Would it be okay to ask you for jdrama recs? Coming from someone who hasn't watched a single jdrama in their life 😊 Kind of a jdrama starter pack please? ❤️

*sweats nervously once again* bc as I said before I honestly don’t like to rec things bc I think my taste is all over the place... 😂 and I'm not one who really pays attention or think about the faults of dramas. I just watch and enjoy (most of the time) lol. It also has only been almost four years for me with watching jdramas so I feel like I'm still pretty new to them haha. but I will try~ and what I mention is honestly more of ones I enjoyed the most watching and can remember!

okaaay! if you want to start out v short and sweet w some 🦋's i have two favorite drama specials 💘

— Tadashi Koi no Hajimekata (2023) | episodes: 01. genres: romance, youth. » there's only one episode but with two different versions! the name mentioned above is the first version and then tadashi koi no hajimekata: horoama? horoniga? date hen is the second version. it basically the same but shows the perspective of the two male leads with additional scenes! i just loved the pairing of mako and eita and their chemistry was soo good and fun. i am still v sad it wasn't an actual full length drama 😭 and the song that played at the end of date version was on repeat for months! 10/10 reccomend ✨

— An no Ririkku: Sakuragi An Haiku Hajimetemimashita (2021) | episodes: 02. genres: drama, youth. » i remember enjoying this one a lot it was definitely one of my favorite watches in 2021! since this one isn't the freshest in my memory (i have the worst memory fr) i can't say much but i swear i was obsessed w this special and the leads back in 2021!! 😆

before i get into mentioning actual full-length dramas i'll mention my two favorite jmovies that i actually physically own :)) so if you're interested in watching a movie before diving into dramas 💐

— Murder at Shijinso (2019) | duration: 2hr. 0 min. genres: horror, mystery, thriller, youth. » i love this dumb (affectionately) silly movie so much!! it might also be because i love the main actress hamabe minami but it's definitely just a fun murder mystery to watch :D

— You're Not Normal, Either! (2021) | duration: 1hr. 38 min. genres: comedy, romance, drama. » i enjoyed this one a lot!!! obviously since i also went out of my way to own it haha. but yeah my reviews for literally everything i like is "i enjoyed it" 😅 but seriously i did 🙇‍♀️

now for dramas!! i'll mention my two all time faves then ones i remember enjoying the most! 💐

— Talio Fukushu Daiko no Futari (2020) | episodes: 07. genres: comedy, law, mystery. » it's been three years since it aired and i'm still crying about it 😭 it's the one drama i never shut up about and think about all the time. it's my favorite drama of all time like nothing throughout the years has had a hold on me since!! (what i've previously said about it~) | the way both leads played off each other and their chemistry was just- a++ the soundtrack for the drama was also such a treat and the vibes matched it so well! the vibes of the whole drama though!! I think it was also shot beautifully. and the consistency (!!! the way they kept things going even the smallest details !!!) throughout was something i really appreciated and looked forward too :’) i really be missing it everyday... </3 | i literally have a talio collection that i finally completed a few months ago 🥹 i have the dvd, cd, vinyl, and the magazine the leads were on the cover of 🫶

— Itsuka, Nemuri Ni Tsuku Hi (2019) | episodes: 06. genres: fantasy, friendship, supernatural, youth. » this one still makes my heart hurt whenever i think about it and i just simply love it to pieces. it really has left an lasting impression on me. short and bittersweet. 🖤

— Koi wa Tsuzuku yo Doko Made mo (2020) | episodes: 10. genres: comedy, medical, romance. » ahh so i think this was my first jdrama i watched!?! i honestly cant remember if i watched any before this bc this was the first jdrama i actually made gifs of so i'm going off of that as it being the first haha. but if you want something nice and fun to watch with romance at the forefront this is for youuu! bc i feel like most of my recs aren't romance heavy! and i just remember being obsessed with the leads and pretty sure it's what made me continue to watch jdramas 🫣

— Animals (2022) | episodes: 08 (+ 2 specials). genres: business, romance, drama. » loved loved loved this drama! one out of the five favorite dramas i watched in 2022!! great friendships, great message, funny and sweet moments, lovely lead— umi-chan i miss youuu. 🤧

— Oshi ga Joshi ni Narimashite (2023) | episodes: 12. genres: comedy, drama, romance. » definitely one of the funnest and sweetest drama i watched last year and suzuki airi (female lead) it's just such soo good, love her acting! she's also the lead in the drama animals i previously mentioned! pure rom-com with great chemistry!! ✨

— Kieta Hatsukoi (2021) | episodes: 10. genres: comedy, romance, youth. » high school setting with romance/friendship being the focus!! all the characters are so likable and it was such a cute and fun watch!!

— Ore no Kawaii wa Mousugu Shohikigen!? (2022) | episodes: 09. genres: comedy, romance. » easy fun and cute watch with great leads!!

— Bishoku Tantei Akechi Goro (2020) | episodes: 09. genres: comedy, food, mystery, thriller. » ooh i was obsessed w the leads of this one as well LOL. idk i really had so much fun watching this one and i loved main female lead a lot. 😭 also it had some really funny moments 😭

— Toki wo Kakeru Bando (2020) | episodes: 10. genres: comedy, music, romance, sci-fi » #wasnt expecting any crying to happen going into this drama 😩 #miura shohei's performance though?? AMAZING #he had me in tears every time #ryo i love u #not that it's similar but this reminds me of itsuka nemuri ni tsuku hi 🤧 | tags from a post i posted when i watched yeah 😂

— Dr. White (2022) | episodes: 10 (+ 1 special). genres: comedy, drama, medical, mystery. » also another favorite from my five favorite dramas watched in 2022! even though it wasn't finished being subbed until last year i still very much enjoyed what eps i watched back then! like i really looked forward to every episode and soo grateful the subber decided to finish it and subbed the special as well! i might be bias because i love hamabe minami who's the female lead (and is in two other things i mentioned above lol) but all the characters are v likable and they all have great chemistry together! plus i enjoyed the v subtle hint of romance between the two mains like it isn't really there but it is and i was quite satisfied with the ending. 🫶

— Ryosangata Riko: Puramo Joshi no Jinsei Kumitate Ki (2022) | episodes: 10. genres: business, drama, life. » i adore the lead so much, she's the cutest! i find this one to be such a fun and relaxing watch! and there's a cute little hint of romance which was soo good to me and wish we got more of them. 😭 there's also a second season: Ryosangata Riko: Mou Hitori no Puramo Joshi no Jinsei Kumitate ki / with same cast members but set in a new universe that just aired last year!

— Okaeri Mone (2021) | episodes: 120. genres: life, drama, romance. » the number of episodes might scare you but this drama is an asadora (morning drama) which is only 15 minutes per episode! so if you're looking for a longer watch about life with a bit of romance i 10/10 recommend checking it out!! yes hello i always miss them 😭

— Nanyobi ni Umareta no (2023) | episodes: 09. genres: drama » this one is keeping me really interested and is definitely a type of drama i haven't really watched much of?? it's engaging, surprising and the actors are great! i feel like most dramas i mentioned are easy going ones to watch besides a few so this one is the latter!

My five favourite fics I’ve written…

1. The Blacksmith - my epic Halbrand/Sauron x Reader (and Galadriel - LONG LIVE THE POWER POLYCULE) story that is to this day my longest fic ever. 102k! I’m so damn proud of it and am still in disbelief I even wrote it! Set during the events of The Rings of Power Season One and beyond, it’s a tale of love and destiny and how the two intertwine, for good and for evil.

2. Your Blood, Your Power - first time ever writing a modern AU (I used to avoid them and now that is NOT the case). Haladriel/Saurondriel Vampire AU that sees Gal as a huntress, tangled in lust (and love? 😜) with her evil vampire nemesis Hal. People have told me it reminds them of Buffy and True Blood and I’m just floored by that!!

3. I Felt It Too - a one shot that I’ve been asked to continue (I promise one day I will!). Haladriel/Saurondriel, basically what if they weren’t interrupted during that scene on the log before Orodruin erupted. 😏

4. Two Rings - two short companion pieces about Saurondriel, set during the Third Age. Their rings of power can’t help but remind them of each other and what they lost, what they could’ve had.

5. I’m sorry but I’m cheating and picking two because I CANNOT decide between them:

Shake Like the Bough of a Willow Tree - Human!Halbrand what if tale about Orodruin never erupting. From Hal’s POV (and I think I told someone recently I hadn’t written his POV before when duh of course I have). Haladriel one shot, inspired by the song Movement by Hozier.

And… Barred - Haladriel one shot, another what if, set during their brief time imprisoned together in Númenor. Basically a PWP 😂

Work in Progress - Episode 1

Hello my loves and welcome to this new project of mine!🫶🏻

Here I will be giving you some insights on finished stories: how I came up with certain ideas, the meanings behind song recs and titles etc.

I hope my train of thought is interesting for you :)

Episode 1: "The Line" Series - Logan Sargeant

Title:

The title was the last thing I added when the story was already finished and I knew I was going to split it into 3 parts. Since I suck at coming up with titles I wanted to do something creative where the 3 titles have a continuous theme kind of like the „You“ series with Dennis Hauger. 

Now I was on the search for a connecting theme and the only thing I could come up with was a line since I kept thinking about a finish line bc Logan and y/n are both racing drivers. 

So what can you do with a line? Cross it.

Whether it‘s the finish line in a race or the line between being friends and lovers/ the line between a friendship and a relationship.

But before you cross that line, it usually gets a bit blurry until you don‘t know what side you‘re on anymore. That‘s what happens in Part 1 (blur the line): the line between them gets increasingly blurry as they grow closer.

Ultimately in Part 2 (across the line),  the inevitable happens and they cross the line: The morning after their drunk night, they are across the line, but they have not made it yet. It is not: When you're across the line the race is over. No, it is: When you're across the line, everything gets harder (bc I'm a dramatic writer lol)

Once you‘ve crossed the line there‘s no turning back. You can't exactly go back to just being friends, and the future is very fucking scary, especially when you're two young, up and coming F2 drivers.

It‘s all or nothing so Logan puts it all on the line (Part 3) when he finally confronts y/n in Spa. 

Storyline / Plot ideas / Process of Writing:

At first you must know that I primarily started writing this fic bc someone requested a Logan fic. It was literally never my plan to write such a huge Logan story but it kind of evolved on its own 😂

„Keep talking, y/n. I‘m listening.“ // „At least he listens to me when I talk.“

 I started with a „prompt“ I saw on TikTok where a girl was counting down things guys do that are attractive and this was one of them: Listening to you when you think nobody's listening.

Originally this fic was supposed to be way shorter than it turned out to be and I thought I’d only be writing that one scene (of them in the restaurant) + maybe a scene before and after that. 

Idk if you noticed but I like adding little things like taglines and callbacks, so I added the "See you when I overtake you" in the beginning and wanted to kind of make it Logan and y/n's thing.

They also make 2 deals in the story:

The first deal is made in part 2, where they kiss for the first time to determine Logan's drunk talent. It sparks their relationship/ makes them cross the line and kicks off their relationship as lovers.

The second deal is made at the very end of part 3, where they decide to forgive each other for their wrong doings. This deal also sort of kicks off their relationship, but in a healthy, communicative way. It resolves the last issues between them.

Then there are little things like the special coffee blend, the champagne scene, drunk Dennis etc. I can't really explain where they came from. They only came along as I was writing and I went with the flow and my imagination :)

Onto the crash in part 3. I feel like I have to explain it a bit further bc I feel like I cannot for the life of me describe/ come up with realistic crashes. This crash was 100% inspired by/ copied from the collision of Hamilton and Alonso at Spa I think it was, where Hamilton's whole rear end of the car went up in the air. Maybe this helps your imagination a little bit 😅

Song recs, my favorite part of writing stories lol

To be honest with you, I wrote almost the whole thing listening to "The Monster" over and over again, but the other songs fit the vibe of the parts better.

Part 1: blur the line

Electric Love - BØRNS

This song is the definition of young, easy love for me. It's so upbeat and makes you feel like nothing can go wrong. It's the excitement of falling in love, the feeling of your heart beating faster whenever you see that one specific person. This is exactly what Part 1 is all about: pure fluff and crushing on each other 🥰

Part 2: across the line

High For This - The Weeknd

Who writes better songs to set the mood for smut than The Weeknd??? The build of tension, the chorus, the lyrics, everything just fits so well ugh 😫 No further explanation needed tbh

The Monster - Eminem feat. Rihanna

Literally none of the message of the song has anything to do with this story I guess, I just like the way it makes me think of a couple kind of singing to each other. Crisis, drama, tension, uneasiness.

Also look at this phrase in the song: "Well that's not fair."

- Both Y/n and Logan have a moment where they've probably thought: That's not fair.

For y/n it was directly after their night together where Logan asks her to forget about it. For Logan it was at breakfast when y/n tells Dennis that Logan's not her type. They're both disappointed in the other and don't think it's fair that they're being treated that way but they don't realize how much they've hurt the other.

Part 3: all on the line

The Heart Wants What It Wants - Selena Gomez

Logan and y/n in this story are the DEFINITION of "the heart wants what it wants"! This is also almost all part 3 is about: That they're trying to go against their hearts, trying to do the rational thing and move on.... but their hearts won't stop beating for the other ;)

Also this is a very modern fairytale... at least kind of... these two kids get a happy ending lol 🤭

Pictures of You - The Last Goodnight

Again, the message of this song doesn't technically fit with the story but I like this song a lot and it's just such an "ending the story" kind of song for me? Like, good vibes, everything has turned out good?

This song is also talking about pictures a lot (I know, in a different sense but still, pictures are pictures), and I can only imagine how many pictures were made when Logan and y/n kissed on the track in the end :)

Also just imagine them staring at each other, then they crash into each other as the chorus starts, oml

I guess in the end this whole story was simply all about letting yourself fall in love. About taking the risk of following your heart. 🫶🏻

Hmm. I'm glad my Krampus experience was better than yours then then.

Oh yes, I'm sure I'd get along well with Husk and Angel Dust. I'll have to share photos of my little Christmas village during the holidays. Hah...I remember I had a dream once that Angel and I were just watching dumb tik toks and giggling like mad...and he kept calling me Shortcake. Now I want someone to call me that irl. 😅

I'm not typically one for parties. I either stick like glue to one or two people I know...or if there's any kind of pet, I will disappear to hang out with it. I found goats and chickens at a cousin's outdoor wedding once. After dinner, no one saw me again. 😂 That being said, Charlie's costume party actually sounds fun! Maybe I could crash it for a bit this year. Idk if you're aware, but Florida absolutely contains portals to hell, which is why I'm able to pop in from time to time. I suppose because I'm super *not* dead, I just sort of get...popped back home after a bit. Lol. I love dressing up. My last Halloween costume, I was Beetlejuice. Wore a black and white striped dress, my friend did my makeup and we spray painted my hair green. 😁

A lottery! Intriguing. Maybe a bit alarming for us over worlders. Hah. Though, things are pretty bad up here. We'd probably barely notice any chaos a demon visitor would cause! Hah!

We're opposite ends on The Shining. I've only watched the movie and not read the book. I know King is brilliant, but I think I got halfway through one his books once. Surprisingly not a huge fan of most horror. But it's only bc...none of it scares me, so I usually feel kind of disappointed? I'll like those kinds of movies if they're well written/have some humor/have a good aesthetic. The art school bitch in me is sated by beautiful camera work and colors. Haha. Oh, recommendation, watch Crimson Peak.

No offense taken at the drunk comments. I suppose it hasn't been a bad experience for me since I've never been so drunk I wasn't unaware of what I was doing. I used to go to bars a lot (had a lot of musician friends then...I've been to a frankly obscene number of open mics) so I feel you on being subjected to obnoxious inebriated people. I generally drank a coke...or if I was feeling particularly feisty...a Shirley Temple. 🤣 You'd be amazed the side eye and teasing I'd get for that order. Never cared, those things are tasty!

I am personally not one to be scared of silly movies or books however I did find myself deeply invested in the fate of the characters. In the Shining book if I recall correctly, the father cared far more about his family in the book than in the movie where he was a raging horrible maniac. So I just went diving through my bookmarks for ones I’ve both marked as recs and tagged as favorites and here’s some:

ertrunkener_Wassergeist -> have I played Final Fantasy? No, we didn’t have video games in my house growing up. But you know how it is - pretty fanart comes across your dash, a fic is attached, you get sucked into a fandom you only know through the fandom. And then get attached to a minor character. And then a repair. This author is one of the ones that has such good and multiple fics for that. And their fics are just gorgeous. Their mind - the characters are so fleshed and the world building so awe inspiring to me. Who needs canon knowledge when I can just pretend that’s their fics?

inexplicifics -> again, it’s the characterizations and world building talent that draws me in and amazes me. They are the creator of a whole trope for Witcher fanfics which has to be some kind of secret fanfic achievement. The writing and storytelling always draws me in - I’ll say just one chapter and don’t even realize I’ve clicked “next chapter” a bunch.

Amethystina -> I started reading them for their Marvel fanfics and their AUs are so good. The character beats, the AU world building. Autonomy is still one of my favorite AUs for WinterIron. (I love a good space AU and it DELIVERS.) The way they write their worlds just feels so easy to believe and fall into, y’know? Love it.

Three ships: Well, at this very minute today, Alex and Henry are my primary hyperfixation, so firstprince is definitely getting a mention. Drarry, because I'll always come back to them. 💚 And for number three...I'll say Dramione for writing and Harry/Teddy for reading. 😏

First ship: First ship I wrote was Nick & Jess from New Girl! Oof, almost ten years ago. Erased from the internet, if not my mind. That kiss from The Cooler will never not have me by the throat, though. I read lots of Reylo next, and then made the natural Reylo to Dramione transition.

Last Song: Hmmm...on Spotify, could cry just thinking about you by Troye Sivan. The last thing I actually heard was probably London Boy.

Last movie: RWRB has been in heavy rotation but the last thing I saw in the theatre was a 30th anniversary viewing of Jurassic Park with my kiddos.

Currently reading: just finished muscle memory by @stutteringpeach 😍 and because I take deep dives into the back catalogues of authors I enjoy, I've been reading all the rest of their work and will move onto the winner takes it all next. Mine are all from other fandoms, but just in case any Reylos still follow me or your sexual awakening was also Jareth the Goblin King 😂, I'll share my 5 favorite fics that I’ve written w/ all the old shit I made for them:

1. when the moon met the sun in the sky [reylo fantasy au | E | 71k | 20/20] — To date my proudest work, just because it was fun to try and attempt to evoke a Miyazaki-style fantasy world, and the world-building was so much fun.

"Who?" Rey asked.

She knew who. But she didn't know what else to say.

The man called Kylo Ren — Ben, her mind whispered — rolled his shoulders, a tick she'd seen before, a thousand times at least; an echo of a boy she used to know.

He seemed to notice. He took a tentative step toward her. When she flinched in response, he froze.

"Don't do that," he said, soft as a psalm. His dark eyes darted over every inch of her.

"Do what?" she asked.

"Lie."

2. Boon [reylogan heist au | E | 39k | 12/20] — This is such a niche fic in the first place because it’s a crossover between SW and Logan Lucky, but man, it was so fun and Rey/Clyde are so soft. I’d never attempted to write a heist and I obviously didn’t finish but I still have a fondness for this (permanently? IDK) on hiatus little fic.

“Your jar looks like it’s full of stars,” Sadie said, gaping at it.

“It does,” Clyde agreed. He raised his own. “Time to set them free?”

Sadie nodded, skipping into the night to release hers. As Rey turned to follow, Clyde snaked his good hand around her wrist.

“Follow me.”

He led her around the house, where the night felt denser, darker, somehow warmer. Underfoot, wild daisies swayed in the dying summer breeze.

“Here,” he murmured. She smiled at him, then twisted the top of her jar off. He followed suit. Together, they shook the little bugs free — to fly away, blinking little lights in the darkness; hazy yellow stars they might touch.

3. Crown Glass [reylo fantasy au | M | 4k | 1/1] — I love this one because it just sort of came into being; a prompt/gift one-shot that took on a mind of its own, but I got to play more with present tense and some high-fantasy elements bouncing around in my brain.

She shouldn’t be able to find it. But she does.

It stands tall, tucked away in the back of the cellar; she weaves through abandoned armor, crusted cauldrons, and shelves and shelves of spellbooks to reach it. It’s old, ancient even; she can feel that, even if she’d never set eyes on it, full-length and ringed in circles of crown glass that shimmer in the gloom.

She reaches out a hand, skimming the surface–

And then a world appears on the other side.

A room, awash in milky moonlight. A desk, buried by books. A bed…

And a man.

She draws her hand back, heart thumping as loud as the magic in her ears.

The world flickers and fades back into blackness.

4. This is the Sign You've Been Looking For [reylo modern au | E | 29k | 10/10] — My first real Reylo fic and what got me back into writing after years away, so I have to give it credit! Also my first ever AU, and Virgin artist Ben Solo and sign maker Rey were so sweet and sad but with a nice HEA.

"I'm sorry," Rey murmured, drawing close. She could only seem to look at her feet.

He pressed a large palm to her face, tilting her head up to look at him. The music filtering in from the living room was noticeably softer; vaguely, Rey recognized Elton's "Your Song" playing in the background and decided it was a good idea to rest her hands on Ben's hips.

He glanced down at her touch, swallowing hard.

"Don't be," he hummed.

5. Muse [Labyrinth canonverse fic | E | 82k | 20/20] — I have a lot of Feelings about this fic, but I have to include it even though a part of me wants to edit it into oblivion, haha. I feel like I’ve come so far as a writer since finishing this in my early twenties, but I’ll always appreciate this for how it helped me improve, for how it gave me an avenue to do more with fantasy world-building, and for the nice response it got in a small little fandom.

"Why did you give me the peach?"

He stared at her, his expression unfathomable.

"Are you going to answer me?" asked Sarah quietly.

"You know why I gave it to you," replied Jareth, "To make you forget."

"No," continued Sarah, "I know. That wasn't what I meant. Why did you give me the peach, knowing that I would never be able to leave after taking a bite?"

Okay, Mavid thoughts, be waned this is gonna be long!

How turned on was David when he first saw Max in a uniform in any universe? I feel like he kind of pushes him into a wall and kisses him senseless every time

I have this feeling that Jackson and Shinuyin would vibe really well, and I pretty sure they're sort of besties in TLND and silently (or not so silently) judging their besties for being whipped messes for their husbands. I mean imagine Alec and Max posting a video of them working out and Magnus and David lose their shit over it and Jackson and Shinuyin are somewhere in the background face palming. Hilarious😂

I'm pretty sure Shinuyin went feral when Mallory hurt Mavid in TLND and sometimes thinking of the things she must have some to the Devlins afterwards makes me kinda giddy, she probably burned them to the ground

I love that in most of your fanfictions David is spoiling the kids and Max tries to hold him back but in IALS David is the strict one and Max is the chill one, letting them do whatever they want. Is that because they didn't get to raise them together in IALS or is it sometime that's going to happen eventually in all of them when the kids get older?

I think it's really important to mention that Mallory took the ring in IALS and Max never gave it to her, that she took it from his suitcase and he didn't give it to her. I know that it was mentioned somewhere that Max gave it to her because he was scared but that's kinda vague and I feel like it's important for David to know the whole story. Did they ever talk about it?

Max finding out about Jaden/David dating and being an ass about it and finding out they're engaged and just saying congrats is the progress we're here for, it really shows how far he came in IALS. But it also makes me kind of sad, because I feel like some part had to do with him being in denial about David being over him and then just accepting that he lost David and that's why he didn't feel angry about it

I need Mavid in IALS talking about how Lance thinking that Max is the sun and Jaden is nothing compared to him is something he got from David and how AJ wanting to protect David at all costs is something he got from Max. Like, as a joke Max would go, the only person that thinks I'm superior toe everyone is Lance, and David would reply, and where do you think he got that from Mon Ange? And Max would melt🥰

Also, not Max thinking David didn't care about his birthday when David was probably crying on the phone to Jackson about it and even made the kids wake up that on time at night to wish him. I can see him getting Max a cupcake and putting a candle in it in the kitchen when everyone else was asleep and go like, Happy Birthday Mon Ange. Too much? Maybe but I like the thought

Why didn't AJ throw David the party?

I can totally see David being sad/petty about Mona and Max telling he wore the shirt he bought him on their first date to cheer him up

Theory: The blonde woman that flirted with Max in FMF epilogue was Madeleine?

Max saying he hates David while living in a house that has a view that reminds him of David gibes off the same vibes as Magnus wanting to move on from Alec with his wedding ring in his pocket. This two be clowning all day every day, I swear to God

Very good point! What Max mentions by "i gave it to her" is "i never took it back" (guilt is a bitch bro). They don't talk about Mallory much at all tbh (not in an avoidant way, but they just don't want to)

Wish we had explored this (but we didn't because david pov was written differently during the time when Max was dating her) but Max's relationship with Mona scared the shit out of David (especially when he realized the kids like her and Max likes that too)

Been reading more, im finally in the mood to knit again, so I started a new project today, and it’s a sweater which will mostly be in the round which is good, cause I can read on my kindle and knit at the same time that way😂.

I don’t know if you’ll enjoy them, but I found this band on Saturday and I’ve been listening to their EP a lot. It's kinda. I don't know it's hard to describe. It's jazz? electronic, jazz. with 70s vibes. and reminds me of Legend of Zelda somehow, haha. The band also wears sparkly jewl masks, and a mask is always a plus to me!!

I've also been listening to a lot of pop? I've been putting Troye Sivan on repeat again, oof. Idk why his stuff reminds me of Midwest winters.

aghhhhh i'm sorry i know how much you love him (and i can totally see why, whenever your posts about him pop up on my dash i think he looks SO cool, and also i've heard only the loveliest things about him), but this is just not really my vibe, it's too electronic for me 😅 that being said, i was listening to these in the living room and my sister (and flatmate lol) was there and the moment this song started playing she looked up from her phone and said "oh my god, turn it up" and that's how i found out she's a käärijä fan 😂

1. a book that is close to your heart

there are a few books i could name, but i'm going to do the one i thought of first.

a girl of the limberlost. i only remember reading it once, but my mother is the one who gave it to me, and told me that it was a book she loved at my age at the time. (same with the secret garden.) so i can't think of that book without thinking of her, which makes it a little bit more special to me <3

13. your favorite romance novel

immediate impulse is to say legends and lattes by travis baldree bc. it's so good. however, while there is a romance i don't know if i would count it as a romance novel.

so.

the lady's guide to celestial mechanics. historical, sapphic, featuring both women in STEM (or, yknow, historical equiv) but also an appreciation for domestic arts / crafts normally looked down on. also there's an acknowledgement that homophobia existed, but there's none on page.

the prose is also gorgeous.

i don't actually read a ton of romance novels, but i've been trying to pick up more!

23. a book that is currently on your TBR

but Our Wives Under the Sea - Julia Armfield went on sale on kindle the other day so! it's mine now <3 and one i've been eying for a while. the kindle cover isn't the one i wanted, but that's okay.

i don't actually cry at much? the last time i remember actually crying was when i was reading an abridged version of little women and beth died xD

i don't have a good memory for opening lines ^^; however for some reason i want to say The Lightning Thief, so. that's what i'm going with.

kay, so i almost answered this question with the book i gave for the next question, but i realized i don't? read a lot of multi pov books?? or at least not that i remember being such. i did remember one but it was the second in a duology, so.

the closest i can think of atm would be Empress of Forever by Max Gladstone. (highly rec this one, though i was a little disappointed when the pairing i wanted didn't happen xD)

116. a book with multiple povs

okay, so. if you are. remotely squeamish, like. at all? you might wanna give this one a pass. (def check storygraph / other places for trigger warnings. im also happy to elaborate myself, lol.) i am. very squeamish, and made it through only because the story grabbed me tight and wouldn't let go. the worldbuilding is extremely interesting. the characters are all very different and both likeable and unlikeable in a million different ways. but.

oh boy, it was a tough one.

if you're NOT squeamish, though--

it was a 4 or 5 star read for me, iirc, so, y'know. recommended. not sure i'll ever pick it up again, but like. do not regret reading.

130. a book featuring flashbacks and/or intersecting storylines

i know i've read others like this, but the book that comes to mind is--and i had to google this bc it's been so long since i read it---Thirst by Christopher Pike. It was also published under "The Last Vampire." i don't actually recommend them; i read them during my middle school vampire phase and even i remembered being a little mindboggled. mainly bc i think there was an alien abduction in... the second or third book? idk, i had an omnibus.

there's only one answer i can give to this, tbh. the locked tomb series brainrot is real and deep and i am. both highly anticipating and dreading the release of alecto so.

i gotta recommend Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir.

that SAID, i am well aware that this book has a reputation on tumblr esp for being poorly summarized, as the most oft-used pitch is "lesbian necromancers in space."

this is not an inaccurate summary.

BUT.

it is also not complete.

so first, some expectations: it's sci-fi, definitely, but also there are a lot of fantasy vibes? probably because of the swords and the necromancy and the sworn knights-esque plot. uh. basically, it's sci-fi like star wars is sci-fi, but also it's. it's not star wars.

second thing: this series is unreliable narrator central. tamsyn picks the least qualified person in the group for you to follow the story with, and it works. so well. like, firstly bc ofc things get explained (some; it does drop you in and expect you to pick up a lot through context clues) but ALSO because you WILL pick up things you didn't on re-reads. i did a reread before Nona and spent half of it screaming. i'm not much of an annotator beyond highlighting some lines on kindle but i was commenting all over the place.

uh.

i still haven't talked about the plot, my bad.

Gideon the Ninth follows the titular Gideon, after her childhood nemesis and heir to the Ninth House, is invited to the First House by the God Emperor of the Nine Houses to seek quasi-immortality and join him in fighting a war as old as the Houses themselves. When they get there, though, they soon find their fellow heir-and-cavalier pairs being picked off one by one.

this book also features a lot of gay... not pining, not really, but like. Gideon likes women and her pov spends a lot of time appreciating the other women with them xD (this is also part of what makes her unreliable as a narrator. plot? what plot? gideon is here for thirsting, and a little bit of pining.)

also mild enemies to lovers vibes.

ALSO there are memes. there's a none pizza left beef joke in book 2, i'm still not over it.

does get a little squicky at times with loving descriptions of bones and viscera, though.

if i keep talking about this book i won't ever stop <3
