I have one more Great Ace Attorney AU that I actually came up with as I was actively playing through case 2-3 (Return of the Great Departed Soul.)
My notes aren't quite polished enough to share the long version, but I have a few key ideas I can share.
It all started with a question. "What would happen if Albert Harebrayne got kidnapped and held for ransom?"
And Barok van Zieks gets the ransom note
Only the demands aren't for money, but instead for Van Zieks to get a guilty verdict in an upcoming trial
Kazuma has gone off on "personal business" so he's not Van Zieks's co-counsel this time around
Ryunosuke and Susato are the opposing counsel, of course
The trial is a murder trial because in Ace Attorney, it's always murder
In this case, it's the murder of someone who'd been recently reported missing
The defendant is a young Italian stage magician who was just making his debut (who I really want to come up with a pun name for)
Herlock Sholmes is there. He's been investigating a string of missing persons cases in the background
Stage magic + missing persons cases = a great idea for a title. Adventure of the Great Vanishing Act
After a very stressful first day of trial and additional investigation, Ryunosuke and Susato approach Van Zieks because they know he's not himself
It takes some effort on Ryunosuke's part, but Van Zieks comes clean about the ransom note, and how he doesn't want to lose one of his friends the day he was supposed to get him out of England to save him from the Reaper's Curse
Sholmes arrives and he's heard everything. And he reassures everyone that he can rescue Albert, since he's close to cracking the missing persons case
There's a major moment (reminiscent of Farewell my Turnabout) where Ryunosuke, Susato and Van Zieks agree to prolong the trial as long as they can to give Sholmes enough time to get Albert out of danger
I'm floating the idea of Iris being Sholmes's investigation partner during that part of the story because you can't have a Dance of Deduction solo
Albert takes matters into his own hands and sets off a small explosion (on purpose this time) just to let people know where he is (when in doubt, blow something up!)
This explosion tips Sholmes off to his location, and after a brief reunion, the Great Detective whisks Professor Harebrayne away to the Old Bailey
Ryunosuke and Van Zieks have given it their all in the courtroom. Van Zieks has no doubt that the young magician is not guilty. Sholmes hasn't arrived yet, but there is no other way to stall the trial. He knows he couldn't live with himself, nor would Albert forgive him if he sent a perfectly innocent young man to the gallows
"The Prosecution... Rests."
Ryunosuke can't come up with anything else either. "The Defense... Rests."
Mere minutes before a verdict is called, there is a last minute "Hold it!"
Sholmes arrives, with Albert in tow. "Forgive my tardiness, ladies and gentlemen! I had a very important promise to keep!"
The Judge asks why they're even here, since the trial seems to have reached its logical conclusion
Sholmes goes on to suggest that the proceedings can't end here, since it's possible that the true culprit behind the murder and the vanished Londoners might be sitting in the gallery.
Ryunosuke suggests that both Albert Harebrayne and Herlock Sholmes testify, since they are both important witnesses. "We have a survivor and... The Great Detective who discovered one of the culprit's hideouts!"
Van Zieks agrees to let them testify. He looks at Albert in particular when he mentions he fully supports the idea.
Their testimony and evidence (including the ransom note sent to Van Zieks) point out the actual mastermind
The culprit is desperate (and perhaps foolish) enough to try and attack the witnesses. Sholmes gets Albert behind him, and quickly has the suspect on the ground with a single blow.
The bailiff takes him away, much to the relief of everyone present.
When there's once again order in the court, the Judge finally calls a verdict of Not Guilty for the young magician, who can hardly believe what just happened in his trial
I'm still working on the post-trial scenes. (As much as the other scenes.) But I have a few details worked out.
The young magician will go back to Italy, both to escape the Reaper's Curse and reconcile with his family
Van Zieks doesn't directly thank Ryunosuke and the others but he recognizes their abilities. And he knows when they're in the courtroom, the truth will be brought to light
Albert apologizes profusely to everyone, feeling like he's just caused them all a great deal of trouble once again
Ryunosuke gets the feeling of de ja vu as he gives Professor Harebrayne the reassurance that none of this was his fault at all
Van Zieks can tell how tired Albert is and offers to take him home. "You need food and rest. You've been through a lot, Albert."
Ryunosuke is completely taken aback on how gentle Van Zieks sounds. He accidentally says this out loud and receives an icy glare in return
Barok and Albert share supper together at the professor's home. They also share a conversation.
Barok isn't proud of the way he first responded to the ransom note
Albert tells him "I might have acted the same way, if I was in your shoes."
In the very end, it's seen as the best thing for Albert to leave Britain after all (in this AU he was trying to stay to prove a point.)
Barok quietly agrees. Then he humbly asks Albert to write to him once he's reached Germany, and mentions that he will keep in touch.
At Baker St, Ryunosuke, Susato, Iris and Sholmes are having their own supper. Sholmes excitedly explains how he found a notebook with details about the other missing Londoners in the same building he found Albert Harebrayne. Since then, the rest of the citizens have been returned home
Ryunosuke couldn't believe how tough (and how personal) today's trial became, but he knows as long as he has the others to help him, he can overcome any challenges in the courtroom
Everyone at Baker St. shares a toast with Iris's tea, to victory and unbreakable bonds

Ok but can we talk about how out of all the major male characters that Ryunosuke interacts with throughout the story, van Zieks is the ONLY one that isn't hiding something from/lying to him at one point or another?? Sholmes lies about Kazuma being alive, Kazuma hides the fact that he's going to Britain as a hired assassin, Yujin hides details about the Professor killings from him in 2-2, Stronghart lies about... Well, everything really. Like there's so much I could say about him lol. Gregson hides the fact that he helped frame Genshin for the Professor killings, McGilded lies about having been the culprit in the omnibus case, Jigoku lies about having been the one to kill Gregson... Etc etc. I personally can't remember a single point where van Zieks was hiding things from Ryuu or just straight up lying about important things to his face. He's an ass to him at first, sure, but he's ultimately on the side of justice and finding out the truth, even if it means hurting his cases or having his worldview challenged (except maybe in the case of Klint, which I'll get into).
Now one might say, "Oh but didn't he hide the fact that he had a brother from Ryunosuke at first?". And to that I say... So what? From van Zieks' point of view, details about his personal life (and ESPECIALLY about Klint) are hard to talk about and, frankly, Ryuu really had no reason to need that info about him, other than just to be nosy. That's why he's so cagey about the topic in 2-3, and why he's (somewhat) more willing to talk about it with him in 2-4/5, because at that point Ryunosuke absolutely DOES need to know more about Klint (and the Professor killings in general). And as for Ryuu's point of view, he really has no reason to be asking about van Zieks' personal life at first, other than the fact that he's just curious about it.
Anyways. I really do believe that, despite how rocky these two's dynamic is at first, it's been built on honesty and straightforward-ness from the start, and I really appreciate how we have an Ace Attorney prosecutor who's more than willing to not hide the truth from his lawyer rival (even if he's making dunks on Ryunosuke half the time, lol)
#GOD im so glad i finally wrote. something. about these two's dynamic#like their dynamic is so underrated and it sucks because it's so good like!!#as early as 1-3 these two are working towards finding the truth no matter what it may be. even if it means they might lose#ryuu in 1-3 openly admits that the omnibus was tampered with even though that may implicate his client#van zieks in as early as 1-4 not only gives evidence to the defense that he 100% didn't have to give#(and that would potentially cause him to lose the trial)#but he also calls out the actual culprit and makes it very clear that he won't tolerate her hiding things from the court#he does this in 1-5 as well with graydon.. and in 2-2 with ms green#i'm currently doing my second dgs playthrough and i'm at 2-3 so my memory there is a lil hazy lol#but i do remember that in 2-3 he had an absolutely insane premise for his case and probably sounded like an IDIOT to everyone there#and it 100% feels like it was a way to subtly tell ryuu 'hey mr naruhodo you're smart you should have 0 issue ripping my case apart'#(to be fair 2-3 saw his one friend as the defendant so that's probably why he went through all the effort. but still)#anyways im obsessed with their dynamic and y'all SLEEP on it goodbye#va4 rambles in the tags#vu's posts#tgaa#tgaa 2 spoilers#barok van zieks#ryunosuke naruhodo#also to y'all who ship them you can absolutely ship tag this lol. like im not a fan of the pairing i just like their dynamic platonically#but tbh if you wanna use this as ship fuel then honestly just go for it lmao#o shit i almost forgor... their dynamic tag omg#reaper/resolve

again I’ve played a few of these cases before so I knew this was coming but the first time I played this I remember I was caught pretty legitimately off guard and I think it’s funny that, at least in my case, shu takumi was able to get away with the exact same twist twice.
like I’d been a fan of ace attorney for 10 years at that point, I know the first game inside and out, and yet in tgaa, when the mentor character from case 1 was the victim in case 2 I was like

more info for each option below
1- I just think it's funny if everyone knew who Sherlock Holmes was (Phoenix's 'Sherlock Holmes 2 baby!' moment) and it's a popular belief that he wasn't real but he was, just under a better name.
2- I can't help but look at these guys and point at them. Kazuma's concept art where he has his hair back is so Phoenix-coded and one of his thinking sprites looks a lot like Phoenix's and I think that in the afterlife whenever Phoenix is kind of a bitch Ryunosuke looks over at Kazuma and blames him for it. I don't know which one is trans and neither do historians, it's knowledge that has been lost to time. Though it would be funny if Ryu just popped out of nowhere to go to university where no one knew him so no one would know anything about him. Did he forge government documents to do it? who knows he's just living his best life memorizing tongue twisters.
3- It would either be something badass like a snake winding around her arm or something symbolic like a fleur-de-lys which is the flower-based symbol in TGAA for European prosecutors. I also think it's funny bc it's apparently based on an Iris (or a lily), and the iris has the connotation that it 'prevents fire' which would be funny subtle anti-phoenix symbolism.
4- as much as the fan renditions of scruffy beanix absolutely fuck, this guy has the most pathetic facial hair I've ever seen, he's trying so hard to look like a homeless rundown stoner but can only manage a sprinkling of stubble. In addition, Miles can grow facial hair and he tried to grow a mustache for a week in Europe but it was a sensory nightmare and he will never do it again.
5- idk there's a reason his little mascot is a mouse, I just think it's funny if he just appears next to people and they have no idea how he got there. quiet little guy (unless he's thinking loud enough for it to leak out of his mouth). If he was a little more chaotic he would make an excellent thief/ pickpocket. The closest he gets is making snacks disappear from the 221b pantry.
6- All the animals as evidence and his first defendant in seven years being an Orca, he has that disney princess vibe. He was buds with Polly the parrot during the trial and even Money the monkey warmed up to him, especially in the anime where he just chills on Phoenix's shoulders during the court demonstration. I also think eventually Taka would also warm up to him due to his immaculate bird vibes. Trucy's doves and rabbits love him, he does not know how this happened. He regularly has pigeons following him around during investigations. He accidentally makes friends with a crow when throwing out popcorn kernels, it regularly gives him things now and more than once it has retrieved evidence for a case he's working on. He names it Kay and refers to Human Kay accordingly.
7- A little detail I noticed was that a lot of the information Mia got on Redd White was from conversing through the spiritual veil which seems to be her strong suit even as a spirit herself. She can talk to Phoenix without having to use a medium. I think it would be interesting to delve into all the nuances of the Fey's spiritual abilities outside of channeling. There's definitely a whole lot more to it than we're provided. How does that magatama work? how does Pearl charge it with 'spiritual power' and why is she the only one that can do it? I'm a hoe for magical worldbuilding so I would love to get my grubby fingers all over the Fey's.
8- Just two haters who can't have the job that they worked so hard for and are bitter about it. I like to think that Ema visited America at least once a year to visit Lana in prison and she stayed with Phoenix to save money on hotels. It just means something to me that it's her pin that's on his beanie and she gets included in the Wright family (+ Apollo) new years official art, and he keeps the investigative tools she gave him for nearly a decade. They aren't the best influence on each other but they understand each other more than nearly anyone else. They send each other pictures of Edgeworth whenever one of them is hanging out with him so the other doesn't feel left out. Also, they both think it's funny to catch him in the middle of talking or making a weird facial expression.
9- Some guy can't just change how trials are done for everyone without a lot of political bs, Phoenix is famous in law circles and even outside of law circles but he needs to convince a lot of important people (and expose a lot of corrupt important people) before it can go through. At some point, Edgeworth is going to pick him up and they're going on a private plane to talk to the president. It's important to me that he has trouble grasping how important he has become and is surprised every time he's invited to speak at some fancy event even though he's literally important enough to have statues made of him. He is the most iconic defense attorney, he solved the deaths of the two most notable defense attorneys before him in some of his first trials. He is going to be in history books and that is unimaginable to him.
10- Obviously since his canon ancestor is Japanese he's at least part Japanese but I mean like, in my mind, he's fully Japanese American who can speak the language and was raised by immigrants, but I also think that so many other hcs are fun. Is he latino with his black daughter? love that, inject some melanin in these attorneys please. I see the ensemble artwork and am blinded instantly.

1, 7 and 13 for the choose violence ask game
The questions that are the foundation of why I hate certain characters (or how they're perceived) lmao
you didnt say the fandom so im gonna choose different ones from my fandoms based on how strongly i feel about them (rain code and tgaa)
(rain code) the character everyone gets wrong OOOO okay imma say vivia twilight. feels like a lot of the fandom either slots him into a "komaeda" archetype (which he just straight up Isn't), a stereotypical emo boy character, or just kinda only making him thirsty for yakou? his admiration for yakou is a pretty decent chunk of his character but it's got major case of "character acknowledged only for shipping" vibes to it if that makes sense. if he's gonna simp make it more in character dammit!!! (/lh) it's a shame to me because i really do love vivia's entire arc and story about "comfortable lies vs uncomfortable truths" and his general non-confrontational, deflective behavior (especially when using poetics to avoid ever being straightforward about something, love him for that). i'd love to make more art/fic of him. unfortunately i also am not the vivia expert (that title i'd gladly hand over to loremaster) and kinda struggle to capture his voice lol (i do wanna get good at this someday) so i wouldn't really tout myself as someone who gets him "right" either lmao. but you don't gotta be a chef to know when the food is off, yknow?
(tgaa) what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them? kazuma asougi i got so sick of his ass thanks to the fandom (especially because a LOT of kazuma enjoyers were also massive BVZ haters and also made ryunosuke's character all about shipping him with kazuma) but nowadays im more neutral about him. i still dont really care much for him anymore even though i miss the time when i was really obsessed w him.
(rain code) worst blorboficiation martina electro oh my god. (jigsaw voice) rain code fandom, as you can see, there is a giant cubing compressor surrounding you. i have before you a picture of marina electro. you have to say what you like about her character without simply saying she's hot or using some variation of "girlboss." you have five minutes. on top of that, many fans like to pretend she's yomi's helpless victim when she's just as fucked up and complicit in his shit right up until she gets sent to die. i already voiced my opinion on what happens afterwards in my "why yomi should've died" post (which btw isnt a yomi hate post just me talking about missed story potential) but that's spoilers for you lemon so im leaving it at that

Incoming rant about The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Herlock Sholmes from The Great Ace Attorney, and the BBC Sherlock (no major spoilers ahead I promise).
A preface before I begin; I was never a big fan of Sherlock Holmes or any adaptation of the stories. I've seen Elementary although I was very young so I only have the vaguest of memories of enjoying it, and my roommate had me watch a couple BBC Sherlock episodes when I was a tween/young teen. My mother claims she tried to get me into Sherlock Holmes but I'm rather skeptical. Anyhow, onto the story.
Back in March my boyfriend bought me the Ace Attorney games for my birthday which included the Great Ace Attorney Chronicles (or Dai Gyakuten Saiban for those who are still stuck on the pre-localization names ;p). I was on my flight home from my birthday trip after I got the news my manager fired my brother while I was out of the state and figured why not, I'd start playing the first TGAA game on the flight. I'd probably enjoy myself and I couldn't sleep.
Second biggest mistake of the year (first biggest was trusting Les Schwab to do my brake job). I. Was. Hooked. I played the first case and fell in love with Kazuma instantly (he's so Zero shaped!). I played the second case and realized that calling him Zero shaped was way too accurate. We all know what happened there. Most important to this rant, I met Herlock Sholmes (more on my opinions on him later). I could barely put the game down but I had to take a break due to finding a new job and getting adjusted. I ended up finishing the game in June or July, one of the two. I finished the final case of the first game in one long 12 hour gaming session it was that good (my back didn't thank me though).
Now, the man of the hour: Herlock Sholmes. I didn't think much of him initially. He was simultaneously charming and annoying in the second case but as I played more he grew on me. I cried when the start of 1-5 happened. He clawed his way up into like the top 7 favorite characters at the time. The ending of the game with him playing his violin made me bawl my eyes out. I. Loved. This. Game.
It took a few more months to start and finish the second game. In between Adventures and Resolve I played Skyward Sword, Minish Cap, and some others so I had a healthy break. I came back to play Resolve and finished it like two months ago. It hit me in the gut just as hard as the first game did although there are a great many things I'd tweak and do differently. But Herlock Sholmes... man, he's not my favorite but he's up there underneath Kazuma and Van Zieks.
Anyhow, I finished the game but the hyperfixation had started and would not let me go. I've never been one to go out and seek fanfiction due to... personal stuff but I had a feeling I didn't want to go probe the depths of AO3 yet for fear of crying. I started a graveyard shift at my job which severely limited my ability to talk with people about stuff and also there's so many major spoilers but very few people I knew had played the game. A thought occurred to me, however. What about Sherlock Holmes audiobooks? I have an auditory processing issue which has made listening to audiobooks hard but I decided to give it a go. Perhaps it would satiate the TGAA hyperfixation hunger.
I found the ones produced by Magpie Audio, expertly narrated by Greg Wagland. Go check him out, he has over 77 videos of Sherlock Holmes audiobook recordings and all of them are a minimum of 40 minutes, often times far more. I went through over 30 hours of audiobook in a few weeks listening to these. Sherlock Holmes is such a good character and I can understand how and why he took late Victorian England by storm. And you know what the best part is?
Herlock Sholmes is the most faithful adaptation I have personally seen as a character of the original Sherlock Holmes.
They got so many of Sherlock's little idiosyncrasies right and you can tell the entire team were genuine fans of the books. I listened to Mr. Wagland's narration *and I saw 221B Baker of the games*. Especially the jack knife impaling the communications to the mantle being referenced in the game? The sheer mess of the flat? It's so good!
My roommate (whom is also a Sherlock Holmes fan) noticed my newest hyper fixation that spawned off of TGAA and that reignited his Sherlock Holmes obsession. He was a fan of the BBC Sherlock and now recognizes it was not a very great show but it's a comfort media for him nonetheless. He just dragged me into rewatching it and... okay, it's playing into a lot of inaccurate Sherlock tropes I don't like but goddamn Martin Freeman carries the whole show. I love his John Watson because it feels like a reasonable version of a modern, younger Watson. He feels real in a way. I do like the fact that even in the first episode, it's established that John and Sherlock can make each other laugh and smile just like in the books. I don't forgive them calling Sherlock a sociopath, however (speaking as someone with a brother that has been diagnosed with being a high-fuctioning sociopath). He's AuDHD to the max and deserves recognition in that department.
All of this to say, I can trace my current Sherlock hyperfixation back to Mega Man. Finding Mega Man in 4th grade led to watching the Ace Attorney anime in late 2021 which led to playing The Great Ace Attorney and that led to listening to Sherlock Holmes. I don't know why I decided to make this post but maybe I might start live blogging this shit? All in all, this is going to be a wild ride.

I think Ace Attorney fandom shouldn't go hard on people who engage with fanworks about male chararcters and relationship between them way more often than with same about female characters. Capcom does the same thing, and it's far less justifiable
Ask yourself how long it was since you last saw an official art with Ryu with Susato, his assistant and essentialy deuteragonist of the story instead of Ryu being with a character who's barely been in half of the cases?
Have you ever seen a piece of the official TGAA merch that isn't the same four Ryunosuke/Kazuma/Sholmes/Barok?
Or the attorney roster with Mia and/or Athena being presented - one being an incredibly important character for the frontman character of this franchise and the other being the main hero of the trilogy that is coming out soon and should be advertised?
It's important to understand that the creator/fanbase interaction is self-feeding circle. The creators advertise something -> fans see this thing more often -> fans care about the thing often -> the creators see the thing is popular and promote in more and more. Of course "being the change you want to see" and engaging/creating stuff about characters you want to see being talked about more is a beautiful message and it's really important and assuring, but all in all, you can only do this much with it

Major Spoilers for TGAA and TGAA2
I've been wondering about the visual resemblance between Barok Van Zieks and both Edgeworths recently - I thought I'd share my findings.
There is some talk about the ancestors of AA's cast. But, at this point in time we know for certain only of Phoenix's and Payne's ancestors. There is a remarkable resemblance, however, between Barok Van Zieks and both Edgeworths. The hair tufts? That's too deliberate a detail. But, that doesn't necessarily mean Barok is the Edgeworths' ancestor. In fact, it could be anyone from his family. I'm not saying it's not him, it could very likely be, as usually the simplest explaination is the likely one. Regardless, I would like to entertain another possibility as well, mostly for fun. Their ancestor could be Iris Wilson. Iris' father was very similar to his brother (hair tufts included), and sometimes certain features skip a generation.
- The Timeline -
Iris could have, sometime after the events of TGAA2, moved to Japan, most probably somewhere close to Ryuunosuke, Susato, and Mikotoba. Maybe with Sholmes in tow, maybe not. Let's look at the timeline (referring to the wiki for the dates here). Iris is born in 1892, she's 9 years old when Ryuunosuke and Susato meet her in 1901. So at some point in the future she has a child, let's say between 20 to 40ish years old - so between 1912 - 1932. Gregory Edgeworth is born in 1966-1967, so Iris of course can't be his mother. I would say she's be either his grandmother or great grandmother, depending on when she and her own child had children of their own (ex. she had a child in 1928 who had Gregory in 1966). Great grandmother seems more likely though, considering the time period. An interesting thing about this is that if Iris is Gregory's great grandmother, that also means.... Sholmes would be his great great grandfather (even if not biologically).
- The Gregory-Sholmes Resemblance -
Very funny how Gregory has a similar coat style to Sholmes', isn't it? Even the pose is similar! Could have been inspired by his family history, even though he couldn't have even met Sholmes. It's unlikely he met Iris as well, but I would think Iris' and Sholmes' legacy would pass down by simple virtue of Iris being an author who left her writing behind, passing the memories of their adventures down. Also, Iris herself made Sholmes' coat. so maybe she made something similar for her child who passed down their aesthethic taste. Point is: Gregory was most likely a huge Sholmes fan.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Why did Gregory decide to become an attorney? -
I don't believe this is ever explained, so this would provide an interesting answer. Gregory could have been inspired by both his family history and his family's friends' history. Sholmes was a detective, and Ryuunosuke, who was very close to Iris' family, was a defense attorney. Maybe the way he handled cases was a combination of his two inspirations (also remember here that Iris wrote Sholmes as way cooler than he really acted). And what about his assertions about prosecutors and attorneys not being enemies? That mindset could be inspired by Ryuunosuke's own, of course. Iris probably wrote about him as well, after all. Also Van Zieks (his great great granduncle) was a prosecutor, as well as Kazuma (a friend of Ryuunosuke, who Iris knew about). All this implies Miles is, at least in part, British. In the original, he would thus be Japanese and British. Which suits him a lot... tea obsession duplicated.. Also fun to note that Miles and Gregory's mechanic in AAI is named Logic (maybe a wink to the Logic & Reasoning mechanic? but probably a coincidence)
- Why are the connections between Phoenix's family and Edgeworth's never mentioned? -
Short answer - TGAA was made after the AA games. Long answer... Well, first of all, it's very much implied Edgeworth doesn't have any family left, much less family friends. So they both probably have no way of knowing, even his own surname is different now. And if his father told him, I'm not sure he'd remember, considering the horror of the years after his death. (Although, I would imagine Edgeworth at least knows Phoenix's connection to Ryuunosuke, since he likely studied him in law school and made the connection to the name) Second, family ties and connections can be lost. One of Ryuunosuke's descendants could have just decided not to associate with his own family (and thus his family's friends) anymore, for whatever reason. All we can say is, Phoenix never says anything about Ryuunosuke. So it's not so strange that he wouldn't know of any connection between his family and Edgeworth's. Although, something funny I noticed from an interview of Takumi's (link: https://gyakutensaibanlibrary.blogspot.com/2018/05/naruhodo-ryuichi-this-is-character.html ) He mentioned Phoenix was planning to go study theatre in England when he saw Edgeworth on the newspaper. That in itself wouldn't mean anything, but people are generally more favorable to go overseas if they have some sort of connection there, whether it's family or friends. Maybe he does have some remaining connections there thanks to Ryuunosuke? It doesn't have to have anything to do with Iris or Sholmes though, could be something to do with Gina for all we know. Or other people he helped there. Who knows. If anyone finds anything else about this, I would love to see additions to the discussion. I find this is a very interesting topic - the connections between TGAA and AA are very intriguing.

I feel like it’s very funny that people will have ship wars about every ship here in the danganronpa fandom but in ace attorney it isn’t even an argument, like, almost every ace attorney fan can agree on these things:
Pheonix and edgeworth are gay for each other
Pheonix is a disaster bi
The only times that a main prosecutor was not horny for the defense was DD,SoJ,and kinda TGAA but *MAJOR SPOILERS FOR TGAA* karuma comes back in the last two cases of resolve so I can’t say that’s the case-

Greetings, my dear fellow !
Tumblr media
I present to you this newborn blog, created for one sole purpose... Ranting about this video-game known as Ace Attorney, with the hope that it'll free me from my obsession!
I am well aware it is most likely to have the opposite effect, but keeping all my thoughts for myself is only making it worse, anyway. So if I am stuck here for good, then I'll ensure you fall with me in the depths of the rabbit hole.
As for how you will refer to me... For convenience, I'll invite you to refer to me as the Great Detective Herlock Sholmes himself, as you might have noticed with your especially acute observation skills, the aesthetic of this blog revolves around him.
Disclaimer : I am not, indeed, the Great Detective himself, and doesn't intent to pretend it is the case. I simply find comfort in anonymity. I might also kin the guy a little.
I've been an Ace Attorney fan for a while now, but only recently finished the two TGAA titles. Or, well, it has been a few months since I reached the end of those games... But I'm stuck here since. This blog isn't strictly about TGAA, though. It might be prevalent at first, but I'll cover whatever Ace Attorney topic crosses my mind. Expect long rants most of time, as synthesising my thoughts is not something I am well-versed in.
I swear on Her Majesty the Queen's name, that I shan't ever post any spoilers without warning beforehand.
As it is quite difficult to maintain an elegant speech, I might occasionally drop it.

i’m so excited to answer all of these!
“What happened to Apollo/Trucy siblings” It never comes up. Ever. Not even once. DD and SOJ both give Apollo new backstory for no reason but SOJ especially gives him a different family other than the Granaryes. So.
“Where is the comfort to Klavier and Apollo’s hurt” it’s like they were men in black forgot beamed and AJ never happened. The only reference to Kristoph is when Apollo vaguely impersonates him in DD (< not commented on), and a VAGUE mention of AJ in general. Where Apollo stated his bestie Clay helped him through those events (??)
“They can’t just drop that whole plot of unanswered questions” they did
Your entire second paragraph: yes, yes, you are very correct! But sadly Lamiroir might as well not exist in DD. OH I FORGOT TO TELL YUO BUT IN THAT SAME CASE KLAVIER PREFORMS THE GUITARS SERENADE AGAIN. you know the song he said he’d never do again. That’s also why the Lamiroir fit was “created”. you know.
DD + SOJ (and the investigations duology) are created by a different guy, not Takumi (who made AA1-4 + TGAA), so that is half the reason they are just… so strange. 💜💜💜
Sighs. My hopes and dreams crushed. We have fan fiction for a reason, i supoose 😔

why is it that every time i play an ace attorney game i'm like yeah i'm going to get attached to a NORMAL character with NORMAL behavior and then in the case of tgaa i end up becoming attached to a guy who looks like hes 20 minutes away from passing out.
LIKE I LOVE INSPECTOR HOSONAGA BUT I SWEAR EVERY TIME I PLAY A CASE WITH HIM IN IT HE SOUNDS LIKE HE'S ABOUT TO DIE. COME HERE BABYGIRL LET'S GET YOU A DOCTOR'S APPOINTMENT OKAY?
OK BUT SMALL CHARACTERS ARE WHERE IT'S AT!!!! i should know, before ace attorney i came from a fandom where i was quite literally the biggest fan of an extremely small character (i am still his number one fan btw. always)

It's taken me longer than I've planned to write the extended, unabridged version of my notes for my TGAA fan case, "Adventure of The Great Vanishing Act."
That being said, I'd like to share one of my favorite parts of it because it was so fun thinking all this up. Just this scene alone is quite long but I didn't want to leave any of it out! I hope you all enjoy!
To set the scene: Sholmes and Iris are investigating together to find Professor Harebrayne after he goes missing. With some deductions, they manage to get on the right track.
**** They begin in the last place Albert was seen - in his home, a first floor room of a three story building.  At a glance, Sholmes can tell that there were no signs of forced entry.  The door is still locked, windows are intact, as is the rest of the furniture and scientific equipment inside of the room.
Iris points out the most notable difference - that there is no coat or scarf on the coat hanger.  It’s a clear sign that Albert must have gone out, and never made it back home.
Sholmes takes note of the businesses nearby.  There are two places that Albert may have stopped by: a pawnbroker and a pub.  Sholmes reasons that these are places that anyone down on their luck would visit (not that he would know from personal experience!)
After Sholmes and Iris ask a few questions to the pawnbroker and tavern owner, they make their way to one of the back streets between the pub and Harebrayne’s home.  They each go forward with extreme caution into a dark alley.  The street appears quiet with very few people walking the sidewalks, and many buildings look to be in varying states of disrepair.
Iris teases Sholmes to lighten the mood, asking if he’s still afraid of the dark.
“A little fear is healthy in a place like this, my dear Iris.  But if we face our adversary, I shall be braver than ever!”
Underneath the streets that Sholmes and Iris are walking, Albert Harebrayne is alone in a dark cellar. It has very small windows near the ceiling, much too tiny to crawl through, and too high to reach.  The only entrance and exit is a heavily locked door on the top of some very steep stairs.
After waking up and coming to his senses, Albert has spent his time trying to figure out how to escape.  Unfortunately, he came to the conclusion that he can’t get out on his own.
(“But I can’t give up!  I owe it to Barok and Mr. Naruhodo after everything they’ve done for me!  I’ve got to find a way out of this, for their sake… and mine!”)
Albert frantically scribbles on the walls with chalk, a mix between words and equations.  It all adds up to a simple fact: if he can’t leave on his own, he’ll need someone outside to free him.  But he’s had virtually no contact with the outside world, so no one is even aware that he’s confined, much less where he is.
That’s when it dawns on him.  He needs to light a signal to let someone, anyone know where he is, and hope they’ll come to his rescue.  And to Professor Harebrayne, there’s no better signal than an explosion.
Albert notices a rack of wine bottles behind him.  He takes a few odds and ends from his lab coat and mixes them in with the wine bottle.  He knows he will have to throw it in just the right spot.
“Right.  Here goes nothing!”
Albert tosses the bottle and it lands right where it needs to - into one of the tiny ceiling windows.
Just above, on the street level, a small fireball erupts.  A few pedestrians see it, including Iris and Sholmes.  Chaos ensues from the small fire, but Sholmes keeps a cool head.  He and Iris enter the front entrance of a rundown building.  They’re aware they only have a few minutes to act, and search frantically for any hidden rooms or passages.
Iris points out skid marks on the wooden floor, and Sholmes follows where they go.  They enter a room with a tall wardrobe, and a noticeable draft.  With great effort, both Sholmes and Iris push the wardrobe aside to reveal a door.  It’s locked by three different locks, prompting Sholmes to use his lock picks.
Once the locks fall away, Sholmes and Iris head down a steep staircase.
Halfway down the steps, they meet Albert, who was hastily going up once he saw the heavy door finally open.
“Mr. Sholmes!  And Miss Iris too!  What are you two doing here?”
Sholmes gets to the point. “To make a long story extremely short, we’ve come here to save you.”
Iris chimes in. “That’s right!  With our powers of deduction, we were able to find you, Professor Bunnybrain!  I hope you’re doing okay.”
“I’m… fine.  Actually, I’m better than fine!  Thanks to your strokes of genius, I’m finally free!  I can’t wait to be home again…”
Sholmes puts on a more serious expression.  “Ah.  It’s good to know you’re not injured, Professor, but I’m afraid you won’t be going home just yet.”
“What do you mean by that?”
Sholmes takes Albert by the hand and begins to lead him up the stairs with Iris trailing closely behind.
“We must hurry to The Old Bailey.  I will hail the first cab I see.”
“The Old Bailey?  You mean the courthouse?  But that’s the last place I want to be!”
Iris shrugs.  “I get why you’d feel that way after your trial last week, but I would still listen to Hurley if I were you.”
“Quite so.  We are under rather trying circumstances at the moment.  If you don’t show that handsome face of yours in the courtroom, a certain friend of yours may completely give in to despair.”
"A certain friend of mine...are you talking about Barok?  Is he in some sort of trouble then?"
Sholmes stops after they walk briskly down the streets of London, a little ways from the pawnbroker’s.
"Oh dear.  You really have no idea what's happening, do you?"
“Of course I don’t know!” Albert exclaims frantically. “If my calculations are accurate, I’ve spent about thirty six hours in that cellar with no word from the outside world whatsoever!”
Sholmes flags down a passing horse drawn cab, and it stops.
“I will have to explain everything on the way there, Professor.  Your friend Van Zieks is in the middle of a trial, and we must arrive before it ends.”
Iris does her best to sound encouraging. “Hurley and I will be right there with you, so there’s no reason to be scared.  You can count on us!”
Albert seems a little nervous as he speaks his thoughts. “I can’t even begin to form a hypothesis about what’s really going on.  But it’s clear that Barok needs my help somehow!  I’ll go with you, Mr. Sholmes.  It’s the least I could do.”
Sholmes sees to it that all of them are seated in the hansom.
“Let us make haste then!  We haven’t got a moment to lose!”
Sholmes presses a pile of coins into the cab driver’s hands.  He mentions that there will be a bonus if they reach The Old Bailey before the trial concludes. The small open carriage practically flies down the streets of London towards its destination…
