Dear Anons, if you somehow didn’t know this, pushing an author who accepts and does request for FREE is very rude.

Mari writes so so much, just her original stories are already a lot, not to mention the requests she’s done. One story/content a day is already a lot, Mari does more than one a day so often, and not to mention the time she spends interacting with us, giving a hearty reply and matching our energy even though she has all the right to just reply with 1-2 emojis or even not reply at all.

Mari’s a person, an author who writes with her heart, not some AI generator. If you’re impatient you can always try writing for yourself, see if you can handle that, and then you can imagine yourself being pushed, how would that make you feel ? Do you know that even tagging your stories correctly is tiring ? Finding gifs, rearranging wordings, looking up things you need for the story, etc.

Can I just say I love their expressions?! I love how happy and full of life they both look. This is such a wonderful Jay swagger! And his build is perfect. I mean utterly, utterly perfect. This is exactly what I was thinking of when it came to Jay. Alright, he's not as tall as Samiel, but yup. He could throw him over a shoulder if he wanted to. He just exudes a wonderful sense of cheerful competence in this piece - he's there and he's in charge and it's so wonderful. And his clothes! You've captured this fantastic military feel to him, that's still slightly outside the uniform rules (which yes, 100% yes!) and it works so well for Jay.

And then Samiel. SAMIEL! I adore how he's that little bit more reserved. He's calmly competent and his expression shows it - he's got Jay, and that's all that needs to be said for him. He's quietly dangerous, in the way a dormant volcano is, and you've caught that beautifully. Oh! His hair is utterly gorgeous (and precisely the length I was thinking of when I wrote him!!!!); his skin tone is perfect and I'm going absolutely feral over the way you've got him so tightly bound up in his uniform. Yessss. Absolutely yes. (I love what you've done with his uniform - it's that perfect combination of more formal, but practical and easy to move in.)

Oh gosh, I really can't stop grinning. You'll have to take my word for it, but I'm literally sitting here smiling so much my cheeks are hurting a little bit. 🧐 Do you spend much time researching for your stories?

oh god absolutely yes. i love to learn so it never feels like a hassle though!! i typically break my writing research down into two categories: character and setting. character research consists of me combing through dialogue, reading through their history multiple times, and figuring out what their core principles are. i want the character to still be consistent and recognizable even if they're being placed in scenarios they normally wouldn't be in canon. i'll also look at the creator's interviews where they share their thoughts on the character if there are any out there.

then there's setting research, which i consider equally important. when you're writing fanfiction (unless it's an AU, but even those tend to retain qualities from the canon universe), the world itself is a 'character' too imo. it has rules to follow and an establish history. getting things wrong can break the reader's immersion. getting things right though makes your story seem all the more grounded. i remember simply losing my mind when i was like, 13, because i read an attack on titan fanfic where the author had the characters using oil lamps as their light source. i went feral over the detail and thought it was the coolest thing ever.

paying extra attention to the time period and culture creates this very pleasing cohesive effect. i also think it's crucial to do extensive research if you're about to write for a culture you're not familiar with, otherwise a disconnect can form. i have East Coast American Brain™ and i try to stop it from oozing into my writing whenever possible. like no. no one in genshin impact is gonna say "the whole nine yards", stop it brain. >:(

😈 Has there been a point in a story where you did something just to be playfully mean to your readers?

honestly everything yandere i write is probably playfully mean HKGKMEGR although i do try to find a balance. i want the powerlessness that comes from yandere stories to be frustrating, yes, but like. sexily frustrating. is that a term? it is now. for example, the yan might be saying something condescending, but there's this underlying flirtatious nature to it that makes you feel frustrated yet flustered. even if the situation itself is hopeless, i let the MC retain some power through their ability to converse/make choices. the MC can also get into the yandere's head, play along, act purposefully aggravating, etc etc... this give and take is what i find the most interesting. so my goal is to be a little playfully mean, but like, in a way that makes you twirl your hair and giggle.

🤯 What's a genre you struggle with as a writer (ex. romance, action, etc.)?

ACTION!!! it's action. man. i can write a full story where two characters talk about a rock, but make me do an action scene and i'll crumble. i'm so bad at it. it looks so cool in my head, so dynamic, then i go to write it down and it's like. the dude goes to punch. you dodge. you kick. dude dodges. zzzzz. zzzzzz. how long do i make the sequence? what clever tricks should be used to gain an upper hand? i don't know. i have no clever tricks. i know i need to practice it to get better but it's physically painful for me. please let me make them talk about a rock instead. i'll do better at that.

Listen I'm just going to give you an entire review on your latest Gewis Bodyguard/Royal story rambling even though it's not even a proper fic(let) because that's how insane it is and I am about it okay here goes

he's just sunshine in a bottle and Lewis doesn't want to put a lid on that, so they have this great balance in the sense that George can't throw anything at him that Lewis can't handle, and Lewis has a big influence on helping George kind of gauge when he needs to adjust and regroup

George wouldn't have had anyone he's with majority of the time? Like he wouldn't have had to make public appearances with his significant other, kind of deal, so nobody's really by his side in those kinds of events if his parents aren't there with him.

Exactly what you said as well, they're attuned to each other to such a fine and specific point, and again that comes from learning to be attuned and understanding each other. Okay yes I must break this up into multiple points:

1. Gewis attending events together + power couple aesthetic

Right off the bat they're a beautiful pair to see together, individually they're stunning but together it's just a whole different level of in awe a person can be. It's Prince George Russell and his loyal bodyguard Lewis Hamilton, is this really a couple you wanna fuck with? Like, REALLY? The adored and respected prince and his built-like-the-actual-castle-his-ward-lives-in boyfriend bodyguard whose look can turn you into a statue or make you swoon so hard you faint? UH YEAH MAYBE CHECK OUT OF THIS ONE, ANY LINGERING CRIMINALS WHO HAVE BAD INTENTIONS WITH THE PRINCE

Also, I just have brainrot thinking about Lewis assisting George with things in events? Like just being there and supporting him, having a pen ready, directing him to which seat is his at panels or signings and pulling out the chair for him, pouring him his glass of water. Just small things like that that aren't technically part of his job description, but he does anyway, in such a careful, gentle way.

And George looking to Lewis whenever he's walking into a crowd, to make sure he's following, or putting a hand on his arm in thanks when Lewis hands him the mic, JUST GAH THINGS LIKE THAT I COULD THINK ABOUT IT ALL FUCKING DAY

2. Lewis as a protective shield watching from afar or glued to his side and that rubbing people the wrong way maybe

As much as Lewis loves being pressed against George's side in more positions ways than one, I think he also isn't necessarily anxious if he's away or he's watching from afar. In the fic I wrote, he even did rounds of the property before going back to George's side, and he didn't plaster himself by George when he was entertaining other people. It's partly bc he knows Val and the other guards are around, but it's also that he likes checking things for himself. He can have someone go do the rounds for him, he didn't have to do that, he's the lead guard. But he wanted to for his own validation and peace of mind. On the other hand, he also doesn't want George to feel like he's breathing down his neck. I don't think other people are too bothered by it, I mean they know why Lewis is there and if they've gone to any event where George was in attendance, they're already very familiar with the tall handsome brick wall of a man who tails after George and likes to smile at his highness' quips and always makes sure to sneak George a sweet or two whenever the waiters pass by with dessert on their trays. It's totally normal professional bodyguard behavior.

Listen, we all know people would ship them. The other VIPs probably have a running bet about it and/or have a group chat entitled, "Gewis: Only A Matter of Time."

3. George staring at Lewis too, for entirely normal reasons

Aside from looking for Lewis out of comfort and security, George also looks at Lewis when his guard isn't paying attention to him, which we all know is extremely rare. So when George does catch Lewis in conversation with someone else, or ordering George a drink at the bar, or briefing the other guards, it's a special little treat for him. He gets to see Lewis as Lewis and that's just really nice. He likes it a lot, and it makes him feel something he can't quite name (later on he'll realize it's pride or possessiveness in Lewis, just a "that's my person" kind of thing) but also it's that he loves watching Lewis. He's very graceful, kind, strong. It's mesmerizing. And no I'm not projecting shut up he's a good-looking and very lovely nice guy and we all have eyes

They've both been dealt really harsh cards by life, and I love to give them love and care and support, not just from each other, but from a wider circle of found family as well. And whenever I get to describe a scene that shows them realizing that, 🥺

I'm very proud of this line I put in Helena's mouth: “Well, it’s not as if they hadn’t imagined our bedroom activities long before there ever were any.”

I love cliffhangers, both at chapter endings and at fic endings when it's a series! And then wait a week (or, in And Now You, till the events of the next chapter, because I posted that fic in "real time", as it were) until the next chapter goes up. I'm glad my readers are still bearing with me ☺

Several! And one of them I even married! 😁 No, but seriously - I find the feedback of beta readers invaluable, not just because English is my second language but because I get too close to the prose (oh wow, unintentional rhyme, nice of you to drop by!), and need an outside eye to tell me if I'm still going in the right direction.

🛠What tools/programs/apps do you use to write? (5)

I use good ol' MS Word. With a chapter index, and the new(ish) function of "jump back to where you left off last time", it really works for me. I write pretty much entirely linear, and use a different document for ideas and outline, and a third document for outtakes that might still turn out to be useful down the line, and all of that is straightforward enough to work in Word. I've tried Scrivener, but for me it didn't have enough advantages over what I was already used to in order to really (want to) dive into it and make it mine. With my betas, I use Google Docs and comments, but especially for multichapter fic, that is SO SLOW! And sometimes I write short fic right here on Tumblr, in the app.

Well, I met my wife through my fics, so yes 😁 but even beyond that, a few of my family and friends know. However, none of them (AFAIK) read a lot of fic in general, nor my fic in particular; most of them aren't English readers, OR geeks.

Y'know, I just checked, and my ratings ranking is "Teen and up" 20 works, "General" 19, "Explicit" 17!, and "Mature" 4. 😂 so yeah, I do write the spicy stuff! Both as parts of the larger narrative (the most popular of which is And Now You), and as PWP (here the most popular is 24th century t...echnology, a Beverly/Kathryn fic). I gotta say I do love me some good smut. And I hope mine meets the bill!

I only write fan fic, not original, so no. I am fiercely protective of AO3, and I will protect their integrity one hundred percent. I don't seek to monetize my writing, anyway - it's a pastime, it is fun, and I want it to stay that way. I am lucky in that I don't need any side hustles, and hey, no shade to those who do find (legal, non-harmful-for-the-larger-fanfic-community) ways to make money from writing, but I also hate hate hate that capitalism has come to the point where some people think you gotta derive money from something somehow for it to be worthwhile, or where people see no other choice than to try, in order to make their ends meet. I write for fun. I am privileged to be able to write for fun. So no, no commissions. But hey, sometimes I do prompts, and I love taking part in gift exchanges! So if you ever wanna get something written by me, just let me know and if it tickles my muse, you might get it!

Yes, I really like doing that! I have a winter holidays fic, a Halloween fic, a Pride fic, and I have another idea on the backburner for another winter holidays fic; no clue when I'll ever get to writing it, but I'll get there some day! As for favorites, the Halloween fic really kicked my ass, so it won't make that list, and the other two are tied!

🦅 Do you outline fics or fly by the seat of your pants? (10)

So I never really "learned" how to write? In that I never had any kind of instruction in creative writing, I mean. I didn't even know there was such a thing as outlining, or what different writing processes looked like. I would just open a new Word doc and go forth! So yes, I started out a pantser - but lately I'm working with a writing coach, and have looked into writing styles and strategies in other ways too, and I'm realizing that outlining fits me a little better. I'm in a weird in-between phase right now where I have, like, half a dozen WIPs that were started pantser fashion but where I'm trying to outline how the rest of the fic might go; it's fascinating! (and talking with other writers has been immeasurably helpful for those!)

🎉 What leads you to consider a fic a success? (11)

If I am happy with it. Sure, I like kudos, and hits, and comments (especially comments! When someone says "this fic is like a warm comfy blanket" or "I've read this four times at least"? Priceless!) but those are the icing, not the cake. I am immensely proud of Angel, Sinner, Dragonslayer, for example, both for the story itself and for the craft of it, but that one isn't even in the Top 15 by kudos or the Top 20 by hits. And for me to love a fic or to consider it good, those benchmarks don't matter. They make me happy, don't get me wrong - I love hearing if my fics reverberate with people, if they make them happy, if they make them feel all the feels, if people think the smut is hot, etc. etc. - but on my opinion of my fic, they have no impact.

⌛ How long does it take you to write a fic, or a chapter? (12)

When the muse hits me, when that holy trifecta of inspiration, motivation and time comes together, I can easily write 10,000 words in a day. It's not that I struggle to get words on the page; it's more that the days when that trifecta hits are rare. At the beginning of the pandemic, I was extremely prolific even by my own standards; writing was my way of coping. That has dropped a little bit, alas. Writing is still my happy place, my way of escaping the current hellscape and hang out with my favorite characters, but my energy has definitely been sapped by *gestures at everything*. Add to that that I only ever publish a fic when it's done, and not as I go (god, that idea scares me) (yes even when I publish it week by week; it's all written and done, I just enjoy torturing you by drawing it out), and you see why there's sometimes a long time between fic drops from me.

💥 How do you feel about criticism? 💌 How do you feel about comments and feedback? (13)

Ah! Feedback is a passion of mine. I can take something from almost any kind of comment - even if it is "this commenter has no idea and isn't engaging in good faith". And I always seek to improve my craft, and for that a comment like "this is a bit weak on plot, innit?" is really helpful! Especially if on top of "bit weak" I get given ideas how it could be stronger. Like I said, I never had any training in creative writing, so I am in many ways still learning and will continue to learn for the rest of my life, and I can only do that when I know where I still have room to grow. A bit of background here: I'm a social worker by training, and work in quality management now. I literally thrive in trying to improve things along any number of axes, and that is simply not possible without criticism. So hey, if you have always wanted to point out to me all the ways in which my stuff could be better, by all means reach out and let me know!

❌ What's a trope you will never write? (14)

Grimdark. Or even tragedy. I might take my characters to very dark places, but there will always be light at the end; there will always be a happy ending. Also, man-hating lesbians. Also, mlm. Yes, I'm a woman and yes, I write fanfic, but I write femslash, not slash. 🤷‍♀️ There might be a mlm couple somewhere in the background, sure, because I love including all kinds of queer people in my fics, but my muse just isn't tickled by mlm. As a matter of fact, my muse has pointed due Bering and Wells for the last five years or so? So yeah.

👀 Tell me about an up and coming wip please! (15)

Man, I need to revive the posts in which I talk about my WIPs! Okay, here goes: I'm still working on Strata Part 2 with my beta, and also on Mind Over Matter Part 2. The Pirate fic is a bit on the back burner right now, because I have more inspiration for MOM2 at the moment. I finally have an idea for how to bring it to a good end (thanks, @anandabrat!), and that is the kind of iron you have to hit while it's hot! It'll be from Helena's POV, and show her journey towards a relationship. It's funny how an actual A/B/O fic, that started out with Bering and Wells having, like, the hottest sex ever (offpage though), has turned into one of the slowest burns I've ever written! 😅

also ty for the compliments on my worldbuilding i am SO proud of the worlbuilding i've done for stars. while I definitely do make a very strong effort to keep dynamics and relationships in character and to use the canon characteristics of my characters to influence plot, a lot of my fics are just vehicles for original concepts that i plop my blorbos into like i'm playing dollhouse games lol. I'd love to turn stars into an original novel one day with completely new characters, but we'll have to see how that goes

worldbuilding tips!! on the passerine podcast's channel on youtube I recently did a live interview where I was asked about that, so I'll try to give a condensed version of what I said there. when it comes to worldbuilding for me, I try to imagine it like a tree. there's the main trunk that your story is centered around. these are the world concepts that are going to be directly related to your story so you have to flesh them out to make the base of the trunk as thick as possible. examples of the 'trunk' of my stories would be: the way the system of heroes vs villains in clinic, the setup for the vampire hunting academy in notcturnal animals, and the general government structures of both eldingvegr and zephys iv in stars. these are concepts that are integral to the function of the plot, so they have to be very fleshed out and this is what you're going to want to focus on the most.

a lot of worldbuilding tips i see online say to HEAVILY worldbuild everything about your world so it makes everything feel more alive even if you don't end up using it in the story. personally, I disagree with this, at least for my style of writing. if I told myself I had to know the current economic state of the city in clinic just to 'flesh out the world' more I would never get anything done. instead, when it comes to details like that, I try to think of them as branches on the tree. when certain new elements become relevant to the story, you can add a branch onto the base of the trunk and flesh that detail out albeit in a smaller way. examples of branches would be: the entire function of sigil tattoos on humans vs vampires in nocturnal animals, or the details of different side planets in stars like Floslium, Kinoko, Badlands, etc. these are things that you don't have to start fleshing out until you need them to be talked about in the story. don't bog yourself down with worldbuilding trying to write out every detail of every possible character or organization or government that might sow up before you get anything down on a page. get your trunk determined, then start writing and figure out where you need to branch off from there

I don't know if that makes sense but that's how I think of worldbuilding in my head. as far as chapter building goes I don't have as much in depth advice because I don't really have a solid strategy for how i build chapters. it's kind of just based off what plot points I know I need to hit, and how many I can hit in a single chapter.

Just finished reading Chap 10 and OH. MY. GOD. I have so many thoughts this is gonna sound very confused sorry 😅

First of all.... Hana.. hana hana hana..... I can probably count on one hand the number of people i've resented so much in my life. How can you call yourself y/n bestfriend and acting like that?? This baffles me so much.

And Felix. I feel bad for him but also... absolutely not? Being jealous is one thing but being so mean to your bestfriend I'm... i don't know maybe I have different standards in friendship/love 😅🤣 (also I mean fuel for the angst I get it)

And that last part. I've died, came back to the world of living and died again. Never hated a ringbell so much before in my life ahah. I'm still under all those emotions I don't think I have words to better describe how MUCH I loved that whole interaction and their whole dynamic.

And the way you write Hyunjin is like the most beautiful and poetic way I've ever seen. You make him seem like he's art himself and it's just so so beautiful.

🥺 (pleading face emoji) - Is there a certain type of moment or common interaction between your characters that never fails to put you in your feels?

Oh god SO many. I am basically in my feels about characters all the time, hahaha! I have lots of feels about small, casual moments of tenderness, especially between characters who might not find that sort of thing as easy. Characters expressing their love for each other, no matter how small the moment (a quiet I love you, the brush of lips against knuckles, hair tucked behind an ear) also give me many feels. Another (and one that tends to happen commonly for me lol, I really like exploring grief) is when characters experience moments of grief, in the many ways it can show up - I get equally deep in my feels if someone comforts them, or if they have to suffer through it alone, but for different reasons XD

🛠 (tools emoji) What tools/programs/apps do you use to write?

I primarily use Microsoft Word, both in desktop and mobile form - it's the program I am most familiar with, and I like the formatting on it. I'm also a gremlin who writes many, many things straight into discord channels jskskss (keysmash). I am in two fandom specific servers that I like to ask for prompts from, and I tend to write those directly into discord.

For fics that I'm co-writing, I use Google Docs, because it's easiest for sharing a file that we can both access. However, beyond it's sharing capacity, I kind of hate it, so I don't use it outside of that XD

I already shared what made me start writing in general in this ask (TLDR: I fell deep into a new fandom, wanted to read something that didn't exist, decided to write it myself. Combined with the need for a new hobby and a supportive discord, I kept writing!), so instead I will tell you about what made me start writing OFMD fic XD

Basically kind of the same thing as for why I started writing in general, actually? I wanted to see more Jim whump fics, and I fell deep, deep in love with Jim and OFMD in general. Originally I was only going to write the Old West AU I've got kicking around (because old west is what I'm most familiar with, my other fandom is a cowboy setting), and then I just... got a thousand plot bunnies, as tends to happen, and now here we are.

Dealer's choice means Jim Jimenez right now XD

Hmmmm, picking a favourite headcanon for them is hard - but I think one of the ones that I really adore is that Jim eventually starts to see Frenchie as a brother. Like, definitely a speculative headcanon, but in fics where they have time together on the ship I love the idea of Jim calling him hermano, and them just being wonderful shenanigans siblings. I wanna see it!!! But also I love writing it!!

Another one that I have is that Jim finds it a lot easier expressing their love and using pet names in Spanish - something about it being a language that's closer to their heart, and closer to the tenderness of their past.

Weirdly enough, broken wrists??? I have written 3 fics now which feature a wrist getting broken which, in the grand scheme of things, isn't that much but it's still weird that it's happened 3 times hahah.

Also hair washing scenes. Love me a good soft hair washing scene!!!! The soft domesticity of it all!!!! The tenderness!!! I have yet to write a Jim-focused hair washing scene and I don't know why, but you can bet it's going to happen!!!!
