One of the big takeaways from today's issue of X-Men: RED was Isca and not only her present circumstances, but her history as well.
And I know a lot of people (myself included) are curious as to what this means for the future of the character (will she stay and wanter Arakko and this wider universe or maybe go back to Amenth), I'm surprisingly fixated on the brief mentions of her past.
Specifically this little exert from her data page.
Tumblr media
Which was then followed by her Judgment at the hands of the Progenitor.
Tumblr media
That is very clearly Tarn, and given what we know about the Progenitor appearing as whomever makes the Judged most emotionally vulnerable, as well as the information we acquired in that data page, I'm going to just go ahead and say that Isca and Tarn were lovers.
Which, if course, puts her reaction to his death at the hands of Magneto into context.
Tumblr media
She was legitimately upset.
And now, what I want to know is, what this will mean for the future of Tarn as well. He was such an interesting character and given that they killed him off so quickly, I never had a doubt they'd bring him back, but this new information changes how I think they'll bring him back, and what his (and Isca's) future will be in the pages of X-Men: RED... provided it doesn't end after a meager run like so many of the other X-Books have been doing.

X-MEN Red #3 Spoilers Warning
Holy #@&#! This issue was intense. Ewing really outdone himself. Storm seeing through Brand's schemes. Love it.
Also, when Roberto bet against Isca to tip the fight in Magneto's favor???? That shit is wild. Can't believe he outsmarted her.
Don't think Tarn would stay dead for long. He's too good of a villain and he'll prolly come back somehow someway. Plus you gotta give him credit for learning from Storm about fighting while being powerless. His "face tentacles" comment was lowkey hilarious.
X-Men Red and Legion of X has been the highlights post Inferno for me.

A tease (mostly because I have an AU of this same idea where it doesn't go bad) of potential Redeemed Tarn who has a similar alternate reality experience to MTMTE Megatron and breakdown of Tarn's character. He is still in a very nebulous and vulnerable state and is not ready to confront certain people.
Like Megatron.
It does not go well. At all and for a moment Tarn almost falls into the comfortable familiarity of devotion, but then he remembers his hatred and it is made worse by the loss of the others and talking to Megatron taking him back.
He punches him through the chest and Soundwave tries to calm him down and remind him he is not that anymore. He has a choice who he gets to be.
Tarn thanks Soundwave. He feels peaceful and throws away his mask. He is free to make his decision. Megatron tried to strip him of a name that was rightfully his. A name that Tarn created just as much as Megatron made him. He doesn't get to just destroy him and hide him away.
He is sorry for this and promises that should Soundwave stand down he will be gentle.
And then he declares himself Tarn and starts ripping through Decspticons to get to Megatron who they are trying to evacuate.
Their heaviest hitters get involved because Tarn is a Phase Sixer for a reason even without his fusion cannons. During it they get the attention of the Seekers who come running. Megatron steps up and fights Tarn who circles him like a predatory insulting him and saying he's so weak he can see why his Decepticons are hiding in holes like rats.
Tarn reminisces of "his Lord" and about what their people could be and their accomplishments and his part in it. Megatron is horrified and fighting tooth and nail.
The Autobots arrive and are picking at the Decepticons like scavengers and Tarn is ignoring them and his collection of wounds focused on Megatron. Unbeknownst to him Optimus spotted him and is listening, making his Autobots not interfere. He's interested and more than a little enchanted. When Tarn goes to crush Megatron though he interferes stopping him from the final blow and getting a snarling Tarn in the face for it. Optimus doesn't hesitate to dig his fist into Tarn's open wound and pin him in place with an ax uncaring of the Decepticons dragging Megatron away and breaking at Tarn's wounds until he falls unconscious crooning at him the whole time.
Optimus lets the Seekers chase the Decepticons but is focused on securing his "prize".
Ohhhhhh yes
Baseline Tarn is just. Not gonna take this well. This did not go well😁
Because this? This is not familiar. To him, it's such a mindfuck that the progress is just exactly torn down, and SG Megs is caught off guard. They thought he was ready, that SG Megs was so different and they didn't thing he'd get triggered and do this. A catastrophic mistake.
BL Tarn did make his decision, and it was one that made their sparks equally sink and jump to their throats in horror.
Baseline Tarn's Programming? That shit is pretty fucking strong.
SG Optimus is intrigued as fuck by this newcomer, this odd version of a decepticon. He's delightfully twisted around and unfamiliar to shattered glass Optimus. He loves a good game, after all, and BL Tarn seems to fun to him.

Have you been reading X-men red? If so what are your thoughts on it and arakko at large?
I'm not current on it, but Ewing always turns in really solid work and Red is no exception. The cast is great, I love love love Ororo's look in it, Red and Immortal are definitely the books doing the most to carry on Hickman era while actually innovating on what Jon introduced, instead of just using it as background to retell the types of stories we've already seen. I do wish Rasputin IV had ended up in Red's cast instead of the main book, but that's a personal preference thing.
I actually love the concept of Arakko. I was big into the Krakoa stuff in general, but Arakko--a lost civilization of mutants descended from En Sabah Nur's first Horsemen--is one of those concepts I'm shocked hadn't been introduced sooner. Like, I suppose Clan Akkaba hits that note, but not to the degree or level of success that Arrako does.
They're also a natural counterpoint to the Children of the Vault, which is another of my favorite X-Men concepts that's been revitalized in a big way. Independent of all that "lost nation-state of pseudo-demonic mutants who border on alien" is just great as a core. Just the right about of fantasy genre to inject into the more typically sci-fi X-Men.
Also just all the MtG style names: Isca the Unbeaten, Tarn the Uncaring, Ora Serrata, Bei the Blood Moon, Redroot...yeah, Arrako's very much my thing.

Something canon to my blog which is probably actual canon? Sinister now has Tarn the Uncaring’s powers. No way a man like that gets that kind of power and doesn’t do something to safeguard it.
