I gave peppercorn his first feeding today and im v sad i didn't document the process bc like
I use chopsticks to feed him cuz I didn't feel the need to splurge on a pair of feeding tweezers but I was leaned at an awkward angle on the tank so I ended up dropping the freshly sous vide mouse on the doorstop of his favourite hide like a goddamn uber eats order
and because of the wack angle I dropped it at, he didn't eat the lil guy from where it was
peps climbed out a bit, grabbed it by the middle, dragged it into his hide (much like me scampering to the door upon hearing the notification for souvlaki) and awkwardly rotated around his meal til he was the correct direction to fit it into his mouth
and now my brain can't stop thinking about the phrase
"Fellas have you ever ordered so much food you had to rotate?"

okay once again i am coming to tumblr to ask for help as in HOW DO I EAT MORE VEGETABLES IN THE AGE OF LISTERIA. lol but no really, here is the problem:
i was a salad guy, i used to eat mostly raw veg but i don't feel super comfortable doing that rn.
i'm also autistic and i end up getting super overwhelmed every dinner time because adding new steps for dishes i haven't made before is really daunting, and when i start looking for new recipes online it's like there are so fucking many? so i freeze.
basically i love vegetables and pre-pandemic i ate them all the time but now that we can't go inside grocery stores where no one's masking and can't pick out our own produce, most of the produce we DO get from the store pickup/delivery is... disappointing at best. like sometimes we get it and it's already rotting.
needless to say i eat like 70% less veg than i used to and it's been really negatively affecting how well i feel.
farmers markets are too expensive for me to go to with any sort of regularly. we're considering farmers boxes but they are also kind of prohibitively expensive rn, so i guess i'm looking for like... idk, other solutions, if they exist?
or maybe i'm just hoping for literally any ways to eat more greens/veg that i can
1) cook/heat in some way because covid, and because it can hide the quality of shitty veg at the supermarket
2) aren't very very time consuming (i'm willing to spend like an hour making supper but that's about my energy capacity)
3) aren't something i need to buy an air frier or like a fucking sous vide or something to prepare
or maybe suggestions for veg that keep a little longer than greens do because we kind of shop just twice a month for covid exposure reasons?
this doesn't need to be like "healthy eating" i'm just looking for more variety in my diet.
anything, pls? recipes, ideas. i love veg i will eat all of them, i just never really learned to cook them well, or how to incorporate them into a lot of meals when it's not, like, salad
or even where do you get veg that is kind of affordable/doesn't suck?

waiting patiently at y!chuuyas door to greet him with home made dinner and his favorite cake cause you think you’ve been a little too difficult lately (you finally developed Stockholm Syndrom)
reader who fully turns into a needy puppy waiting for y!Chuuya to come home and sob in his arms if he’s late
Nah bc this would be me I wouldn't even put up a fight
Cooking for him or cleaning up around the house even though Chuuya is a tidy man, even though he didn't ask you to do it. It's partly out of boredom and partly because you want to make yourself useful, feeling a little guilty for sitting around all day and not contributing. You decide to make him dinner, since you've noticed he frequently comes home late with takeout or microwave meals, or goes to bed with nothing but a glass of wine in his stomach. You decide to bake him something too since you're already there, just managing to pull the cookies out of the oven as his keys turn in the door.
Chuuya would be so surprised, expecting to find you in bed since it's so late, maybe asleep or sulking. But no, you've got a pair of oven mitts on and are greeting him nervously at the door, and something smells delicious. He feels so happy, so surprised and flattered that you went out of your way to make something for him, hugging you and giving you a kiss to reassure you that whatever it is you made, he'll like it. He eats with you by his side, feeding you a few bites, nearly glowing with love and pride. You made this, for him, of your own accord. It's the best food he's had in a long time, made better by how you're clinging to him like an anxious puppy and looking away whenever he praises you.
And the surprise never wears off! Every time he comes home to warm food waiting for him his love for you grows, and he always makes sure to tell you how much he loves it. Any ingredients you need he'll buy for you immediately, as well as any kitchen items you might want. Heart shaped crockpots? A cast iron skillet? A sous vide machine? You just have to say the word and Chuuya will have it in your hands by the next day. In return he only asks for a kiss, and to be able to taste what you make when you decide to use it.
Of course, Chuuya's appreciation often shows in... different ways. Sometimes he'll walk in and see you cooking, and be so overwhelmed with affection he'll take you right then and there. Only letting you pause to turn off the stove before his hands are all over you, tongue buried in your cunt as he spreads you out on the counter. A few times he's caught you slightly bent over, decorating cookies or a cake, and you've both ended up a mess of flour and icing afterwards. He's always sweet, kissing the mess off you and carrying you to the shower, but his apologies are insincere. He always jokes about you being his little house pet, his spouse, but the way he wraps an arm around your waist and rubs your knuckles makes you very aware that he's not joking.

Last night's disappointing restaurant dinner left me full, but still hungry. Tonight I'm having a homemade meal. I know I will not be hungry later tonight.
I did the heavy lifting by putting a pork tenderloin into the sous vide for about three hours.
Sheila is only making a chimichurri sauce from scratch. She also has prepared red potatoes and bacon which is now roasting in the oven. When those are done she will sear the pork. None of that takes three hours.
The pre-dinner beer I'm enjoying is courtesy of Sheila. She found Surly's annual "Darkness" the other day and bought one for me. Here is Surly's description of 2023 Darkness:
Our massive Russian Imperial Stout contains waves of chocolate, coffee, cherry, and toffee, plus a non-traditional dose of aromatic hops.
A "massive" imperial stout is an excellent beer to have (just one) on a cool, late-autumn evening while waiting for one's wife to sear the pork roast.
Like my favorite wines this Surly Darkness comes packaged in a cardboard box. It's not exactly the same: You only get 16 ounces of stout versus three liters of boxed wine.
Or litres, as I like to write when I buy my French wines in this manner.

I bulk cooked and are leftovers all week when it was basically all I could really afford in terms of time/money but now I really hate eating the same meal more than like 2 times in 3 days and spend way more on food as a result. I feel guilty sometimes even though it's within my budget, because I used to live like that just fine. But I also never make the foods I made most then, years later. I'm honestly jealous of people who never get sick of foods!
Eh, you know, people need variety, if we were meant to subsist on the same food forever we wouldn't be the brilliant omnivores we are!
We would be pandas, which would be kinda cool, but I'm glad we're not. I wouldn’t ever want someone to feel guilty for eating a wide variety of food. We’re supposed to.
I have a fairly limited range of foods I eat, and within that subset is a slightly more limited range of foods I can cook, but I am also fortunate in that I am often perfectly happy eating the same food for a couple of days in a row. Eventually I like to have a change, but generally I'll bulk-cook 2-3 different foods so I can rotate out. At the moment I've just finished eating up all the Italian Beef, so right now in the fridge are:
Tamales (beef and chicken)
Meatloaf
Hot dogs
The last of the mac and cheese
Several hardboiled eggs
There’s other stuff too, of course, but that’s the “meal” stuff. So a regular day for me might be tamale for breakfast, hardboiled egg on toast around ten, hot dog or mac and cheese (or a hot dog with a small bowl of mac and cheese) around two, meatloaf sandwich for dinner. If I’m bored with all that I always have cheese and tortillas handy, I might make a quesadilla. And I’ll just eat on that stuff for the week. When one thing runs out I’ll pull something else out of the freezer. At the moment I’m pressure-cooking some beef trimmings to make beef stock, and the last farm share gave me a beef shank which I’ve never cooked before so tonight I’m going to set up the immersion cooker and try sous-vide beef shank, which cooks at 130F for THREE DAYS which is kind of exciting.
There is possibly some neurodivergence at work here, too, in that I like familiar foods I've cooked myself and I like the routine of knowing what I'll eat without having to plan it too much. Last time I was home, mum reminded me that I would go through phases of eating the same lunch every day for months on end -- for example, when I was eight or nine I took a salami and cheese sandwich and apple slices every day. We remember this slightly differently; she remember me asking for and/or insisting on it, whereas I remember that was just...the sandwich that I got every day, and I liked it, so I ate it. I don't remember specifying it; it's possible she asked what I wanted and I just said "same as yesterday is fine" or similar. But the upshot is while I really like food and I’m not indifferent at all to flavor, I’m also completely fine cooking two pounds of meatloaf and having meatloaf every day until it’s gone. :D
