Day 3: Chill
Subnautica au! Mer sun and Moon, they/them for insert, cuddles
I've been reading not enough subnautica aus, so i went a little feral. you know what thing where someone puts their cold feet or hands on their partner? Ya thats Moon. Anywhos
The base was frozen. That was the only explanation that came to mind as they groggily slipped into awareness, some logical part in the back of their brain knew they should get up and find whatever faulty wire had let the temperature drop so low, but they would be damned if they crawled out of the warm bubble of their blankets. Groggily they poked their head out, snatching up their datapad before diving back under to ignore the freeze that nipped their ears.
It didn’t give them anything helpful, chiming off that they needed to conserve heat while looking through the paneling with their scanner. That sounded like an activity for someone not in their undersuit, preferably one with thick slippers. And maybe a hat.
With what could only be described as the world's most tortured groan they rose, stumbling towards their wetsuit as they clung to the blankets last bit of warmth. Their feet were already frozen by the time they slipped it on, going as far as to wear the flippers to avoid frostbite.
“I knew I should’ve stayed in the shallows.” They grumbled halfheartedly. They knew they needed to get deeper, and the rocky cliff they were clinging to was the easiest way down to the river, but hell if they didn’t miss the warm waters of the shallows. Something distant splashed up in the moonpool, a quiet rumble soothing their concerns. They frowned and shivered as they scanned the bedroom, moving down the hall to meet Moon who was, as usual, tracking water through the base.
“Rude.” They grumbled, ignoring his purr that turned into a little coo. He shuffled in front of their scanner as it buzzed, looming up to stare at their face. “Ya stinker?” He frowned and stuck out his tongue, though it didn’t last long. Instead he placed his hand over their head, which made them pull back from the chill of the water that clung to his skin.
“Hurt?” He whined, beginning to nose under their blanket cape for a wound.
“No, not hurt. Just cold.” He frowned, clicking over the word a few times as he circled them. “Cold, like not warm. Shallows are warm, down here is cold.” He chuffed, his tail wetly slapping the floor as he stared at them. “You’re also cold.”
“Cold… Bad?” He frowned.
“Not necessarily. It’s only bad if it's too cold.” They gestured to the room, scanning the wall again. “I gotta find whatevers making my base cold and fix it.” Moon hummed, following them for a bit before piping back up.
“I’ll be back. Get Sun.” They hummed a goodbye, sighing as the scan came up clean yet again. It wasn’t life threatening by any means, they were dry enough, but the combination of flippers and blanket cape made getting around the space difficult. They managed to get through the green house, after fretting over all the plants, and into the moonpool by the time their companions came back. Sun skittered towards them immediately, stopped only by Moon tugging his tail back.
“Wet.” He chided, pulling up to the opposite wall to shake off.
“Oh NOW you respect my wishes.” They snorted, teeth chattering as they shook. It was even worse in here. The scan relieved their greatest worries, the insulation in the left wall was soaked. They pulled off their blanket and prepared to dive in to patch the hull, stopped by Sunny’s warm hands on their neck.
“Cold??” He fretted, purring as they leaned into his hands. Despite the dampness they could feel the heat coming back to his skin.
“Ya, I gotta fix the outside before it’ll warm up again.” They hummed, content to just stay there in Sun’s grasp to soak up the heat. Sun seemed pretty content with that plan too, pulling them back as Moon snatched up their scanner.
“I'll fix.” He grumbled, clicking the button repeatedly and staring at the little laser grid it lit on the floor.
“You don’t know how.” He rolled his eyes.
“Get rock, point, fix.” Okay, maybe he did know. Props to Alterra for making tech so easy they supposed.
“Only because you’re so nice.” They taunted, trying to tighten their jaw to keep their teeth from clacking. Sun quickly scooped them and the blanket up, carrying them deeper into the base as Moon sank below the water. They didn’t protest when he removed their flippers, wrapping them both in the blanket to lay on the bed. They could feel his heartbeat under his scales, coursing warmth through his limbs as he rubbed little circles on their back.
“Better?” They sighed, snuggling a bit closer to warm their nose.
“Mmhm…” They mumbled, suddenly much sleepier. Their datapad beeped as Moon resurfaced, clamoring into the room with a wet shake.
“Fix. When warm?”
“Mm…” They squinted at the pad. “An hour or two.” Moon seemed annoyed with the answer, Sun chose to snuggle closer instead.
“I'm warm.” He purred, seemingly pleased with the situation at hand.
“Yep, very warm.” They snorted, giggling as Moon whined at the foot of the bed. “Why are you pouting?” They taunted, pulling away to get a better look. Moon growled softly, his lure wagging.
“... Cold.” He mumbled, eyeing the bed and Sun with clear jealousy. Sun clicked something and pulled them a little tighter, eyeing his still damp skin.
“You can come warm up if you dry off-” They didn’t get to finish their request before he was scampering off and rubbing himself on the towels. He returned even quicker, leaping into bed rough enough to make it bounce. They were glad they opted for the two person size, even then it was squished with two mers around them. At least the blanket stopped Moon’s chill from leaching their heat. Moon purred quietly, curling his tail around their form and over Sun’s back, wiggling down into the blankets quickly.
“Cold!!” Sun squeaked, pressing even closer to the human sandwich in the middle as Moon cackled.
“Warm.”

Okay so:
Garroth - mood god
Laurence - sun god (used to be a star, metamorphosis happened when the previous sun god died. Was severely burned for awhile and hid in the underworld while he healed)
Levin - a star (Garroth takes care of him, but Laurence usually hangs around the night domain to help since he likes all the starkids)
Vylad - Grim Shepard (psychopomp for animals)
Gene - chthonic storm/sea god (torments the humans with storms when his brother goes missing)
Dante - god of rivers and streams (got lost in the underworld, ate half a peach he picked, Zane doesn’t stop him in time so he ends up having to spend half the year there with him)
Zane - god of death (tried to lead Dante out of the underworld to cease Gene’s hurricanes, made him a room in the palace)
Cadenza - volcano god
Zenix - god of the hunt and death (hands off animal souls to Vylad)
Interesting choices! (/posi)

Chapter after the cut!!
A Piece of Mind
After cleaning the horrid mess that was the Daycare (how in the world could it get so messy so fast? Or had it always been that way?), you pushed your cleaning cart through the Daycare doors. It had taken you a rather long time to even open the doors back up, especially considering the fact that you had foolishly let them close when Freddy had helped you.
Eventually, though, you exit the Daycare, and head to Parts and Service after emptying your cleaning cart. Unsurprisingly, the Janitor's closet was tucked away into a small space in the corner. Quite an interesting design choice, if you did say so yourself. After putting it away, you turned to leave, before you heard Joey call your name.
"[Y/N]! Wait up!" He said, walking up to you, slightly jogging. You turned to face him, and he smiled. It was almost creepy at first, but once he noticed your look, it faded to something more friendly.
"It's getting late, and your shift ends soon. Forget about meeting everyone, you'll run into them eventually. Go get some rest." You stood there, almost shell-shocked. There was no way that he was letting you off early, right?
"But-" You started to protest, but he interrupted.
"No, no. It's your first day. You're probably already worn out. If I were you, I wouldn't want to tire myself out even more with a bunch of social interaction. Seriously. At least take a break."
Now you were really shocked. Then again, you weren't exactly one to pass up an offer like that. No way in hell.
"Well, alright then, if you insist." You laughed nervously, before thanking him, grabbing your jacket, and heading out. If only your previous coworkers in other jobs had been this nice. Burnout wasn't exactly a friend of yours, and you really appreciated this from someone. It was rather surprising, but..
nice?
You were suddenly pretty sure that you were actually going to like it here.
---
You woke up to a blaring alarm (or what would be, you only felt the vibration of your phone, which you kept under your pillow. You hated to sleep with your hearing aids in, so this was the best you could do), and you fumbled for your phone to turn it off. You debated just turning it off, but you had things to do today.
..Or maybe not, the warm comforts of your bed almost lulled you back to slee-
No, no. You needed to get things done before work. Which, unsurprisingly, today your hours were almost exactly polar opposite from yesterday's. At least you had the hope of maybe seeing the Daycare Attendants. Just maybe. If you were lucky.
With the last ounce of this morning's free will wasted, you pushed yourself out of bed. You had to eat breakfast and.. No, never mind, you weren't hungry. And what?
How lovely, you'd forgotten what you needed to do, you thought, as you put in your hearing aids.
Again.
For the millionth time.
You looked over to your nightstand. You distinctly remember writing yourself a note. You filed through all of the little things that lay there, until you found it. As you read over the list, you were suddenly tired again. There was so much. You really didn’t want to, but you knew you needed to. You were reminded even more of that as you heard a knock on your door.
“[Y/N], you good? Your alarm went off half an hour ago-“The voice, you could immediately tell, was your roommate.
“I’m fine,” you said, yawning as you opened the door. “Hello to you too, Parker.”
“Jeez, dude, did you even sleep-?” They asked, tilting their head to the side. Their pretty blue-and-brown sunflower eyes glinted in the morning sun as they ran a hand through their dark brown hair.
“Yeah, why-?” You questioned back, humming quietly as you turned around and walked back into your room. Might as well start on the huge mess while having some idle conversation. After all, that always seemed to help you. Keeping yourself preoccupied while you did other things was a productive measure that you always tried to take, but usually no one was actually available when you were (which was almost every day).
“You look tired as fuck- actually, never mind, that’s a mood-“ Parker yawned, rubbing at their own dark circles. They had quite obviously been streaming all night, or at least to you. You had gotten extremely good at pointing things like that out about your friend. Parker seemed so bubbly all of the time, upright posture and bright-eyed twenty-four-seven, but there was something that just seemed so.. artificial about it. If you weren’t in your right mind, you would have definitely thought that they were just some odd entity, not even human. But obviously, their inhuman beauty did have a few flaws, so what seemed to be a mirage was admittedly true.
“That’s kind of your fault, really, for being so tired- “you laughed quietly, as if your own tiredness (You had slept a full twelve hours, what in the actual fuck was up with that?) wasn’t extremely apparent to the eye of anyone who took even the slightest glance at you.
You watched out of the corner of your eye as Parker hummed quietly, moving to help pick up the countless objects scattered about your room.
“Hey, you don’t have to- “
“Shush, [Y/N]. You aren’t gonna even try to stop me, are you?” They challenged. You gulped at the threatening edge to their voice. You knew it was a joke, but damn, they were scary at times. But then again, truthfully, no. You weren’t in fact going to stop them. Not only did you not want to put forth the effort, but there was no point in arguing anyway.
Once the two of you had finished picking up your room, Parker flopped on their back, your messy covers fluttering up slightly and your old bed giving a loud creak. They reached for a worn plush beside your pillow. It featured a circular face crescent-shaped split down the middle. It had clearly been done by hand; the thick stitches that had sewn the two halves together were rather messy but kept their hold.
“You still sleep with this thing-?” they asked, trying to hide the disbelieving scoff that escaped their mouth. It was lighthearted, you knew that, but it didn’t stop you from snatching it back.
“Hey, hey! I wasn’t trying to be rude or anyth-“ they started in a gentle, slightly lilted voice before you had cut them off.
“I know.” You huffed. Parker just nodded and stood up, leaving with a mumble about making breakfast as you hugged the worn plush closely to your chest.
The rest of your day dragged on awfully long, so you were grateful when your alarm went off for work. You grabbed all of your things- plush in hand- and ran out the door, trying to get out of the house as soon as possible. You hated how weird it had felt since this morning, the awkward silence when both yourself and Parker had been sitting on the couch, scrolling through your phones, and not saying a word. It was quite unlike the usual times you had spent together, when the silence was comfortable, and nobody felt like they had to say anything. Today, however, was different.
Something just felt… Off between you two after this morning’s encounter.
You couldn’t handle it for another second, even if you tried. Which, of course, you weren’t even going to make the attempt. Plus, it wasn’t like you even had the time to (Who were you kidding, you totally did), since you had to get to work.
Thankfully, your car gave you no trouble, and you got to the Pizzaplex relatively early. You, toolbox in hand, pushed open the large glass doors to dim LED lights and an uncomfortable silence. Then again, you supposed, it wasn’t exactly smart to keep the music on all night. This place must cost a fortune, and the franchise probably needed to save as much money as possible. Hell, why were you even thinking about that? It’s not like it was your business. You didn’t care anyway, you weren’t paid enough to- Actually, well, you were paid more than enough to care, but that was beside the point.
Dusk had already set in outside, and you were grateful for the light, but it was awfully cold. There was no way that your work jacket was going to even remotely suffice. You pulled it on anyway, though. Might as well put in the effort to at least try to keep yourself warm. Besides, it was getting rather uncomfortable tied around your waist. You hooked your keys to your utility belt and trotted off towards Parts and Service. Maybe, if you were lucky, you could find a few things that the animatronics were interested. You were certainly keen on making a good first impression- or second impression, in Freddy’s case.
You rubbed your eyes with your free hand, cursing quietly when an eyelash went into your eye. Dumbass. You blinked a few times to clear it, rubbing it again, more gently this time, with the palm of your hand. Now you just had to finish your trek towards the back of the building, near the Superstar Daycare. It certainly would be a nice surprise to find that they had already been separated, but you knew that wasn’t likely. You could always hope, though. At this point, you weren’t even sure if you wanted the two to remember you- after all, you had left so abruptly, no explanation whatsoever, and it was technically the celestial duo’s right to be upset. Maybe if they didn’t remember, you could just start over.
But no matter what, you knew that it would never be the same bond as when you were younger. Those precious memories were ones that you held dearest to you, the closest to your thrumming heart. But the database was large. You doubted anyone that worked here when you were younger was still at the franchise- maybe not even alive, considering the history of past locations. Putting safety completely aside, tossing it like garbage. That was the kind of person you were. Throw caution to the wind, and let it blow behind you until the winds changed and you needed to utilize it.
You pushed open the door to Parts And Service, momentarily pulling yourself from your thoughts to greet Joey.
“Someone looks happy to be here.” The tall, blond man hummed, voice in a muffled lilt. He hadn’t even turned his head to look at you, as far as you were aware. “Right on time, too. I’m impressed.” He chuckled, setting down his screwdriver and standing up. You could have sworn you heard bones popping, and you shuddered at the sound.
“Hardy har.” You mumbled at his sarcastic tone, setting down your toolbox in an empty seat. You used your newly freed hands to turn down your hearing aids just a smidge. Not too much so that you would barely hear anything, but just enough so you wouldn’t have to hear the noises that you shouldn’t have to, or want to, for that matter.
You let your eyes scan the room, looking for a specific twin set of celestial animatronics, but to avail. Joey glanced your way, noticing the questioning look on your face.
“They’re in the Daycare, if that’s what you’re wondering.” He hummed, turning back to sit down in his office chair with a spin. “Finished fixing ‘em up about an hour or two ago.”
“Already?” You didn’t want to sound dumb or anything, but you were truly in shock. There was no way he had gotten all of that done in a mere 48 hours, assuming that he had started the day you started touring.
“Well, I technically already had the bodies built, so I just had my nephew split the chip into two personalities. Given, there were some issues and things that needed to be erased for safety purposes- and no, I’m not telling you- everything was smooth sailing from there. Good as new!” In your head sparked many a question, but Joey’s words had been stated firmly. You weren’t quite sure if you actually wanted to test his authority quite yet. He seemed bubbly and peppy, though.. scary, somehow. You couldn’t quite put the feeling into words. So instead, you asked a different question.
“Your nephew?”
“Oh- uh, yeah. I’m not in tip-top shape when it comes to coding, so I call my Nephew- He’s the handyman around these parts- down to come ‘n take care of it. It’s not like he has much to do, since he’s always down scraping gum out of arcade coin slots.”
“Fair enough.” You shrugged. “Anyway, I’m going to go now.. Stuff to do. You know the drill.” You sighed, picking up your things.
“Don’t we all.” Joey laughed, scribbling something down on what looked to be blueprints. “Go get what you need to get done so you can go see the two idiot jesters in the Daycare. I can tell you’re already antsy to get over there.”
“How did you-“ You started, but he cut you off.
“I’ve been working here for years. You develop somethin’ like a sixth sense after being in this old dump for long enough.”
You snickered, opening the door and walking out. Though you could have sworn that you heard him say something else.
“If you even last that long.”
It was well into the night by the time you had finished with all of your nightly tasks. You looked around as you pushed your now-empty cart into the janitor’s closet. With luck, you wouldn’t have to do the tedious job of scraping mystery goo and old candy out of the Pizzaplex carpets for very long. Now, you just had to meet all of the animatronics. You weren’t sure if you should just go straight to the Daycare (which would be your obvious first choice if not for the fact that you one, had to watch the cams, and two, you had four other animatronics to meet), or into Rockstar Row to frolic with the giant metal furries.
You could honestly go for a nap right about now. The Main Four could wait, you wanted to see Sun and Moon. And if you were lucky- actually, both of the scenarios in your head sounded promising. You just hoped that the two jesters wouldn’t hate you. That would mess up everything for you. After all, they were basically half the reason you came here (The other half being money, your resume, and.. money.). You tried not to dwell too hard on that thought as you heaved open the large wooden doors. You had actually bothered to do your research and find out how to actually get the gate’s open without busting a vertebra or something along that line, I really had to do with technique- open the door as much as you could and slip through before you were crushed and gutted. Quite simple really. You weren’t the most agile, but you were quick on your feet when you really needed to be. And you definitely thought this was one of those cases. You caught the door before it closed with what you assumed would be a loud bang, easing it shut carefully. Little glow in the dark stars glittered from above. As you caressed your eyes over the lovely scene, your gaze came across a lithe figure clad in blue. You took a few steps, hearing the jing jing jing of what could only be a Daycare attendant. A sense of dread shot through you before you were promptly grabbed from behind by the shoulders.

Security Breach Tangled Au
I feel like most of the roles could be shuffled around, and be super fun, but I’m going to share my favorite versions i thought up. Also these aren’t word for word reflections, like I don’t think Rapunzel and Flynn have to marry in this version, or that the motivations behind actions have to be the same.
Y/N: Flynn Rider. I just…I dunno I think it’s so funny. Flynn is kind of just the realist of the group, leaning towards pessimist, and I think they’d be better in that role.
Sun/Moon: Rapunzel. With the whole being stuck in the Pizzaplex, I felt it fit a lot, and the whole sunshine optimism is really strong with Sun, and the hesitance to step outside and uncertainty about the world and others at first I feel could align more with Moon’s depictions in fanfics I’ve read.
(I also considered having Moon and Sun be Mother Gothel and Rapunzel figures and vice versa, and I feel exploring that relationship would be extremely interesting as well)
Mini Music Man: Pascal. I don’t have an in depth explanation.
DJ: Maximus. Also don’t have an in depth. HIM HATING Y/N THO IS SUPER FUNNY.
Freddy: Gothel…? I dunno, I feel exploring him as that role would be very interesting, and you could play around with the motivation (a sense of deep protection rather than greed). Alternatively you could have Vanny in that role too.
Roxy: The brothers that used to work with Flynn. I dunno, she’s very mean, and I feel she could fit in there.
MONTGOMERY GATOR: THE GUYS FROM THE DUCK RESTAURANT. Specifically the piano guy. He’s very aggressive in the game when behind closed doors, but he doesn’t seem to be aggressive when talking to others really? And I feel he’s often portrayed as a bully and I DISAGREE I THINK HES NOT A BULLY, SO THIS IS GREAT.
Chica: I think Chica could either be from the restaurant too OR she could be from the kingdom. It’s just she seems really nice and chill, so I’m figuring her out.
Would love to hear what people think!
