Spring Fever

On a Long Weekend, especially a sunny one, there's nothing like the delight of lounging outdoors --even more so when the lounging comes after a few hours of robust gardening! Or perhaps, there is something better, if you're also sipping a deliciously cooling Spring Fever! Happy Friday!

Ingredients (serves 3):

half a dozen well-ripe Garden Strawberries, rinsed

90 millilitres/3 fluid ounces (6 tablespoons) Elderflower Liqueur 

1 1/2 lemons

3/4 teaspoon Rose Bitters

8 ice cubes

chilled Champagne or sparkling white wine

Halve Strawberries and place them in a large shaker. Muddle them gently with a muddler, to extract their juice.

Add Elderflower Liqueur.

Thoroughly squeeze in the juice of the lemon and lemon halve.

Add Rose Bitters, then ice cubes and close shaker tightly. Shake energetically until well-chilled.

Double strain Strawberry and Elderflower Liqueur mixture into three chilled coupes or cocktail glasses.

Top with chilled Champagne.

Enjoy Spring Fever immediately! Cheers!

While working on another project with Portugal, I went off on a tangent and dabbled with this particular piece. Portugal holding various (tall, long) bottles of alcohol as a transparent or png. We have red wine, white wine, sparkling wine that might be champagne but I didn’t check, and rum for your pirate AU. They should be all Portuguese. Brand names and logos censored. All links below.

I love a Franciacorta (like the Ca’del Bosco, shown on the left). Lombardy’s answer to Chamapagne, made from similar grapes and in the traditional method. I get notes of apple turnover, yellow peaches, lemon rind (maybe a hint of preserved lemon, there’s almost a little hint of something that reminds me of goat cheese (complimentary).

This November 2023, London has held The Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championship, which is the most important of such awards in the world.

The winner of "Best Sparkling Wine 2023" was the cava (Catalan sparkling wine) Brut Nature Nu 2020 produced by the Maset cellars in the Penedès D.O. of Catalonia. Congratulations! 🥂

This cava bottle costs 12.95€ (=14.18 US$) and can be bought in shops around the world or from their website.
