"Have you lost your marbles, Valdez?" Jason whispered a bit too loudly, prompting Leo to cover his mouth with the palm of his hand quickly as he heard footsteps approach for several moments.

His heart pounded against his ribcage like a hammer, blood rang through his ears as a void opened in his stomach and the temperature of the closet rose exceedingly high. Burning.

As they waited in silence, soft and short cool breaths brushed Leo's palm. Ever so slowly, Leo tore his gaze from the shadows beneath the door and to the boy in front of him. Goosebumps rose on his skin, his hair stood on the back of his neck and for the first time, he was speechless.

There wasn't much light aside from the rays of the sun peeking through the cracks of the doors yet Jason looked heavenly. Blond strands fell over his eyes and gave him a sleepy look, as if he just woke up from a nap that lasted for days with startling clear and blue pools that reminded Leo of the skies.

Jason's hand reached up to remove the other's from his mouth to speak lowly, in a hushed tone, "Do you want to tell me what this is about?"

"Your eyes are really pretty up close." Leo swallowed, his lips moving ahead of his thoughts and his mind as anxiety flared in his chest and his hands. Electricity tingling underneath Jason's fingers where they remained wrapped around his wrist. Not pretty. Hypnotizing.

Brown irises fell to lips parted in slight shock and shivers ran down his spine. "I, um.." He tried. He truly tried to explain but he couldn't. Jason always made him too nervous to speak and locked in a closet for something Leo had done made him all too aware of his feelings.

Jason released his wrist and his hand fell back to his side, his eyes flickered around the closed space as he softly sighed. For the first time, Leo felt overwhelming cold.

"Did you mess with Clarisse again?"

Leo shook his head, quietly clearing his throat and glanced off to the side. He could find the words if he wasn't staring so intently, so...interested in whatever Leo had to say. "Nico."

"Ah." The son of Jupiter understood a little too quickly, like he could read the other's mind easily. "What's so bad you had to drag me with you?" He teased and a heart of fire skipped a beat, flames stuttered.

Leo weakly managed a nervous laugh but if Jason caught it, he didn't say a single thing. Instead the blond tilted his head and waited patiently.

"I think it's best if you didn't know honestly."

"I know you think my eyes are pretty up close."

His gaze snapped to Jason's in the time it takes for lightning to strike. Leo raised a hand to his head and scratched his head, then his cheek shyly. But then he caught it.

The shine in blue eyes, twinkling with something longingly and too lovingly to be considered anything friendly.

"Leo."

"Hm? Yeah? What's, uh, what's happenin'?"

Jason smiled sweetly, reminding the son of Hephaestus of cotton candy sweet enough to cause a toothache, and pale, scarred hands cupped his cheeks almost hesitantly. He pressed their foreheads together and shut his eyes, inhaling as if to calm his nerves. "Kiss me."

You weren’t entirely too sure when you and Seungmin had fell into a friends with benefits type situationship. It happened on a random night at a party, both of you watching your friends having the time of their lives, getting wasted, acting as it there was no tomorrow, on a large sofa. You leaned into him, enjoying the scent of weed that drifted off of him and into the air. He leaned into you, enjoying the way your body felt against his.

You assumed that’s when he turned his head, silently studying you, watching how pretty you were when you zoned out, watching how beautiful your smile was when you were laughing at your friends dancing, watching how gorgeous you were when you looked up at him so innocently. You assumed thats when he leaned in, his hot breath fanning over your lips before he closed the gap, kissing you gently. You assumed that’s when he pulled away, smiling as you chased his lips.

You guess thats when you an Seungmin started seeing each other casually.

Slowly your friends with benefits turned into more than just sleeping with each other. Seungmin started taking you our for food, started hanging out with you without your friends around, started buying things he knew you’d like or that reminded him of you. He started letting you sit in the front of his car, forcing his friends into the back, rubbing his hand up and down your thigh.

You began to question your relationship with your situationship, began questioning if you wanted more, questioning if he wanted something more with you. When you had finally decided that you wanted Seungmin all to yourself, and received your friend’s encouragement; you went to tell him.

Heyy I hope your doing well, I am absolutely infatuated with your writing style and how beautifully you write Ace!! I am so exited for all three series and where they'll go, and like everyone I'm ultra exited for the next chapter of TNBH. Lowkey want it all to crash and burn for the angst but also want Ace to go through his "The Reason by Hoobstank" moment cuz for once I just want to see that man happy and loved lol

I also had a kind of specific question so feel free to ignore it, do you think Ace will ever see reader in a messy situation; with family, exes, etc., that might change his perspective on her? At the moment Ace sees reader as a "doll" with no imperfections either with herself or her life. I think it would be interesting if Ace saw reader in a messy/complicated situation that would challenge his idea that she is a naive/innocent "doll". We somewhat saw this in Cakes and Alleyways but I think that more so reinforced his view of her being naive/innocent.

Please let me know if I'm miss understanding reader and/or Ace here though :3

Without spoiling anything - yes, he will. Ace is also quite aware of her imperfections, but the thing is that when we, as humans, are in love especially in the beginning, we purposely chose to ignore the imperfections in the other person and we tend to see them more clearly when we are in some later stages in our relationships.

Reader and Ace’s problems come mostly of their imperfections mixed together.

An example from Reader perspective is that she has always known that Ace is a “player” and can definitely be an asshole if he wants to be one, but she purposely ignored that fact in the beginning simply because he rarely showed this side of himself to her, yet she was shocked to see it when he acted the way he did in chapter eight.

Your example for Ace is very spot on. He sees that she is super naïve in many instances, but he also justifies it as you said. The only reason he didn’t lashed out at her was because Shanks had already done it and back there in the hospital he chose to play the knight in the shining armour for her again. To add to it she tends to do things first then stop for a second and think if it was a good idea to do so or not, which he finds quite irritating, but again he chose to purposely ignore, as for now, he doesn’t see it as such big of an issue and finds it in a way adorable because he can always go and saves the day for her, and this benefits him, right?

Again without spoiling, but these imperfections will be seen more from both sides from now on, and it will cause other problems for sure, how big I can’t say, but both of them are quite imperfect characters.

This is a part of Reader I haven’t shown to you guys, yet and it’s mostly my fault because when I start writing the fanfic I had no idea where I want to go with it and all the things happening in it were happening as I was writing them on the spot. My biggest regret is how much of a “good girl” I wrote Reader to be in the beginning, but because of it, soon, it will be her time to show her not so much or even not good at all sides in one of the upcoming chapters. But let’s not also forget that she is not afraid to speak her mind to Ace and this is will be a part of her which he will be seeing more and more of.

On the other side what she does as mistake can easily be overlooked mostly because of Ace’s actions at the same time. He makes bigger mistakes than her, especially when it comes to their relationship dynamic and if we are to compare them of course Reader comes out as more innocent than him.

There will be some moments where Reader might take advantage of Ace and his guilt of what he did to her in chapter eight, but he will probably justify it and think that he deserves it… or not, we will see 👀

And lastly Ace will have his “The Reason” moment, but it will take some time to get there. Also the lyrics match the story and especially Ace’s pov so good.

I’m sorry if the answer is too long, but I hope that I was clear with it and it helps you to understand the character even more 🫶 You haven’t miss understood anything, but even if you did - it’s fine as everything can be viewed from a different perspective.
