austin, Texas. A key challenge behind this project was to create a greater sense of comfort and spaciousness within the narrow confines of the existing tunnel. The tunnel was further congested by a patchwork of wayfinding, emergency, and advertising messaging that Moment Factory’s teams had to account for and complement in the design of the multimedia ecosystem.
The studio’s approach was to create a cohesive multimedia canvas where all forms of content can coexist.
“We created a colour bath that synchronizes all media surfaces in the space and surrounds visitors in colourful hues, one after the other, creating a calming experience, but also infusing a bit of wonder into people’s days,” says Amy Chartrand, Creative Director at Moment Factory.
Rather than being a non-descript hallway, The Colour Bath sets the once-uninviting passage awash in warm and welcoming hues. No colour choice was random. Each shade is saturated with a deep appreciation for cultural significance in collaboration with JR-East. Even the unique tones of the Shinjuku sky were carefully calibrated to breathe more air into the space.
The largest of its kind in Japan, the 45-meter LED screen spans nearly half the length of the thoroughfare, while strategically placed lighting adds depth and height to the concourse. Inspired by Shinjuku’s landscapes and diversity, a replenishing cycle of 24 capsules reflects the time of day, various traffic periods, and changing seasons, ensuring the experience stays fresh for daily commuters and visitors. Behind the scenes, an integrated system architecture creates a unified experience and allows for multiple uses, including branded takeover moments.
A model for high-traffic transit hubs Through iconic multimedia installations and signature experiences, Moment Factory changes the way travellers experience their journeys. Adding moments of surprise and wonder to user experiences requires precision and a refined understanding of crowd flow and operational processes. As the world’s busiest travel hub, Shinjuku Station represented the ultimate challenge.
To maintain continuous circulation and prevent traffic jams, Moment Factory developed custom ambient content with the aim of infusing the passageway with flowing energy.
“Because of the volume of passengers, this unique space requires that people keep moving, ‘feeling’ the environmental content around them as they pass through, rather than stopping to look at it. We designed the installation with that objective in mind,” explains Chartrand.
Drawing from the studio’s expertise in rock shows, where the main focus is on the star, rather than on the content, Moment Factory’s creative teams imagined multimedia surfaces as architectural features that would reward, but not demand attention. Several UX and VR tests were performed to understand how people react, feel, and read the screen’s content with their bodies. Every detail, down to the speed at which visual effects unfold across the length of the screen, was optimized for enjoyment at a walking pace.
A conduit for Shinjuku pride As one of the country’s biggest ambient media installations, The Colour Bath has become a fixture on social media channels such as YouTube and Instagram, where visitors share photos, selfies, and video tours.
“Every day, I see numerous customers posting about it on Twitter, Facebook, and other social media networks,” says Shinjuku Station Master, Hidehiko Moriyama. “I think it’s going to become a Shinjuku landmark in the future.”
Beyond connecting passengers across the station, the free passageway is now a conduit for Shinjuku pride.
“I believe we have been able to create a user experience that not only provides a sense of warmth and positivity, considering today’s sense of anxiety, but also conveys the goodness of Shinjuku and the value of the area to everyone who passes through,” says Minori Osawa, Lifestyle Division Director at JR-East.
The multimedia installation earned national recognition by winning the Grand Prix at the 2021 Digital Signage Awards.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime visionary project,” says Normand-Pierre Bilodeau, Producer at Moment Factory. “It exemplifies what can be done for public life in urban environments when you combine creativity, revenue generation, and operations.”

Angelic- Kaz Brekker
OKAY, SO, I know that a lot of you have, in fact, sent requests, and I promise, I’ve got more than one in the works, but here’s a little filler while you wait for your request to be responded to!
It’s a bit ooc for Kaz, but that’s just cause he’s gone a little soft, in a way?
ALSO: The crows and the reader are around 24 for this, you’ll understand why when you read it, and Jesper and the reader are adoptive siblings, sort of!
Fic type-
Warnings- none
Kaz Brekker had spent every waking moment of his life loving you.
You spent every waking moment of your life loving him, and even if touching wasn’t really apart of how Kaz showed his love, he showed it in other ways.
Giving you a sweater to sleep in, a shirt that’d always been too big or even a pair of trousers that’d he’d just not worn in a while, figuring that you’d find some way to make them look better than he ever could.
You had your ways, as well.
Making sure to get him breakfast every morning, dinner every evening, and lunch in between. Cracking a joke when the time arose, knowing where he’d set his boundaries and not pushing them. Offering smiles, warm glances, making sure he’d get to bed at the appropriate times.
Sitting, perched on a windowsill, knees near your chest, book clutched in your hands as you read, or no book at all. Maybe your eyes would be on the view from Kaz’s office as you quietly hummed a lullaby or a drinking tune, a sea shanty you’d probably have shouted alongside Sturmhond and the rest of his crew, forcing Kaz to bite back a smile as you’d let your guard down in those moments, eyes focused on the view and not at all paying attention to your surroundings. Kaz got to admire you in those moments, and he loved every second of it.
But, Kaz’s favorite time of the year was when business died down enough for him to be comfortable enough to leave Nina or Inej in charge of The Barrel for three days, when he’d get to usher you away from everything and out to the farmlands in Novyi Zem, where light pollution wasn’t nearly so common as it was in Ketterdam.
Colm Fahey, bless his heart, had agreed to let yourself and Kaz spend a couple of nights in his place while he visited Jesper and Wylan in the city to talk about their wedding plans.
As you set yourself and Kaz up in the room Colm had given the two of you, Colm took Kaz aside. Made him tea, sat him down and let their silence stir.
“You’re a lucky one, you oughtta know,” Colm murmured after a few moments. “Y/N doesn’t got much in the way of parents.”
“Are you insinuating to me that you think I’m going to propose?” Kaz asked, hand moving to the ring box tucked away in his pocket.
“Yes,” Colms whispers were firm. “Jes let it slip, actually. All I’m saying is that--”
“If they say yes, your place in the wedding is up to them,” Kaz turns his head, glances up the stairs as his grip tightens on the ring box. “However, an invitation, at the least, is something that I can guarantee.” Colm smiled as he picked up his cup, finishing off the last of his tea and gripping his back with one of his pale hands.
“I plan to do nothing but,” Kaz assured. “Tell Jesper I said yes to being his best man, and that he’s missed in the Barrel.” Colm just nodded, walking out the door thereafter.
“You treat them right,” Colm warns. For a moment, Kaz feels a shiver of fear go up his spine, but catches himself with a slight laugh. Torn down by my lovers surrogate father, he thought, shaking his head. I can’t believe it!
You two had agreed to meet in the farm, and as Kaz walked out, he spotted you, back pressed against a tree trunk, eyes on the vast sky.
It was a bit of a distance, but Kaz walked it just fine, slumping down next to you and leaning his cane against the tree as the sunset slowly burned out, and the pinks, oranges, yellows, reds and purple hues were replaced by a murky, black sky.
“I love you, Kaz Brekker,” you murmured as he plopped onto the ground. “I love you so much it makes my heart ache.”
“You’ve always been my favorite investment,” Kaz joked, laughing as he felt your fist lightly hit his arm a moment later.
“Mr. Brekker!”
“Mx. Brekker!” You froze at that, eyes wide, mouth agape, and Kaz, figuring that it was as good a time as any, pulled the ring box from his pocket.
“Y/N L/N, we’ve been together for eight years now. I’ve known you for over ten of those years, though, and each year with you has gotten better. Please marry me?” He held the ring out to you, and when you nodded, slid it onto your ring finger.
“This was my fathers,” you whispered. “Where’d you get it? I haven’t seen it since I was thirteen!”
“Had Inej do some snooping,” he admitted. “Found it in a Fabrikators store in West Ravka. I’ve got your mothers wedding ring, too.”
“Give that one to Inej,” you quipped. “She’s my work wife!”
“Even while she’s killing slavers?”
“Hells yeah!” You shouted, arms going into the air as Kaz tucked the ring box back into his pocket. “Do you think she’ll ever come back? To Ketterdam?”
“Last Nina heard of her, she plans to return around Christmas,” Kaz took your hand, waiting for the rise of his past. When it came, he waited for the wave to fall.
“I can’t wait!” You’d missed her like hell, which Kaz knew. “Goodness, I’ve missed her.”
“She’ll squeal with you about the engagement,” Kaz murmured. “Especially with Nina around. That’s a goddamn guarantee. You can never keep a room too quiet when you three are in one of your excited tizzies,” Kaz interlaced your fingers, and you pressed a kiss to his cheek without a second thought.
“You love me and my excited tizzies, Mr. Brekker,” you teased. Kaz almost touched his cheek as you moved away, resting your head on the tree as your eyes moved back up to the sky again.
“That I do, Mx. Brekker.” He loved every part of you, in every waking moment of every waking day. You were like a storm to him; a tsunami. You were chaotic and scary and delightful and terrifying all at once; a landslide of feelings throughout ten years and more landslides to come, he was sure.
“The stars are always so much brighter here,” you whispered after a few hours of small talk and hand holding, with, of course, a few comfortably quiet periods in between when Kaz got distracted and his past rose up, when he ran his fingers through the grass to distract himself for as long as he’d needed. “Not all of Novyi Zem, of course, cause of the factories and apartment complexes in the city, but the farms!”
“It’s quite wonderful, isn’t it?” Kaz pointed to a constellation when he’d noticed it, hung high in the air. “Look at that, it’s the bloody Sankta Alina constellation!” Kaz wasn’t one for saints, you knew he never would be, but he could name at least three constellations off the top of his head, thanks to Ninas astrology based ramblings.
“Woah!” You jumped, not understanding how you’d not realized it before. “It’s so big, too! What’s it, thirty stars up there?”
“Sixty seven,” Kaz corrected. “Nina told me that before Inej came in and dropped your ring off.”
“Saints,” you cursed. “Rather fucking angelic, isn’t it?”
“Yeah,” Kaz murmured, but his gaze had long since moved off the constellation and back onto you. He pressed a quick, gentle kiss to your cheek and gave your hand a squeeze. “It really is.”
