Seasons in Onmyodo: Kanro: Sneaking Away, Diplomatic Immunity and When the Kami Come Back!
Tumblr media
Starting with October 8th, the traditional Japanese Season of Kanro begins. Like all of the seasons, Kanro is further divided into three microseasons, each with a different effect on gameplay.
Kogan Kitaru
With the wild geese returning, summer has officially been left behind and the cold starts. This is a time for sneaking away for some intimate warmth. As such, any of the Travelers in your adventuring group who share Secrets (a form of Drama) leave the group for the duration of Kogan Kitaru. Note: this might even end the game if there are no Travelers left on the Journey!
Kiku no Hana Hiraku
A symbol of nobility, the beautiful Chrysanthemums bloom. During this time, the Nobles in your Group cannot be Attacked! (I call it a form of diplomatic immunity)
Kirigirisu to no Ari
The sound of the nearby crickets create a rhythm that keeps everyone happy and productive. Remembering the pleasure in simple things. This is when any previously Enlightened Travelers (who are now Kami) descend from Heaven and rejoin their old comrades temporarily.

Necromancer Heretic is an upcoming solo card and journaling game. You play as a sorcerer who is trying to resurrect your dead lover before being stopped by the king's guards. It uses a standard deck of cards and has mechanics similar to blackjack.
Stay tuned!

Hello! I'm Sierra (she/her).
I majored in English with a concentration in writing for my undergraduate degree, but now a few years later I've completely switched things up and I'm getting my degree in music therapy after realizing I'd rather just write for my own enjoyment. I'd gotten out of the habit of writing everyday until I found solo journalling games, and I've been down the rabbit hole with them ever since. Apothecaria was the first solo game I ever played.
I've always wanted to play TTRPGs with a group, but every time I join one, it breaks up before we even start playing. This has happened 4 times now! Another reason why I've gone the solo route.
I taught ESL for 6 years, and ever since then I've been very interested in figuring out new ways to learn and teach. I find that humans are so often motivated by stories, and I've been working on trying to create my own games that incorporate learning and storytelling elements. It's by no means an original idea, but I'm curious how this concept might work for solo players. I'm always reading and playing various games and studying their mechanics to find what might work for me!

today on my When All You Have is a D10 project: Rolling a 6 with a D100.
-
1-16: Option 1
17-32: Option 2
33-48: Option 3
49-64: Option 4
65-80: Option 5
81-96: Option 6
97-100: Reroll
-
if you get that last one you can reroll the ones column, tens column, or both, up to you. tune in next time for so fucking help me i WILL find an efficient way to substitute dice for a deck of playing cards
#solo rpgs#solo ttrpgs#ttrpg tables#i doubt this is something people haven't figured out many times already; but! it's useful and i hadn't seen it anywhere#and it was enough of a hassle that i figured i'd save some time for anybody who also will find it useful and hadn't seen it elsewhere#also i know it would maybe be more in the spirit of the thing to call it 'when all you have is a d100'#because a *lot* of the time that's effectively what you're rolling for; and maybe i will change the name to that#but you could do it with just a d10! it'd be really annoying in some cases because you have to roll d10 twice for a d100! but you could!#current parameters of the challenge are 'make the roll without having to reroll anything below a 90 or a 10'#i made the rpgsolo hack to be playable with only a d10 and d100 and it was fun enough that i wanted to do more with that#also i will be fair and say that the dice deck thing is not necessarily when all you have is a d10. i will take any dice combo that works#my disabled ass can't use physical cards; and physical dice are dodgy#but there are a LOT more digital dice rollers out there than there are digital card deck tools#let alone ones that don't rely on an online server; let alone ones that actually work on mobile#it is A Quest of Mine and i have zero experience with game jams but i am legit considering poking at hosting one for this#in particular because there's like 5000 ways you could do it and it would be nice to give people accessibility options#in case whatever go-to i jury-rig for myself doesn't jive with them#it does count as awkward tables initiative to me though so it goes under the same banner as this one#when all you have is a d10 project#awkward tables initiative#RPGSolo#ttrpg tag#whosebaby does game dev#whosebaby makes things#edit: literally less than a half hour after posting this i found. the simplest possible way to draw a card with dice. wheezes#figuring out a method to keep TRACK of a deck efficiently is probably another story but OH MY GOD. IT'S BEEN A YEAR#AMAZING

The Etterfend
Rare spawn for my TCG board game (still dunno what to call it, card board game? hah!). It's a mutant cryptid horror, perpetually wandering the land, eating everything it can while its body perpetually rots and falls apart.
Was thinking of making its relic drop be an item that drains your health with each step you take but whenever you defeat a mob you heal up a lot, and if you were to take lethal damage then you banish the relic from the game and ignore that damage instead. Will see though :)

These super colorful & fun cards I bought while on vacation in Cape Cod are perfect for playing solo games like Carta; an RPG slant on solitaire card games where you move a gamepiece along the cards and each card you turn over provides you with a story prompt about your character's journey.
(I have a Pikachu coin sitting on the Queen of Hearts as my gamepiece, and some damage counters lined up along the top representing my Resources.)
The game I was playing while I took this pic was Tea & Toadstools, where you play as a hedgehog navigating your woodland neighborhood looking for a quiet place to relax. My other Carta recs are:
The Witch's Almanac, where you forage through a magical, mysterious forest for potion ingredients, and
Courage, a Zelda-inspired experience that is much more intensive than the others, where you will play through multiple dungeons (different card layouts), collect items, and defeat bosses. The character sheet that keeps track of all of that progress is super slick!
Some other Carta games I am interested in but haven't played yet are A Day At the Crystal Market, Theme Park After Dark, and Running With a Mouthful of Toast.

Get to know me tag game!
Exactly what it says on the tin, I was tagged by @samblerambles for this one!
Top 3 Ships: I hope this question means just, like, currently, cause no way could I choose a top 3 of all time 😭. Current Nuclear-Levels-of-Brainrot Blorbo ships are: 1) Jeca (Jesse x Beca, Pitch Perfect); 2) Zelink (Link x Zelda, primarily Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom); and 3) Zekkna (Jaina x Zekk, Star Wars Legends/Young Jedi Knights). Honorable mentions go to the polyam versions of these ships tho (JessexBecaxChloe and Jaina's Mini Harem aka JainaxZekkxJag(xmaybe Kyp but I'm not sold on him). And maybe also YonaxSidonxLinkxZelda, which I just think is neat and fun)
Favorite color: yellow! I love a good golden, sunny yellow I gotta say 😁
Last Song: unintentionally, Cake by Itzy (played on the radio at the boba place I went to today); intentionally, Mr. Perfectly Fine (Fearless Vault Track by Taylor Swift)
Last Book: you know what, it's been 7 months since I last read anything, I think that officially makes this answer None until I get around to reading another book 😅.... Or it's the Little Golden Books baby's first biography on Taylor Swift. Which might actually be cringier 😅 (cringe is dead and it's a cute book etc etc but goddamn does this still say something about my ability to read actual books nowadays rip)
Last Movie: The Eras Tour Movie, preceded by The Barbie Movie
Currently Watching: nothing intentionally. I like watching some of the MeTV block of classic 70's/80's/90's shows tho. I'm always down for classic Macgyver and Emergency!
Current obsession: while you might come to the conclusion, based on this post, that it's Taylor Swift, I'm actually still fairly normal about her I promise 😅 I maintain the distinction that I'm a swiftie, but I'm not a Swiftie™. There's a difference. No, the actual answer is only mentioned once so far: Pitch Perfect, more specifically Jeca (and also SwanSongs aka Jesse/Beca/Chloe), even more specifically the secret good sequel to the third movie where Jeca can still win (and everyone is truly, canonically queer in a myriad of ways) that lives rent-free in my head, multiple pages of my sketchbooks, and as the Big Damn Fic™ I've been posting very slowly to AO3 since last year. Don't believe me? I'm gonna add '#jeca' and '#not to Blorbo on main but' to the tags of this post, look through the reblogs and actual blogs I've tagged over the past couple years and you'll truly understand how deep it all goes.
Currently Working On: allegedly, it's chapter 2 of the Big Damn Fic™ I just mentioned, 'these hands had to let it go free and- (This Love came back to me)', for which i just posted the ending a couple weeks ago as its own fic in the series to show that I'm doing something with it.
Country You Want to Visit: Scotland, Norway, and New Zealand. And also maybe Iceland. Pretty much in that order. I'd take a tour of Europe too tbh but those are the Big 3 (4).
Tags for Funsies: @thesorrowoflizards @lord-owlsnake @qcboeifzzz @beautiful-flutey @avian-violet and anyone else who sees this and wants to do it! Go for it! (No pressure tho ofc)
