I think big issue rw/by has just as a show is it being confused with its own identity. It wants to say it's a feel-good shounen-esque good vs evil hopepunk love triumphs all story but at the same time it desperately keeps wanting to put its characters into moral quandaries with no clear correct answer.
So you end up with weird situations like with ironwood and the white fang where a character makes a decision to do something and the story seems to be trying to convince you that was the Wrong decision and Evil and Bad while you as the viewer is left there going is it really? Is it?
It wants to be mob psycho but it can't help but ask questions like "hey do you think extremist groups are okay when it comes to minorities asking for equality? and would the minorities being catgirls change anything" and I'm over here with my popcorn and anime theme song going I dunno man, I just work here please leave me alone
#rwde#like. i think most of its problems come down to this actually. that and just being weird structurally in general#it doesn't actually want to answer the questions it asks so when word of god comes around that so and so was evil all along (cont)#(cont) you're not nodding along you're staring in horror going oh okay um god is wrong#I think it also gives team rw/by this. propagandist feel (don't take this too seriously)#idk it feels very strange for the show to constantly feature antagonists who are going to lengths to fight for their own justice and#protect their own people. only for the government sanctioned anime girl child soldiers to show up and be like. but you weren't nice about i#it's why while I do like rewrites for the fun of them I don't really fw them too much because alot of it just comes down to#individual taste and either trying to fix the vision and make things not horrifying#e.g. rewrites where adam is genuinely full on evil#or trying to answer the questions the show asks which inevitably give you a darker tone overall because. well. yeah.

Ratio isn't just socratic nor is his method just socratic. There's a lot of sophist too, with how he is paid and the Genius Society looks down on that.
#I think there's a bit of that playing there too in his concept character-wise#although yeah obviously the socratic method and arguably in general platonism are more present#With the mention and even use of maieutics‚ reductio ad absurdum‚ and the way we argue and dialogue with him to reach conclusions#The way the story with him is played by arguing with him first and then working together to reach conclusions#is so platonic-dialogue-structured‚ especially with the use of memory#Knowledge as something already in us but forgotten that we can get to if pressed with the right questions and perspectives#Very good#I'll stop before I go on about this even further. I was writing more tags than I should. I'll just delete them and stay quiet but. Yeah#I do love this man a lot#And I hate that I do xD I can't believe I'm so easy#I talk too much#Dr. Ratio#Ratio#Traces#Sorry if this appears in the tag I want to keep this idea for later on. Ignore me

(too pithy and probably incorrect about it)
One thing LLMs are not good at — not sure if getting any better, honestly — is gear-level models. Having a model at all; being able to articulate it; applying it to a situation and looking at discrepancies; having ~well-defined uncertainty; updating.
(or maybe i just can't prompt them to do that. not being a power llm user, can't speak with authority really.)
As a consequence, they are dog shit at structure-preserving morphisms. You can't transform a structure precisely enough to meaningfully reflect the original if you can't.... catch the boundaries of what's important or not? Can't check whether your correspondences of internals/pieces of 2 things are adequate if you don't, really, work with internals? If you don't or can't think of a thing as made out of pieces and nothing else? If your mental processes can't....check...whether an a : b :: c : d pattern is valid by looking at the structure/properties of abcd?
And therefore, they suck at writing, writing being at least 30% about structure-preserving morphisms.
#30% not literal#more in the sense that maxing out certain technical skills does not produce good writing at 0 structure-preserving etc skill#tbf also lots of writing i found neat does this morphism thing from.... something hidden?#smth smth a genre of good humor requires you to ~think but to see the punchline in a flash of insight#a kind of good writing does the same by giving the reader just enough hints#to see the structure eventually in a drastic emotional realization#or in a slow growing-recognition realization!#but in any case the morphism is not usually spelled out; it is observed in reader's mind#whether it's present in text is questionable#/#even if this is wrong there are verifiable predictions to be extracted!#smth like: llms will not get much better at fiction without also getting ~systematically better at debugging?#not entirely sure how to operationalize that last to avoid 'they got better at more patterns but failed to learn to do generic gears'#posts#state of art machine intelligence

How do you study history and prepare for exams? Thank you!
Hi, thank you for the question! :D I'm not totally sure if I can help you because I study art history and I haven't had to take an exam for that in five years...
If you just need to get some facts into your brain, flashcards generally work – personally I like to do mine on proper paper cards. Access to flashcard apps is sometimes limited if you use the free version and compressing information into useful bulletpoints helps me understand it better.
However, one of the most important aspects of studying in general for me is to understand how information interacts. It usually helps me to draw diagrams to really understand developments and detangle information, which is probably especially relevant for history. It also helps me really understand it rather than just repeating facts.
If you want more information from someone who's a proper history student, I would recommend @the---hermit's post on studying for history exams! :D
#mine#ask#studyblr#hope this helped a little bit#I mostly write papers atm so if you have questions about research or structure... maybe I could help with that#my methods are generally a bit chaotic tho so idk how much that would help other people lol

Also I got my essay exam back today. Full points!!! Which was a surprise bc my 4th essay was definitely lower quality than the other three (bc I rushed it), but still good enough to get full points!!!!
Makes me wonder what that other one I spied being a 1 was like 🤔🤔🤔 bro was NOT good at writing I guess.
#speculation nation#weird grading scale. each essay was rated 0 thru 3. 0 being Real Bad or just plain wrong.#1 being Okay. 2 being Good. and 3 being Excellent. according to what my professor explained.#and all the points for all 4 essays were totaled. so since i got 3s on all 4 i got 12/12 points.#but he also said it's not like percentage based for the grades. 3s earn As 2s earn Bs and 1s earn Cs. presumably.#so even if u got a 4/12 thats not failing. still not very good tho.#i realized when i was writing that it really has been a while since ive done a proper essay. im a techie not a literature student.#i do scientific reports so much more than fucking Essays.#i tried to dust off the old skills tho and i guess i did pretty good overall. tho i wonder. it feels like he was pretty lax in grading.#bc im being honest my last essay was Not Good in structure. i was rushing bigtime. i just wanted it done.#but i guess bc i answered all the questions and was generally good at diction (creative writing Does help with this)#it was still good enough to be a 3. which makes me So Curious how bad that person did to get a 1......#i only caught a peek when i was grabbing mine. couldnt look too in depth.#ALSO THO tuesday's presenter got a 7.6 As Opposed To my 8.6!!! professor gave them a 7 (as opposed to my 8)#which makes me feel a little better about how i did. (this scale out of 9 lol). bc like. i did better than them at least!!#felt a lil bad for today's presenter. she was clearly getting kind of frazzled. it rly is hard to present for an hour.#we write out critiques for every presentation. stuff we liked and stuff we didnt. unfortunately i had criticisms to give 😔#but i try to sandwich it with good things too. so it's not All bad things. i still feel bad critiquing them#but such is the review expectations. i try to at least be fair about it.#(to clarify. grades arent announced to the class. i just sit right up front near where he puts the papers and im Nosy lol)

Doodlin' in my travel notebook, trying to work out how to draw Morris's BG3 hair without him turning into Bruno from Encanto. Just for funsies while waiting for a flight, nothing pretty here.

I was so adamant when I created him that his features weren't long and rat-like because that would be clichéd. Now: SO LONG VERY POINTY
#druid pol morris#the cleric in question belongs to someone else in my d&d group#morris doesn't dislike clerics generally#(unlike druids)#1 is basically a squiggle but I kinda like that it looks as if he's wrapped in a blanket cuddling the rat he just saved from poison#5 is his very tranquil and composed reaction to illithid infection#also got one of him playing with a rat but I kinda want to draw that properly one day#I need to get back into practice with actually trying to draw facial structure rather than a pointy sort of circle :/

KRENKY I DIDNT KNOW YOU LIKE HISTORICAL FASHION TOO!?!
YES!!! :D
I really enjoy social history of all sorts, and historical fashion is a major focus of that interest! I LOVE looking at the common garments and silhouettes of different eras and areas, and the techniques and industries that were used to make them. and also the related hair styling and makeup of different times and places!
and it sounds like you're interested in historical fashion as well? :D
#krenenbaker's questions#I also love looking at different histories of family structures; gender; sexuality; food/cuisine; work and industry; art; literature...#just social history in general is FANTASTIC#saki✧🌊

The autistic urge to identify and comment every song that isnt properly credited in a tiktok just in case someone wats to listen to the whole thing instead of like 15 seconds of it
#stifled only by not knowing whether said song is niche enough to warrant this behavior#like. ill assume people know about mockingbird by eminem but who is she by i monster? do people know i monster?#one of their songs played over the credits on an episode of severance as well as an h&m commercial just recently but#do people Know i monster?#how well do people generally know Gorillaz? the broader public is definitely aware of some of their music but O Green World?#i know it was a trend but is it Known as a Song or known as Sounds?#also Cudi. a clip from Day N Nite was a trend for a while there. did people listen to the song after finding it? is the info available?#i think people are generally familiar with Pursuit of Happiness and Soundtrack 2 My Life but do they know Ashin Kusher?#would they like to?#these are the questions that bug me as a deeper fan of semi-obscure artists.#like. obviously people know (some of) the artists but would they be able to connect the snippets of music with those artists?#the whole structure of tiktok audio culture messes with my head in a way im having trouble describing#even here in the tags where my thought faculties live#i think its something i get from my dad. the need to share music and Know what song is playing#sprinkle in a little musical trivia and we got ourselves an autism or two

What you think of wikidots? It was/is the host mogaipedia and genderpedia
I think Wikidot is a good host !! I like that you get 300 MB for free and that the file upload limit on a free account is 25 MB ( I wouldn't be using the wiki as a place to get high-quality files, just info and links ) I'll have to get adjusted to a non-mediawiki environment but I think this is probably the easiest option.
I guess the next steps would be deciding on a name, finding people I know and trust to help me make articles, and putting out a call to LIOMOGAI creators who'd like / be okay with their flags / symbols to be archived on an external site.
#iso.ask#also the general structure of articles / formatting and categories but there's already examples for things like that#due to the nature of a wiki i might make some kind of separate account from this one to talk about it or let people ask admin questions

good luck w the testing and a happy early new year!!
thank you it's already happened when this was sent but we all did get one free point for the listening section bc the audio fucked up and we didn't get to hear the part with the last question's answer. but I will now think this is luck borrowed from the future when this ask was sent
#bakuspeech#ask#I tweeted a storm inbetween the written competencies (morning) and the speaking test (afternoon) lmao#but its on my wretched personal acc so it's for me. it's just for me#I dressed. and this is not me being unkind to myself. like a mister bean character to that test. like I got a woolen suit jacket on#with the dress shoes of mismatched laces. AND Ive been bald recently#honest to gods can Not tell how well I did in the written tests. like I finished all of them with at least ten minutes to spare#but it's because they kept putting a giant timer on the projector screen and it scared me so bad. delf trauma#the content of the test itself I straight up. dont know if its any good#the thing with me. that u can probably tell by idk looking at me and hearing me talk and stuff. is that I speak english but I am#VERY bad at tests#which makes any formalized english testing for me extremely fucking funny#and like it's supposed to be in the same structure as an ielts set of questions and apparently that means#they kept asking me to confirm or deny that the author of the text agrees with the statements they got in the questions#and I was sitting there like okay you made me read about weird phrenology shit and then you ask me this?? like are we asking#textual or contextual or. how deep into the rhetorics are we talking here. cause two of these three authors are certified weirdos#(yes the reading segment had three texts. one was about physiognomy and how there was definitely a grain of truth in there#one was about tea - this is the inconspicuous one - and the last one was about the potentials of toxinology#with a general vibe of pseudomedicine zeal to its writing. it's probs from a family magazine or something)#so straight up yeah I can defend my quiz answers to a judge but that does Not mean it's gonna be the one on the answer sheet yknow#kinda the same with the writing segment. where like they gave me an extremely easy to expand on subject and then a piece of paper#the length of a receipt. and that just. I could NOT parse the expectation of that setup#like I saw that and was like. so do you want me to do it badly? or do it so excellently I deliver all I think in like 100 words or less?#cause I'm capable of one of those things and the distinction is important here#and like. yes I know it's a language aptitude test. they're looking to know if I speak english#and I Have done something like this before multiple times just with a different language. but that was. idk I have never had a ladder here#I know I speak the language. YOU can probably tell I speak the language. would this test's result reflect that? I don't know!#it's a baffling experience. I'm still thinking about it the day after. tldr it's really not about the english for me it's about the testing#it's so. it's reflected so clear in the listening test where I missed an entire question (other than the one they gave us for free) bc#my brain just noped out of my body for three seconds and when I yanked it back the tape's already moved on

in education at least there's also "the point is for you to develop skills so that you can apply those skills in important real-life situations, so by avoiding developing those skills you may be shooting yourself in the foot" which I sometimes see treated like it's another shitty "convenience is morally wrong" argument when it really isn't.
convenience is great in a lot of cases. google translate and similar translation programs, for example, are super useful. but if you take a french course and decide "using google translate instead of doing the work myself will make this so much easier!" then all you've done is refuse to learn french.
every time i see a post about not using chatgpt or other LLMs for work/school that boils down to 'convenience is morally wrong and desiring it degrades the entire human race' rather than 'these things fabricate details and are not reliable tools for synthesizing information' i lose another year off of my life
#I see this most in students talking about using llms to generate essays for them#the point of essay assignments is for you to learn to think critically about complex topics and create nuanced effective arguments#you're supposed to be learning how to structure your points and make hooks and answer questions before they're asked etc etc#convenience is good. that's why they're not making you etch your essays into clay tablets. but there's a good reason to write them yourself#and that reason is more than 'llms fabricate false information' (which would be a good enough reason on its own to not use them for this!)

Been thinking a lot about how to format sevsun, cause like.... it's def a series (I say having yet to write 1 (one) book) but how should I do it?
Like should I move forward as a more western series or would an OELN be better? Mostly it's about how much goes into one book and thus the structure of each book. I just genuinely don't know which would serve me better ^^;
Like naritively, I know sevsun is looooooooooong and is more based in an LN way of doing things, but I'm also more familiar w a western book layout/stucture as I've read more of those. Decisions decisions....
Frankly it's hard to find any resources of how one should structure a series :/
#writing questions#OELNs intrique me#but its so hard to find useful info on the topic#even more so than series generally#ig a lots assumed that its a space youd be familiar with if your writing in it#but nope!#mostly coning over t it from anime :p#ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh#structure is important but also it kills me
