Sony Group Corp. plans to cut approximately 250 jobs at its main manufacturing facility for recordable media in northeastern #Japan.

The facility in Tagajo, Miyagi Prefecture, currently employs about 670 people. This move comes as demand for traditional storage formats like #Bluray discs declines due to the increasing popularity of streaming services.

In addition to the layoffs, #Sony will offer early retirement packages to its employees and gradually halt production of optical disc storage media, including Blu-ray discs.

Haikyu!! Stage Play's Final Day Live-Streaming Canceled due to COVID-19 Infection of Two Staff Members

    The official website for "Hyper Projection Engeki Haikyu!! Itadaki no Keshiki (A View From the Top) 2, the 11th show of the stage play adaptation series inspired by Haruichi Furudate's volleyball-themed sports manga Haikyu!!, has announced that its final day performance's live-streaming on May 9 is canceled because two staff members tested positive for the COVID-19 pandemic.

  The final show of the five-year-old very successful stage play series kicked off at TOKYO DOME CITY HALL in Tokyo on March 20, 2021, and has been performed safely in Miyagi, Osaka, Hyogo, and Fukuoka until April 24. As a farewell to the fans, it was scheduled to hold its "Tokyo Triumphal Performance" at the same Tokyo venue 17 times from April 29 to May 9.

  However, due to the third declaration of a state of emergency by the Japanese government, all of the performances have been canceled. Instead, the production committee had planned to live-stream the final day performance without an audience on May 9.

  After the PCR test was conducted on all the staff members involved in the performance prior to the live-streaming, two people were confirmed to have tested positive. They are currently asymptomatic. As a result, the production committee has decided to cancel the live-streaming of the final performance. Refunds will be issued for all tickets that have already been purchased.

Kirin Beer Factory Sendai

Moving on to some more pleasant topics, here is a daytrip recommendation, suitable for vegans!

According to Barnivore, all Kirin beers are vegan. They are brewed according to German standards as well, solely using barley, hops, and water. I'm not an expert, but I think gelatin and other stuff is prohibited for filtering, if I'm not mistaken.

The Sendai Kirin brewery (https://goo.gl/maps/DQBq2Jn5dbTrVqXW8) can be visited for free, including three cups of beers after a guided tour through the facilities (it's in Japanese, but you can grab a handbook with English translation). You need to register first through their website (https://www.kirin.co.jp/entertainment/factory/english/beer/). After that, just hop on a train from Sendai station to Tagajo Station, where you can take the free shuttle bus to the factory. (I recommend you not to go that early, I got drunk at 11 am and had to lie down at 3 pm after coming home.)

My friend got super lucky, as we happened to get free sanma (mackarel) and he had mine as seconds. We were approached by a lovely Japanese lady who spoke English fluently as well. I guess loving the same things connect, especially after 3 beers :D. And Mitsui outlet is just a few minutes away, too, if you're into consumerism.
