ima be real with you, spring is my least fav season. which makes sense since summer, winter, and autumn are all respectively my favs, but, like, I still don't really like it tho :/ I think it's because there isn't really much going for it? at least as a white folk in the USA, cuz I know some other cultures keep spring dear to their heart, but where i'm from, it's usually just rain, flowers, and baby animals, which is nice, but it isn't as well established as the other seasons. winter? snow! and Christmas! and baking cookies while watching movies with family! summer? awesome! get to be on break, go to the pool, and do more fun stuff! autumn? perfect weather! looks LOVELY! and can't forget about family time and Halloween! and then spring is summer's little sibling, but worse :(((

With the Winter 2025 anime season ending soon, it's time to look at what the Spring 2025 season has to offer and what shows I'll most likely be checking out! This season is looking to be both a strong one and a weird one...

We've got a handful of major sequels mixed in with a ton of new series including the requisite girl band anime, new works from several major mangaka, an anime adaptation of a major fighting game series, a spiritual successor to a major magical girl toku series and a new adaptation of an anime series from the 70s (that itself is based on a books series from the early 1900s) just to name a few.

Continuations:

I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level S2

I remember having some issue with the pacing of the first season when I watched it… 4 years ago (2021 feels like an eternity ago…)? but yeah I'm down for more "immortal witch collects large harem of girlfriends and daughters" the anime. That being said, it does have completely different people working on it compared to season 1 including a brand new studio (Teddy) behind so there's a whole lot of unknowns in terms of quality going into this season.

For Sure:

Princess-Session Orchestra (Princession Orchestra)

"Singing magical girl toku series from the Symphogear creator" Done, you don't need to say anything more. I'm completely sold…. I've already listened to the four tracks they've dropped early for the last month… Please… I need my singing toku magical girl back…

Rock is a Lady's Modesty

"What if marimite but instead of trading crosses, they're having angry jam session" Class S + girl bands is an excellent combo and all here for it!

Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers

The old joke that Guilty Gear is a rock album that happens to be packaged with a fighting game and anime has come half circle with an anime to a fighting game… that will probably just be a glorified series of music videos if we're being honest.

Ninja and Assassin Living Together (Ninkoro)

"Ninja x Assassin comedy" yeah okay that sounds fine, I'm in.

Anne Shirley (2025)

You know… I don't think I've ever actually picked up anything related to Anne of the Green Gables before? So yeah, you know what, maybe picking up a new anime adaption of an anime adaption from the 70s of a book series from 1908 is the best place to start.

The Catcher in the Ballpark!

"Romcom about the various miscellaneous employees working various jobs at a baseball stadium". Could be fun, the gyaru beer seller chick is cute. Could be worth checking out.

Recently went for dinner at a Chinese place where we'd only ever had lunch. Turns out it's slightly fancy and nighttime is course menu only. We said sure! They proceeded to cover the table with so many delicious seasonal dishes that I thought I was going to have to roll home. Oops!

Potatoes with chili crisp, Sichuan boiled peanuts, spicy chilled chicken with peanuts and cilantro, young bamboo and green beans in Sichuan peppercorns, spring cabbage and potatoes with firefly squid, black vinegar pork in a sea of delicious ooze, and of course, mabo tofu. And to finish, a very very jiggly almond tofu! Look!
