Saturday night

Dearest Man of the Bats,

I've only just come and I'm not unpacked, but I can't wait to tell you how much I like farms. This is a heavenly, heavenly, heavenly spot! The house is square and old. A hundred years or so. It has a veranda on the side and a sweet porch in front. A picture couldn’t do it justice. That is the way Kansas goes, in a series of Marcelle waves; and the Kent Farm is just on the crest of one wave. The barns used to be across the road where they obstructed the view, but a kind flash of lightning came from heaven and burnt them down. The people are Mr. and Mrs. Kent and a hired girl and two hired men. The hired people eat in the kitchen, and the Kents and I in the dining-room. I have always been a kitchen person and I am unused to being served in any way. We had ham and eggs and biscuits and honey and jelly-cake and pie and pickles and cheese and tea for supper—and a great deal of conversation. I have never been so entertaining in my life; everything I say appears to be funny. I suppose it is, because I've never been in the country before, and my questions are backed by an all-inclusive ignorance.

The room that I occupy is big and square and empty, with adorable old-fashioned furniture and windows that have to be propped up on sticks and green shades trimmed with gold that fall down if you touch them. And a big square mahogany table—I'm going to spend the summer with my elbows spread out on it, writing a novel.

Oh, I'm so excited! I can't wait till morning to explore. It's 8.30 now, and I am about to blow out my candle and try to go to sleep. We rise at five. Did you ever know such fun? I can't believe this is really mylife. You haven give me more than I deserve. I must be a very, very, very good person to receive this . I'm going to be. You'll see.

Dear Batman,

How did your secretary come to know about the farm? (That isn't a rhetorical question. I am awfully curious to know.) Listen to this: Mr. Bruce Wayne used to own this farm, the bank tried to take it but he bought it and returned it to the Clarks. Have you ever heard of such a funny coincidence? Mrs. Kent calls him 'Master Brucie’ and talks about what a sweet little boy he used to be. Apparently, he was school friends with their son, Clark, and he even attended  

 Since she discovered that I know him, I have risen very much in her opinion. Knowing a member of the Wayne family is the best introduction one can have at Kent Farm. And the cream of Gotham is Master Bruce—I am pleased to say that Harriet belongs to an inferior branch.

The farm gets more and more entertaining. I rode on a hay wagon yesterday. We have three big pigs and nine little piglets, and you should see them eat. They are pigs! We've oceans of little “baby chickens and ducks and turkeys and guinea fowls. You must be mad to live in a city when you might live on a farm.

It is my daily business to hunt eggs. I fell off a beam in the barn loft yesterday, while I was trying to crawl over to a nest that the black hen has stolen. And when I came in with a scratched knee, Mrs. Kent bound it up with witch-hazel, murmuring all the time, 'Dear! Dear! It seems only yesterday that Master Brucie fell off that very same beam and scratched this very same knee.'

The scenery around here is perfectly beautiful. There's a valley and a river and a lot of wooded hills, and way in the distance a tall blue mountain that simply melts in your mouth.

We churn twice a week; and we keep the cream in the spring house which is made of stone with the brook running underneath. Some of the farmers around here have a separator, but we don't care for these new-fashioned ideas. It may be a little harder to separate the cream in pans, but it's sufficiently better to pay. We have six calves; and I've chosen the names for all of them.

Isn't it funny? I started to write to you yesterday afternoon out on the porch, but as far as I got was the heading, 'Dear Batman', and then I remembered I'd promised to pick some blackberries for supper, so I went off and left the sheet lying on the table, and when I came back today, what do you think I found sitting in the middle of the page? I picked him up very gently by one leg, and tossed him into he air and he flew off. I wouldn't hurt one of them for the world. They always remind me of you. We hitched up the spring wagon this morning and drove to the Center to church. It's a sweet little white frame church with a spire and three Doric columns in front (or maybe Ionic—I always get them mixed).”

This is Sunday afternoon.

Jackson (hired man) in a purple tie and some bright yellow buckskin gloves, has just driven off with Carrie (hired girl) in a big hat trimmed with red roses and a blue muslin dress and her hair curled as tight as it will curl. Jackson spent all the morning washing the buggy; and Carrie stayed home from church ostensibly to cook the dinner, but really to iron the muslin dress. In two minutes more when this letter is finished I am going to settle down to a book which I found in the attic. It's entitled, “On the Trail”, and sprawled across the front page in a funny hand:

He spent the summer here once after he had been ill, when he was about 18 years old; and he left “On the Trail” behind. It looks well read—the marks of his hands are frequent! Also in a corner of the attic there is a water wheel and a windmill and some bows and arrows. Mrs. Kent talks so constantly about him that I begin to believe he really lives—not a grown man with a silk hat and walking stick, but a nice, dirty, tousle-headed boy who clatters up the stairs with an awful racket, and leaves the screen doors open, and is always asking for cookies. (And getting them, too, if I know Mrs. Kent!) He seems to have been an adventurous little soul—and brave and truthful. I'm sorry to think he is a Kane; he was meant for something better.

We're going to begin threshing oats tomorrow; a steam engine is coming and three extra men.

It grieves me to tell you that Buttercup (the spotted cow with one horn, Mother of Lesbia) has done a disgraceful thing. She got into the orchard Friday evening and ate apples under the trees, and ate and ate until they went to her head. For two days she has been perfectly dead drunk! That is the truth I am telling. Did you ever hear anything so scandalous?

I’m loving this cat mom life. My sweet girl makes me smile all the time. I’m working on setting up more things in my new place. I’ve been so grateful to those who have been there for me through the past few months. They’ve been worth the challenges and the difficulties. They‘ve been worth it all. I’m finding my way back to myself and getting it all figured out. I think I’ll soon be back to writing too. I’m also going to finally finish my BA this year. I turn 35 in 10 days. I’ve started changes. There’s been so much change already, some of which required me to make some difficult decisions. I have done a lot of what I’ve had to do in order to do what’s best for me. In a lot of things it’s all I will say but to those who have stood at my side through it all, know that I love you and thank you from the bottom of my heart for being there through it all. When did you realise you wanted to pursue a career in your industry? Did anything in particular bring you there?

I’ve always been interested in business in general, and this started when I was in secondary school, going to the shops before school to buy a bulk amount of chocolate bars, and then selling them to other students at lunch and making a profit. Now things are a lot bigger than that, with over 180 staff across the U.K, I have bigger challenges than where to source my Mars bars!

What is advice you wish you had received when you were younger?

The advice would be, things will be tough, you won’t always get it right the first time, so don’t be too hard on yourself when you fail, just get back up and try again. A lot of time in business, there’s a lot of pressure to be perfect, not have any failures and to always look your best. I’m challenging that status quo as I’ve made my fair share of mistakes, but what matters is that you use them to build on your experience, and do better next time.

Have you ever experienced an unexpected lesson or realisation at any point in your career? What was it?

Knowing that you can’t please everyone is a huge realisation I had in the past year. When you’re responsible for hundreds of people, you need to know that you will never be able to please everyone. A decision that I make, has the chance to affect a lot of people, and some of those people won’t like you, sometimes. Obviously you need to do what you can to minimise that, but at the same time you need to realise that you will never please everyone.

Do you have experiences outside of work that impacted your perspective or trajectory within your career?

I’m a cancer survivor. When I was young I beat cancer, and this has shaped who I am today. I never give up and I know that if I can beat an invisible disease, I can beat anything!

How do you define success? Has this definition changed over time?

Success is so subjective, and I try to explain this to young entrepreneurs I meet. It takes you a long time to figure out what it means to you, but most of the time we spend our life chasing other people’s dreams and ideas of success. You see a rich person on Instagram with a Porsche, and you chase their dream of also owning a porsche. There’s a utopia when you find out what makes you happy and if you can figure that out, and you know what you need to do to feel that way, you will be the happiest person alive. By the way, success or happiness isn’t a destination, it’s a journey you go on, that has no ending.

Do you do anything in your free time that you feel has impacted your work (or allowed you to step away from it)?

I like to get out in the outdoors and away from technology. I spend all my working day surrounded by technology, and its Inc & Co’s bread and butter. So when I spend the weekend relaxing and out of the office, it really allows me to reset my mind and body so that when I’m back in on the Monday, I have a fresh perspective to my work and the 9 companies we have in the group.

What has been your best moment to date with Inc & Co?

Every day is a great moment, whether that’s hiring a new head of commercial, or planning for our group Covid christmas party. As I was saying earlier, you have to enjoy the moments along the way, otherwise you will always be chasing a bigger, better moment. Every moment is special, you just need to take a step back to enjoy it sometimes.

What exciting future projects can you talk about?

There’s one really big thing we’re working on that is in the pipeline, but I genuinely can’t say anything until it’s launched. Watch this space!

Life Update

Life is a mess. It's been 2 years since I graduated from college, and it is hard. After taking so many job opportunities that come my way, there's no one who has ever hired me. And I guess I am also terrible about getting my civil engineer license.

There's never been a day that I have been struggling. Finding myself stuck at every moment and always looking back at the past and wishing I have done better. I always tell myself that this journey of mine will have breakthrough someday but everytime I think and invite positive energy, it always hook me to my saddest moment of my life, the reality. 

I don't have any job experience aside from working part time as a assistant video editor working under my brother. I work from home and self taught to every little things about video editing. The couple of months as I start is very hard and struggling. I always find myself crying for every little details I don't know about video editing. It drains my soul that I don't even work the course I studied. It just, I grab the oppotutnity in front of me because I don't have a choice.  

Not until a year passed by. By the way, I didn't stop taking the board examination eventhough I can't concentrate to study everytime. I am tired of trying at everything, as if my luck has run out and all the opportunities have gone. It is telling me that whatever I do, I suck and can't move forward because I am a loser. And I hate that feeling.

Now that I decided to go far away from my home, to have new beginning and challenges that I know will help me. I want to apply again another job while waiting since I have to try and try right? and I tried again today to apply a job. Every cents I have to pay to get done that application; the sweats and effort to manage to get in; and that knowing today, after the pre-interview, I realize that i don't even qualify to be in that position and it tears me up that up knowing that until today I still suck at everything. I want to be gone in this world.

Actually, I am sad and tired. I felt really insecure to those around me that they have work to attend, they have the support they need, and even financially okay in things. I want to get out of this cycle and get my best in me, but I am tired and I don't know why even though there's so much to be thankful for. I am guilty that I even felt this way toward mylife.

To the future me, I hope you are doing well and happy. I hope that you in there is very busy working toward you dreams and goals in life. I hope you still hold to God even though your paths is very hard and rough. I hope you will find this and give a laugh because it turns out that life is going to be fine anyway.

Bam, I know you are struggling, overthinking, scared, lonely and discouraged. In this season, you need to strenghten your faith and believe that you have already won the battle. Don't be too hard to yourself and don't be too soft to the situation given to you. Toughen your ideals and ask the Lord to lead the way.

You have purpose in this world, remember that. You are important as everyone on this planet. And you are one in a billion favored in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Time will come and everything will set place according to His will.

Lamenting over a Friendship

Dang, texting my friend sucks so much. Even when we banter and I make jokes I feel empty. Like 5/6 months ago I know how I would have been reacting, but even when I start to find it fun now my emotions just turn stale.

His messages telling me to never say I loved him made me regret caring for him at all.

4. movie of the year

omg let me check my letterboxd. damn ok i dont hae too many movies that Came Out This Year but of those i liked Bottoms and FNAFmovie for being pretty fun and Past Lives for beingvery emotional and wonderful. FNAF was probably the most fun i had in a theatre tbh... lol... i went alone with my sibling which was the first time i ever did that and it was just a really fun experience. healed my autism soul. HOWEVER i watched a lot of other movies this year aside from new releases and my favs of those were Almost Famous (2000) movie about concert band music and it wasSoooo quaint, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) i cried so much.

ok i'll get denver colorado for gizz red rocks out of the way because obviously that was the best trip of mylife sooofreaking fun but thats mostly because of the events that took place. i actually very deeply hold my trip to Julian here in California on my birthday veryclose to my heart because i think that place is reallyreally nice and i listened to my favorite album ever Castlemania by Thee Oh Sees while walking in the street and it felt like dopamine receptors in my brain that day were off the charts (aside from redrocks) so yea.... its just super nice and i want to go again so bad. really cute town it makes me happy.
