Daredevil (vol. 1) #27: Mike Murdock Must Die!

SYNOPSIS:
Daredevil is searching for the Stilt-Man who had been rescued by the Masked Marauder in the previous issue. He hears a fight down below on street level and swings down only to find Spider-Man taking on three car thieves. Daredevil decides to join the fight, but Spider-Man is not impressed. He asks Spider-Man if he has seen Stilt-Man but is told, by Spider-Man, to get lost.
Meanwhile the action switches to the Masked Marauder's secret hilltop hideout where the Masked Marauder shows the Stilt-Man his force field that is around his helicopter to convince the Stilt-Man to team up with him. Stilt-Man decides to join forces, because the Masked Marauder has a plan believing there to be a connection between Daredevil and the staff of the Nelson and Murdock Law firm. Shortly after sunset Stilt-Man rises to the window of Nelson and Murdock and throws in one of the Masked Marauder's sleeping gas pellets incapacitating the occupants (Matt Murdock, Foggy Nelson and Karen Page) inside. Stilt-Man then waits for the Masked Marauder to come pick him and their hostages up. Once everyone is safely aboard the helicopter the Masked Marauder activates the force field again. The Super-villains then wait for Daredevil to turn up or until their captives reveal his identity. Matt Murdock decides to reveal that his twin brother Mike Murdock is in fact Daredevil.
After this information, the Masked Marauder takes the Helicopter close to the ground so that the Stilt-Man can search for Mike Murdock. Stilt-Man's first port of call is a phone booth to search for the home address of Mike Murdock but finds there is none listed for that name. He then decides to break into a jewelry store in order to bring Daredevil out but instead Spider-Man spots and attacks him. He tries to extend his legs high up to get away, but Spider-Man manages to get some punches in.
Back on the helicopter the Masked Marauder decides that he no longer needs his hostages. He will push them out of the helicopter and starts with Matt Murdock, who head butts him back, which in turn knocks the force field around the Helicopter off. Matt Murdock escapes and quickly changes into his guise of Daredevil. In the meantime, thinking Matt is falling to his death, Karen attacks the Masked Marauder almost coming close to falling out of the helicopter herself. Fortunately Daredevil swings in and lands some punches on the evil doer.
In the ensuing fight, the Masked Marauder falls back on another control switch releasing the automatic pilot making the helicopter spin out of control. Foggy then calls out for Daredevil to grab the controls, but the Masked Marauder attacks him again. The Marauder reveals that he knows who Daredevil is, which in turn makes Daredevil reveal the Marauder as the law firm's landlord Frank Farnum. Once revealed Farnum gets Karen Page to remove his mask and reactivates the force field. Daredevil manages to clip him knocking him out of the helicopter and to his seemingly disintegration in the force field. This leaves Daredevil to say he'll never menace them again.
Down below Spider-Man is still fighting the Stilt-Man. Stilt-Man throws some stun gas at Spider-Man and attempts to get back to the helicopter. Soon at the helicopter he spots Daredevil and pulls a ray gun out. He fires the gun, but because he is standing in the water it causes his electrical systems, in his armor, to short out leaving him to shrink back to normal size and floating in the water. Daredevil leaves him for the police to haul him out because it has been a busy day for him.

I've been browsing AO3 for hours and stumbled upon a few AUs where a character becomes Spider-Man. I quite enjoy these types of AUs because of the endless story possibilities, considering Spider-Man has a vast array of villains. The best ones I found were where Remus and James were Spider-Man. But I'm here to pitch an even stranger idea: what if Peter Pettigrew were Spider-Man? I mean, the guy is a coward, and I think that would make for a great story opportunity – someone as cowardly as Peter becoming Spider-Man, someone who clearly lacks a moral compass at first. And here's where I think Peter would urgently need the death of someone as significant to him as Uncle Ben was to Peter Parker. It couldn't be any of the Marauders because Peter holds them in a strange kind of pedestal, so the death of any of them might scare him more than give him the push he needs to do good.
So, hypothetically, a character not mentioned in canon could be used: Peter Pettigrew's father. Now, listen, Peter definitely wouldn't use his powers for good at first. I'd bet Peter would use them to steal some small things from stores – these kinds of things would give him some self-confidence, which we know Peter definitely lacked. So Peter's father discovers this, and he and Peter argue. Peter runs away from home, and his father goes after him (similar to what happens in Andrew Garfield's movie). Peter's father encounters the thief Peter just let go and is shot dead. Peter wants revenge because now he has these powers, and that's what he always wanted – now he's more powerful than anyone, and he wants to find the man who took his father from him.
I think his origin as Spider-Man would definitely be much more violent since it would be for entirely selfish reasons, but I also like to think that with the help of the Marauders, they could help him take a better path, especially James. I think he could definitely have a great influence on Peter's morality.
I also like to think that Peter would still be the same shy and kind boy but definitely much less willing to take any kind of mockery, especially after what happened to his father. As Spider-Man, he would be much more himself, as if wearing the mask eliminates that little fear of what others might say.
Lastly, I don't think Peter would be smart enough to create web shooters, so I actually think if I ever write this, I'd give him natural webs like Tobey McGuire's Spider-Man.
The opinions don't matter to me, but please, if you're going to spread hate about Peter Pettigrew, just don't comment. This is an AU, so we're completely taking into account the canonical personality of the character.

fiona gallagher — shameless.
peter parker (andrew's version) — the amazing spider-man.
neil perry — dead poets society.
CHARACTERIZATION
Toulouse has a lot going on in that pretty little head of his. He's always said he thrives in chaos, doing his best work when there are no rules to follow and he can jump back and forth between tasks, but right now he's just lost in it all. There are roles he fulfills for others and some he plays at for himself. A roulette of masks he's grown accustomed to over the years. Yet, he feels as though he has failed each and every one of them. When his father left and his mother finally went after her ambitions, Toulouse was left to pick up the pieces of their family. To hold everything together and ensure his siblings were taken care of. He pushed aside his own dreams for everyone else and now that it doesn't seem like they need him, he's begun to spiral. Who is he, if his identity is no longer centered around being a dutiful son or a dependable brother? It's been so long since he last felt inspired to paint, and the friends he's made since arriving in Evermore are far and few between. Toulouse has always been a 'fake it till you make it' type of guy, but what if that doesn't cut it anymore?
HEADCANONS
He frequently struggles to fall asleep, and at this point it seems like melatonin doesn't work on him anymore. Thus, coffee is a must throughout the day. He has a whole coffee station setup at home with syrups and beans galore, but having someone else make him a cup is still always nice. You can often catch him grabbing an iced drink from a nearby cafe in the afternoons.
Although he might not be painting much anymore, he's still a fairly creative person. His wardrobe pulls from a number of different styles and he enjoys experimenting with aesthetics. The one constant is that his hair is always a mess, though. Between running his hand through it every other minute and a degree of natural unruliness, you'll never see him without a few locks out of place.
In his youth he was far more playful and free-spirited, enjoying messing with his siblings and playing the occasional prank. He might still tease Marie from time to time, but otherwise it feels like that feisty spark of his was smothered a long time ago. That doesn't mean he can't be tempted by a bit of mischief, however. Toulouse can sometimes get caught up in the thrill/adrenaline of the moment without realizing it.
He does a great deal of photography, but it's not something he's ever considered pursing professionally. More than anything, it's just a way of physically capturing memories of the people and places he loves. Film is far superior to digital in his opinion, and he usually goes to get his photos developed once a month or so.
Toulouse often wishes whatever mysterious force that brought his family to Evermore had taken the memories of their old life like so many others in town. As the eldest sibling, he has more memories of their father. He remembers all the fights and every time he wasn't there for them until the one day he was gone for good.

The tussle between Daredevil and Spider-Man continues, but DD comes up with a plan to turn the tables on the Masked Marauder. Would have been a fine issue if it wasn't for the repetitive annoyance of the love triangle.

18+ 1v1 Rps on Discord
Hey. Sorry that I haven't been on. I have been dealing with a lot of crap and I've been in a low place. But I'm back for some roleplaying. This will include lots of strong sexual themes, some bloody violence, some bondage, strong cursing, strong romantic themes, some alcohol consumption, abusive pasts, etc.
I don't have many rules/regulations, but please make sure you follow these.
I only play ocs. I mostly play females but I can play male characters, just not as well. I usually do gxg or gxb but I can do bxb.
I am a literate person so I would prefer it if you could do at least 2-3 lines. The bigger, the better.
A lot of these characters I have past backstories that I have prewritten. If you don't like that, please don't mention it to me and not join. I am very passionate about my characters.
This is mainly a srp 1v1 scenario thing, but if you would like to do a small group, let me know.
Here's the list. It's rather long. Please pick one and I will send the notes/backstory and starter to you.

Spider-Man Read-Through 048: First Carrion (SSM 25-31)
MASTERPOST
Today's program: an intriguing villain, Daredevil, White Tiger, and the Maggia!
Tumblr media
Who could it be?
Our batch opens with a new villain, Carrion, telling M, the Maggia leader, that he'll beat Spidey, since our dear hero has been a thorn in their side for a while now.
A lot of things to note: Carrion has a great design, like a zombified Green Goblin. I'm into that. He also seems quite supernaturally powerful. It's intriguing! The Maggia poses no threat to him, apparently, and he supposedly knows a lot of their secrets. Hmm! Does someone we know hide beneath his mask?
Tumblr media
Pretty panels!
Meanwhile, Spidey delivers us his monthly "Aunt May is in the hospital" line (which should soon become "she's alone in a rest home") while pondering on the meaning of his life, and White Tiger fights thugs and is confronted to the fact that life isn't so black and white.
Eventually, Spidey comes to fight with the Maggia, encounters a birdrone that transforms into an android (Tri-Man), just as the Caped Marauder taunts him and makes him blind. Phew! A lot happened, and yet, we're already at the end of the issue.
#26 time! The leader of the Maggia escapes, the police blames Spidey for the money they stole, and Spidey's eyes aren't fixed yet!
Betty and MJ stumble upon each other at Peter's building, but a surprise awaits them...
Tumblr media
What a fun twist! Very Green Goblin-ish.
It's time for Daredevil and White Tiger to enter the scene! Daredevil is investigating the Maggia's latest acts, and WT's sister lashes out at him. Yes, how spineless to be a hero vigilante!
Spidey encounters Daredevil, who saves him in extremis.
Two things to note:
those issues are quite... decompressed. Not much happens in each of them!
this is the first time, I think, that we see Spidey stutter, and regularly at that. It feels weird, and I assume that's just the writer's style, but it's kind of jarring.
Anyway, time for #27!
Daredevil keeps trying to help Spider-Man, who's evidently kind of a dumbass in his obstinacy. They're also quite gay together, so that's at least that. Eventually, Daredevil invites Spidey to his home and calls the doctor for him.
Tumblr media
I do understand, because the security aspect is quite comforting.
Tumblr media
Aaaah, this is juicy! I like how horrific the scene is, but I wish it had more time to breathe.
The visit to the doctor doesn't go so well, and Peter keeps having dark thoughts, and I've been over this for a while now. Daredevil kind of thinks the same.
M's secret plan is to blackmail New York's mayor.
Tumblr media
It doesn't go as anticipated because the mayor is done with everybody's crap. Good for him!
M still informs him that Tri-Man can also turn into a bomb more dangerous than Hiroshima and Nagasaki's, which is telling in how completely bonkers the idea is.
The issue ends with Daredevil fighting M's goons and Spidey falling off a window.
In the reader's letters, David Minson from Tulsa asks where scrawny Peter has gone. Honey, Peter hasn't been scrawny for about 15 years. He stopped being scrawny pretty early in Ditko's run!
People seem to also appreciate Hector Ayala quite a bit, which I appreciate, but we saw with the Prowler that it doesn't guarantee anybody's longevity.
In #28, Daredevil and Spidey keep being a good team.
Tumblr media
Spidey even successfully disarms the bomb, good for him (and the entire NY population).
Everything ends well, and Spidey miraculously retrieves his sight before it can affect ASM. How lucky!
In Chelsea, Peter's friends are worried about his safety.
Tumblr media
So who could it be? The dead walk...
Somebody who died...
Oh, is it a clone thing? It's a clone thing, isn't it? And the "Parker" moniker... Do you know who was linked to cloning and called Peter by his surname?
The Jackal. Hmm...! Did he clone himself? The costume would be reminiscent for sure.
Peter comes back to everyone's relief.
Tumblr media
Hector tries to subtly convince him to go gay, and Peter accepts. Sorry, girls!
En route to join Hector, Peter wonders if his enemy could be Harry, but I frankly doubt it. There's not much build-up for that.
Tumblr media
The Jackal had that scare factor, and he did have a link to the Maggia. I'd love to see Harry's handsome therapist again, but I doubt it will be him.
Carrion and Peter fight it out, but Holly Gillis arrives to apologize to Hector, and she turns the light on, which blinds Peter.
Tumblr media
Definitely has to be the Jackal.
Although now that I think about it, "ashes to ashes' could mean that it's link to that time Peter threw his clone in a fire.
But the Jackal was blown up, so it would still fit.
In #29, the fight rages on and Carrion says Peter killed his friends. Uh. I don't know where we're going to this.
The White Tiger wakes up and goes to help Peter while the yellow narrative boxes confirm my feeling that Holly might very well die soon.
Tumblr media
Peter's alright, but Carrion escapes. It gives them a moment to be gay with each other.
Hector brings him to the hospital for a quick check-up, then Peter says that Carrion feels familiar to him, and linked to the university.
So it's the Jackal.
Tumblr media
What. He looks a bit like Antonin Serba, but. What.
Turns out Randy Vale helps Carrion. How, I don't know yet.
Peter's friends have cleaned his room, that's nice of them!
Hector follows Peter to check on him, but he gets attacked by a flying henchman of Carrion, Darter. What's happening here?
Peter's Spider-Sense doesn't react when Carrion attacks him again. Another Jackal clue!
Carrion taunts him by saying that he failed university by just a credit missing, which is really weird. "Cripes! How do you fight a villain who throws your report card at you?" Spidey judiciously ponders.
Becoming quite angry, Carrion says "You murdered them both, by fall and by fire" so yeah, it's the Jackal who's angry that Peter "killed" Gwen and destroyed his own clone. To be fair, I'd be angry too because that technology might have been truly spectacular.
Suddenly, Darter and WT dart in the gym.
Tumblr media
...Okay, so it's for Professor Warren, not his clone. Okay, sure.
To which, Spidey replies in the next issue (30), "I was right, you ARE a psycho!" which is kind of funny.
At last, the truth comes out...
Tumblr media
Yeah, I figured that much. I have to say, Carrion's monologue goes on for pages, but it's really good. Check it out if you're curious, it's fun.
In the reader's letters, the Hypnomaster's issue was contentious. "The art, too, was wonderful. In a few places, I could almost recognize who the people were supposed to be. In short, this issue was one big flop," says Beppe Sabatini.
So how did Carrion know all of this?
"Telepathy, you witless fool", he tells us in #31. Oh, of course!
You know, this is very reminiscent of the ASM #39-40 confrontation with the Green Goblin, Peter strapped with his face revealed while the evil guy explains everything. I like it.
Turns out Warren put some of his DNA in a secret cloning casket, but the clone died and kept reviving in it. Vale (who would become Darter) helped him (to not die) and voilà.
The interesting information is that while Peter slept, Carrion took his DNA and I guess created another clone of him. All of his power, none of his humanity. Is this how Ben Reilly was born?
Tumblr media
I know I shouldn't make a joke, so I won't, but be aware that it was very tempting.
This proto-Peter Parker's about to mate with him when Vale arrives, shoots at it while trying to get rid of Carrion, and proceeds to die.
Tumblr media
What a way to go.
White Tiger arrives too and accidentally sets the lab ablaze. What ends up devouring Carrion is his own creation.
WT and Spidey escape, but as for the other two, they don't have so much luck.
Tumblr media
So I guess this is NOT Ben Reilly's origin. How mysterious! How intriguing!
Overall, the saga was fine. I really dug Carrion's design, and mostly enjoyed his scenes, but there was a lot of padding, and Peter's behavior while temporary blind was aggravating. The story was interesting, but not much happened in these 7 (!) issues. The original clone saga and the 2nd and 3rd Green Goblin arcs were better-paced as well. Not sure this is going to be featured in my recommended post.

Daredevil (vol. 1) #23: DD Goes Wild!
Read Date: June 10, 2022 Cover Date: December 1966 ● Writer: Stan Lee  ● Penciller: Gene Colan  ● Inker: Frank Giacoia ◦ Dick Ayers ● Colorist: {uncredited} ● Letterer: Sam Rosen ● Editor: Stan Lee ●
Tumblr media
SYNOPSIS:
Daredevil was forced to fight the Masked Marauder and Gladiator's Tri-Man (in order to secure leadership in the Maggia), however, Daredevil managed to defeat their creation and follow its teleporter back to their base. There, Daredevil fights alone against the three men who's abilities were templated for the Tri-Man (The Mangler, The Brain, and The Dancer) and the Gladiator.
While this battle is going on, the Masked Marauder broadcasts video from the battle to the Maggia so that they can see the Marauder's triumph over Daredevil, in hopes that DD's defeat will secure his role as the crime cartel's leader. However, Daredevil manages to defeat all attackers, including a lion that is turned upon him and escapes. In the aftermath, the Masked Marauder's membership bid is denied and the Maggia, liking the Gladiator's style, take him into their group.
