Ah, welcome fellow neurodivergent people! :)
Just a small reminder that I do not have ADHD and something I say that may be inaccurate. My here to spread love and learn 😊
ADHD-C Reader x Simon Riley
Tumblr media
Before we start let me just say you and Johnny are demons for this man. The two ADHD soldiers running around and causing several layers of chaos everywhere. He loves you both but... Why? Is his question.
Ghost watches you closely. You have a history of doing your tasks with less than diligent hands and often getting distracted somewhere along the processing line.
Ghost understood this when he learned about your ADHD, seeing the shed half washed or entire patches of dirt having been missed. The van not cleaned out right or a task completely disregarded.
Ghost will gently guide you back, helping you finish. Ghost has also been trying to find way for making your tasks funner and more interesting to focus on to try and hold your attention. (ie: hanging streamers on the shed you have to wash away with the hose) to try and keep the creative stimulation going for a bit longer.
Gun cleaning is something you especially struggle with. And it's very important. You don't want your gun going wrong or getting jammed on a mission and exploding your head off. Ghost has made this very clear to you several times.
You'd remember... If you didn't have trouble listening as well. Things he says goes in one ear and out the other. Ghost isn't entirely sure if it even gets that far. And sometimes it can be annoying, getting through a briefing and having you ask him five minutes later what you are doing.
But he's patient. Oooh so patient.
He honestly isn't sure if giving you a fidget toy during briefings makes any difference in whether you're listening to him. Your eyes aren't on him so it doesn't really feel like it.
This is also why you're not allowed on solo missions unless you have a paper objective stuck to your forehead. You get so pent up over the stress and pressure of solo missions you completely forget what you were even doing there in the first place.
And a lot of times you do get stressed and can break down over not being able to get anything done. Which usually results in frustrated tears and exhaustion. Simon is there for you though.
"Hey, sergeant, what's going on?" Ghost stopped you in the hallway, looking at you for answers while you tried to wipe your tears. "Let me go, I can't help-"
"Hey," Ghost grips your shoulder a little tighter. "What's got you in a twist?"
"All my tasks, it's 2:00 and I haven't gotten anything done." You choke out, thinking he'll be mad.
But he's not. Not at you at least.
"Ok, that's alright. I want you to take a few deep breaths for me ok? Can you try to do that?"
You nod, stifling out some deep breaths and slowly calming down. "Good, you're doing amazing." Ghost rubs your back. "How about we go and do your tasks together, yeah?"
Your smile is a little wobbly but you nod. "Please??"
"Of course, let's go see what you have to do."
Ghost will help you, but he can also push his weight. Sometimes when you just seem genuinely bored with a task and nothing can fix it, he's going to push you. He knows it's extremely hard but this is a place for push and progress, so he'll stand by you and help you finish it despite the lack of stimulation to your brain.
"Ghoooost-!"
"Absolutely not, sit down. Finish your work."
You whine, finding it physically impossible not to fidget and get up from your desk to find something to do.
"I can put on some music or get you another juice box? But you are not getting up until this is done. I can give you a stretch break and let you roll on the floor for a bit or something, but no leaving your office until it's done."
You look up at him with a pouty lip and he pokes it, pushing it back into place. "I'm serious about this one y/n, I'm here to help you however you need but I need you to finish this ok.?"
You sigh and read the next question on your yearly evaluation. "Sex? Like, gender??"
Ghost nods.
"Oh! Did you know my cousin is having a kid and they don't want to know the sex? Why do they even have gender reveal parties..? I would use green if I ever had kids because green is a good color. Like trees are green, and grass and-"
"Focus. We're drawing it all back in, look at me."
You look over at Ghost. "Huh?"
"Look at me, we're drawing all of the thoughts back to me, right?"
You nod, keeping your eyes on him.
"Good, now, answer the question, that question only and then you're mostly done. Ok?"
You nod. "Ok, yeah, I can do that."
"Awesome, answer that last question."
Ghost likes to reward you for being persistent and pushing through difficulties. However.. he's learned the hard way not to tell you he's going to surprise you with something until it's over. Because you won't stop talking about it, or thinking about it. And then nothing ever gets done.
He also helps you get to bed. You can get distracted by so many things bedtime is overwhelming a lot. Simon will be there for you when it's late, helping you from whatever activity you are doing.
He makes sure you don't drink any coffee or anything a couple hours before bed, and tries to get you to bed around the same time every day.
"Did you brush your teeth? No, then let's do that before bed."
"Do you want me to stay with you until you fall asleep?"
"Into bed little tree climber." Simon will joke. He knows you're an adult but it's still funny.
You sigh, looking at him while he runs his fingers through your hair and slowly massages your shoulder with the other, trying to relax you. You won't sleep if you're so tense.
You finally close your eyes, slowly relaxing while he runs his hands over your shoulders and down your sides in gentle motions to relax your spine and back, helping release all the tension and stress after the long day of running around.
"Im going to put on some music ok? Just take some deep breaths, try to close your eyes and sleep."
"Ok."
Simon turns on some slow music for you to help your brain calm down from all the zoomies of the day. He stated by your side, the room in total darkness with only the gentle music playing.
And soon enough you were off to bed.
Simon knows a lot of people find you exhausting. And sometimes you do tire him out, but he'll help you. He knows you need it a lot, and he'll always be there to gently nudge you in the right direction.

Chapter Summary: Music brings Natalia closer with Bruno and the rest of the Madrigals.
______________________________
A few weeks later, a few of the Madrigals were gathered around the small door to the casita's basement. Luisa tugged on the door's handle, a few nails flying out from the pressure of her pull.
"Mija, we could've just taken those out with the back of a hammer." Agustín said with a laugh.
"It was faster this way!" Luisa said.
Agustín shrugged his shoulders. "Can't really argue with that."
"When's the last time that any of us have been in the basement? And why is it boarded up?" Mirabel asked, wiping a smudge off of her glasses with her shirt.
"It's been a long time." Agustín said. "We only had it nailed down during the casa's reconstruction so no kids or pets ended up in there by accident."
"Or it's ghooosts, spooky ghoooosts!" Camilo said, coming up behind Mirabel and shaking her shoulders.
Mirabel screeched and smacked her cousin on the shoulder.
"Camilo, you scared me half to death!" She cried.
"Another half and you could've joined the basement ghosts." Camilo said.
Mirabel, much to her annoyance, laughed at Camilo's joke.
"What's going on with the basement?" Camilo asked.
"Your abuela asked us if we could go down there and grab a few things, some old photo books and a couple other small things." Agustín said. "Figured we can check out what's down there, make it sort of a fun excursion."
Agustín, Luisa, Mirabel, and Camilo headed down the stairs to the basement, taking a small lantern with them for light.
The room wasn't terribly large, filled with a few rows of shelves and several boxes.
Maribel began peeking through some boxes with Luisa, while Camilo checked towards the back of the room.
"Where did this come from?" Camilo asked Agustín, pointing to a guitar in the corner of the room.
"It was your abuelo's. Something abuela was able to save of his when she got to the Encanto."
"I wonder if she'd let me use it." Camilo said, looking down at the guitar curiously. "I have that old small guitar from when I was little, but I'd love to see if this thing still plays."
"Couldn't hurt to ask." Agustín said encouragingly.
After a few minutes of searching, Agustín seemed to have found what he needed.
"It's freezing down here, let's head back up."
When they headed back upstairs, Alma and Bruno were sitting at the kitchen table chatting and drinking coffee.
"Did you find the books, mijo?" Alma asked her son-in-law.
"Sure did!" He replied.
Alma took the books from Agustín's hands and set them on the table in front of her. She took one of the books and opened it up, revealing old and delicate photos pasted inside of the book's fragile pages.
"Is that you and abuelo?" Mirabel asked, her eyes wide.
"It sure is." Alma replied, touching the page fondly. "I was so terrified when we lost the casita that we would have lost these too, I'm so happy they made it through."
Camilo looked over his abuela's shoulders, glancing over the pages. "Your abuelo was so handsome." Alma said, nostalgia in her eyes.
"Those genes obviously passed on to the other men in the family." Camilo said. He looked up at his uncle across the table. "Most of the other men, anyway." Alma and Bruno laughed.
"Don't be bitter just because tío stole Natalia from you, Camilo." Maribel teased.
Camilo nervously shapeshifted into a few people, the end result being a distorted version of his own face. Bruno blushed furiously at Mirabel's remarks, while Luisa burst out in laughter.
"May want to fix your face up there, señor guapo." Luisa said.
Camilo shook his head side to side, quickly fixing his features. The family looked through the photo book together for a little while, until eventually Camilo remembered the question he had.
"Abuela, I meant to ask you. I saw abuelo's guitar down there in the basement. Is there any way that I could use it? See if it still plays okay? I still have that guitar from when I was a kid in my room, but I'd love to play a really nice one like that."
"Of course,” Alma said. “I'd much rather it be used by you than just sitting down in that basement."
"Yes!" Camilo raced back down the basement stairs and brought it back up. He wiped the dust off with a cloth, and then sat down on the couch to try and get the instrument tuned.
Camilo strummed along gently on the guitar after he tuned it, a soft melody filling up the room.
"You play so beautifully, Camilo. I'm glad that guitar's in good hands now." Agustín said.
"I remember you getting you your first guitar when you were so small." Bruno added. "You've really got quite a talent for this."
Camilo smiled up at him. "Thank you both. Feels good to get back to it."
"Is that my baby making that beautiful music?" Pepa said as she entered the room.
Camilo shapeshifted so that just his head was that of a baby's. "Sure is!" He said in a much higher pitched voice.
Félix, walking up with his wife, laughed and nudged his son gently on the shoulder. "Don't tease your mother. Where did that guitar come from?"
"It was abuelo's." Camilo answered. We found it in the basement today, abuela said I could use it."
"He would be so proud to see you play, mi amor." Pepa said, a joyful rainbow forming over her head.
The rest of the family trickled in as the minutes went by and they all enjoyed a lazy afternoon for a while, chatting and listening to Camilo strum on the guitar.
"I wish any of us knew how to use our piano, the only one that can sort of play is Isabela and she's not particularly good." Luisa said.
"Hey!" Isabela yelled out, peeking her head up from a book she was reading.
"Doesn't Natalia play the piano?" Mirabel asked, perking up Bruno's ears immediately.
"She does, she plays beautifully." Alma said. "She would come over to Maria's house sometimes while I was visiting and she would play and sing us the most beautiful songs."
"I had no idea she played." Bruno said, surprised. "I've only ever heard her sing, but never play."
"Oh, we absolutely need to change that then." Félix chimed in.
"Why don't you invite her over for dinner, Brunito?” Alma said. “Her and Camilo can play and we can all spend the evening together enjoying the music."
"That sounds great, call her tío!" Mirabel exclaimed.
"Absolutely." Bruno smiled, happy to oblige. Him and Natalia had spent a little time together the last few weeks, but not as much of either of them would've liked. They were trying to find a balance in their budding relationship despite always wanting to be near each other, making sure they made time for their own commitments while also finding time for each other.
Bruno walked over into the next room and picked up the phone, dialing the number to the bakery.
Natalia's voice picked up on the other end, immediately making Bruno's heart feel light and fluttery.
"Moreno's Bakery, how can I help you?"
"Hi Natalia, it's Bruno."
Natalia smiled, thrilled to hear his voice on the other line.
"Well hi there. To what do I owe the pleasure?"
"Me and the family were wondering if you were free tonight for dinner? Camilo found my dad's old guitar and has been playing all afternoon, he's gotten really good. So with music in mind of course everyone started asking about you. Embarrassed as I am to admit this, I didn't realize you played piano until today. We have a lovely piano here with no one who can really play it, so we'd love to mooch off of your talent and have you play and sing for us a bit?"
Natalia laughed. "You can mooch off of me any time. I forgive you on the piano thing, I haven't been playing as much lately so you wouldn't have seen it. My hands have been pretty tired from all the bakery work, but I have been wanting to get back to playing. I'd absolutely love to come for dinner."
"Wonderful." Bruno said, immediately nervous and excited knowing he'd see her soon. "Does 6 o'clock work?"
"Absolutely. Can't wait."
"Me too."
"Bye, Bruno." Her voice on the other end of the line saying his name gave him goosebumps. He had yet to get used to the way she made him feel, even a small amount.
"Bye."
Bruno walked back into the room.
"She'll be here at 6, she's looking forward to it."
"Wonderful!" Alma said. "We'd better get ready then."
____________________
Natalia was heading up towards the casita’s entrance when to her surprise, a figure looking an awful lot like Bruno Madrigal was waiting for her at the door.
"Well hello there, Nat. Beautiful evening, isn't it?" The voice that came out of "Bruno's" mouth was...incorrect, too deep and out of character.
Natalia smirked at the imposter. Bruno had never called her Nat before, so his cover was blown pretty much immediately.
"It sure is...Bruno."
"Don't I get a kiss hello?" He said, pursing his lips out.
Natalia laughed, turned his head to the side and gave him a peck on the cheek.
"Nice try, pequeñito."
Camilo shapeshifted into his normal self, a pout on his face.
"I thought I was doing a pretty good job." He said, crossing his arms.
"Your tío tells me you've gotten really good at your guitar playing, I'm proud of you. Can't wait to hear whatever you end up playing tonight."
Camilo blushed. "Aww shucks." He joked, motioning for her to come in.
Bruno and Camilo passed on their way away from and towards the front door, Camilo speeding by his uncle nervously.
"What was my nephew up to?" He asked Natalia as she walked in.
"Impersonating you, trying to sneak a kiss."
"I don't blame him." Bruno said, leaning in and kissing her.
"I'm glad to see you, you look beautiful." He said.
"Glad to see you too, guapo." Natalia replied with a big smile, Bruno's eyes flickering neon green at the compliment.
Bruno walked Natalia into the casita's living room and everyone greeted Natalia warmly, with hugs given all around.
Bruno and Natalia exchanged sweet, nervous glances throughout dinner. Natalia always felt wonderful amongst the Madrigals, and when she could take her focus away briefly from the butterflies that always came with being around Bruno, she felt a lovely peace amongst the chaos of the magnificently magical family.
After dinner, Camilo went back to strumming away at the guitar on the couch.
Natalia sat down beside him.
"You really have gotten great at this, Camilo. It's nice to have another musician around." She said, gently nudging him with her shoulder.
"Thanks, Nat." Camilo said with a smile.
"Natalia, will you play something for us on the piano?" Alma asked.
"Yeah Nati, play for us!" Antonio yelled.
"Of course!" Natalia asked, standing up from her seat.
Alma walked her over to the piano, where Natalia sat down.
Camilo pulled up a chair beside her and sat down there. He crossed one leg over the other, plucking a few strings in anticipation.
"Anything in particular you'd like to hear?" Natalia asked.
"Do you know "Fly Me To The Moon"?" Félix asked, Pepa squeezing his hand affectionately. "That was one of the songs played at our wedding."
"I sure do." Natalia replied, shaking out her wrists a bit before starting to play.
"Camilo, do you know this one?"
Camilo nodded his head at her with a smile.
Natalia began playing a soft bossa nova rhythm on the keys while Camilo came in on the guitar.
Félix and Pepa stood up and began to slow dance together, their deep love for each other clear in every single one of their movements.
Natalia began to sing.
♫ "Fly me to the moon Let me play among the stars Let me see what spring is like on Jupiter and Mars In other words, hold my hand In other words, darling, kiss me" ♫
♫"Fill my heart with song and let me sing forevermore–"♫ Camilo started to sing after a short lyrical pause, keeping his eyes shut and his head down as he continued to strum the guitar. His voice was stunning, perfectly pitched and clear.
♫ "You are all I long for All I worship and adore" ♫
Natalia looked over at Camilo and smiled, very impressed but not as surprised as everyone else. Being a singer herself, she always had an ear for voices and she knew just from hearing Camilo speak as his voice changed over the years that he had the potential to become a wonderful singer. Dolores was similarly unsurprised, having heard Camilo singing quietly in his room over the years.
Bruno watched in bliss as Natalia ran her fingers like a dance over the keys and sang as beautifully as ever. Her voice was truly enchanting and romantic. She quickly lost herself in the feeling of the keys beneath her fingers and the strums coming from Camilo's guitar. Bruno felt like he should pinch himself, hardly able to process that he was in an ever growing relationship with this beautiful woman.
Natalia picked her singing back up.
♫"In other words, please be true In other words, I love you" ♫
She looked to Camilo and nodded for him to continue.
♫ "Fill my heart with song Let me sing forevermore You are all I long for, all I worship and adore In other words, please be true–"♫ Camilo sang, glancing back up at the Natalia.
♫"In other words, I love you."♫ Natalia's eyes met Bruno's as she sang the final lyric, both of their hearts swelling in their chests. Bruno's felt like he was flying, his entire body felt numb. He watched her serene expression as the music overtook her, accentuating her beauty even further. Her final notes felt like warm honey to his ears, and the lyric she sang as she looked at him made him feel like he was in a dream. At that moment, they knew that the words of the song couldn't have been more true, whether they'd said it out loud to each other yet.
When the song ended, Pepa wiped a happy tear from her eyes. Many of the Madrigals were a little teary eyed, moved by Natalia and Camilo's performance.
"My Camilo, you sing so beautifully!" Alma exclaimed. "I had no idea."
"Neither did I!" Pepa said. "Mijito, mi corazón está tan feliz."
"You were both incredible." Bruno said, smiling weakly from how emotional he felt in that moment.
"Tan maravilloso, mi querido." Natalia said, giving Camilo a reassuring one armed hug around his shoulders.
"Thanks, guys." Camilo said, unusually nervously for him.
"Will you both sing another for us?" Maribel asked excitedly.
"What do you think? Up for another? It's absolutely okay if you aren't." Natalia said softly to Camilo.
Camilo perked up, his stage fright beginning to leave him.
"Definitely."
Natalia and Camilo sang and played a few more songs together and it was a wonderful, happy evening of music, friends, and family.
____________________
When the evening came to an end, Alma approached Natalia.
"It was so wonderful to have you here, Nati. Thank you for making my son so happy."
Natalia wasn't expecting her words, and blushed with nervous happiness at them. She felt an incredible sense of joy, a sense that she was truly welcomed into the Madrigal's world with the blessing of the family matriarch.
"The pleasure is mine, Alma. Thank you for letting me share this time in your home with your incredible family. I'm so lucky to have all of you in my life."
"Good night, mija." Alma said, pulling Natalia in for a hug.
Natalia wished her good night, and Camilo approached her next.
"Good night Nat. Thanks for–for all of this. Tonight was the most...myself I've felt in a long time."
Natalia smiled brightly. "The best version of yourself isn't anyone you can turn into, Camilo. It's the real you, the version of you that's right here in front of me right now. You are remarkable exactly as you are. Remember that, okay?"
Camilo nodded his head, emotional at her words.
"It was so wonderful to sing with you. Let's do it again sometime?"
"Definitely." Camilo beamed at her, hugging her tightly before he headed off for the evening.
As Natalia finished saying her goodbyes to the rest of the family, Félix yelled out to Bruno, who was still helping clean up in the other room.
"Bruno, come say good night to your girlfriend! Good night Nati."
Natalia blushed as she said good night to them both. She realized that even after a few months of flirting, will-they-won't-theys, and now some kissing and heart-to-heart chats on top of that, her and Bruno hadn't really put an official term on what they were. Not that they necessarily needed to to make their feelings clear, it just hadn't come up naturally yet.
Bruno appeared from the other room, a warm smile on his face.
"All set?"
Natalia nodded.
When they were outside of the front door, Natalia turned to Bruno.
"Félix called me your girlfriend in there." She said softly, smiling up at him. She swayed a little back and forth as she stood, trying to get out some nervous energy.
Bruno's stomach was in knots, he hoped Félix hadn't pushed anything with her. He of course knew how strong his feelings were for Natalia, but he never wanted to move things faster than she did or make her uncomfortable. In that sense, he felt as though he maybe hadn't been clear enough in his intentions.
"I uh, yeah he was–"
"I really liked the sound of it." Natalia interrupted.
Bruno had to fight to keep himself upright at the sound of her words. Her expressing her feelings to him never stopped feeling like an amazing dream.
"I did too. I, please don't think that I didn't want to I just–"
Natalia leaned up and kissed his lips gently, easing his worries a bit.
"Bruno, don't worry. I know this is all still sort of new, but I'm not interested in being with anyone else. I just want you."
"I, I want that too. So much. I still can't believe that this is real sometimes. Every minute with you is magic, Natalia."
Natalia blushed, looking down at the ground.
"Coming from a magical Madrigal, that means even more. I feel the same way, Bruno."
When she looked back up at him he kissed her, the kiss lasting for a few seconds.
Natalia's head was spinning as she processed this moment. Them expressing their feelings, their desire to commit to one another.
Bruno paused as his thoughts whirled around rapidly in his head.
"So, if I'm your novio now, does that mean I'm still the court jester, or am I getting promoted?" Bruno joked.
Natalia laughed. "You can be my novio and my court jester at the same time. It's a second job, not a promotion. It's just more work for you in the long term honestly."
Bruno laughed and then wrapped his arms around her, kissing her tenderly on the forehead. She hugged him tightly around the waist and shut her eyes happily in response.
"Wouldn't change it for anything." Bruno said, his heart on his sleeve.
She marveled in the feeling of his arms around her, the smell of his shirt as she nestled into his chest. They held each other like that for a little while, listening to the crickets chirping and the wind whistling through their hair.
When they finally pulled apart, both of them smiled.
"Be safe getting home, okay? I'll call you tomorrow." Bruno said.
"Sounds great. I will. Good night." Natalia gave him a last wave before setting off for home.
"Good night, hermosa."
Entering this new phase of their relationship, they were both overwhelmed with excitement for the future.
I should really ask her on a proper date, Bruno thought. But what to do? She deserves something really amazing, really special. I'll have to consult Félix and Agustín on that one.
Bruno headed back inside, ideas sprouting from all directions in the joyful, dreamy, mess that was his mind. ____________________
