Sup, my name's Kalino Pāpa'i. I made this account because I saw my bestie Nephrite posting here, and I wanted to do the same.

I enjoy skating, painting, and collecting new gold accessories to wear. I used to live in the water (im part crab) near Nephrite and their siblings, but now i just chill on land.

Heyo!! I made this account to shed some possible light on my twst oc, who was twisted from Tamatoa.

He comes from Hawaiian heritage and doesn't go to either schools. (cough cough, dropout).

And yes before you ask, his name does mean stuff in Hawaiian.

Kalino, from my research, is supposed to mean "the smart/intelligent one".

Pāpa'i, from my research, is supposed to mean "crab".

So if you put the two together, in relation, should mean "the smart/intelligent crab".

Kalino is mute, and uses sign language (ASL) whenever speaking. His favorite signs to use are "die", "octopus", and "beautiful".

:DISCLAIMER:

Kalino Pāpa'i', of course, isn't accurate to Hawaiian culture and will never be compared to or seen on the same level as it.

This character is simply for me to expand my character creations so that all of my characters aren't white Caucasians.

Spoiler alert for ep 3 and comparison to the same scenes in the manga.

Also tw for some triggering moments from ep 3, please proceed at your own risk.

So this is going to be part 1 and I'm gonna start with shrimple 🦐 things because I don't have my big tablet with me so the suggestions are made with what I have available.

So first of all, the RCiel flashback, absolutely disgraceful execution.

I'm not going to go into it fully yet, but for example this scene:

In the manga you can see the horror in his eyes.

When using only black and white, one is forced to convey emotions in their most pure form because of the color restrictions. That's why it works so well, plus Yana is a master of shadows and compositions primarily containing black.

The "animated" shot does not convey even remotely the same emotion for me.

Firstly because of the style they have chosen. You can't have his eyelashes be this bright and expect to portray fear properly.

Secondly because of the colors.

IT'S SO DAMN BRIGHT.

Yes, the manga is also bright but that's because it wants to point your attention to his eye. And the emptiness that comes with the terror in it.

The blue in his eyes and the two highlights ruin any convincing part of this shot left. Too much detail, TOO MUCH. It works in the manga because it's made with as little lines as possible, the detail takes away the effect.

So here is what I added according to what I mentioned:

It's darker on the side, creating a greater contrast with the eye. I have included only one highlight, just like in the manga and have made the eyelashes darker. I also added a bit more detail under the eye for a stronger effect (just like it's done in the manga).

So I used Book of Atlantic as reference and fixed his face a bit. I also made the shot darker because OF COURSE IT WILL BE

He's giving again, he's a bit, just a tiny bit more serious again, you see how big of a difference to his personality it makes.

It's paying attention to those details that keeps a character in character.

It's this scene from the manga:

I love it's composition because look at how full and sad and overwhelming ociels panel is compared to how small and cornered sebs one is.

Not only is he so small, but he's also off center IN HIS OWN panel, pushed as much to the left as he can be to portray how distant he is to ociel now.

Its not about the speech bubble, it's about unconsciously separating them from one another.

And here's what the stupid ass studio decided is best

I put him in the first third of the composition, put the light source off camera, cus we don't need that brightness, fixed his hair and made IT DARKER YET AGAIN. I also had to draw some of the background, I hope it doesn't stand out too much.

ANYWAY.

No gif cus there's a 10 pic limit that I didn't know about.

This is just the first part, I'll get to the animation and specific scenes later. I know I didn't cover any of the important ones but I can't do much without my tablet 😔

All of those shots, that mind you, 2 of which are not even animated at all aside from Sebastian's mouth, took me less than 2 hours to work on. Yes, the base was already there, but that little effort makes THE DIFFERENCE, IT MAKES SUCH A DIFFERENCE!!!

Once again, I'm not claiming to be an expert, I just really love this story and want it to get the care and proper adaptation it deserves.

And if you think I'm being nitpicky...

Yes.

I absolutely am.

Because that's how you make a high quality product.

By THINKING. And making THE APPROPRIATE CHOICES TO MAKE THE WANTED EFFECT EVEN STRONGER.

Sorry to bother you, but I don't know, I'm starting to wonder what are the zodiac signs of Moana 2🥲i know Maui is definitely a Leo and Moana a Cancer, but what about the others any thoughts😇☺☺??

*smacks down a soapbox* OK SO I HAVE OPINIONS.

First, my thesis statement:

Maui: Scorpio sun- specifically a scorpio/sag cusp on Nov 24/25. He oozes that trickster charisma, bit of that bad boy energy, he's very adaptable, flowing from shape to shape like the water element he was born in. He draws you in with that cocky grin but he will sting you if you get too close too fast! He has dark depths in his soul that not even he has explored, but another water sign might draw those feelings out with the right dose of empathy. (Foreshadowing) the sag cusp plays well into his love of freedom & exploration. He knows what the right path is but he often gets sidetracked or caught up in trying to get there in the flashiest, cleverest way possible XD

Now you can be forgiven for thinking he's a leo- I believe he's a Leo rising. That confident Swagger, the radiant easy charm, heck, even that full silky mane of curls- its his public mask. The golden hero he wants everyone to think he is. Even his supposed narcisism is a ruse-deep down he's got that watery core of insecurity that he tries to hide from the world under the firey Beacon of his smile. He appears social and friendly on the outside like a Leo, but he returns to that lone wolf lifestyle when things get too real.

Finally in the "big three" of maui's chart I believe he would be a Sagittarius Moon. A person's Moon sign represents their subconscious and a bit of how they dream. Maui of course has the unique experience of wearing his subconscious on his sleeve (tattoo)! Mini is a sassy lil fire sign who embodies his big self's wanderlust & free spirit. He encourages maui to be a "straight shooter" & gets mad when maui's scorpio tendacies 'sting' the people close to him...namely moana.

Speaking of moana!

I absolutely agree that Moana would be a Cancer sun sign! There is even official merch that places her as one, although it's far from Canon...

It's hard to read but you can tell it by the shape of the constellation on the Moana side & by the tamatoa on the back it's supposed to be the crab. Ironically, (for being crabs)Cancers are the mom friend of the group. Very empathetic, community minded, nurturing, both soothing and protective. Typical cancers are often homebodies, and prefer their comfort zone & company of their emotional support people...which sets up moana's main conflict; she's a Sagittarius rising.

as previously discussed, Sagittarius is all about travel & freedom. It's the part of moana who wants to chase that horizon line, who chafes at being stuck on one island forever but also deeply loves and connects with people & home. She wants the big adventure, the thrill and then to come home and share all she's learned, or better yet, take her home & love with her whenever she can. she does her best work when she embraces both sides of herself- the chief and the explorer- the Tautai. She knows the way forward And the way home.

That plus her moon sign puts moana's Birthday around July 16th. Her moon sign, I believe, is Scorpio.

Subconsciously, I think moana has a bit of trickster in her- the adaptability and secret ability to manipulate things into going her way- having lots of empathy can make you a kind, caring individual, but it can also be wielded as a hidden weapon. If you can empathize with your opponent, you can work out their motivations, their most likely next move and plan accordingly. Scorpio is clever, and can sus out hidden weakspots where their sting might be most effective. Moana uses her double-water sign empathy powers for good of course, and it makes her a naturally excellent therapist. It also enhances her lateral problem solving skills. Water has a way of finding its way through the tiniest crack and given enough time can reduce a mountain into a lake.

I haven't put as much thought into the other character's signs... I do think tala is an Aquarius, a tricksey air sign that most people think is a water sign. A keeper of knowledge and more than a little crazy...

Tamatoa ironically enough I see as another scorpio...maybe a scorpio rising with cancer subconcious moon, it'd be a waste if he didn't have crab somewhere in his "big three" XD plus one of the more materialistic, ambitious signs...Capricorn?

Bro I really wish I knew how to animate. Not little joke animatics but like full music videos cause I've been listening to Jonathan Young's villain covers. Some of these songs would fit my boys so well-

And since that's probably never going to happen, I'm just gonna yap about it here.

RAMBLING MOMENT (skip if ya want)

Poseidon obviously gets Shiny. It fits his harsh nature along with how vein he can be. I also believe he is attracted to shiny things like fish are, so he'd hoard like crazy. I did consider My Lullaby, but come on. It's Shiny. How could I not? Also that moment at the end when Tamatoa mocks Maui is so Poseidon and older Ody to me. "Oh the king's having trouble with his look. You don't swing it like you used to."

Zeus was harder for me to decide, and I was going to pick Gaston, but I don't think it fits my interpretation to a tee. So I would pick You're Only Second Rate. Every Zeus loves to brag and he sure as hell doesn't need someone else to sing his praises. He does that enough himself. "Hit me with your best shot, kid. Really? Was that it? Well then, my turn."

I was going to give Hades In the Dark of the Night since he's generally more serious than his brothers, but something about that choice didn't sit right with me. He is on the more serious end, but he can have more bombastic moments like his siblings. He also has a playful side that comes out more when he's tipsy or betting with/against a mortal. For that, I think Oogie Boogie's song fits him after a few shots of wine. Especially if the person he's singing to is Odysseus. "Is this really the mf my brothers' were so upset over? They can't be serious. This is some kind of joke. I've had too much wine."

Ladies and gentlemen and everything else out there, may I introduce you to my twst OC, Naloa Pitaata. 2nd year Pomefiore student based off Tamatoa. He is 6'3 or 192cm, is the head, founder and currently sole member of the Pool Activities Club and is in class A.

This is partially traced and partially freehand, so I won't call it my art. I chose not to pose him and to just do a straight basic front on thing for a variety of reasons including that I can't draw limbs and especially hands, I hadn't finalised the jewellery designs and I wanted to get used to the uniform first.

The hair colours are nauseatingly bright and clashy now I put them into practice but I'm not going to change them. I'm committed to the worst parts of the design lmao.

This is also technically a WIP as I obviously haven't added shading or highlights, but I also haven't added shading or highlights to any of the old Danganronpa ones I said I would so uh...

Twilight is an octarian soldier (like, the only one left for some reason) sent by Octavio to investigate the Splatlands about the disappearances of the other Octarians while he says he "won't be too far behind" (foreshadowing)

on the way there she meets spike. he's the "little buddy" smallfry of this. no he will not tell her what spike is short for or why he was in the middle of the desert when he met her

Oh yeah and only twilight can understand him bc she speaks salmonid. he just sounds like gurgles to the rest of the gang

twilight gets a transmission from Octavio basically telling her to go to Splatsville specifically, "blend in, make friends, keep a low profile, whatever"

just outside of splatsville they run into fluttershy (her name is probably different but I can't think of a good one so she's just fluttershy for now). she's a sea slug (kinda like flow) bc look at this image.

she's heading into town too and it basically goes like the show where she's like "omg is that a salmonid... wowie......."

MEANWHILE in Splatsville:

Pinkie (inkling), Dash (octoling who grew up in the Splatlands), and Jack (inkling) are all friends but they're in a bit of a pickle. they wanna do turf wars but they need a 4th person and the random people they keep getting matched with just don't vibe very well :(

enter twilight. (and fluttershy) (and spike)

Pinkie goes "GAAAAASP HEY HEY WANNA JOIN OUR TURF WAR TEAM"

at first twilight's like "Ugh no" but then spike is like "heyyyyy part of your missionnnn was making friiiiiends rememeberrrrr?"

so she joins the team. fine sure whatever I'm not gonna get attached (she gets attached)

Pinkie is good with all weapons tbh but her favorites are rollers and blasters

crater proceeds as normal with twilight, pinkie, dash, and jack each taking one level. twilight is... *unnerved* by the current status of the octarian troops

enter octavio. hes fucking pissed. this is his natural state of being tho

he calls out twilight for being a TRAITOR and she feels bad blah blah blah they kick his ass

again it proceeds as normal but when twilight wakes up. she's alone (except for spike). as it turns out all of her besties landed on different islands somehow bc this might as well happen

Twilight is island 1, jack is island 2, pinkie is island 3, fluttershy is island 4, dash is island 5, and rarity is island 6 working on everyone's agent outfits all along so they got their group swag by the end of it

again story is pretty much the same from there. kill that bear

and so the world is saved with the power of friendship :)

unfortunately celestia and luna don't really exist by virtue of octavio kind of taking celestia's role? rip queens we loved you so much but you were replaced by old men unfortunately. sad

Well, Floyd isn’t exactly my favorite (least favorite, actually. Only saving grace is that he’s funny and Stitch likes him) so I do not put a lot of thought into him. I do love Ursula and her two eels and twst managed to get the bases of their dynamic right, but Floyd is the reason why I don’t want to be in Octavinelle. No particular reason, and it’s not that I hate him affectionately (Ace), I just dislike lil bro.

So, my incredibly biased opinion on Floyd has made me unable to care enough to give him a girl/boyfriend (Floyd is def pan). I think he gets along well with Alohi (my twst! Tamatoa) as they match each other’s freak, but romance is a no.

Floyd PROBABLY has a crush on her, tho, but Alohi is the type of person to call someone a year younger “Kid”, so she sees him more of a younger brother.

I think I’d rather just go along with whomever someone decides to ship Floyd with. I sorta like Flomil (Floyd x Jamil) or the whole basketball team together. Idk man.

Ok so I've been rotating this now for a few hours and I have

thoughts

on alternate monster forms for all the princes that currently just have a human one. Most of them pretty easy/obvious but there are some neat ones in there. Azura: This one was... hard. Maybe the hardest. Best I could come up with was basically a giant starfish monster thing embedded and bedazzled with countless thousands of shiny things. Like Tamatoa and Starro made out sloppy style for a few hours and this was the result. Boethia: easy one. Her statues/symbols have associated him with serpents. Like, a fuck ton, honestly. So thinking for her some giant hydra creature is an easy slot in. Maybe give him a set of tails that all look like swords for bonus points. But yea. Easy enough, makes sense. Clavicus Vile: Horned hound with the tongue of a snake. Not explaining this one, feels obvious enough. Hircine: Including here because most people just know his form of Alrabeg, the Hunter. But he already has four fun other forms. Take your pick. Giant deer-skulled werewolf, Moder (from the Ritual) style deer monster, a seemingly innocent fox, or a giant fucking bear monster. Easy peasy. Jyggalag: Ramiel from Evangelion. Not explaining myself. Next question. Malacath: Ok feel like I'm kinda cheating with this one because its still semi-humanoid but its really what I'm most strongly imagining. Ashpit-come-alive. A giant fucking skeleton just billowing out smoke and ash and cinder. A choking, walking, sandstorm of soot and smog billowing out around a skyscraper sized giant bone-dude. Mehrunes Dagon: Really struggled with this one because he's my favourite boy and wanted to do him justice. After much MUCH thinking I've finally settled on a form that ticks all the boxes for me. A giant, angry, four armed monkey with the head of a cat. Still all red and fiery of course, but yea. That's... the gist. Putting my vision into a small amount of words is hard. Mephala: Giant spider. NEXT! Meridia: Get full on biblical be-not-afraid angel with it. Rings of eyes and glowing, blinding, light. Horrifying-holy. Speaks in the voice of a chorus. Etc etc etc. Molag Bal: Giant, uncomfortably phalic, worm monster. Lower part of it trails off into thousands of 'tails' that each end in grabbing hands. This is all. Best not to dwell on him. Nocturnal: Some kinda giant horrific crow creature swathed in a cloak of shadow. Sanguine: If you've ever seen one of those fractal video things where it just constantly zooms in forever and ever and makes your brain hurt? That, but a rose. Petals ever unfolding and folding and folding and folding. Hypnotizing you in with almost painful motions as it just keeps blooming. Bonus points if its also just weeping out rivers of blood. Sheogorath: Two options. His more 'butterfly with the face of a screaming man' form OR get real horrific with it. Big ol' flesh monster of torn sinew and stretched muscle. Beautiful and horrific at once. Get real cenobite-y with it. Vaermina: Honestly shouldnt have any one form. She looks like whatever you fear most, given physical shape, and is different for everyone.

Long ago, I listed my top Animated Villain loves as Frollo, Rasputin, Hades, Facilier, Jafar, and Tzekel-Khan. ... I don't know WHAT possessed me to only choose 6 (4 Disney + 2 not-Disney), especially cuz around that time of my budding adulthood, the top # lists I made were always 7.

Well! I can rectify this. To complete the 7, I'll add in ❤️‍🔥 The Horned King. (Yes, I do enjoy Clayton and Ratigan, but they're not my top 7. Top 10, perhaps.)
